Here's another thing: Vi spent YEARS alone. As bad as Powder's trauma was, at least she still had one person who loved and supported her, even if it was far from healthy. Vi literally had no one. She spent her last years in jail, being beaten by guards, carrying the haunting thought and trauma of losing your second family and being responsible for it WITHOUT anyone to comfort her or show her some sign of affection. I'm honestly amazed how it was Powder who broke first and not Vi.
"Then a real monster came, and I just ran away." This line to me is one of Vis most important because it tells you how she's come to see everything. Now we can safely say that monster is Silco and we know that Vi did not run away she got snatched by Marcus, but Vi sees everything in fight or flight so in her mind she didn't fight she ran away.
Im sorry i laughed at this comment but its becouse “vis” means fish in my language and now i see vi as a fish and silco and markus are fishers 😭. I do love the comment tho about that line and i agree.
In the height of Arcane's release, there was an in-game event where you could read about Vi's time in prison through the reports of guards. For the first few years in prison, Vi would beat people to a pulp in order to get information about powder, but she never got any information. And when I say she beat people, I mean like in some cases beating them until their face was unrecognizable. Eventually though, after years of trying, she gave up and stopped trying to get information about powder. Also I agree that Vi was more than a sister to Jinx, she was really the only sort of mother figure in her life, which makes it even worse to be abandoned by.
With Vander as her inspiration, it's easy to see why Vi became so "punchy" though Vander did mellow and become more diplomatic when he took on the responsibility of looking out for the welfare of the kids. In spite of that, it seems Vi subconsciously retained that initial encounter of seeing Vander as a fighter and not the diplomat he became.
You’d also wonder how long it took for the Vander we see on the bridge to fill transition to the Vander we see in act one. He was probably still somewhat punchy for a good while
@@DarkHarlequin Thank you! this is exactly right. It's really unfair for people to expect Vi, a young girl, to carry herself with the same energy as a middle aged man.
thank you so much for this video! i've been waiting for someone to talk about Vi's trauma as she is my favorite character and since she is older, people kind of over look it because of Powder/Jinx's trauma
One of my favorite moments from Vi is actually at the bar fight near the end. She punches the floor and cries out in absolute anguish. She fought Sevika and won. And it changes nothing. She only did this action for personal satisfaction and she knows in that moment that she did. She's lost or walked away from all her allies and is doing exactly what Vander was trying to warn her against on the bridge.
What I love the most about Vi is that when I say she’s this incredibly strong yet flawed person, I really do mean it. She has this incredible power about her, and while she’s been through so much, she’s still a remarkably well adjusted person. In an almost hybrid mother/sister relationship with Powder, she goes so much farther than could ever be expected of someone in her shoes. She’s just put in these extraordinary circumstances in which the capacity of even an exceptional person just isn’t enough. It’s not even that she’s incapable of handling her sister’s deep mental issues and later complete disorder, the world just gets in the way, pushing her beyond her own mental limits, her physical limits, or even a totally antagonistic force in Silco that’s equally desperately trying to pull Powder in the opposite direction. It is incredibly unfair and it breaks my heart.
very well said! I feel the same. I love her character so much and I am thrilled that the writers confirmed that Vi (and Caitlyn) will be the center of the next season ! I think Vi will learn that pushing away people doesn't actually protect them at all and that it is worth creating new bonds she can trust and rely(!) on - I am really looking forward to that character development writing - of course it will be heart wrenching ;) - it is Arcane after all!
Vi has been my comfort character since arcane was released, i have got anxiety and depression since a few years and see Vi through so much and protectong everithing that she cares about have helped me a lot. Thanks for the video :D
Honestly, vi is one of the only fictional characters I’ve obsessed over after years. As an older sister and (gay lol) I feel the pressure put on her at a young age to be this mother figure for her loved ones. She’s not perfect but tries her best! Everyone talks about the trauma jinx has undergone since her reactions are more external, but no one talks about vi’s who was shown to witness the death of her family and after being mentally/physically damaged to that extent you’d think people would realize her reaction towards her sister was understandable. Even then, she never lost sight of her sister in and tried to protect her from Silco before she was taken away. After all she’s been through vi never lost her own sense of morality. The only thing that keeps her going is the love she has for her sister. After the dinner scene she said things will be alright for powder (not realizing the connection her and silco had was practically like her and vanders ) but it’s not out of malice. When you’ve been through something that fucked up, it’s easy to be stuck at that same age you’ve witnessed the horrors. The fact her sister was raised by the man who murdered her family is the nail in the head.
So true. And the fact that her sister never once seemed to hold Silco accountable for the destruction of her life, but instead seemed to love him for it so much, that she killed for him choose to walk away from Vi has to be the most painful thing that has ever happened to her.
My boyfriend is very similar to Vi, he's been into really traumatic experiences. This video helped me to understand him a lot more. Thank you! I'll be showing this video to him, hopefully he can understand himself better.
Vi isn't as rash or impulsive as people make it out to be. She knows when to retreat and when to talk it out. She's just very good at fighting, so there are a lot of things she can solve with fighting. She did run from Silco when she was injured. Early on, she didn't try to fight the enforcers - she went into hiding and eventually attempted to give herself up. Going back to Piltover with Cait, she talked to the council and Jayce. She's very gentle with Jinx and refused to fight even knowing how bad she's become. Vi only fight with Silco's people because she has to - it's the only thing that works, but when she can she does prefer non violent solutions.
Great analysis. Something that doesn't get talked about is Vi's complete lack of anger or feeling of hurt at her sister. Many people talk about Jinx feeling betrayed by Vi (both by Vi 'abandoning' her and 'choosing' Caitlyn over her), but Jinx is the one doing the actual betraying. She witnesses Silco trying to kill Vi and the rest of her family (and succeed with Vander and Benzo) and take over her home. Instead of feeling angry at the destruction of her life, she seems to love Silco for it. She spends years not trying to avenge her family, but aiding her family's killers in building a drug empire that exploits everyone in Zaun. She never once defends her family when Silco taints their memories and manipulates her into believing only he will lover her, that he gaver her a home. Never once does she state that he KILLED her family and TOOK OVER her home. Every time Vi and Jinx come across each other Vi tries to reach out, but Jinx always acts with suspicion and aggression towards her, going so far as to shoot at her own sister on the bridge. Then during the dinner scene, Jinx again chooses Siclo's toxic worldview instead of Vi (because she feels Vi not shooting Caitlyn is her choosing Caitlyn). She never once asks Vi what happened to her during all those years. I want Vi to have some form of breakdown next season. I want her trauma and loss to overwhelm her. Not because I enjoy watching her suffer, but because realistically, if my sister sees a drug baron try to kill our entire family and she would choose to spend years fighting for him and loving him, I would feel devastated. The pain and anger at this real betrayal would not be fixed so easily. I mean if trying to kill everyone she ever cared about would not turn Jinx (permanently) against Silco than what would? Perhaps the way for them to have chance to come together again is for Vi to let out her pain (Jinx will likely respond by letting out her pain). She would be like "While I was rotting in prison, you were helping that bastard take over our home. While I was beaten by the guards, you were killing anyone who stood against Silco while he sat safely behind his desk. While I cried myself to sleep thinking about what he did to you, you were making gifts for him and calling him daddy!!!" Something like this, the pain of Jinx choosing Silco over and over again (I know it is a bit more complicated, but this is all that Vi sees, she doesn't see inside Jinx's mind).
I find it interesting how there became such a stark contrast between Vi and Jinx's inner voices. Vander constantly affirmed Vi and she never really had any profound or consistent negative feedback from her loved ones, so her inner voice became affirming. Powder was in a precarious situation where she had Vi constantly affirming her, but she also had Milo tearing her down. When Vi took Milo's words and called Powder a jinx, she inadvertently sabotaged the affirming voice that kept Milo's at bay, blurring the line between the affirmer and the criticizer and leaving Jinx prone to extremely self-critical thinking, even when she had Silco, her own "Vander" that constantly affirmed her.
Vi is my favorite character in the show. I’m happy to see you cover her. In that last moment when Jinx tells her she wishes Vi could accept her as she is. You could see on VI’s face that she desperately wants to tell her that.
YEESSSS! I look forward to these Arcane reviews almost as much as when the show was still releasing. Vi is easily one of my favorite animated characters in recent years. She’s so resolute, strong, and caring yet still has her own flaws that make a great character.
actually she knew the heist was a bad idea as soon as she figures out and says" must be an inventor" coz we all know inventors tend to have unstable materials laying around here and there also, when mylo finds the crystal, vi specifically tells him "leave it" shes much smarter than she's been credited for
Have you ever considered analysing books/ book characters? I think Gideon the ninth/ the locked tomb series would be an interesting topic and I’m curious to know what you would think about it
I think that huge part of Vi's feeling guilty comes form the scene in which Vander tells her that "whatever happens is on you" those words combined with his last will to take care of Powder, which she failed because of being imprisoned made her feel so motivated to find her sister and in a way avange Vander by puting Silco down. For Vi her guilt was so heavy that when Sevika told her that Powder is now called Jinx and is like a daughter for Silco hurt her much more than being stabbed. I think that Caitlyn saw how much she struggles with that and in bedroom scene she told her one thing that she really needed to hear in that monemt that "what happened to your sister is not your fault". Her burden was finally taken down form her in a way which allowed her to let her guard down and open herself to Caitlyn and tell about her feeling by sharing her childhood times story presenting her view on what happened in the end of act 1 abandoning her sister (not form her own will) in the very moment she needed her most. For me form act 2 and even more from act 3 Vi can now be "classified" as character from Piltover not Zaun. Why do I say so, well exept of her game lore and champions interactions with her, she saw how much Zaun changed in bad way now everyone betrays everyone like Huck the guy who got help form Vander in first episode and now he sold Vi 'sand Caitlyn's hideout to Silco for a bit of shimmer. In that piont she is similar to Silco she believes in loyalty. She just sees that Zaun is not her place anymore. Even on the bridge when she walks away with wounded Caitlyn she sort of takes one last look to Zaun besides looking on Ekko and Jinx about to fight (again friends turning against friends). She even applies this fact in her outfit by taking atlas gauntlets we can see that when she puts them on for the first time her eyes turs hextech blue for a second. Form that moment she is a Piltovan but still a misfit just like Caitlyn who told directly that to Jayce. And as always super detailed cosplay from you Georgia. You have a nice jacket too ;)
I'm so glad there are people who understand Vi. So many people give Vi flack and misunderstand her. Her trauma is just as heart breaking as Jinx's. I love Vi as much as I love Jinx, Ekko, Silco, and Caitlyn. I'm glad people are now understanding of Vi and aren't judging her. 😊
One of my favorite therapist RUclipsr talking about my favorite character ever, with references to D&D and Schnee!!! This is the perfect video. I am currently playing a character, who I loosely based on Vi, in a D&D campaign and this video is really helping me understand the heart and motivations behind Vi so I can filter some of that into the gameplay :) so excited, thank you!!!
I actually see so much of Vi in my partner. Steely eyed, a fighter, natural leadership qualities, but very loving, good, and empathetic. Your videos are always so well done, and I always look forward to them.
I've been hoping for a long time for you to do one just on Vi. She comes off to me as in serious need of therapy but she doesn't show her trauma as outwardly as Jinx so many don't see it. But unlike her sister there's more hope for Vi as she has someone who may be able to help her so she doesn't have to go through it alone anymore.
Kinda of a random thought, but I wonder how much Vi would have acted motherly with Powder if Vander either wasn't in the picture or was a very different sort of person. By which I mean, I wonder how much Vi giving gentle guidance to Powder is another form of Vi imitating Vander (because that's what he does with Vi).
Fun thing i noticed: your outfit (Vi) had an x below the scarf! In Arcane, Vi's outfits contain a lot of v designs while Jinx is the one with the x designs in her outfits. If that design was shown in Arcane, it would be showing Vi's acceptance and realization of Jinx no longer being Powder.
1) thank you so much for covering Vi! She’s such an integral character to so many other characters’ stories (directly and indirectly; the only major character Vi doesn’t have any sort of narrative effect on is probably Mel) yet because she affects so many and plays “support” so well she easily gets overshadowed in the fanon discussion despite being a protagonist herself and dynamic in her own right with her own traumas that affect her deeply 2) spot on cosplay as always. Think this is one of your best yet 3) DnD Sponsor + a reference to your own campaign? NICE xD
i don’t know why but i’ve always expected the community to view Vi as the main character in this show however suprisingly i found out in the community she gets overlooked and just reduced down to something who hurt powder. I feel like a lot of what’s inflicted on her is also from her own pain to and yeah it hurt powder, she isn’t at fault though. I feel like this conversation about her actions doesn’t even get addressed because everyone doesn’t want to even see into that in the first place. I’ve been through things in my life physically and i don’t want to go in detail with police situations. I’m 15 years old, and i noticed because of the things i grew up with in my childhood and recently i felt the exact same result of vi’s outcome from her experience expressed in her actions in mine. Like Invulnerability. I’m not exactly like her, but I see a lot of myself in her. And what i see is that people only see her with a 2 dimensional lense, that they’re only looking at one thing to entirely dictate her, whether it’s her attractiveness, an action she did, whatever it is it feels like that becomes something that blocks people from even beginning the conversation of going deep down into vi’s character because she’s just reduced down to that. Which is why I’m glad that you brought up this conversation, and wanted to thank you for making this video to voice this perspective to help others understand this kind of perspective entirely.
This is completely irrelevant to my comment, I noticed before this show came out Vi and I had almost the exact same face, the same clothing, and similar hair just different color, I don’t know it doesn’t mean much and isnt relevant to this at all but I just noticed it as something like a coincidence and thought of it.
that opening is very powerful and informative. Vi embodies things in a unique way that a lot of ppl can't. She accepts weakness, she cares about accepting it but becoming stronger. I wonder if it is Vander's influence or actually...a gift. Writing, talking, communicating and sharing are actually gifts that some people do not realize they have. The ability to care/notice others is truly special...just like Georgia-Sensei's explanations ^_^. Thank you so, sooooo much that outfit is too fire and I hope it wasn't uncomfy; it's SO GOOOD :0
Thank you for making this video! Your analysis of Arcane are always amazing! I really hate it when people always dismiss her trauma and make her out to be some horrible sister, which she is 100% not. Her trauma and lack of outside interaction (her being in jail for several years) did indeed impact how she decided to approach her now changed sister, Arcane is a tragedy after all. Also can you make a video on Silco? He's my favorite character and I'd really like to see your opinion on him.
Vi is also one of my favourite characters. Your explanation of her is why she's one of my favourites and when she tells Podwer's to picture her family, she's manifesting Podwer's monsters. So, in a way, to me, Vi pushed Powder to embrace Jinx. That's what I think, anyway. And yes. What a dynamic. Vander is Vi's positive voice and Mylo is or was Podwer's negative voice.
This is what I’ve been waiting for. Every reviewer hits on Powder’s trauma leading to her transformation into Jinx, but, at least she retained some sort of support network, even if it was misguided and toxic. Vi had _nothing_ except the constant memory of losing her whole family, and she most certainly blames herself for what happens to Powder after the warehouse. The amount of guilt she’s carrying must be heartbreaking. And when she gets out of prison, she has no family, no friends, no home; she literally has nothing but the clothes on her back. Here’s some things I’ve noticed about her character; she loves the feeling of sunlight; she believes she’s a pretty simple person, with very few redeeming qualities; she’s so used to being alone she can’t imagine any other way of living, or even why anybody would want to be with her; she’d have debilitating nightmares and flashbacks; if you asked Vi what she was going to do next, she’d probably just shrug and say “I don’t plan that far ahead.” If you asked where she saw herself in five years, the answer would be “maybe not dead.” And if not for Caitlyn, I can easily imagine Vi descending into chronic substance abuse and/or risk-seeking behaviours.
Another amazing video. You are the first person who had the same take on Vi's run. The fact she was caged and is now free. her motions are a little more exaggerated because she's finally able to RUN and be...well Vi.
This doesn't apply directly to the video but I just wanted to say thank you. I loved Arcane (particularly Vi!) and followed the rabbit hole of all your videos on the series and beyond. I have had my own mental health struggles and watching your videos has helped SO much. I just love the way you address mental health through media. It really lets me dig into topics without feeling like I am under a spotlight. The world is a better, brighter place with people like you in it.
Been playing Vi lately and that makes me think how tragic Vi is when you consider the tv show. She becomes a Piltover enforcer. The thing young Vi hated the most.
I love Vi so much, she's such a complex and multifaceted character, so incredibly well written that I feel like she is a real person sometimes. Thank you for this beautiful video ❤️
Vi has the opposite ideology from vander because she is always ready to fight for her family where vander would rather stand down and avoid agression. The one time Vi tried to avoid fighting, was when she almost sacrificed herself to the police so that they would leave her family alone, and ironically vander was the one who reversed all the progress that she had made towards non-aggression. From there Vi would always be the character looking for violence even though everyone else had learned this lesson that vander had unintentionally prevented vi from learning.
I really relate to Vi as the eldest sibling in my family. You get to see the world first before your siblings and want to protect them from what you saw and experienced. My youngest sibling has a lot of metal trauma and a severe metal disorder so seeing her react is just how I would. The only difference is I changed from being a fight to a freeze response to stressful situations as I got older. Watching you break down her character has been amazing and brought somethings about myself to light. So I thank you wholeheartedly for these videos.
Another great video thank you! I think vi really shows how even someone making the right choices for what they got and doing the best they can still can't prevent disaster. Sometimes bad things happen to those you lead even when you are a good leader. The guilt from that can still be debilitating. The fact that a child had to be responsible for something like that shows the true trauma that comes from living in a place like zaun even to those who seem the strongest. It leaves mental scars
This analysis was very therapeutic for me. Like Vi, I too, have regrets over the past and ruminate too much over what I could have done differently. In Vi's case, she feels that much of the chaos and misfortune that befell Zaun (not to mention her sister, Jinx) is her fault when the reality is she is the victim of a lot of darker forces at play. To accept otherwise would threaten the very foundation of her character and would cause her to question the leader and caretaker she believes herself to be. As always, I love the costume! 😊
thank you so much for doing this video! You really brought to light all of Vi's trauma and how that influenced her decisions in the show. Can we also acknowledge that Vi was sent to Stillwater prison when she was 14?? and everyone else there were adults and most likely very dangerous criminals. It's not like they put her in juvie with other kids her age nope just sent to the only prison around
Thank you. I was waiting for it! I have two suggestions for you: Steven Universe and Korra. They are so underrated for being too psychologically mess, despite the fact their mental issues (C-PTSD and PTSD respectively) are a real deal.
You were so thorough and precise, I felt like you were reading my mind with some of your words. It’s so thought out analytically, pure genius showwriting. Appreciate all its glory. This show is everything to me, it has consumed my soul in a way I thought incapable, and I’m so glad it’s not overrated like I thought it was.
20:13 In this scene, when Caitlyn asks "what about us?", Vi never looks her in the eyes. She can't bear to see the hurt in Cait's eyes; the hurt she's causing. That, or she knows that if she does look into Cait's eyes, she may never turn away and could hurt Cait even more by staying, which she can't bear.
Of all of my 30 years on this earth VI is the first character in media that represents / reflects me on such a high level! It's very inspiring, got me back to boxing and to start working on myself 🥊 I always love the way you break down your analysis of the characters. The show is somewhat a Jinx origin story so naturally a lot of focus on her (great character) but I feel like a lot of Vi's trauma get a bit sidelined and forgotten, partly Vi's on fault being a protector and don't letting her guard down. I really like the parkour section as well, it's like she is reclaiming the under city, her body, herself. this was a treat to watch, thank you! 😁 Also that dnd reference😂
That comment you made about her mind going blank when she's stressed definitely applies to that scene on the bridge where she walks away from Jinx with Caitlyn. I've seen people get mad at her for not saying anything in that moment to try to make it better but like...Jinx just tried to kill her. Literally. Or I guess you could say she was trying to kill Caitlyn but Vi would have certainly been collateral damage in that. She really doesn't know what to say, and walks away instead of doing something that might have helped.
I love your breakdowns. Arcane has such amazing nuance packed in each scene that to hear a professional like you use it to explain each character is awesome. I am curious if you will do a Caitlyn clip, because we have all these physically strong characters shining throughout the show and I would like to see how you describe Caitlyn. I see her physical strength, but that does not seem to be put on display as much as her analytical strength. She seems to process situations fairly quick, and this helps her temper her reactions. Example when she escapes Jinx's ropes and has the drop on her. You can see in her eyes that she is analyzing at high speed. Possibly another reason Jinx was able to turn the tables. I like her rebellious risk taking when sneaking on board the airship to investigate and her caring sweetness that comes out when she hugs Huck. I am waiting on finishing VoxM before I watch all those. Keep these videos coming.
Thank you for another Arcane video, Georgia. I think Hailee Steinfeld did a phenomenal job at voicing Vi; she’s doing incredible in her voice performances lately. And Shnee did great explaining Arcane’s writings on women. I’m not sure if you take recommendations, but will you do an analysis on Miriam from Turning Red; she’s my personal favorite of Mei Mei’s friends and such a great friend we would like to have.
People really needed this video to understand Vi more and not balme her for what she did in the past or in the future to jinx ..thank u for this video ❤️🌹
Rewatched arcane and these analyses in honor of season 2 soon! Vi is my absolute favourite I love her character so much and I just want to give her the biggest hug 😭 everyone talks about Jinx, and Vi not so much, which makes me sad, but seeing all these comments I know I’ve found my people hahah
Looks like somebody had an interesting DnD session. As a amatuer DM i love when players get into the game, even if little frustrated as the always know how to latter turn it into something awesome. Keep at it! Have fun both at work and in games!
Thanks for the video and the hard work! I think Vi touched on a little bit on her time in prison and possible trauma when she talks to Jayce. I think she mentioned about do you know what it does to people letting them rot in a box without waiting for an answer. A saga video about Vi would be great!
Georgia, I love your analyzations of Arcane!! Vi is one of my favorite characters, so I was excited to see this. I can’t wait to see your RUclips channel grow even bigger.
"Our brains go on record mode during moments of trauma-", oh my goodness, so mcuh makes sense now. I wish I could delete the files, lol. Maybe I'd be a functional human being then.
and i also thought about something sad about her when she was searching for jinx people thought that she was an drug addict because she always mentioned „powder“ and thats sad
I love that scene of Vi jumping across the rooftops as I feel it's a nod to Hailee Steinfeld also voicing Gwen Stacy in Into The Spider-Verse (Pink in also a colour that's linked to her so that's why they could've done this reference with Vi)
Hey! I just wanted to say you're really amazing and I look up to you alot. I love that you can understand people and the situation even if its an made up character. Me personally feel responsible for people around me even strangers and sometimes I just can't sympathise with them despite of the fact that I really feel bad for them and I just can't show how much I care so the thing that you do , understanding people's emotions is wonderful and you're a completely hero to me . Thanks for your hard work and I wish the best for you and I'm sorry if there's any mistakes in my comment English is not my first language 🌺
Like you mentioned Vi acts rashly when she is stressed. This is why she gave up Jinx to the council in hopes she could start a war between Piltover and Zaun and free Jinx from Silco, ignoring the fact that Piltover wants Jinx dead for killing so many enforcers. So, she would have lost her sister in the end anyways. Also schnee gave a shoutout to you in one of his vids too. Love it when my favorite Arcane youtubers mention each other.
Was already a good fan of your work here on RUclips. Knowing you play DnD just makes me a bigger fan. Another great vid, good luck fighting the sassy vampire
Oh my gosh the D&D reference! My husband and I both play D&D and when watching through arcane, we kept equating the story to a D&D campaign (which, honestly you could do with any fantasy series/movie). But we had fun assigning classes to the main characters. Vi is a fighter, Vander is a fighter/barbarian, Caitlyn is a ranger, Powder/Jinx is an artificer.
Hi Georgia! Awesome video. I love your analysis. You're right that Vi is assertive and concise, but not demeaning. She's a great leader. I also like how you described her relationship with Powder. I didn't think about how she was like a motherly figure, but you're right, she definitely is (and, as other commenters have pointed out, it's such a heavy burden for her to be having to do that at such a young age). She definitely is supportive and I agree with you that showing vulnerability is not weakness. It takes a lot of courage to show vulnerability. Strength too. You're absolutely right too - truly listening and being supportive and kind goes a long way and I can see how that has helped Vi and Powder have such a strong bond. It definitely is easy to throw caution to the wind when one is stressed. And your explanation of the limbic system makes sense. I also heard that the fight or flight response tends to be faster than any response from the part of the brain that processes logic (is that correct?) so it all makes sense to me why Vi acted the way she did (and like you, I agree, that what she should not have hit Powder and that it was wrong - and the reasoning you provided makes sense, especially given the trauma she's been through). You're right - hurtful words do get internalized. I agree they can have a big and long impact. I didn't think about how similar Sevika and Vi are. But, you're spot on, they are very much alike. Your point about the importance of focus - especially in difficult times - reminds me of the videos you made about study habits and building up good habits too :) You gave excellent tips in boht videos :). One thing I love about Arcane is how they do a great job with showing the details and importance of body language. The way they showed the stress in Caitlyn's voice is a great example of this. Great analysis about that also. I agree she was trying to protect Caitlyn. I didn't think about that before, but it makes sense. She is selfless and I can see why she would think pushing Cailtyn away would protect Catilyn. Great analysis. Kudos. Have a good week :D. :). :). Take care :) And yes please - I'd like a Vi complete saga video :).
i absolutely love this series! I would also love if you did a therapist reacts to Belle, an animated movie that came out recently, it deals a lot with trauma responces, and I would love to see your take on it! The animation and music are also beautiful beyond words!!
Ohh my god here comes Vi and a super cosplay ! Also thanks a lot for your work because your analysis help me writing my own character when I'm writing.
The thing that I find myself wondering is what other points in the story was Vi hearing Vander as internal coaching, I can’t say I’ve ever met anyone I felt could fill that role for me unfortunately but it seems like a helpful coaching mechanism.
Vi doesn't get enough credit. She's a great sister, and leader.
I agree
"Then a real monster came, and I just ran away." This line to me is one of Vis most important because it tells you how she's come to see everything. Now we can safely say that monster is Silco and we know that Vi did not run away she got snatched by Marcus, but Vi sees everything in fight or flight so in her mind she didn't fight she ran away.
nice catch
Thank you for sharing that. I didn't know it completely fits with vi
@@GeorgiaDow you should also check out Jinx's diary. It's kind of sad seeing her thoughts

With Vander as her inspiration, it's easy to see why Vi became so "punchy" though Vander did mellow and become more diplomatic when he took on the responsibility of looking out for the welfare of the kids. In spite of that, it seems Vi subconsciously retained that initial encounter of seeing Vander as a fighter and not the diplomat he became.
yes that is the way she was imprinted
You’d also wonder how long it took for the Vander we see on the bridge to fill transition to the Vander we see in act one. He was probably still somewhat punchy for a good while
Trauma leaves an impression, a very strong one.
Or she was naturally a fighter like that….
@@DarkHarlequin Thank you! this is exactly right. It's really unfair for people to expect Vi, a young girl, to carry herself with the same energy as a middle aged man.
thank you so much for this video! i've been waiting for someone to talk about Vi's trauma as she is my favorite character and since she is older, people kind of over look it because of Powder/Jinx's trauma
thanks so much
This!
There’s a dude called Shnee that looks into Vi’s trauma a bit, I don’t remember the vid tho
That makes it really interesting that THIS is the fight where Vander’s ghost appears. Perhaps because she strayed too far?
because this is where Vi needed him. =)
That fight is my favorite it’s so beautiful to watch
"She’s just put in these extraordinary circumstances in which the capacity of even an exceptional person just isn’t enough."
Vi has been my comfort character since arcane was released, i have got anxiety and depression since a few years and see Vi through so much and protectong everithing that she cares about have helped me a lot. Thanks for the video :D
Vi is a great character and I hope your anxiety and depression improve
You could see on VI’s face that she desperately wants to tell her that.
yes you can
YEESSSS! I look forward to these Arcane reviews almost as much as when the show was still releasing. Vi is easily one of my favorite animated characters in recent years. She’s so resolute, strong, and caring yet still has her own flaws that make a great character.
Yay =)) hope you enjoyed it
STRAAAAHHHHD XD lmao
its all i'm thinking of, lol i am sorry
*I didn’t realize that even VI’s stance as an adult mirrored Vander’s on the bridge in the opening shot.*
Great catch
Vi deserves so much more love. Both in the show, and from the fans.
Luckily, her girl Caitlyn seems to have lots to give out🤣❤️❤️
actually she knew the heist was a bad idea as soon as she figures out and says" must be an inventor" coz we all know inventors tend to have unstable materials laying around here and there
also, when mylo finds the crystal, vi specifically tells him "leave it" shes much smarter than she's been credited for
I agree and thank you for those examples
Wait, you are not just taking about my favourite character you also play D&D? How can Georgia be that awesome?
Hahahahah =P awwww thanks so much
Thank you for feeding my vi obsession
Have you ever considered analysing books/ book characters? I think Gideon the ninth/ the locked tomb series would be an interesting topic and I’m curious to know what you would think about it
yay
You have a nice jacket too ;)
Very detailed explanation thank you for that = ) and happy you like the cosplay it was a fun one

Oh my god I love Vi so much. I feel like I am her in so many ways.
she is a wonderful character
I love Vi so much but I’m basically the opposite of her :
I actually see so much of Vi in my partner. Steely eyed, a fighter, natural leadership qualities, but very loving, good, and empathetic. Your videos are always so well done, and I always look forward to them.
Thank you and you are lucky to have each other
The fear of losing people makes one keep them at bay… That does ring true. Another great video👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
So true! THANKS
I've been hoping for a long time for you to do one just on Vi. She comes off to me as in serious need of therapy but she doesn't show her trauma as outwardly as Jinx so many don't see it. But unlike her sister there's more hope for Vi as she has someone who may be able to help her so she doesn't have to go through it alone anymore.
hope you enjoyed it
Kinda of a random thought, but I wonder how much Vi would have acted motherly with Powder if Vander either wasn't in the picture or was a very different sort of person.
She’s such an integral character to so many other characters’ stories (directly and indirectly; the only major character Vi doesn’t have any sort of narrative effect on is probably Mel) yet because she affects so many and plays “support” so well she easily gets overshadowed in the fanon discussion despite being a protagonist herself and dynamic in her own right with her own traumas that affect her deeply
2) spot on cosplay as always. Think this is one of your best yet
3) DnD Sponsor + a reference to your own campaign? NICE xD
Hahaha thanks and thank you for appreciating the sponsor hehehehe
Enjoying a Georgia Dow video that has a Schnee video in it. I love this multiverse.
Yay =))
I loved this so much, Vi is an amazing character, i love her.
i don’t know why but i’ve always expected the community to view Vi as the main character in this show however suprisingly i found out in the community she gets overlooked and just reduced down to something who hurt powder.

Thank you so, sooooo much

Yes I think the opening really set the stage. Thanks Danger I really like the jacket =))
A whole Vi saga would be wonderful. Yes, please!
okay it will happen =)
Thank you for making this video! Your analysis of Arcane are always amazing!
I really hate it when people always dismiss her trauma and make her out to be some horrible sister, which she is 100% not. Her trauma and lack of outside interaction (her being in jail for several years) did indeed impact how she decided to approach her now changed sister, Arcane is a tragedy after all.
Also can you make a video on Silco? He's my favorite character and I'd really like to see your opinion on him.
yes silco deserves it
@@GeorgiaDow Yay!
Yes !!!
Please do a vi saga. I really love your analysis of these characters.
AHHHHH she's my favorite! I've loved all the other ones so I'm super hyped for this one
Hope it lives up to it
@@GeorgiaDow it definitely did!!!
Very well said
@@GeorgiaDow thank you
This analysis was very therapeutic for me. 😊
That little "thank God I had teleport" was hilarious
Thanks for the laugh!
Im so excited for Arcane season 2 to start not just because of the series itself, but because i know your videos analysing it are gonna be incredible
thank you so much for doing this video!
And yes, the complete Vi Saga would be much appreciated!
You were so thorough and precise, I felt like you were reading my mind with some of your words. It’s so thought out analytically, pure genius showwriting. Appreciate all its glory. This show is everything to me, it has consumed my soul in a way I thought incapable, and I’m so glad it’s not overrated like I thought it was.
can we have the Vi complete saga please? 😍🤩
20:13 In this scene, when Caitlyn asks "what about us?", Vi never looks her in the eyes. She can't bear to see the hurt in Cait's eyes; the hurt she's causing. That, or she knows that if she does look into Cait's eyes, she may never turn away and could hurt Cait even more by staying, which she can't bear.
very good point
Of all of my 30 years on this earth VI is the first character in media that represents / reflects me on such a high level! It's very inspiring, got me back to boxing and to start working on myself 🥊
I always love the way you break down your analysis of the characters.
Also that dnd reference😂
HA awesome on the boxing let us know how it goes. than so much for being a part of my channel
AHHHHH I've been waiting on a Vi focused video! I always look forward to your character analysis videos!

Thanks for the video and the hard work! I think Vi touched on a little bit on her time in prison and possible trauma when she talks to Jayce. I think she mentioned about do you know what it does to people letting them rot in a box without waiting for an answer. A saga video about Vi would be great!

"Our brains go on record mode during moments of trauma-", oh my goodness, so mcuh makes sense now. I wish I could delete the files, lol. Maybe I'd be a functional human being then.
I hope you let them at least heal a bit
and i also thought about something sad about her when she was searching for jinx people thought that she was an drug addict because she always mentioned „powder“ and thats sad
I love that scene of Vi jumping across the rooftops as I feel it's a nod to Hailee Steinfeld also voicing Gwen Stacy in Into The Spider-Verse (Pink in also a colour that's linked to her so that's why they could've done this reference with Vi)
Very interesting =)
Hey! I just wanted to say you're really amazing and I look up to you alot. I love that you can understand people and the situation even if its an made up character. I am so touched by your reply thank you ! Thank you for sharing it. Your words held lots of meaning for me
Like you mentioned Vi acts rashly when she is stressed.

I love all these videos. Georgia spots hidden things and explains things like ones I haven't even considered. She just keeps being awesome
aww
I just finished watching the rest of your arcane videos!!! Love your takes on things that I didn't notice my first watch 😁
Glad you like them!

Thankyou So Much for this- LOVE Vi!!!
You are so welcome!
Yes, please! I need more Vi videos!
We just may : ))
I was looking forward to you releasing this video, I loved it so much💜
thank you, have been waiting for this one!
I haven’t seen it yet if I get a chance I’ll take a look
Now that most of the biggest ones are taken care of, I'm lowkey hoping for an Ekko video in the future
Ohh my god here comes Vi and a super cosplay !
Also thanks a lot for your work because your analysis help me writing my own character when I'm writing.
welcome and happy you liked it =))
I love your videos and how you explain the mental aspects in these shows/movies. Really helped me open my mind and notice things better. Keep it up!
The thing that I find myself wondering is what other points in the story was Vi hearing Vander as internal coaching, I can’t say I’ve ever met anyone I felt could fill that role for me unfortunately but it seems like a helpful coaching mechanism.
