I had a shortline in my area that recently went bankrupt called the Eastside Freight Railroad. It had only an SW1200 and interchanged with BNSF. I never got to railfan it, unfortunately. That was the last shortline in the Seattle area. :( EDIT: Brain fart, no it isn't. There are 2 more Class IIIs left in the Seattle area, Ballard Terminal and Meeker Southern. There's also a Class II called Tacoma Rail, but none of them are north of Seattle.
Nice compilation, the K3A is a really lovely sounding horn with the right weather and no blockage or dead bells. Like the one at 6:07, their 4A bells reversed are probably my favorite.
The K3As are probably favorite, those of the early ones from the 1970s, the 1980s ones, the mid 90s ones, and the raised Letter ones. The 80s one from 6:06 is beautiful!
North Shore occasionally runs through my area with 1946 for Lycoming Valley Rail Road (LVRR) when they need foreign switching power! I’ve seen North Shore 1946. He’s come by my local Sheetz on switching runs to Williamsport Wire Rope, formerly known as Alcan Cable.
The Nathan K3 series is that one train horn that actually sounds like a train horn. You'll hear this type of horn on TV in cartoons, movies or a video game because it truly does sound like a train.
I Railfan the CN Flint Sub And so many of the SD70I’s or SD75I’s have the same horn as 8:12 and 5:10. But some have other horns too P5 K3HL K3LA P3 Etc. But mainly that horn.
I agree, it says on cars wiki in the "Audios" category that the horn was actually the one from the FP9 6520 only with a slightly modified sound, and then it turned out that the horn from the Trev Diesel is really from the NS 9559 (or it was because in the videos that I found recently, the horn was different and it is no longer the horn from the Trev Diesel) I hope that horn appears again.
@@Vibri25 The cars movie that Trev Diesel appears in is actually the first movie released in 2006, the 2011 is Cars 2 that doesn't even want Trev Diesel to appear, and the locomotive that appears in Cars 2 is a spy train called "Stephenson" that only appears in a few minutes (and in addition to being a European and electric train that is the opposite of Trev Diesel)

Flying Eagle TV that horn was a K3L. Give it a couple listens and you'll notice that the chord is slightly sharper than that of a K3LA. That sharper chord is caused by the #3 bell.
The LA KINGS use the K3LA horn for their Goal Horn
From railfaning a variety of shortlines here in NY, I can say that K3Ls and K3LAs are popular among many shortlines.

I love the sound of an old, smooth K3H. Especially hearing that minor chord echoing far away somewhere in the night.

Great video! The K3LA has always been my favorite freight train horn. Also, wow. You weren’t kidding about that rendering error
The K3 seems pleasant enough, not too harsh!
Thanks for watching!

That scene at the 6 minute mark with Pan Am railways has to be New Milford, CT?
