The idea of Padayottam 70 MM was triggered by a spec script written by Priyadarshan, based on the Count of Monte Christo. Jijo has credited Priyan in Padayottam for it. But My Dear Kuttichatan 3D was based on a story treatment of 15 pages conceptualized and written by none other than the legend, Padmarajan but was not credited in the titles for unknown reasons. Padmarajan also never tried to make it a controversy and never tried to claim the credit. The story treatment was titled 'Pirannalu Kutti' (The birthday boy). Kuttichathan, the kids and the wonders are from this story. Pirannalu kutti was darker than kuttichathan. Jijo has upped the entertainment elements and masterfully directed an unforgetful film experience. The emotional hook and the horror created by the black magician and the tragedy of kuttichathan was conveyed so effectively. I saw the film as a kid in 1997 when it was reintroduced in cinemas with DTS 6 track sorround sound. Thanks to Navodaya and Jijo for all these wonderful contribution to the Indian cinema. I still watch Padayottam sometimes. It is so epical that it is unbelievable sometimes. It looks and sounds like Japanese epic revenge drama adventure to me and we made it here in 82. It is unbelievable. Let me add one more point to conclude this write up with a dramatic effect- I would like to inform all you fan boys that Jijo wanted to make an IMAX film back in the 80s! It didn't happen because his vision for his first IMAX film was so big that even his grand studio Navodaya couldn't support it. He even went to US several times to learn more about the IMAX format. This piece of info was from kuttichathan's writer Raghunath Paleri himself. Okay, Adios Amigos.

it's the biggest box office hit of all time in malayalam cinema if you consider just ticket sales ..like the SHOLAY of malayalam cinema...by becoming blockbuster in all 4 langauges..this movie was also the first 10cr grossing Non BOLLYWOOD movie in INDIA too...even before mighty tamil and telugu cinema achieved the feat ...The biggest landmark of Malayalam Cinema and South Cinema commercially and the biggest landmark of INDIAN cinema technically....

Very good film study of an unforgettable and landmark movie in Indian cinema. This was when I first heard of a 3-D movie back in the mid-80s. Sadly, I missed watching this as a kid although it was my generation's film but remember my friends and family watching this in a local theatre in Mumbai and raving about it. Definitely a spectacular marvel and part of our pop culture.
