Very comprehensive review. I appreciate that you even covered those little scooter bikes at the $300 - $400 range. Then the $500 - $1000 range and the $1000 - $2000 range. I've owned ebikes in those ranges and found your comments about components and general quality to be spot on. Thank you for taking all ebike buyers of all budgets into consideration. 😊

Nice to listen to someone who gives excellent experienced advise... I just retired 2 months ago and purchased a Juiced Bike last year and really enjoyed it... I started getting out there and enjoyed getting exercise I wouldn't have done otherwise.. I wish the companies would focus more on the practical side of electric bikes with baskets or panniers so you can get groceries without getting the car out of the garage..I want practicality.... I get home from S.E. Asia in another month and one of the first things I do is getting the E-Bike out for a ride....thank you very much for an informative video....

stitchergary I lived in Southeast Asia most of my life. Get ready for culture shock if you’re returning to the US. Make sure you buy a bike that you can bring back to Asia, as you may find living there is quite hard to leave behind.

I read your book! Thanks for the information. It helped me a bunch!
Because I had never ridden an ebike before, I decided to play it safe and I went with a 72v 60a 20ah 3000 watt custom mountain bike build. Then I decided that might be too much, so I ordered a 2,000 watt 72v kit. Then I decided that might be too much so I chose a 36v 350 watt kit for a child's mountain bike. Having a good seat, suspension seat post, and handlebar riser helps relax the riding position.

I have been doing some intense research on ebikes…. after a year of saving up as much as I can, I have decided that my first ebike will be a model I found at Lunacycles. It has 3500 watts with a 96 volt battery and a ludicrous controller, giving a constant 60 amps with 90 amp peak. I imagine I will have to wait a minute for some sort of after market wheelie bars and possibly a parachute, just in case ya gotta take off fast and suddenly have to come to a dead stop.... safety first! . I'll p.m. a video when it comes in!

@@THEpineapples101 Just received mine today. Kind of a pain inserting the key seeing how it inserts from the bottom and you have to feel your way. But once you get used to it, it will seem like second nature. My God that thing is fast; for a bicycle, I mean. Only real gripe I have is there is no provision for a water bottle. Not that I need it for that, but I would like to mount a foldy lock. Not really enough room to do that even with the straps that come with the lock. So I carry it, the lock, in a backpack.
      Best $900 I've ever spent.

Just as a data point, 3000+ miles on a $769 Ancheer. Needed a freewheel and I improved it a lot with a better controller and display. But the basic bike is going strong on the original battery. Probably for someone who can handle maintenance themselves.

One thing that would be of interest to me is which e bike features make them more suited to storage outside. I live on my sailboat in southern California and, despite rumors to the contrary, we do get rain (mostly in the winter) and I am concerned that some of the battery attachment systems would leave contacts exposed to the elements when the battery is removed for charging.

I would love to see a video that includes the moped style ebikes, like the GenZe you have. In my area, this is what I mostly see on the road. Actually most of them are bigger than the GenZe that youve shown, including mine which looks just like a Honda RX 125, but with a trunk(its where I store my rain suit and put my lunch bag for work. Under the seat I put a 6th battery(originally was just 60v), and the charger and an extension cord.) I see quite a few of those ebikes that look like 125 sport bikes as well. While, as I said, I dont have one of these 'ebicycles', I do thoroughly enjoy watching your videos and do get a lot out of them. Im definitely going to have to follow your guides and make myself a lithium pack. The SLAs in the bike now are just disgustingly heavy and I always have to find a parking spot with an outlet near by, which is less than ideal, and I live in an apartment, so I can really only charge my bike at work. Anyway, would definitely love to see a video that covers the bigger types of bikes as well. Ive just been getting the feeling that people are forgetting about those and thinking that there are only 'ebicycles' and those silly 'razor' scooters. Great video though, as always :) .

Amazing and information on ebike adventure. I am 60 years old and want to travel from my third floor apartment to work that is only 2 miles away .
So a low price ebike that can get me to and from home was my premium decision.
So, I decided on a folding ebike.
Dohiker is what it is the brand.
Don't think you have a review on it, but a co-worker got 3 at a cool price. Rode it and thought this was great for 4 mile ride to and from home.
Sorry to bore you with this long comment, but find your help on this video helpful.
Working in a nursing home is challenging, but with current covid19, an ebike gives me social distancing and removes me from bus crowding.
I am a follower and look forward to your your next upload.

Paul Shutts: I certainly don’t want to rain on this parade, but did you ever consider high-grade non-electric bike? I am not in good physical condition (age 65), but I decided to get a regular good quality non-electric bike for my 5 mile commute to work. I purposely never work up a sweat and take a good 45 minutes to get to work. I figured commuting would be in lieu of gym time....(which I don’t particularly like either). I keep my rain suit in the front basket and a baklava at home for snowy weather. I walk up the steepest hills… Totaling about five minutes… But I figure I’m giving a different muscle groups a good work out. Just something to consider.

Hey Micah... Fun vid... Overlooked one BIG "category" maybe? `round here, some folks have been buying "electric bikes" with frames often termed as "scooters"... with pedals that "function" about as well as the human appendix. Yah can pedal any bike for warmth and for exercise... but in "EV Terms" you also can pedal from stops, up hills (against gravity), etc, etc to extend ranges per charge and to extend the life of the cells ("battery") before final recycling and replacement by shaving off peak power outs. Also, when power fails... almost inevitable... (Have been using electric assist for near two decades...) Cheers Micah

What I'm more interested in is: Things to look for when buying a used bike for conversion to an e-bike. Things like: Wider spacing at the hub mounts? More room between the chainstays? With or without shocks? If with, what types are best or worst? Fat tube or normal tube? Can aluminum frames take the extra stress?
    All that kind of stuff.

Hi Micah: WOW... Great video! Very well structured, informative & helpful. Thanks for sharing.
You mentioned about the cadence sensor style bikes, (especially the cheaper ones,) can be kinda jerky or abrupt when you start pedaling & the motor cuts in and applies power. Is this the case with all cadence stye bikes? Specifically:... I believe the RadRunner & RadRunner Plus have the cadence sensor. Just wondering if you have rode these bikes & if the power assist is smooth/ intuitive or is abrupt. Do you know if the motor applies the full PAS selected power when you pedal or whether the software somehow has a way of ramping up power.
I'm very interested in the RadRunner Plus. But as a 1st time ebike buyer and with no way to do a test drive, I would like to know about this before buying. Thanks in advance, greg

Hey Mika, I know your busy , just wanted to say I had great success with my first battery build with the Vruzend kits ... question is , i lucked into some LiFe 18650 cells, and I'm having a hard time finding a 14s LiFe BMS ... can I use a 15s for 14 cell groups .... thanks for your time !!!

No you cannot use a 15s Bms for a 14s battery pack, it will not acknowledge the battery if its not complete.

Recumbent bikes and wheelchairs should be required to have a flag/light 6ft above the ground. I have almost hit a few people on both because they just popped out from behind a parked car.
