My full review and analysis of Seraphine: ruclips.net/video/47FBBuJ7GO0/видео.html
My main criticism for Seraphina is that she is a Sona rip-off. They just really wanted to sell Sona again instead of updating her.
Fun fact, looking at Vi/Jinx/Ekko/Zeri, you can see that zaunites have seemingly naturally (since both Vi and Jinx are shown to have it as little kids) bright colored hair, perhaps its got something to do with the chemicals, or maybe just their style. (though of course, it can also be just influenced by anime-ish stuff) Seraphine having brown hair naturally but dying it pink also shows her attempting to emulate that style is also probably a neat design element
That's a nice bit of subtle storytelling there.
And also, the fact that she now has a guitar makes a better storytelling of her uniting Piltover and Zaun. Cause she is more of a mix of both culture now than her leagues appearence
True, dyed hair seems to be a staple of Zaunite culture and Seraphine doing it to hers is actually such a cute gesture of trying to introduce their way of life to Piltover
@@travisprescott9708 yeah, but nobody born with bright blue or pink hair 😭
Zaun: where you die of chemical waste but at least you have cool colored anime hair
That is such an improvement. Makes her far more interesting to look at.
Went from a one time pop girl to a girl that keeps your attention.
“What do you mean by that?”
She’s still Seraphine = everything wrong with League
Ayooo wdym by that you sus
Ayooo wdym by that you sus
Can we... Can we just put the people in charge of Runeterra's art in charge of Champion design?
Imagine a League 2.0 where every character has been remade/redesigned to be in line with the LoR design/lore... T_T
@@Onaterdem we can dream..
this one actually was made by someone that went to league 4 months ago, iirc is in charge of events art
@@Onaterdem We don't even need League 2.0, just make the executives realize that we want things that expand lore, makes sense, and looks cool.
They CAN revamp old characters, they just choose not to because it wouldn't be profittable, which is the whole problem with League, that's why Seraphine looks like a freaking pop-star, her base skin is KDA inspired
@@bbittercoffee I mean I can't truly blame them, because you see, the average League player is a bronzie "monkey brain see pretty girl, monkey brain buy skin" kind of guy.
People like you and I, who truly care about lore and design intricacies, people who want a consistent game with a good codebase and a good client, we are the rarity.
So I don't truly blame them. They are doing what's best for 90% of the players, which is making skins and keeping the game entertaining with tons of patch notes, while ALSO working on (albeit slowly) old champion updates and lore reworks and stuff.
Do remember that the League team is much smaller now - Riot has split into so many teams recently, and not a lot of people are working on League. Just look at how amazingly high quality LoR or Valorant are, and you'll see that the total amount of effort Riot puts in hasn't decreased at all.
I'm patiently waiting for the MMO, I hope I can finally put this garbage (incredibly high quality game but TERRIBLE community) game to rest, and move on to something else that's _actually good. (Again, League IS good, it's GREAT, even, but it's old, and it shows.)_
She actually looks like someone who'd sing a soft song about imperfection with the background music being comforting to slowly and gently turning to something upbeat (reference to her theme)
taylor swift?
I love her theme song and I think it matches her character better than her costume.
Plus, in LoR, we can see that she is currently attending/performing at a concert in Zaun. We normally see her stationed at Piltover in terms of her base design and aesthetic, even her splash art and it comes of hypocritical when she's supposed to represent peace between the two cities. So, seeing her in a less glittery dress, dawning a more steampunky look, thicker gloves, belts and a corset, rocking a hexcoustic guitar alongside a fellow Zaun musician is a side of her we really wanted to see.
Flavor text from the cards confirms that she would sneak out to concerts and gigs in Zaun. Her father would help her get stuff from Zaun for her to tinker with and create instruments. The big bomb unit card in her kit is essentially her musical punk rival from Zaun.
Her splash art still takes place in Zaun, the Entresol district.
LoL Seraphine is after LoR Seraphine, LoL one is the most famous moment
My gosh, the outfit and especially the roots are just such a great design and make it so infinitely more believable. Her having pink hair makes perfect sense now and it reminds me of the Owl House in that way!
VI, Jinx, zeri and sona dye there hair too?
@@someguy3278 I interpret it as their hair getting mutated by all the chemicals around them
@@someguy3278 ostensibly, no. Which is what makes Seraphine doing it so interesting
Her having pink hair would make sense regardless, considering the fact that her family was originally from Zaun and a lot of Zaunites naturally seem to have brightly colored hair, presumably due to the chemicals in their environment.
What it _does_ do is add a bit of subtle depth to her character. She naturally has dark colored hair so she can easily pass for a native of Piltover but she _chooses_ to look more like a Zaunite which plays into the idea that she wants to be a bridge between the two.
The owl house how?
Not sure if it’s intentional or not but Piltover hair is often very grounded realistic colors while Zaun hair is often vibrant bright neon whether natural or not isn’t really clear. So Serapine by dying her own hair neon does lead to her character as a sort of unifying voice between the two cities
Now all that's left is to check out the stories in her cards and see how they progressed her story.
The story is basically : her father helps her prepare for some sort of battle of the bands in Zaun where she meets The Zaun Diva, who is pretty opposite to her in every way and seem like a rival but in the end they both play together and blow away the competition.
Pretty simple but it goes with Seraphine's goal of unifying piltover and zaun through music
This story also takes place B4 the sera we know with the platform just to add
I also lovs the pet she got as thanks to her power it makes sense that she would understand them and also goes for a disney princess vibe wich just fits her perfectly
The second I saw the LoR card reveal I knew you were going to like it. I also was absolutely delighted by her character design, and her actual card/game design looks fun too.
YESSSSS. I love this version of her so much more. She looks and feels like a citizen and pop star of the region. And them showing her drive to become said pop star as she creates her own instruments is a nice addition.
The brown roots are my favorite little touch, theres just so much in that little design change that makes her feel more real.
The tiny detail that her hair is actually dyed is an AMAZING touch and makes you wonder what she would actually look like before her superstar persona
Fox-earless Ahri?
She's pretty basic design-wise without her pink hair
@@bbittercoffee well that’s the point with most celebrities. They try to look very basic when they’re not entertaining the masses so they can live a normal adult/teenage life. Seeing her without the dyed hair and no glamour can make her down to earth and very likable, at the least relatable
@@dracosol4415 I think we aren't talking about the same things, yes it is cool and makes her more relatable and all, but what I'm saying is that her hair being pink plays a major role in making her unique in a game (and honestly, the whole ass industry) with so many dark-haired characters.
Like, I'd argue that it would be extremely difficult to do a silhouette test on her if it wasn't for the hoverboard (which also plays another major role in making her identifiable, and coincidentally also comes with her superstar persona)
"now this.. this is beautiful"
If she ever appears in Arcane (unlikely but possible), let's thank LoR for doing a good amount of leg work to make everything about her character not terrible.
I would love that so much. It would give Arcane a chance to rework on who she really is. And judging by the art, music and story telling? They would fix Seraphine’s lore / design. I’m sure a lot of people would actually like her if they did that
@@ubermaster134 ofc, especially when she respects and adores both Piltover and Zaun + their people
I'm 1 year late to this, but even if it's just a small appearance or even a mention, I would love if they included her. Like, even if it's something as small as a scene taking place in one of her concerts or even a character saying that they went to her show.
@@Yoryd oh god that was a year ago.
The roots make me feel a little something inside it’s such a tiny little detail but means so much
One tiny detail that gives Seraphine a little bit more of a personality IMO is in her lvl 1 art, you can see empty/unfinished coffee mugs spread across her room.
Now THIS. This is the Seraphine I would love to play in League, she’s got so much more personality in these card artwroks than in game that it’s actually astounding
now if only they had actually cared about Seraphine on release instead of just using her as an excuse to expand the KDA roster :(
But hey, this is certainly a step in the right direction. Can't wait to see the lore and have her finally gain character outside the skinline
Now if only we can get this design as actual Seraphine.
this IS actual Seraphine. She's simply wearing a different outfit in League that's mire fitting for where she's performing
@@SingingNuke to be fair I would rather see in game her wielding a hextech guitar than on a stage
@@vincyph4066 yeah me too it also will make her less like a Sona knock off by getting rid of the floaty ascetics
I like the idea that she originally saw the heavy pop-star look and went ham, but as her style matured and grew she went back to her Piltover roots and started doing her own thing.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS THEY DID IT. WE FINALLY GOT IT.
Man. Your videos really are what led to me truly appreciating the subtleties in good design. Love it.
the squirrel is her manager
At this point the spin-off game has a better world building than the main game
Only the artists of LoR could save the disaster that was Seraphine. There's more character development in that one picture than in her whole release story.
LoR is just there to mostly solve or the problems that League causes. They made her likable, and looking like a character of PnZ, just incredible!
This pretty much what I’ve been wanting to see from Seraphine. Have her interactions with other cards come out yet? Very curious to hear those!
same
The cards will be released on the 13th, not sure exactly if they're going to reveal them beforehand on a site or something though. I do believe the flavor text of all her cards are out, though, if you haven't seen that
If LoR team would be responsible for Seraphine's LoL design from the start then her release would be one of the best releases ever. Can't deny that.
unfortunately, I think with Seraphine it had to do with the management's decisions and the KDA event
@@atocanboi409 If her design would be done better then that enormous rant on her wouldn't happen and then her skin sales probably would be affected not by negative but by positive opinions.
Of course i can't prove that but this scenario is logical.
The edgy kids that hate her, would still hate her
@@Majster4K her skin sales haven't got afected. The edgy kids that hate her, would never by her skin ever
@@Majster4K I don't think they expected her to be this hated, she was the first time the entire community got this angry about a character design, and given she's a conventionally attractive girl they probably thought people would just buy the skin as usual. like if you look at the response for Qiyana a year before, most people were fine with her design and were making fun of people like Skyen and their point of view. Seraphine is the reason that point of view became mainstream.
the twitter thing also contributed there, which was perceived as cringe catfishing instead of the cool Easter egg they thought it would be.
Honestly, I love it when someone looks at a character with some design flaws and goes “I’m gonna expand ya and make you something more than what you are right now”.
I just love love love it! Especially for Seraphina she deserves good characterisation.
As a Seraphine main. I cry every time I see this art. She looks BEYOND amazing. An actual piltover pop star. I hope we get to see this young seraphine in Arcane
Just imagine her using that guitar as a weapon & not that floaty stage thingy in League. :(
The stage is actually pretty unique and good imo. If a guitar was used it would be too Common for music based Character designs and doesn’t do good for the character silhouette
@@Limesssuu Meanwhile Sona's in her corner also surrounded by a circular floating instrument that amplifies her power, a power which she uses to attempt to heal the divide in her community between the uptight upperclass and the opressed.
It's not that unique if it visually resembles something in the game already, both in form and function. At least a flaming hextech punk guitar would have separated her from the _only other music based champ in the game,_ even if it's not by itself the most creative choice.
Hell, they could have had it so that she uses the instrument not to amplify her own voice, but that of the Brackern(who, mind you, communicate _through music_ ) who is powering it, and then adding her voice to their song to amplify their message, instead of riding around on a palanquin she decided to power with the souls of the enslaved, whom she had full knowledge of being sapient beings, to spread _her message,_ which will result in the Brakern being used up and cast aside.
Once again LOR is cleaning up league’s mess
Once again, the best part of League of Legends is everything that isn't the main game
I love characters with colorful hair having natural roots, it tells so much while telling so little. Amity blight
now i REALLY understand why people hated her whole twitter marketing stunt. it was basically a big middle finger to lore itself as an idea.
That was KDA Sera. This is Runeterra Sera. They're...very similar.
WTF.... That's freakingtastic I so wanted that in lol and lolwr, it just fits her PERFECTLY
I really like that she looks a bit more mature in LoR, too. She has this much more calming aura about her. I can completely see this version of her singing a sweet lullaby, calming her audience with just her voice and her guitar.
Legends of Runeterra is the best thing that has happened to the Runeterra universe lol
the dye job.
the dye job alone is somehow, for some goddamn reason the best thing to me. this one image fixes seraphine so much lorewise. im finally ok with not calling her sona2 anymore xD
you can (almost) always count on LOR to fix champs or just give them that extra little kick
Next: The Zaun Diva hot take please
Her prosthetic leg doubles as an amp, how cool is that?
SHE HAS A GOD DAMN AMP FOR A LEG
I would have honestly taken the flamethrowing guitar over anything she uses as an actual skill in League to be fully honest because absolutely none of her spells besides maybe her ult and arguably her shield are things she's capable of doing in lore
She tinkers with the stage. In the card seraphine, it states that she is tinkering her Stage without her father knowing. Skills shown in league are absolutely doable by the champion in lore. Why else would they put them as skills if the hex stage can’t do it?
This one image gave her more personality than anything else
I wanna interpret her league design as her during a performance
Considering she's supposed to be huge and a headline in the music industry there, you could easily argue shes the innovator of that modern design. Somebody progresses design and style at some point eventually, and that applies to real life as well. Not everybody is gonna wear what everyone else is wearing just because everyone else is wearing it. Otherwise nothing would change and things would always stay the same.
I hope Arcane goes this route when Serephine makes her debut. It's not confirmed, but any Zaunite or Piltie character from LOL has a good chance of appearing.
Her having dyed hair is cool also because is shows that other characters like Jinx just naturally have that hair color
The dye job also makes me think of zaun, the people there have more colorful hair compared to piltover imo
I think a super nice detail on the actual design from LOR Is definitely the fact that it doesn’t try to de characterize seraphine it doesn’t put her into this sad and boring persona of “oh Zaun hurts and everything here is misery” it still shows that even at the worst moments there’s light and that’s what seraphine is supposed to be she’s on a mission to bring peace to zaun and piltover to unite them both into a duete that both can enjoy without taking away from the other is her dream and as a result stage seraphine looks un real it’s this persona a fasade she puts on to cheer the people and by the end of the day she’s still just like anyone else this being her new off stage character being an amazing representation of the reality of piltover and it’s pretty damn cool
And they also added the Zaun Diva who has A GODDAMN THIGH AMP. COOLEST SHIT I EVER SEEN
Also her roots growing out is a nice touch
Petition for riot to rerelease Seraphine and give her that fire guitar in her base kit
WAIT NO YOU'RE MAKING ME LIKE HER
Still love Seraphine's music covers she released when she first came out. If she had looked like this when she first came out, think the community woukd have accepted her in better than what actually happened
This fixes everything with her design for me, omg!!
The second to last drawing that was shown with her wearing a leather jacket really makes me wish she had a cool steampunk rock star look! That would’ve been way cooler than the design she has
So they went from random idol-girl insert, to subtle story of a girl trying to bridge the wildly different cultures of Piltover and Zaun through her music. Neat!
did you just write an English literature level essay about a league of legends support character? damn that's awesome😂
Things like this make me think that maybe Riot should had kept her on the oven for another year, so she could come out as a well cooked champ and not the absolute raw money-hungry disaster she was on release
they really thought “money now” and pumped out kda and everything with her(and that ultimate skin).
@@cocoearmuffs6207 And what not, their defense of why she was copy+paste of Sona wad laughable:
"Weeeeeeell, there are a lot of champions who uses swords, aaaaaaaaand no one ever complains about it, soooooooo, we're fine with 2 music based champions"
@@sadvec6328 3? Let’s not forget about bard.
I love that her roots are showing in the LoR art too. It’s so much more natural
This is thousands of times cuter than her original!
"Legends of rubeterra to the rescue"
I with I dont have to hear this too much in the future"
It won't redeem how out of place she feels in the game, but that art does such a better job that anything else about Seraphine.
If she appears in Arcane I sure hope this is the interpretation they'll go for
Like Caitlin, Seraphine got a more immersive makeover which is dope asf for me.
Since I forgot all characters belong to a region, and thought that Seraphine just isekai'd into lol, since she looks like she fit in NOWHERE there.
Let's also not forget that godly level up animation
As people pointed out on her LoR trailer, it actually made people like Seraphine and her character design
They should have chosen this design and made her skills be her shooting magic out of her guitar
Let's make a petition to change her model ingame in league to this
I would not be surprised if Seraphine was an early test model for a Sona VGU they could try things on and someone at riot said turn that into a champion i want to sell a skin.
I have no doubt left to their own devices the champion team could have made her lore much better. Honestly her design concepts could have been what they were working on and what we got was an early place holder design they were forced to stick with.
I have no problem with her having natural pink hair since Vi seems to have natural pink hair but nonetheless pretty cool that she dyes it to keep up a her persona
it s not if you have a prob or not. it s there for the purpose of story telling (telling personality/character of someone only by looks)
If only LOR got a hold of her before league launch
I knew Skyen would make a video on Serapgine the moment she was revealed. I can not be more pleased.
Oh I love this so much! Fits perfectly for what I have in store for her!
Great job as always Skyen
I also like that her level 1 art makes her look more introverted, which is something I've always felt about Seraphine's lore, but never her animations, voice lines, splash art or design in LoL. foe me, a big part of her character is dealing with the fact that she's in constant sensory overload because of her magical hearing, but in-game she always comes across as a very shallow person who only really cares about the money, fame and fun that comes with performing. her design and overall vibes here just bring her closer to who she's supposed to be.
Runeterra's art is such a blessing
BROOOO I love that illustration in which she is building a guitar, it's so good.
The Legends of Runeterra team also didn't make a creepy fake social media account prior to releasing her card. So. . . yeah, a lot less controversy this time.
This is why I am waiting for that aatrox LoR images
it makes her look so much more than a "uwu I sing!!!!" person and actually gives her character some depth
MY GOD I LOVE THIS REDESIGN.
WASN'T SO HARD, WAS IT, RIOT?!
God I wish the runterra team worked on champions and skins
Your videos / shorts make me so much more critical of skins and such, but it makes me appreciate good skins so much more.
She’s also left-handed, which is not very important but it’s fun
*gasp* She IS the Devil!
I wish we had that runeterra seraphine.
I think adding her electric guitar in her LoL model would look cool
100%
you know what i love???the amount of work YOU have put into this...FUrther Seraphine :) youre video is the real jewel ;)
I love your takes💖 And I'm super happy that people won't use the argument that she does not belong in PnZ anymore
@@mimic3872 some people just hate her because she's a girly Songstress and it shows in how harshly they criticise her
Makes it seem that the dress is her "stage costume" hence her skin being that, but how she'd normally dress is the style of her area
the self-creation theme is so fricking cool
Vi: a zaunite with pink hair and nobody says anything
Jinx : her sister, has blue hair
Ppl : Why does Seraphine has pink hair?! 😭
I think it's mostly a result of leagues style being spotlight moments. The character will always be at the pinicale of their story(at time of creation) design wise we see this in ashe and tryndamyre they have the queen and king skin which released later on to show that something happened in their story when riot didn't want to make it the base skin cause it's not their prime moment. Which leads into seraphine (who was made to sell the legendary skin imo which helps explain the popstar theme) is so flashy. It's the height of her career, whereas legends of runetera is quite literally earlier in the time line. So she wouldn't be flashy. Another example would be sivir and azir in Lore azir is already hunting sivir down as his heir, but in legends, it told the story of their first meeting when the cards launched
Goddamn that splashart at the end is just SO much better than her normal splashart in league !
“Legends of runeterra has good art design” perfectly sums up everything good ab the game
I achieved piece a little knowing this
making your own electric guitar is metal
her in-game model is really well-made wow
I saw a really good comment about how both LoL's design and LoR's design form a full picture; Level 2 Seraphine is in a Zaunite concert, starring along the Zaun Diva whose tickets can only be found on the floor of Zaun's streets (Check Discreet Invitation). That then leads to Seraphine wearing a simpler Stage outfit, that's less glittery, and thus resonates a bit more with Zaunite people, while still selling her core image.
LoL's design however is much more rooted in Piltover, where people are more "refined", where she'd rather portray something more fantastical on stage, to conform to what her role is viewed as by the people of Piltover.
This is very clearly a retrospective view, but it definitely shifts some aspects of her character design into a new light.
