Cabbage is my favorite vegetable. I love the core just like Charlie does. I’m a Charlie too.
@@charleswalter2902 hi Charlie. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. We'll share the core with you. 🙂
Cabbage for money, black eyed peas for luck, and corned beef for health. And make sure the first man through the front door after New Year’s Eve is a tall dark haired man.
Sounds right to me. We always have cabbage on New Year's Day. When I was young, Mom would put a silver dime in it. My grandma always went by the 'first footer' superstition. She always made sure it was a male who came in the house first on New Year's Day.
@@tinaravenstein2927 I have never heard the saying about making sure the first man through the frontbdoor after New Years Eve is a tall dark haired man! Interesting! What is the belief/significance behind that? Just curious... may need to incorporate that! Would not be too difficult either.... my husband is 6'2" and still has dark hair mixed with gray. We may have a few years left before all of the hair is gone 🤔 lol!!
@@tinaravenstein2927 I grew up hearing collard greens are for money and black eyed peas for luck. I do not recall the health item though. I have just always saved the ham.bone from Christmas to cook in the black eyed peas for extra flavor. Can't go wrong, it's all good!!!
Made for dinner last night.. aside from substituting the water for chicken broth, I made it exactly as Charley showed, although I was a lil worried about the sugar.. lol, it turned out great!
yum yums for my tum tum! 😊 will be making again and try w a bit of fresh garlic next time.. ty for sharing Charley! 😃

Where’s that cornbread boy?
@@debtizzano3066 That's so nice of you to say.
I'm Dutch in do this with Ham hocks. I cook them in the crock pot the day before putting them in the fridge overnight. All of the grease comes to the top i discard it . And you have a broth. shred and debone the meat, put it back in.
The rest is the same as your recipe. I just love it. I got the recipe down south at a dinner. Thank you.
I will try your version.
@monicagieck7975 Yes, you could use ham hocks, and it would be good. Ham hocks are good in pinto beans, too. Hope you like our way of doing it.

Hey, love that Recipe, can't wait to try it, and when I was probably around 5 years old my family and I lived on a Ranch in
Gandiville, I probably spelled it
Incorrectly, but any how it was owned By Donley and EsseeFields, and we rented it for about 2 years, and Mr Fields raised the older type of Black Angus cattle and they were absolutely beautiful, what wonderful memories I have of the 100, plus acre Cattle Ranch, and some of the finest Neighbors you could ever meet!
@Jerry-dq4om Hi. Thanks. That's right next door to us in Roane County. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Our neighbor used to have a herd of black Angus cattle .

Charley, I love cabbage. My momma used to do this but with bacon. I'm headed out to the store to grab some Little Smokies. I can't wait to try it. I always have cabbage on hand. Cabbage is one of those vegetables that stays good for a long long time. You can store it uncut and unwashed in the crisper drawer for weeks.
@brendaredmond4678 I hope you like it. We always have cabbage too. I like making homemade slaw for our hot dogs and barbecues.
The broth makes me and my cornbread happy😊
