As a junior in high school, I and three other players on our team went to the Pocono Mountains(PA) basketball camp, run by Coach Knight when he was the head coach at Army...On the first morning addressing the camp in a small airplaine hanger type of gym, coach told all of us to get up from our chairs and get in the defensive posture & to shuffle our our legs up and down...this went on for what seemed an eternity as he pushed us to keep at it...finally he had us stop...all of us were physically drained, but somehow we got through it...he then said to us "if you think your folks sent you here to go on a summer vacation, you're sadly mistaken"...to this day, I'm both sore & exhausted...I came back home having learned basketball, but more importnatly the meaning of discipline, work ethic & perserverance...traits instilled in me to this day... I wouldn't trade that weeks experience for anything, period...thank you Coach Bobby Knight.

You see, Knight is already thinking about the next game and opponent but the reporter wants to talk about IU’s 51 point blowout victory and he wanted to imply that home court is advantageous because when Indiana played at Northwestern earlier in the season they barely squeaked out a victory. Knight, knowing his players will see the interview and read the paper, did not want them gloating in their 51 point win and at the same time did not want the seed planted into their minds that home court gives them an advantage. You see, ultimately, Knight is looking out for his kids. He doesn’t want them thinking they’re better than they actually are just because they beat a team by 51 points. That game is over and means nothing in light of the next opponent we have to face. Also, home court is not advantageous because we can beat any team home or away just the same if we play to our potential and prepare accordingly. Knight is TEACHING HERE. Always the teacher.
