- Join a roadtrip through Arkansas and the offbeat Ozark mountains and discover the best roads and best places to visit.
Arkansas is not just worth a stop - it’s a destination. Shady forests , peaceful lakes and hidden treasures. Find out about the best places to visit when touring Arkansas and witness, how I nearly ran out of gas in the middle of the Ozarks.
As soon as I arrived in Arkandas the scenery had changed from the endkess plains to beautiful rolling hills and lush green forests. Here are the best places to visit, best roads to ride and things to do when visiting Arkansas and the Ozark mountains:
Sleep at Sky-Vue Lodge. It is a historic and cozy little B&B right on the edge of the Ozark National forest. The property sits near the top of Mt. Gayler in the Boston Mountains, part of the stunning Arkansas Ozarks, and offers rooms with porches, a pizza service, and views, that money can’t buy.
Explore the White Rock Recreation Area and its amazing dirt roads
Ride the Pig Trail Scenic Byway. It winds through the rugged and forested Boston Mountains region of the Ozark Mountains. This 24 miles on State Highway 23 is one of Arkansas best motorcycle rides and USA Today listed the route as the # 2 of the best rides in America.
If you are looking for a good place to stay in the middle of the Ozarks, Mulberry Lodge, that is right on Highway 23, or Byrd’s Adventure Center are the best options. They offer as well camping - but were completely booked at my time of traveling.
Stop in Oark and visit the famous Oark Cafe to eat a burger. Established in 1890, it’s the oldest continuous-operation store in Arkansas. And yes, people literally drive for miles to eat one of its famous burgers.
Explore Falling Waterfalls. Falling Beauty Waterfall also known as Falling Water Waterfall is is literally next to the dirt road in the Richland Creek area of south Newton county in Arkansas. It's a peaceful little spot to have a picknick, a swim or to put up your hammock and enjoy the calming sounds of the water.
Don't run out of petrol in the middle of the Ozarks ;)
Camp at Barkshed Recreation Area. Barkshed is a primitive camp near a clear mountain stream. It was the old "Barkshed Forest Camp" and is a serene little oasis in the middle of the forest these days.

Arkansas is a state that you need to be in for years to truly explore it. There's an insane amount of hidden gems

I grew up in Northern Arkansas and it will always have a special place in my heart. The Ozarks are very beautiful.
Wasn't beaver lake a little close to Sringdale Ar. I went there alot to swim and fish I lived in Springdale at the time. Imiss it
Arkansas has to be one of the most beautiful states in the nation.

@goldmember3761 Arkansan here. Y'all are both correct. The Western third is beautiful, topographically. The Southeastern quadrant has the highest illiteracy rate in the nation, as a region, I grew up hearing. Highly economically depressed as a whole state. Southern hospitality on the surface, until you make it known you disagree politically.
@@goldmember3761 Come to Seattle! We got all that and more. Plenty of open dope use too. People living and shitting on the streets. Education doesn't mean shit when you vote like an idiot.
Arkansas is called "The Natural State." It's love at first sight.
Have you heard the State Song, " Arkansas ( you run deep in me) ?? Makes a couple references to "falling in love with it", or "losing your heart there". It isn't on youtube. The artist recent ( back in the 1990's I think) recording of it keeps a tight copywright on his version of it.
Beg to differ. I saw enough unnatural
watching RUclips video of the Benton
County boosters seeking another sucker.
Amen! My roots are from there. I love it there.
It is absolutely the most beautiful state I have ever lived in!! Love it here!!
I've lived in 13 states and Canada. Arkansas is my home. Love being in the sticks. Live off the Pig Trail and love the scenery. I may have a commute to work, but I had one living in the city as well. Difference is, no stop lights, and beautiful scenery instead of traffic lights and mini marts etc.... you couldn't pay me enough to make me move back to a city.
Where is the pig trail? Looking at AR to retire
@@barbkabat6976 The pig trail is hwy 21 south, south of Huntsville to down by Mulberry. Goes through the National Forest.

Thank you for bringing attention to Arkansas and the Ozarks. You actually passed my home when you passed threw West Fork. I've called the Ozarks home for almost 40 years now. I hope someday you can return and enjoy more of our wonderful state. Maybe next time you can ride the Ouachita mountains here. Stay safe.
did you jus search arkansas like me an click the vid, imagine jus seeing urself randomly standing outside xDDD
@Brain Sigulinsky could you explore some information?
So glad you made it through our state. It is small and slow compared to other places around the country but it is home and we like it that way. Hope you make it back some day.
I was born in Mexico in 1990 and moved to NW Arkansas with my parents in 1995. I grew up going to beaver lake every summer. Fishsing on the white river and floating the Buffalo river in St. Joe. Im so glad my parents brought me and my siblings here. We had the best childhood enjoying the beautiful Arkansas Nature. This will always be home! 💚💚💚🏞🏞
How do the locals treat you since you’re Mexican? I’m Mexican too and am considering exploring Arkansas.
@@iramanuca3556The locals are very friendly. Southern hospitality is in full affect around here. The place i grew up in is 34% Hispanic. You won't find a shortage of taco trucks and Mexican restaurants around here. Theres even a delicious panaderia in town. The culture is very much accepted with the locals. Come visit!

@@abrahamtorres1659 I just got back from southern Texas and our Mexican food is sooooo much better. La Carreta in Lowell is top tier 👍🏻 Gabys on 8th street can't be beat for sweet treats. And mira flores for pupusas! NWA is a great place to live.
Did your parents come to my country legally?
Welcome to my back yard! I have ridden every one of those roads you were on, and then some, while here in Arkansas.Lived here all my life and LOVE it. Know all the roads here and each one holds it's own adventure. Thank you for the video and glad you enjoyed your time here. Ride safe, be alert
What a nice motorcycle adventure!
The name Arkansas comes from the French pronunciation of a Quapaw (an Indian tribe) word, which means "land of people living downstream". The debate was officially established in 1881 by a decision of the federal state - based on the pronunciation of French and Italian immigrants.
Thanks a lot and i'm looking forward to Tennessee!
Thank you for joining like always! Next video will unfortunately be a bit more unpleasant 😩
This is correct and Kansas used an English pronunciation! So the S is pronounced like an S.
Thank you for that my friend, because I actually wondered myself (I am British), I rode through it on the TAT in 2015 on my 690 and thought it was a beautiful state with very friendly and well mannered country people. I don't do cities so country people are the ones whom I relate to and judge states by, perhaps that is not really fair but there we are. It is only my opinion so it doesn't matter. AR is definitely one of my top US states.
I think it's pronounced Ah-kin-sa(w)where the R is in your throat, not on your tongue, and the last S is silent, as the French do.
@@Britishshooter
Thank you sir
What a beautiful job you did in showing the world the Ozarks and the wonderful back roads Arkansas has to offer. Love your videos.
Thank you for making my birth state look so amazing through your beautiful camera work and commentary. The Pig Trail (Hwy 23) gets its name because that used to be the most travelled road for football fans traveling from Little Rock back to Fayetteville, home of the University of Arkansas Razorbacks also know as “The Hogs”. Enjoyed it a lot.
No way! That is so funny! I thought it’s not the pigs trail, but pig tail, because it’s so curvy 😂😂😂
@@Got2Go you’re both right. Thanks for visiting my neck of the woods. I’m glad you enjoyed it and I hope you come back!
And of course not just the fans: back before newer roads were built, that was how my mom (class of 1963) and her mother before her (class of 1933) got up to Fayetteville, and to the U of A, from central or south AR.
I’m from Benton, just outside of Little Rock, in Central AR.
The Ozark region is known for an abundance of sparkling springs, waterfalls, lakes, caves, caverns, and sinks (also known as karstic landforms). In addition, there are many manmade landmarks, such as the Lake of the Ozarks.
True. Even if some are places that never saw illicit moonshine being made or smuggled.
The pig trail is amazing! We are blessed to live in such a gorgeous state
Arkansas is as green as anywhere on Earth, except during winter. Riding is great but to really discover it get off and hike. It is surprisingly rugged and exceptionally beautiful.

Brought back so many memories of my travels in the same general area.
I am also a native of Arkansas, living in Ft. Smith. That’s just south of Fayetteville where I went to college. The Ozarks are truly spectacular. I’ve lived here most of my life, and I never tire of it…in all seasons and weathers. It’s a wonserful place for whitewater canoeing and kayaking, which are two of my favorite things to do. It’s a shame you couldn’t stay at Byrd’s. The owners are friends of mine and very nice people.
From a native Arkansan, thanks for touring the state and for the kind words of the beauty of our state. Your welcome back anytime. Be safe on your journey.
Hello Lea!! Great trip through Arkansas! When you turned left onto Hwy 16 across from the Pelsor Post Office, if you had turned right onto Hwy 123 instead you would have come to the Haw Creek Falls Campground, about 20 miles or so, which is just 3 miles from where we live (you would have passed our county road turnoff). Where you went, Falling Water Falls, is where my church in Ben Hur (you drove past it on Hwy 16) goes for our church picnics, when we have one. Thank you for saying Arkansas is beautiful. We think so too!! Be safe and God bless.
That is for sure a beautiful place for a picnic! Arkansas was really one of my favorite states, you are some lucky people!
The Ozark Mountains are my home. I'm glad you enjoyed the beauty.
So you appreciate the genocide of the natives?
Let me guess, Jesus said it's ok?

You said it! I'm in the Ouachita National Forest and it's paradise. Sooo much better quality of life than California where I lived for 44 years.
@@lisad2701 I am also from California, specifically around the Fresno area. I am looking to get out of this state, since we unsuccessfully tried to get Newsom out of office. I am debating between Arkansas, Texas, and Missouri. I am looking to live in the mountains and grow livestock. Is the ozark mountains a good place to do that? Also is this a state where the government leaves you the hell alone when it comes to mandates?
@@caneloalvarez1516 I can tell you Arkansas and Missouri is much more affordable than Texas. I'm from Texas but live in Kansas. I'm finding out that land prices have really soared in Texas plus property taxes are much higher than in Kansas. I pay $1,500 a year for a 3 bedroom 2.5 baths, 2 living rooms, full kitchen and basement on 1/4th of an acre. I'm hoping to visit Arkansas soon because I love mountains.
just so lovely to watch this. I spent a lot of time in Arkansas when I was a child. I live in Europe now and this made me immensely homesick. so appreciate this beautiful film you made.
I've motorcycled in Arkansas for 50+ years. Lived in Ozone, At one time Oark had 2 general stores. Ridden all over the UAS but the Ozarks of Missouri and Arkansas are my favorite
Rode motorcycle all around and hiked the OHT too. We have a great state.
Did you live in Ozone for the breeze? Living closer to Clarksville is a lot more convenient, but don't wanna live too close cuz that chicken plant puts out some foul smells.

I totally agree! And Onherbike. I have come to appreciate Pedro Mota's channel as well. His somewhat ballsy approach to riding put me off at first, but he's brilliant in his own way, and when he knew the words to The Cure's A Forest, I actually subscribed. That chap is a brother in soul. 🤘

I'm not only part of this portion of the story but I live in this state. I haven't explored much yet having moved here during the pandemic. But what I have seen so far is absolutely beautiful.
Fantastic job of showing of showing off my beautiful state! We’ve enjoyed many burgers at the Oark Cafe
We moved to Arkansas from Oregon about 2 1/2 years ago and absolutely love it here. We live off of 14 in fact! Great video.
I moved to arkansas from texas years ago and i could never go back. This region of arkansas truly is like waking up in a fantasy world. And im so glad you got to see the sunset over the mountains. It never fails to be amazing even in deep storms. If you ever swing through arkansas again. I suggest a few places.
Jack creek
Petit jean waterfall (requires a little hike but it feels like mother nature holding your hand and showing you what beautify actually is)
And fishing and camping at the white/buffalo river resort. Jack creek is a beatiful massive cliff face you can climb and dive from into the deep mountain spring river. Petit jean waterfall is one of the most amazing falls in the whole state. And the white/buffalo river resort is amazing to either travel along for sightseeing, or fish for trout. Ive never caught less than 5 legal trout in a day when i went. And half the time i let them go because the experience of being there is almost enough to feed you without the fish. Even then the trout are always plump amd healthy, great seared, stewed, or smoked.
Hi Mason.. wow makes me want to visit....try this one out on a big trout...cut into steaks about 5/8 inch thick mix real butter minced garlic two spoons parsley one spoon basil ( per butter cube) BBQ or Broil.. Oh don't forget to drizzle with HONEY.
If you BBQ Have water spray bottle because the butter catches fire and flame's up... enjoy!

I've lived in Oklahoma all my life, forty-three years, and we always head east to Arkansas to enjoy the Ozarks. It's been a while, so thank you for taking us on that tour.
Love your video I live here in Arkansas. Right in the middle of the Ozarks, in Mountain Home I do a lot of hiking the trails in the Ozarks and I've started doing what people call tree top camping in my camping hammock. Yes it's a little scary at first but once you get the hang of it it's really relaxing. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.

Lea, I'm glad you thoroughly enjoyed my beautiful state, and shared it with the world. You couldn't have picked a better ride route. Your research was excellent. This is the first, but not last, video I've seen of yours. May you stay safe and dry on your journey.
To be fair: it was not my research that took me to all these places. This guy I met at the gas station (who I unfortunately didn’t film) gave me all these suggestions - and it’s very rare that I meet someone who really exactly suggests me things that I want to see and roads that I enjoy riding. It’s as if he made the script for this episode and I just had to follow it (the only thing I found myself was the campground 😅😅😅
It was absolutely Not the best route. It was a good route, but there are much better ones.
Danke ! Very relaxing to watch your videos, thank you for that, most travel videos in America (by Americans) I cannot watch, like much of the TV. Yours are simple, real, and unadulterated with excellent photography and a connection to the natural world. I married a Texan here in Colorado, whose hillbilly relatives named Jedaloo and Redaloo (no joke) came from Arkansas and he often says how beautiful it is there - or was, back then (most of the planet has lost its soul due to tourism and human gluttony) so who knows now has it has changed, or how much. It looks somewhat still untouched, yet I would have to feel the spirit in the land, if it's still well and truly alive. Im a gypsy soul, born in NZ, been travelling the world since I popped out of the divine oven as many downunder's do, for many years, and exactly like you was searching for Arkansaw for days and then finally said to my hubby, err "Do they call Arkansas Arkansaw" 😁 I see no answers here to our shared dilemma! Keep flying wild and free, that's all we take with us in the end! Tschuss 🌅💟🍀 Sally Jane !
One of the best parts of the video was that you saved that 'unidentified non-flying object'. I loved that.
If a turtle would have looked out of the shell we would have known what it was - but so I still think it could have been an alien 👽

Glad you saw Arkansas ! I am U.S.A.F. Retired 22 years Active Duty Veteran at Little Rock Air Force Base in Jacksonville, Arkansas !
This is a wonderful video. I'm from Southwest Arkansas (Murfreesboro: See 'Crater of Diamonds State Park') but live just east of the Ozarks. I actually have friends in the small town of Oark. You did a wonderful job of covering these special areas of Arkansas. There is so much more to see so near the paths you chose, but it's almost impossible to see it all in one pass.
I hope I can return at one point and see even more. Really loved the ride!

Gorgeous state for road trips and exploring
Lea! OMG! Having grown up in southern Missouri, I thought that I already knew how beautiful the Ozarks are. But, your videos of Arkansas were stunning! PS. Thank you for rescuing the box turtle!
I wish the turtle would have looked out! I don’t even know if it was maybe only a shell? 🤔
@@Got2Go I am sure that your turtle was alive, although it was smaller than most. There are two species of box turtles native to the Ozarks, but they are becoming rare and are protected. You did good to move it off of the road. Thank you!
Never move a turtle from it's area it makes it hard to survive they grow to know there surroundings we have one that comes to our back door almost daily for bread and water we named him lumpy for he's been run over at one time he's very old we have lots of turtles on our property the only problem is they love our strawberry patch
some turtles are as big as boulders.
@@jamesblackwell703 I watched and re-watched that point of the video, and one thing I noticed she could have took it back the direction it was coming from. So, always move them across the direction they were heading towards, or they will just have to walk across again. They are heading that way for their own reason a and won't be deterred. I live in the same county she was doing this in, btw, and I do this kind of thing quite often in spring when they are most likely out looking for mates.
Thanks you for coming and please come again, but gives us a heads up next time.
Lea, very nice ride through a section of the USA that I have never visited. Your wonderful photography has done this beautiful place a real complement ! Thank you once again ! 👍👍
What a beautiful area! We love your commentary when riding! Thanks!
Thank you for visiting our state, i live in the Ozarks not far from Oark . you only touched on a few things our state has to offer. Please come back soon when you have time to stay longer. We also have the Quachita Forest range to the south and the Delta to the east. Each offer a truly unique experience . As a Arkansan i say "Come back and set a spell"
Would love to come back and explore more of the state! Hopefully next year!
I live in Arkansas and grew up at the foothills of the Ozarks. Clinton, Arkansas. Thank you for this video.
That is what happens here in the Ozark lol! You never know when you’re going to see another gas station. Glad you enjoyed our state! Safe travels!
And thanks for saving the turtle!
I love Arkansas! I'm from California and I've lived in Arkansas for 47 years I call it home. Great place to ride motorcycles on and off the road. I've done the Arkansas TAT and the majority of the Arkansas states hwys. Lot's of Twisties fun and beautiful scenery. Everyone should experience The natural state Arkansas you won't be disappointed! Go Hogs! Go Razorbacks!
I was raised at Big Flat, arkansas, the little town with sharp turns before you turned onto dirt road going to bark shed. Oh whow how i miss the area.
Thank you for making such big sacrifices for us by eating that burger.....LOL Seriously though, it really is nice following along with you on your trip! I love that you don't seem to be following any specific route, and will basically go anywhere as long as it is heading east/southeast toward Miami. That is awesome!! Looking forward to your Tennessee video, since that is one of my favorite states here in the U.S.
I was born and raised in the ozark mountains . And that cafe you stopped at in oark I went to school there and my older sister graduated at oark . I was born in newton county and it's the county that's the heart of the ozark mountains .
Arkansas is a Favorite place to ride.
Love the Oark Cafe.
Really enjoy your videos.
Now it’s one of my favorites too!
