I have lived in Arkansas my entire life. Grew up poor, was clean, raised with good manners and lots of love. Was taught to love God, my neighbor, respect my elders and don’t judge others. Just a few basic principals to guide you through life. I was born poor and still have most of it. Proud to be from Arkansas😁
Good on you and good on your family for raising your right. I’ve know plenty of folks who use the excuse of poverty to be trash. Being broke doesn’t mean you gotta be poorly mannered.
I'm with you Brother. We drew tires and windows on pecans and rocks and pushed them around in the dirt instead of Hot wheels. Poured buckets of water on the creek banks and played on mud slides all day. Picked up bottles for candy money. Wrote letters. Mowed our older neighbors grass. Took care of our grandparents and parents till they died. That's real living.
I grew up in Santa Barbara California and now I live in NW Arkansas. I left Calufornia in 1988 and relocated here. It was culture shock for me. Very different. Took over a decade to adapt. At oresent I have a house on 2 acres in the beautiful Ozark mountains. I live a stone's throw from Eureka Springs. My home is paid off, I have gardens, chickens, rabbits and fruit trees (akso bees). I've learned to hunt and butcher game and I go fishing in world class trout rivers. My lifestyle is low pressure, I am extremely healthy and have many many friends. None of this could have been possible had I stayed in Cali. I absolutely love it here in Arkansas.
We're going to be neighbors shortly and cannot wait for that breath of relief as I escape the demoncratic state of WA. It used to be such an amazing place, but it hasn't felt like home for years now and immediately upon seeing the Ozarks it felt like home used to, before the greed and politics ruined it.

Been in Arkansas all my life and and almost all the good looking woman are beautiful until you get to laughing and their missing teeth shows. I met a beautiful woman just outside Little Rock and invited her to a nice restaurant. Everything was fine until she started farting. When she farted she would laugh and thought that was so funny. The management finally asked us to leave because other people was complaining about her farting. I wound up going to Louisiana to get a woman. Much better choice because they can cook out of this world. Less missing teeth to. Mine only has one tooth gone on her lower front. Not too bad heh?

I was born and raised in Arkansas. I’m 29 years old now and I travel internationally but I’ve never come across a place like Arkansas. I guess it’s true when they say “there’s no place like home”.
I feel the same way. I left a few times but always came back. I finally realized money is not everything. The only thing here I could do without is the hot humid summers.
I was born in Arkansas over 70 years ago, but I spent most of my life in Northern Indiana and SW Michigan. I recently returned from a four day trip back to Arkansas, and yes there is poverty there, just as there is poverty in innercity Chicago, Detroit, and other large cities. Money does not maker a person better! What matters is support you receive from your family, friends, and community. None of my family in Arkansas are wealthy, but that does not matter. For the most part they are all hardworking, kind and generous. I will take that any day over the pompas lifestyle of the upperclass subdivisions of the “upper class."
I used to live in CA and NY- after you adjust for cost of living, both of those states have higher poverty rates than AR (CA being significantly higher). People love to talk shit about Arkansas, but the reality is that a middle class income there will afford you a much better and lower stress life than almost anywhere else in America. I wouldn't recommend moving to any of the towns on this list, but moving to Arkansas was the best move of my life.
this is true. Bought a home in little rock for 140,000. My cousin was visiting town and said my house would be worth at least 900,000 in LA. Idk how people can afford to live there.
It's not that simple Robert. Like every state, there are good and bad areas. In general, all of the cities with greater than 50,000 people are perfectly fine. Little Rock and Fort Smith have some shady areas, but it's no worse than any city. Most of Arkansas's poverty and consequently its crime, is focused in the very rural parts of the state. Similar to CA. Sure LA is wealthy, but drive an hour east and you're in the shit hole known as San Bernidino.
@@robertjames6890 I've lived in AR nearly 10 years, and fortunately I've never had anything stolen. I cannot say the same about my much briefer time in CA. The difference is that my income allows me to live in a much nicer neighborhood in AR than what I could afford in CA. High crime neighborhoods? I just don't have to interact with them much. You can't just look at bulk statistics and conclude that an entire state is good or bad- way too simple-minded.
I was born in Fort Smith but raised on the west coast. My old man worked construction and so do I. I'm almost 60, ready to retire and looking at real estate in Arkansas. Some of the poorest people in small towns can be the richest in character and generosity. The patients are running the asylums on the west coast.

Your comment was some time ago but the real estate has changed for the worse now. The people who live and work in Arkansas can no longer afford to buy due to people moving from out of State. And we pay more than the National average for groceries now too.

Well played, sir. We are not far from each other at all. I’m in Faulkner County now (Conway). My wife’s side of the family is in Greenbrier but I am from Crossett. My hometown of Crossett doesn’t have many people moving in as there’s not much left there. Conway and the surrounding areas are a completely different story. You can drive through the neighborhoods in Conway and see tons of out of state plates. It’s great for those who are used to paying those big city prices but we will have to look for a home elsewhere. For example, it was easy to find a starter home for $125,000 two years ago. Those same homes are now over $200,000. This amount goes up during the bidding process. And this is the small 3 bed/2 bath homes. Home owners insurance has increased drastically too. How are regular Arkansan’s supposed to get started? Waiting for recession y’all! 😂
I was born in Arkansas in 1963 and have lived here all my life. I will die here as well because it's home and truly a great place to live. There is not a state in the country that doesn't have once heathy towns that are now struggling and financially distraught due to industry going obsolete or leaving town. Every town you mentioned, at one time, had a vibrant past that attracted people to come and work, play, and raise a family. You're absolutely right that these towns are probably not great places to move to, but there are many many places in this state that people come visit and never want to leave, eventually moving there to enjoy the rest of their lives. The cost of living here is so much less than most places in this country that it doesn't take a six figure income to live comfortably and have nice things. Yes we have a certain amount of poverty, but so does every other state. Most of the people that trash our wonderful state have never even seen it. They watch videos like this that highlight the poorest communities in the state and assume that's what every town is like. Couldn't be farther from the truth. I've never understood why people thinks it's so much fun to focus on the negative.

I've lived in Arkansas all of my life and always told my kids get a education and leave to find jobs they did and they all came back. I think people here are just happy with less I mean we all got nice TVs pretty good trucks and heat and air and we eat good what else does a person need to be happy? @Cobb Knobbler North Tennessee and Kentucky is better, because it isn't as far south. I would pick North Tennessee, because they don't have a state income tax. Kentucky has 5% and arkansas has 6.5% . . so you don't need neither of those withholding's from your SS check.

We live very well from one income and homeschool our three beautiful children. Here life is good even when it ain’t. The land is beautiful and the people are some of the nicest I’ve met.
It shouldn't be but it is. I live in Arkansas but I live in Northwest Arkansas. There is A LOT of money in Northwest Arkansas and I don't have much of it. I'm invisible here.
I am originally from Michigan and was transplanted to Arkansas by the Air Force. My family and I have lived here now for 25+ years and just built our retirement home on the outskirts of Little Rock. People are way friendlier in the south and I like the ruralness of the state.

As a brit who visited arkansas to see friends who live in a small town. I have to say. Most people are really friendly and would share everything they have, very welcoming and a much slower pace of life. Bit of a culture shock to a city boy. But I loved it great people.

I am a Brit who married a girl from AR . And you are 100% spot on. The people there are fantastic . Salt of the earth. Coming from SE England it was a bit of a culture shock at first . But it dont take long to feel welcomed & comfortable . You dont need to scratch too far beneath the surface to realise we are pretty much the same either . Quite unique compared to other States.

A lot of those poor folks probably have a better level of happiness than others that are looked at as being financially well off. I used to live in a poor village of 87 people and it still feels happier there than anywhere else I've lived so far.

As someone who grew up in Wickes, this totally misrepresents this humble little town. It's mostly a farming community made up of salt-of-the-earth folks who have found ways to get by on less. This is the problem with using your metrics to judge these small towns. Just because 30% of a town is below the poverty line doesn't mean 30% of a town is struggling and living in a shack. They may be more self-sustaining and have a farm that supports their way of living. It isn't without problems, but what place isn't? Also, how are you going to make a video like this and wear a shirt that says, "Be nice to each other." I know this will be just one more voice in a sea of comments, but this type of entertainment is the lowest form. It's shallow and uninspired. It accomplishes nothing but wrongly judge places you obviously have never been to.

Lakes to fish in and woods to hunt. I bought a 3bed Brick home for 23,000 2 yrs ago. Cost of living is low here. I wouldn't say most people are below the poverty line. I moved from California to Arkansas 5 years ago. I love it here.
I can say this. As a lifelong resident of West Memphis, Arkansas, I have gotten by pretty well. I just reached another tax bracket ($30,000 range), and I'm doing okay. If you manage your funds right, you can actually live a fairly decent life here.
My grandpa lived in Arkansas for a bit, we visited, and I thought it was pretty nice. Very beautiful. However, my only concern is it is the only state in the US where your landlord can kick you out if you're a day late on rent, and police are called to evict you with no notice. And, you can go to jail, just because the landlord has a lawyer. I don't know, that's scary to me. I rent, and I can't imagine that. Scary stuff, so that makes me hesitant to living there.. unless I was buying.
My family has been in the great State of Arkansas since 1795 and that's on paper. I'm proud to be a native, I'm proud of the values we uphold, and I'm proud some of still have that grit in our eye that make each one of us bleed from the knuckles to put food on the table. God Bless Arkansas. ☝

As I said before this was about 11 years ago. Now everywhere I go all I see is trash trash trash. I mean how do we accumulate sooo much trash and then just throw it out of the car window or worse throw it in the rivers when boating. It's awful now. And I am a true born and bred Delta Arkansan. It is such a beautiful state. People just need to learn to keep their trash and not add to the growing litter problem.
Try the Arkansas Highway Dept., and Governors Hotline. (&) Since the Trash problem, will lower Tourism dollars, they probably will respond! Only takes 20 minutes maximum to let these 'paid' Government workers know. ( Years ago, Texas had a highway, etc., Trash problem. The State began a program to clean it up, that 'still' is effective today called "DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS".😉

I retired here in 2017 from New Orleans. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to look out and see deer wandering the roads instead of people wearing ankle monitors. Beautiful scenery and outdoor activities, and the people who are from here have been very kind and welcoming.
I live in LA; but I got my Ph.D in Fayetteville, AR. I really loved my 4 years that I spent there in the mid to late 1970s. Why not also do a video on the top 10 towns in AR? Your video reinforces stereotypes of southern small towns. Every state has its pockets of poverty under our present economic system. The people of AR are good hard-working folks. I love Joplin ... I worked there on several occasions (construction) always enjoyed it very much . Used to go to the Black Thorn bar in down town, breakfast place right next to railroad on main street . I haven't been there since 2012 I still talk about my Joplin days. I've been all over America and will say SW Missouri is one my favorite places to visit. I thought about moving to Joplin in the past . It's still an idea . Thx .

I grew up in prosperous Northwest Arkansas...basically, the Ozarks. It’s such a good place to live. The quality of life there ranks very high nationally. In addition, the region’s natural beauty is extraordinary. I live in the Seattle area now and I can tell you that Northwest Arkansas is as beautiful as the Pacific Northwest. Sadly, many areas of Arkansas have not been as lucky. If I ever have the opportunity to move back, I will.

I knew a couple of online friends from Manhattan Beach CA and they were downright arrogant and snobby. I verbally blasted them about their horrible attitudes and told them that their taxes need to be jacked up 50% since they were successful and very well off. They have been careful with me ever since that online encounter.
I grew up in Horatio Arkansas and it is a small town no too awfully far from Wicks, Umpire, and Vandervoort (The pronunciation rhymes with FORT. Get it right or STFU.) I had rather live in any one of those places than to live in any town or city that had over 15,000 people. Poverty or not, you will never meet nicer people and in the case of this particular area, it's in the Ouachita Mts. which is a beautiful region. As far as Zinc goes, it's in the Ozark Mts. and right off the Buffalo River which is one of the most scenic rivers in Ark. I live in a small town in GA now, but when my wife retires, rest assured, I will get my azz back to Ark. and probably back to the same area I grew up in. A lot simpler life for sure.
All these towns sound great. As long as there are no assholes like him living there. My family and I go to Ark for vacation every year. We hope to live there someday .

That was a big part of my teen years long before they made a State Park out of it and I still have the scars to prove it, I was a poor boy and couldn't afford things like rubber rafts, canoes, or kayaks. We shot the falls on tractor tire inner tubes.
I have lived and traveled all over the world, and Arkansas is my home and I came back here because even though we might not be rich we have something money can’t buy. Friends that become family if someone’s didn’t have something they need we step up and help each other. This state has some of the BEST people you can find. In Cove Arkansas, the Smith's Food's Grocery Store has been closed... for a year now. We do have a Dollar General store, Miller's Paint and Body shop, Hornet Tire and Body Shop, Cove Hardware, a hardware and feed store, a Coffee Vault shop, a Baja Rios Mexican Restaurant, and Pier 49 restaurant, of which all three are awesome places to eat that people come from Mena to enjoy; we are also home of the Cossatot River Eagles, along with Vandervoort and Wickes. Just updating the info on this tiny, but safe and quiet place to live.
I used to stay in Mena when my Daddy lived down there It's where my great-uncle Don lives🤔lived.... I find myself becoming very somber because I was just very excited very hyper watching the rest of this but pink white expect myself to you have that kind of reaction seeing that name.... Mena. Dry county around there 😔the only thing I really kind of recall is there is a hotel I think it is a hotel that's got a restaurant in itit's kind of like where everybody Amina goes to eat and they're actually really really is there is a police code that they say are they call out for all the officers to go eat Dinner 🤔 and well my stepmom I just love to see how many shades of red I could turn and I was about 19 when I was staying with them and they were all eating dinnerand I remember telling my stepmom are daring her or something like that that I was going to go over and tell one of those officers are asked him if I could play with their handcuffs in gun and I'll be damned if that woman go overit actually say something to them about this and one of them come over and talk to me oh my God it still makes me blush 😊 just recalling the memory of but the top it offafter we're done eating we go back to my great uncle Don's and he tells my daddy how he heard all about it over the scanner 😲😱🤣😂🤦🏼♀️
I'm in Wickes myself. I tried to do the same thing you did but for there. I love Cove though, I always say I'm gonna eat at Rios or Pier but I usually end up making a beer and wine run to the line and grabbing something quick from Scotty's. 😂

My family has lived in Vandervoort said, Vander-vort, Cove, and Wicks for over 125 years. My nephew is the pastor of the church shown in the pictures of Vandervort. When the logging industry left the towns struggled to survive. But they are the kindest people you will ever meet.
I've never seen a riot in Arkansas crime rate is really low and we seldome lock doors . This state is beautiful and pollution is not a problem .the lakes and streams still have clear water .
I would have to say no and yes at the same time. Yes because of the nature aspect plus the cutures in it. No due to the homophobic and racist culture that most have to live around. This may not be for every town or county etc but in my town it personally is not very pleasant to be in.

I live in cove and I love it here. For this guy to give his opinion about a town he should find a vacation rental and hang around the gas station. You will meet some of the nicest people but I believe he messed that up when he was talking about our town. People around here have dignity and respect for their town.
NW Arkansas is a motorcyclist's dream. Great winding roads, quaint small towns to stop and grab something to eat or gas up, and the most scenic mountains anywhere. (I may be prejudiced) Fall is like a magical trip thru a kaleidoscope of color. There is also plenty of places to stay especially in the Eureka Springs and Harrison areas.
I've lived in Northwest Arkansas my whole life and love it here. Admittedly much of Arkansas is different than NWA but most of us think this State is a pretty damned good place to raise a family. The cost of living is reasonable and much of the state is beautiful. The small towns have a charm all their own.
The only thing that I learned from this video is that Briggs is an arrogant ass. I have driven all over Arkansas, and all I have found was happy, hard working, and good people. I am more than sure I could travel to Briggs Democrat shithole in which he lives and find truly unhappy drug addicts crapping on the streets making others unhappy. Well, people can say what they want about Arkansas. I’ve lived in a lot of other states and I chose Arkansas. Yes things need to change, but there are not just poor people living in those towns. They are good neighbors, you come through 3 of those towns I know, you would be invited in for a meal or a glass of tea. If your car was broke down, anyone there would stop to help and not ask for anything in return. We raised our kids here in a small town because of what goes on in big towns. I’ve been there, I know. Come to visit, but ask small town locals where the best spots are and you’ll see it. The best places are a secret, not on any maps. Lol

I lived in Arkansas and got my first place out there, I'm originally from new Mexico but there's nowhere else in the U.S. like the south, I love my home state but people are too stupid there and think everyone down here is racist (I now reside in Louisiana), moving to Arkansas was the greatest move I've made and I loved it there.

I live in Fayetteville, near lakes, a river, Greenways and biking trails, beautiful mountains, and near 4 state parks, one 15 min away, three within 30 and 40 miles. Now you might show some of the nice towns in NW Arkansas, it is beautiful here...

Thanks for saying this. I like his videos about states to move to and some others, but as someone from Arkansas who has witnessed and endured this poverty, the more and more he insults these poorer areas makes me like this channel less and less. We joke about crackheads and hillbillies all the time here, but we don’t joke about people’s lack of access to basic necessities and technology. I was considering subscribing, but not anymore lol.
I was a OTR truck driver for many years. The craziest sights I've ever seen, have happened in Arkansas. I saw a man driving down the road, with a horse standing in the back of his Chevy p/u truck, not tied to anything. That same day, I saw a woman driving a little Toyota four-door car, with about six goats in the car with her. They were hanging their heads out the window, just like a bunch of dogs. Arkansas is a beautiful state, but you never know what you might see there!!
I've lived in AR on and off my whole life. I've lived in a lot of towns near some on his list and they were small and poor. But they also have some wonderful people there. People that would stop and offer assistance if you were stranded etc. What I never saw there was homeless people shooting up and defecating in public places! People are leaving California in droves. I'm sure they aren't moving to Arkansas but that's fine with me! I'm sure California has lots of nice people. I wouldn't know as it's one place I've never been tempted to go. I'll just stay here with all the other po folk!😁

I live mainly in Texas but, twelve years I bought a place in Heber springs Ark that has a few acres and two houses. The people there are below the poverty level but very friendly. Neighbors can be counted on when help when it is needed I remember a tornado came thru one eve and the next morning there were four neighbors there with chain saws to help me clean up three that I didn’t know. They are a proud people that are poor but don’t know it. They treat me like I’m one of them. As my dad once said, it’s no disgrace to be poor, just a little unhandy and money isn’t everything, it just beats the hell out of what is in second place. Everything was great until they started drilling for natural gas around 8 years ago. People went crazy and here came the meth users from the influx of Okies coming in to work, now they have polluted not only the environment but the locals. Such a shame they couldn’t handle prosperity!
When I turned 18 my Dad who worked for the Phone Co GTE in So Cal took a transfer to Des Arc, Arkansas, just south of Georgetown along the banks of the White River. Culture shock! But I quickly adjusted to small town life and created some great memories with the locals who were all very accepting. If you haled from Cali you were treated as a Celebrity. My Uncle years earlier moved his family from So Cal to Mountain Pine Ark. just 9 miles outside of Hot Springs and south of Lake Quatchita. More great memories were made here one Summer with wild & crazy cousins. My grandma finally then spent her final days in a brick house just outside Texarkana, Arkansas. You could say, she had the best of 3 States, but Arkansas was her home. This was Way back in 80-81 and now I'm stuck in So Cal hating everything about this place. Thanks for making this video, you reminded me of some of the happiest times of my life. 😅👍

My mom was born and raised in Arkansas. Only a dirt path to their home, no electricity, no indoor plumbing. Water was brought from the spring as well as storage of food items in that same spring. They were a poor rural farming family even after their move to Missouri.

Yeah. Like Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, Hot Springs, Little Rock, etc. many more. There's crime and poverty everywhere in the US, but most of these other places don't have anything like the beauty of the Ozark Plateau.

On that back road route, those "muddy fields" turn very green and prosper in the summer. They grow much of the countries rice, soybeans, and cotton amongst other crops. Yes the Mississippi River Delta is a poor area but some of the most fertile land around.
Moved to Arkansas almost 14 years ago from Oregon, to the Paragould/Jonesboro area and didn't like it at first but about 5 years ago I moved to the mountain home area in the Ozarks and love it. There's no mosquitoes here like there is in the flat lands and Branson Mo is only 2 hours away, also most people in this area leave you alone and mind there own business. As long as you don't live in the flatlands, Arkansas is actually a really nice place to live

I lived right next to Georgetown, in Japton (you never heard of that place either). It's not really a "town". It once was for early settlers and that and the surrounding area kindof boomed in the late 1800's to early 1900's. It's a small isolated mountain area with people who have more money (definitely assets) than he has. Beautiful property.

The Northwest corner is the last of the Ozark Mountains. Most everything else is flat. I’m guessing that pedo you keep asking about has farmland in the eastern part of the state. Lot of rice farming there. He has land and water rights all over the nation. Nothing I can do about it, so I don’t lose any sleep over it.
I'm from Jacksonville and I have this huge 'urge' to move out into the country.. even if it's in a tent. The privacy, growing my own food, feeding the birds, hunting, fishing.. being away from society. It sounds like everything I could want even with the hardships it will bring.
I lived in Cove. A man who had been having trouble with the water company ( also the Mayor )in Cove , and he drove his lawnmower to the Mayor/water department shot him and called the Sheriff. He got 5 years for manslaughter.

Reading some of the comments here about how some of these rural communities are, I have to agree with them. My family on my dad's side are from Arkansas. I didn't get the chance to grow up around them, but later in life I was fortunate to finally meet them. None of them are well off yet they possess a grace and goodness that astonished me. My folks on my mom's side are all successful, highly educated, upper middle class but they don't have even a fraction of the class my Arkansas relatives have. Yeah, I know there's bad people in Arkansas just like there's bad people every where, but alot of those people you portray in those small poor communities are quality people.
I was born and raised in the Southwest corner of Arkansas. I live there now, because there is nowhere else I would rather be. Arkansas is good, we may not have everything, but I beat we have more than you will ever know. Sorry you are missing out on so much.

I'm a native Arkansan. I've been all over the USA and several countries. I honestly wouldn't want to live in East Arkansas because its flat farmland and not pretty but the rest is beautiful and I've always found other states lacking. You really went out of your way to find the worst. Maybe I should thank you for making us undesirable so we can keep this little slice of heaven for ourselves.
I live in Arkansas out in hilly country in the woods. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Lived in cities and in 6 different states, been trucking from coast to coast and Canada too! One thing I can say is yup we have a few poor places. But we do help our people here. And this state is solvent, something valued here. You are so angry. As a teen who lives in the state i can say that for a kid or teen its very underwelming(at least for my city), but as a retirement place it would be a great pick
I lived in Arkansas for 24 years, and I never heard of any of those places. I lived in Marshal, AR for 4 years, Dumas, AR for 3 years, and Star City, AR for 17 years. Actually 15 years of that was about 7 miles west of Star City, on AR-114. Sadly I am now stuck about 25 miles SE of Phoenix, AZ, and it is HORRIBLE. I want to go back to Arkansas so bad, but it just isn't possible. I recently retired at 62, and put my house in a trust for my kids. So I no longer have the option of selling the house and I don't want to leave my kids and 2 grandkids. I grew up poor, and never had any desire to become rich. Being poor in rural Arkansas is a LOT different than being poor in some ghetto in East LA.
I'm from the Cumberland Plateau section of Eastern Kentucky and I feel a considerable kinship to Arkansas, especially the uplands in that state which are, like home, beautiful, forested hills and rough little mountains. There is wealth beyond money in such places.
I am from Bauxite Arkansas, but move to North Little Rock, Arkansas in 1975 to get a job on the Railroad. Yes it is pretty pitiful here, but I like it. You keep making fun of us is ok with me cause most the people that move here are Damm Yankees. I like our backwoods state. Oh when I retired in 2010 I was making in the mid 50’s. I know that an’t shit if you live in New York or California. But for Arkansas that was pretty good. The Government puts $3600. Dollars in my account each month. I have a nice home 6,500 sq ft with a in grown pool. I drive a 2017 Lexus and a 2019 Ford f150. A 2012 BMW motorcycle. A bluebird Wanderlodge motorhome. A Bass boat in the garage that hasn’t been in the water in 3 years. Wife died in 2002 of breast cancer. Have 7 children all grown 6 have College degrees all paid for by me. I also am Partners in a small airplane. Thank God for poor Arkansas.

I'm with you Brother. We drew tires and windows on pecans and rocks and pushed them around in the dirt instead of Hot wheels. Poured buckets of water on the creek banks and played on mud slides all day. Picked up bottles for candy money. Wrote letters. Mowed our older neighbors grass. Took care of our grandparents and parents till they died. That's real living.

I grew up in Santa Barbara California and now I live in NW Arkansas. I left Calufornia in 1988 and relocated here.
It was culture shock for me. Very different. Took over a decade to adapt.
At oresent I have a house on 2 acres in the beautiful Ozark mountains. I live a stone's throw from Eureka Springs.
My home is paid off, I have gardens, chickens, rabbits and fruit trees (akso bees). I've learned to hunt and butcher game and I go fishing in world class trout rivers.
My lifestyle is low pressure, I am extremely healthy and have many many friends.
None of this could have been possible had I stayed in Cali.
I absolutely love it here in Arkansas.
We're going to be neighbors shortly and cannot wait for that breath of relief as I escape the demoncratic state of WA. It used to be such an amazing place, but it hasn't felt like home for years now and immediately upon seeing the Ozarks it felt like home used to, before the greed and politics ruined it.

The management finally asked us to leave because other people was complaining about her farting. I wound up going to Louisiana to get a woman. Much better choice because they can cook out of this world. Less missing teeth to. Mine only has one tooth gone on her lower front. Not too bad heh?

I was born in Arkansas over 70 years ago, but I spent most of my life in Northern Indiana and SW Michigan. I recently returned from a four day trip back to Arkansas, and yes there is poverty there, just as there is poverty in innercity Chicago, Detroit, and other large cities. Money does not maker a person better! What matters is support you receive from your family, friends, and community. None of my family in Arkansas are wealthy, but that does not matter. For the most part they are all hardworking, kind and generous. I will take that any day over the pompas lifestyle of the upperclass subdivisions of the “upper class."

I used to live in CA and NY- after you adjust for cost of living, both of those states have higher poverty rates than AR (CA being significantly higher). People love to talk shit about Arkansas, but the reality is that a middle class income there will afford you a much better and lower stress life than almost anywhere else in America. I wouldn't recommend moving to any of the towns on this list, but moving to Arkansas was the best move of my life.

CA's poverty rate is 25% - the highest in the country.
It's not that simple Robert. Like every state, there are good and bad areas. In general, all of the cities with greater than 50,000 people are perfectly fine. Little Rock and Fort Smith have some shady areas, but it's no worse than any city. Most of Arkansas's poverty and consequently its crime, is focused in the very rural parts of the state. Similar to CA. Sure LA is wealthy, but drive an hour east and you're in the shit hole known as San Bernidino.
@@robertjames6890 I've lived in AR nearly 10 years, and fortunately I've never had anything stolen. I cannot say the same about my much briefer time in CA. The difference is that my income allows me to live in a much nicer neighborhood in AR than what I could afford in CA. High crime neighborhoods? I just don't have to interact with them much. You can't just look at bulk statistics and conclude that an entire state is good or bad- way too simple-minded.
I was born in Fort Smith but raised on the west coast. My old man worked construction and so do I. I'm almost 60, ready to retire and looking at real estate in Arkansas. Some of the poorest people in small towns can be the richest in character and generosity. The patients are running the asylums on the west coast.

Well played, sir. We are not far from each other at all. I’m in Faulkner County now (Conway). My wife’s side of the family is in Greenbrier but I am from Crossett. My hometown of Crossett doesn’t have many people moving in as there’s not much left there. Conway and the surrounding areas are a completely different story. You can drive through the neighborhoods in Conway and see tons of out of state plates. It’s great for those who are used to paying those big city prices but we will have to look for a home elsewhere. For example, it was easy to find a starter home for $125,000 two years ago. Those same homes are now over $200,000. This amount goes up during the bidding process. And this is the small 3 bed/2 bath homes. Home owners insurance has increased drastically too. How are regular Arkansan’s supposed to get started? Waiting for recession y’all! 😂
I was born in Arkansas in 1963 and have lived here all my life. I will die here as well because it's home and truly a great place to live. There is not a state in the country that doesn't have once heathy towns that are now struggling and financially distraught due to industry going obsolete or leaving town. Every town you mentioned, at one time, had a vibrant past that attracted people to come and work, play, and raise a family. You're absolutely right that these towns are probably not great places to move to, but there are many many places in this state that people come visit and never want to leave, eventually moving there to enjoy the rest of their lives. The cost of living here is so much less than most places in this country that it doesn't take a six figure income to live comfortably and have nice things. Yes we have a certain amount of poverty, but so does every other state. Most of the people that trash our wonderful state have never even seen it. They watch videos like this that highlight the poorest communities in the state and assume that's what every town is like. Couldn't be farther from the truth. I've never understood why people thinks it's so much fun to focus on the negative.

I've lived in Arkansas all of my life and always told my kids get a education and leave to find jobs they did and they all came back. I think people here are just happy with less I mean we all got nice TVs pretty good trucks and heat and air and we eat good what else does a person need to be happy? And everyone knows a bootlegger and a horticulturist will some fine Arkansas homegrown. It ain't bad and I wouldn't leave her.

I’ve been living in the Ozarks for the last decade or so. I manage a small organic grocery and I have a modest homestead. We live very well from one income and homeschool our three beautiful children. Here life is good even when it ain’t. The land is beautiful and the people are some of the nicest I’ve met.

I am originally from Michigan and was transplanted to Arkansas by the Air Force. My family and I have lived here now for 25+ years and just built our retirement home on the outskirts of Little Rock. People are way friendlier in the south and I like the ruralness of the state.

As someone who grew up in Wickes, this totally misrepresents this humble little town. It's mostly a farming community made up of salt-of-the-earth folks who have found ways to get by on less. This is the problem with using your metrics to judge these small towns. Just because 30% of a town is below the poverty line doesn't mean 30% of a town is struggling and living in a shack. They may be more self-sustaining and have a farm that supports their way of living. It isn't without problems, but what place isn't?
Also, how are you going to make a video like this and wear a shirt that says, "Be nice to each other."
I know this will be just one more voice in a sea of comments, but this type of entertainment is the lowest form. It's shallow and uninspired. It accomplishes nothing but wrongly judge places you obviously have never been to.

I live in Arkansas. About 600 people. No Stop lights in town. A river runs along the town. Lakes to fish in and woods to hunt. I bought a 3bed Brick home for 23,000 2 yrs ago. Cost of living is low here. I wouldn't say most people are below the poverty line. I moved from California to Arkansas 5 years ago. I love it here.

I can say this. As a lifelong resident of West Memphis, Arkansas, I have gotten by pretty well. I just reached another tax bracket ($30,000 range), and I'm doing okay. If you manage your funds right, you can actually live a fairly decent life here.
My grandpa lived in Arkansas for a bit, we visited, and I thought it was pretty nice. Very beautiful.
However, my only concern is it is the only state in the US where your landlord can kick you out if you're a day late on rent, and police are called to evict you with no notice. And, you can go to jail, just because the landlord has a lawyer. I don't know, that's scary to me. I rent, and I can't imagine that. Scary stuff, so that makes me hesitant to living there.. unless I was buying.

As I said before this was about 11 years ago. Now everywhere I go all I see is trash trash trash. I mean how do we accumulate sooo much trash and then just throw it out of the car window or worse throw it in the rivers when boating. It's awful now. And I am a true born and bred Delta Arkansan. It is such a beautiful state. People just need to learn to keep their trash and not add to the growing litter problem.
Try the Arkansas Highway Dept., and Governors Hotline. (&) Since the Trash problem, will lower Tourism dollars, they probably will respond! Only takes 20 minutes maximum to let these 'paid' Government workers know. ( Years ago, Texas had a highway, etc., Trash problem. The State began a program to clean it up, that 'still' is effective today called "DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS".😉

I retired here in 2017 from New Orleans. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to look out and see deer wandering the roads instead of people wearing ankle monitors. Beautiful scenery and outdoor activities, and the people who are from here have been very kind and welcoming.

I love Joplin ... I worked there on several occasions (construction) always enjoyed it very much . Used to go to the Black Thorn bar in down town, breakfast place right next to railroad on main street . I haven't been there since 2012 I still talk about my Joplin days. I've been all over America and will say SW Missouri is one my favorite places to visit. I thought about moving to Joplin in the past . It's still an idea . Thx .

I grew up in prosperous Northwest Arkansas...basically, the Ozarks. It’s such a good place to live. The quality of life there ranks very high nationally. In addition, the region’s natural beauty is extraordinary. I live in the Seattle area now and I can tell you that Northwest Arkansas is as beautiful as the Pacific Northwest. Sadly, many areas of Arkansas have not been as lucky. If I ever have the opportunity to move back, I will.

He is originally from one of those beach cities to the west of Los Angeles so his arrogant sarcasm doesn’t surprise me one bit. I knew a couple of online friends from Manhattan Beach CA and they were downright arrogant and snobby. I verbally blasted them about their horrible attitudes and told them that their taxes need to be jacked up 50% since they were successful and very well off. They have been careful with me ever since that online encounter.
I grew up in Horatio Arkansas and it is a small town no too awfully far from Wicks, Umpire, and Vandervoort (The pronunciation rhymes with FORT. Get it right or STFU.) I had rather live in any one of those places than to live in any town or city that had over 15,000 people. Poverty or not, you will never meet nicer people and in the case of this particular area, it's in the Ouachita Mts. which is a beautiful region. As far as Zinc goes, it's in the Ozark Mts. and right off the Buffalo River which is one of the most scenic rivers in Ark. I live in a small town in GA now, but when my wife retires, rest assured, I will get my azz back to Ark. and probably back to the same area I grew up in. A lot simpler life for sure.
All these towns sound great. As long as there are no assholes like him living there.

In Cove Arkansas, the Smith's Food's Grocery Store has been closed... for a year now. We do have a Dollar General store, Miller's Paint and Body shop, Hornet Tire and Body Shop, Cove Hardware, a hardware and feed store, a Coffee Vault shop, a Baja Rios Mexican Restaurant, and Pier 49 restaurant, of which all three are awesome places to eat that people come from Mena to enjoy; we are also home of the Cossatot River Eagles, along with Vandervoort and Wickes. Just updating the info on this tiny, but safe and quiet place to live.
I remember back when they fished the government agent's body out of the pond in the Cove/Van-Cove area. Good times.
I used to stay in Mena when my Daddy lived down there It's where my great-uncle Don lives🤔lived.... I find myself becoming very somber because I was just very excited very hyper watching the rest of this but pink white expect myself to you have that kind of reaction seeing that name.... Mena. Dry county around there 😔the only thing I really kind of recall is there is a hotel I think it is a hotel that's got a restaurant in itit's kind of like where everybody Amina goes to eat and they're actually really really is there is a police code that they say are they call out for all the officers to go eat Dinner 🤔 and well my stepmom I just love to see how many shades of red I could turn and I was about 19 when I was staying with them and they were all eating dinnerand I remember telling my stepmom are daring her or something like that that I was going to go over and tell one of those officers are asked him if I could play with their handcuffs in gun and I'll be damned if that woman go overit actually say something to them about this and one of them come over and talk to me oh my God it still makes me blush 😊 just recalling the memory of but the top it offafter we're done eating we go back to my great uncle Don's and he tells my daddy how he heard all about it over the scanner 😲😱🤣😂🤦🏼♀️

NW Arkansas is a motorcyclist's dream. Great winding roads, quaint small towns to stop and grab something to eat or gas up, and the most scenic mountains anywhere. (I may be prejudiced) Fall is like a magical trip thru a kaleidoscope of color. There is also plenty of places to stay especially in the Eureka Springs and Harrison areas.
Eureka springs is a great little town for sure , I love hanging out there
I've lived in Northwest Arkansas my whole life and love it here. Admittedly much of Arkansas is different than NWA but most of us think this State is a pretty damned good place to raise a family. The cost of living is reasonable and much of the state is beautiful. The small towns have a charm all their own.

Well, people can say what they want about Arkansas. I’ve lived in a lot of other states and I chose Arkansas. Yes things need to change, but there are not just poor people living in those towns. They are good neighbors, you come through 3 of those towns I know, you would be invited in for a meal or a glass of tea. If your car was broke down, anyone there would stop to help and not ask for anything in return. We raised our kids here in a small town because of what goes on in big towns. I’ve been there, I know. Come to visit, but ask small town locals where the best spots are and you’ll see it. The best places are a secret, not on any maps. Lol

I lived in Arkansas and got my first place out there, I'm originally from new Mexico but there's nowhere else in the U.S. like the south, I love my home state but people are too stupid there and think everyone down here is racist (I now reside in Louisiana), moving to Arkansas was the greatest move I've made and I loved it there.

I live in Fayetteville, near lakes, a river, Greenways and biking trails, beautiful mountains, and near 4 state parks, one 15 min away, three within 30 and 40 miles. Now you might show some of the nice towns in NW Arkansas, it is beautiful here...

Thanks for saying this. I like his videos about states to move to and some others, but as someone from Arkansas who has witnessed and endured this poverty, the more and more he insults these poorer areas makes me like this channel less and less. We joke about crackheads and hillbillies all the time here, but we don’t joke about people’s lack of access to basic necessities and technology. I was considering subscribing, but not anymore lol.
I was a OTR truck driver for many years. The craziest sights I've ever seen, have happened in Arkansas. I saw a man driving down the road, with a horse standing in the back of his Chevy p/u truck, not tied to anything. That same day, I saw a woman driving a little Toyota four-door car, with about six goats in the car with her. They were hanging their heads out the window, just like a bunch of dogs. Arkansas is a beautiful state, but you never know what you might see there!!
I've lived in AR on and off my whole life. I've lived in a lot of towns near some on his list and they were small and poor. But they also have some wonderful people there. People that would stop and offer assistance if you were stranded etc. What I never saw there was homeless people shooting up and defecating in public places! People are leaving California in droves. I'm sure they aren't moving to Arkansas but that's fine with me! I'm sure California has lots of nice people. I wouldn't know as it's one place I've never been tempted to go. I'll just stay here with all the other po folk!😁

I live mainly in Texas but, twelve years I bought a place in Heber springs Ark that has a few acres and two houses. The people there are below the poverty level but very friendly. Neighbors can be counted on when help when it is needed I remember a tornado came thru one eve and the next morning there were four neighbors there with chain saws to help me clean up three that I didn’t know. They are a proud people that are poor but don’t know it. They treat me like I’m one of them. As my dad once said, it’s no disgrace to be poor, just a little unhandy and money isn’t everything, it just beats the hell out of what is in second place. Everything was great until they started drilling for natural gas around 8 years ago. People went crazy and here came the meth users from the influx of Okies coming in to work, now they have polluted not only the environment but the locals. Such a shame they couldn’t handle prosperity!
When I turned 18 my Dad who worked for the Phone Co GTE in So Cal took a transfer to Des Arc, Arkansas, just south of Georgetown along the banks of the White River. Culture shock! But I quickly adjusted to small town life and created some great memories with the locals who were all very accepting. If you haled from Cali you were treated as a Celebrity.
My Uncle years earlier moved his family from So Cal to Mountain Pine Ark. just 9 miles outside of Hot Springs and south of Lake Quatchita. More great memories were made here one Summer with wild & crazy cousins.
My grandma finally then spent her final days in a brick house just outside Texarkana, Arkansas. You could say, she had the best of 3 States, but Arkansas was her home. This was Way back in 80-81 and now I'm stuck in So Cal hating everything about this place. Thanks for making this video, you reminded me of some of the happiest times of my life. 😅👍

My mom was born and raised in Arkansas. Only a dirt path to their home, no electricity, no indoor plumbing. Water was brought from the spring as well as storage of food items in that same spring. They were a poor rural farming family even after their move to Missouri.

On that back road route, those "muddy fields" turn very green and prosper in the summer. They grow much of the countries rice, soybeans, and cotton amongst other crops.
Yes the Mississippi River Delta is a poor area but some of the most fertile land around.

Moved to Arkansas almost 14 years ago from Oregon, to the Paragould/Jonesboro area and didn't like it at first but about 5 years ago I moved to the mountain home area in the Ozarks and love it. There's no mosquitoes here like there is in the flat lands and Branson Mo is only 2 hours away, also most people in this area leave you alone and mind there own business. As long as you don't live in the flatlands, Arkansas is actually a really nice place to live

I lived right next to Georgetown, in Japton (you never heard of that place either). It's not really a "town". It once was for early settlers and that and the surrounding area kindof boomed in the late 1800's to early 1900's. It's a small isolated mountain area with people who have more money (definitely assets) than he has. Beautiful property.

Arkansas is only mountainous in the northern part of the state, and even then, mostly central Arkansas going west. The Northwest corner is the last of the Ozark Mountains. Most everything else is flat.
I’m guessing that pedo you keep asking about has farmland in the eastern part of the state. Lot of rice farming there. He has land and water rights all over the nation. Nothing I can do about it, so I don’t lose any sleep over it.
I'm from Jacksonville and I have this huge 'urge' to move out into the country.. even if it's in a tent. The privacy, growing my own food, feeding the birds, hunting, fishing.. being away from society. It sounds like everything I could want even with the hardships it will bring.
I lived in Cove. A man who had been having trouble with the water company ( also the Mayor )in Cove , and he drove his lawnmower to the Mayor/water department shot him and called the Sheriff.

Reading some of the comments here about how some of these rural communities are, I have to agree with them. My family on my dad's side are from Arkansas. I didn't get the chance to grow up around them, but later in life I was fortunate to finally meet them. None of them are well off yet they possess a grace and goodness that astonished me. My folks on my mom's side are all successful, highly educated, upper middle class but they don't have even a fraction of the class my Arkansas relatives have. Yeah, I know there's bad people in Arkansas just like there's bad people every where, but alot of those people you portray in those small poor communities are quality people.

I'm a native Arkansan. I've been all over the USA and several countries. I honestly wouldn't want to live in East Arkansas because its flat farmland and not pretty but the rest is beautiful and I've always found other states lacking. You really went out of your way to find the worst. Maybe I should thank you for making us undesirable so we can keep this little slice of heaven for ourselves.
I live in Arkansas out in hilly country in the woods. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Lived in cities and in 6 different states, been trucking from coast to coast and Canada too! One thing I can say is yup we have a few poor places. But we do help our people here. And this state is solvent, something valued here. You are so angry. As a teen who lives in the state i can say that for a kid or teen its very underwelming(at least for my city), but as a retirement place it would be a great pick
I lived in Arkansas for 24 years, and I never heard of any of those places. I lived in Marshal, AR for 4 years, Dumas, AR for 3 years, and Star City, AR for 17 years. Actually 15 years of that was about 7 miles west of Star City, on AR-114. Sadly I am now stuck about 25 miles SE of Phoenix, AZ, and it is HORRIBLE. I want to go back to Arkansas so bad, but it just isn't possible. I recently retired at 62, and put my house in a trust for my kids. So I no longer have the option of selling the house and I don't want to leave my kids and 2 grandkids. I grew up poor, and never had any desire to become rich. Being poor in rural Arkansas is a LOT different than being poor in some ghetto in East LA.
I'm from the Cumberland Plateau section of Eastern Kentucky and I feel a considerable kinship to Arkansas, especially the uplands in that state which are, like home, beautiful, forested hills and rough little mountains. There is wealth beyond money in such places.

I am from Bauxite Arkansas, but move to North Little Rock, Arkansas in 1975 to get a job on the Railroad. Yes it is pretty pitiful here, but I like it. You keep making fun of us is ok with me cause most the people that move here are Damm Yankees. I like our backwoods state. Oh when I retired in 2010 I was making in the mid 50’s. I know that an’t shit if you live in New York or California. But for Arkansas that was pretty good. The Government puts $3600. Dollars in my account each month. I have a nice home 6,500 sq ft with a in grown pool. I drive a 2017 Lexus and a 2019 Ford f150. A 2012 BMW motorcycle. A bluebird Wanderlodge motorhome. A Bass boat in the garage that hasn’t been in the water in 3 years. Wife died in 2002 of breast cancer. Have 7 children all grown 6 have College degrees all paid for by me. I also am Partners in a small airplane. Thank God for poor Arkansas.
