- 10 Whitest Countries NOT in Europe.
Today I am going to tell you about the 10 countries with the highest percentage of white residents outside of Europe. I am sure some will surprise you.
After our black-and-white series, I had a lot of requests to do the same thing for countries. I did a little research and decided to go with the whitest countries outside of Europe and Scandinavia. I have to throw that Scandinavia part in there because some people don’t consider Norway, Sweden, and Finland part of Europe. They are part of Europe but some people scour RUclips videos for anything they consider a mistake and try and turn it into their gotcha moment of the day.
Now, what are white people and where are they now? We have used people of European origin to define the term “white” in this video. White obviously isn’t a race even though it is a race choice when you apply to be the night cook and boxing coach at Waffle House.

First time in my life hearing that there are people who think Scandinavia isn't part of Europe.
You know when I heard that I was surpeised as well.
If you keep listening to Americans eventually you discover that there are several Mexican countries and that the pyramids were built by aliens.
Literally nobody says that or thinks that.
Even many British claim they are NOT Europeans.
Also, Scandinavia consists of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Meanwhile, Finland is part of the Nordic countries but, strictly speaking, *not* a Scandinavian country.
I think you forgot Uruguay and New Zealand
Uruguay has more cows than Uruguayan citizens
I just commented the same. Perhaps there is minimum population to make that list?
I was gonna say the same thing. He missed Uruguay and New Zealand on the list, more specifically in the Top 5

How is the healty care out there? How are the circumstances out there in argentina? Please a anest answer. If you can.
The father of our nation, Chile :-), was an irish descendant, Bernardo O'Higgins, son of the viceroy of Perú, Mr Ambrosio O'Higgins, who served in the spanish army. I read that a lot of irish people escaped from the british to Spain, during the 18th century...

Do the argentinos call them self still as spanish people in argentina? Please answer me please. If you really live in argentina.
The one from Brazil wasn’t really surprising to me. The country is probably the most diverse country in the world. I’m remember when I was living a Mexico doing a volunteer work with other foreigners, there was 15 Brazilians in my group and I remember the other volunteers from other countries were always so impressed that every single one of those Brazilians looked completely different. You had, black, white, mixed, asian descendants and etc. With all types of hair, eyes colors, skin tones and etc.
The history of our country is very rich. After Portugal arrived here, countries like Holland, Spain and France also had a presence in our territory, Brazil also received many slaves who came from Africa. When Napoleon was spreading terror in Europe, the Portuguese royal family came to live in Brazil, many Portuguese came together. Then, in the immigration waves we had, many Italians, Germans, Japanese, more Portuguese, Austrians and Chinese also came here en masse. In more recent waves many Lebanese have come as well. In fact, in Brazil there are more Lebanese than in Lebanon itself (which is bizarre).
Our country is a great mix of peoples!!

I thought Brazil has one of the highest diaspora in people of African descent?

The reality in Brazil is that not only Europeans migrated to Brazil during the great wars as mentioned. There were waves of migration before that and acctually even before the most known big migration waves: Italians, Japanese, Polish and some others. Even before those, there were eventually Portuguese aristocrats that moved to Brazil every year and then to help to occupy the territory or to make a better life. Meanwhile, a Brazilian mix were already taking place creating the Brazilians we know today.
What surprised me about Brazil is that more Italians emigrated from Italy to Brazil than to the United States. I looked that up a few months ago. I used to work remotely with Brazilian software engineers and I remember that some of their names sounded quite Italian. For the dummies, I know Italian and Portuguese are Romance languages.

I live in Europe and when I say I'm Uruguayan they are relatively often confused. I got asked pretty often why I'm not black or dark skinned. A lot of people have no clue that a lot of Europeans came to south America especially Argentina Uruguay and southern Brazil, have seen that also with white Brazilians here that people expect Brazilians to be dark skinned.
Generally known as the Southern Cone, it includes Uruguay, Argentina, Southern Brazil, Chile, and Paraguay, from there it would be darker, except for parts of Peru, Colombia, and Venezuela.

Whiteness is different in Latin America compared to how Anglo Americans see it. It's sort of the opposite of the one-drop rule. A lot of people who would not be white in the US are considered white in Latin America.

Yup as I thought Uruguay, Chile and Argentina have the most people of European ancestry in Latin America.
You missed out a very obvious country - New Zealand. According to the same source that you used, New Zealand is 65.6% white which places them at number six, ahead of Brazil and so South Africa would drop off the bottom of the list.
I think it's terms of population when you take New Zealand they have 3.4 million white people and South Africa has 5.4 million white people

South Africa almost have double the entire New Zealand population which is white... So I guess he chose countries with bigger populations.. There's a place in South Africa with a 100% white population called Orania 1 of the fastest growing places in the country, It's actually a Afriker ( white) homeland which seeks to be a independent country in the future, like Lesotho or Swaziland also inside South Africa but totally independent... Other tribes like Zulu also wants to part ways, I think South Africa would crumble into a few countries soon, like they were before the British forced all of them into one, the country is devided and getting worse
Wiki says NZ is 71.8% Euopean (white?) so def in the top 5 or 6. However, it seems that many whites are moving to Australia (my country) so this % may be declining over time, lol!
@@glenfarmer1783 That is nonsense. South Africa was united from a diversity of territories in 1910, and ever since then people have been predicting it is about to fall apart. There have been secessionist movements by a variety of people,, which most countries have to some degree. Actually, for its diversity, SA has surprisingly few, and no-one takes them seriously. South Africa is now more integrated than ever before and will probably continue on that path. All over the world, secessionists have big mouths. But forces in SA are clearly centripetal, not centrifugal.
Never heard someone saying “Scandinavia isn’t Europe”, never!! Also, what about New Zealand, Uruguay, Paraguay, they are mostly white?
Paraguay not much, the others definitely yes...
I'm Argentinian. The term "white" is ambiguous. To us it refers to any Western European ethnic and that includes Spanish and Italian (our largest ethnicities btw) whereas for a US-based conception, white are those with Germanic, Anglo-Saxon or Slavic origins (in other words: just *blondes*). Argentina has tons of blonde people but not as much as it can be seen in some areas of the US and still they aren't a majority... I bet to say that the average Argentinian is a white brunette with brown or green eyes and gringos tend to call these people *Latino*. I'm ethnically a 100% Italian (my 4 grandparents were Italian just in case) and I'm still be seen by US people not as "white" but as *Latino* (which I really happen to be, cause Italians just INVENTED the "Latino" thing)
Un caso igual al tuyo es la mujer de messi 100% origen italiana y es morocha
Yes what’s wrong in in being Latino I didn’t see a lot of blondes in buenos areas but yes u guys are very European
@@kangaroojack7678 there's nothing wrong with being "Latino". I just said that it's quite ambiguous because it has slightly different meanings depending on where you are from. To us it means to be from southern European origins (which we also consider "white") and to US people it means being from native American origins mixed with Spanish.
Everything you said is wrong, all European groups are considered white in the US (in the US census even people from the Middle East and North Africa are considered white), what can happen in the case of Latin Americans is ignorance of North Americans who think all Latinos are mixed race or maybe even worse, this can be xenophobic.

I usually enjoy your videos but to miss New Zealand and to even mention that Scandinavia may not be considered part of Europe makes me wonder how accurate your other videos are.
Truth
In the nineteenth century, race was often determined as much by your ancient ancestry as by your physical appearance. "Racial" maps of that era look strange to us because many places outside Europe were labeled "Caucasoid," while some places in Europe were not. (Of course, I'm not even taking into account maps that showed the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to be "naturally" white.) The entire northern half of India often got color-coded "Aryan" along with most of Europe because Hindi is an Indo-EUROPEAN language; it was thought that northern Indians were "Melanochroi," or dark-skinned Caucasians. By contrast, Finland (which is in Scandinavia) and Hungary were labeled "Mongoloid" because Finnish and Hungarian are non-Indo-European languages that ultimately originated in northern Asia; of course, the slightly slanted eyes and somewhat yellow complexions of a substantial number of those peoples also placed them outside the "Caucasoid" category.
Since then, DNA analysis has rendered the above thinking obsolete. Many people in India do have some ancient genetic markers from Europe, but they also have unique markers that justify assigning them to their own racial category much of the time. Hungarians, meanwhile, are now classed as fully European because centuries of mixing with Germanic and Slavic peoples has eliminated any Asian genetic markers they once had, the occasional slanted eyes notwithstanding. All that said, Finland and the Baltic states are some of the most genetically homogeneous countries in the world today, being the only location of Y-chromosome DNA haplogroup N, which means that it's possible to speak of a unique "Baltic" race. And Roma (Gypsies) are still more genetically Indian than they are European, even though they no longer live in India at all. Human biology is weird.
Australia’s Asian population is close to 20%. Pacific island population is fairly high and about 5% is indigenous. So I’m not sure how accurate this stuff is tbh
New Zealand fell off the map again, and it took Uruguay with it.
everyone says New Zealand and Uruguay, but no one remembers Cuba and Costa Rica.

That is a mistake that many make, it is the opposite for the Second World War, many Argentines went to help their countries during the World War, that is, many of them returned to Europe. The massive immigration from Europe was received in the years 1870 to 1930 when Argentina was famous for liberalism and the delivery of land to Anglo-Saxon citizens so that they could make the country grow more since the Anglo-Saxon culture was different from that of the South, such as Spain or Italy. That is why so much whiteness, industrialization made the liberals in Argentina disclose immigration to Europe, prioritizing the English and Germans. But as always happens, more come those who are in crisis, which was Italy and Spain. but despite them, thanks to the Anglo-Saxon immigration to Argentina, it became a world power, then due to the massive Italian immigration to Argentina, it became what Italy was under Mussolini and became a small socialist Italy and little by little the country began to be destroyed. country. to the fact that today there is too much indigenous immigration as it happens to the United States and the descendants of Europeans are leaving which the white population is decreasing and the country became an Italy with the usual problems became a country insecure as are countries with a large number of indigenous descendants such as Mexico, Bolivia or Central America.

If you have lunch in the food court at the University of Toronto--Scarborough, you will find yourself among a sea of Asian faces. And I happened to get to Melbourne's celebration of Chinese New Year, and also saw lots of Asians there; Sydney's Asians appear to be more South Asian. Not sure why you missed the capital, Canberra, when ticking off Australian cities.
I'm an Australian. What I actually found was that South Asians were more in Melbourne, and East Asians in Sydney, but then again every suburb differs in the demographics.
Social factors also play a role. California is a historically segregated state, despite never having slavery and only a little institutionalized "Jim Crow." For the most part, due partly to suburbanization and partly due to vast tracts of land that allowed different groups of people to isolate themselves, different types of Californians used to remain aloof from each other; even the Christian and Jewish "Anglo" populations in Los Angeles refused to mix for many years. Some of this social homogenization can still be seen. The rather "nerdy" movie club I belong to, which meets at one of the local Starbuck's (a stereotypically Caucasian place if ever there was one), is disproportionately white by California standards, with just one Japanese-American and two Chicano brothers who are fair-skinned enough to "pass."

Well that why when the Washington post 'reporter' wrote an article questioning the lack of Diversity in the Argentine World Cup soccer team, she was soundly ratioed!!
funny she didn't mention the french or african teams.
@@jsmyth65 ahaha yes. and Japan
I'm from New Zealand, and it is extremely multi ethnic, far more than many other countries that visited. There is a sizable native population (Maori), or mixed race population, comprising about 16 percent of the population, large Pasifika community, Asian, Indian. The culture and feel, and the administration of the place is European, but we were colonised, by the British, with many of our settlers coming from all parts of Europe.
They are some people in Latin America, the middle east, north Africa and central Asia that would call themselves White. But in Europe and north America people would consider them brown. Or brown Caucasians. Regardless of census categorization

My wife and I went to Australia a few years back and we had a great time. But there's one thing that wore us out, we spent almost 22 hrs to fly there. And another 22hrs to fly back, almost 2 days of our trip was spent on planes. My butt was numb, took me almost a week to get the feeling back. Lol
That's why I decided I would never fly to far off destinations as long as I don't have the financial means to fly business.

Oh we were in first class got up and moved around a bit, but you still end up sitting most of the time.
As an Australian who has travelled (and most do) you get used to it! You only do it once. We do it many times to get to visit the rest of the world.
Get a cruise ship next time.

We love your country and would love to explore it some more. But the flight is a killer, we plan on going back in the next 5yrs. Hope my butt can stand it.
So Brigg's what do you consider Iceland? Is it European or North American? Remember the island is on both tectonic plates N. America and Europe and Reykjavik is on the N. American plate too.
In US school, Iceland is categorized as Europe
I would have put Iceland to be no. 1 ...
It is part of North America
@@WorldAccordingToBriggs Well, it should be part of Europe. It's more European than north American.
If you google Europe just about every map has Iceland in it.
Actually, estimate of Mexico is between 15% and 30%, don’t forget Mexico was conquered by Europeans and invaded by them several times.
My FIL loves telling me all about Mexico and how it's so diverse. There are villages created by European immigrants during WW1&2. Apparently it's made very interesting food combinations that I hope to experience one day.
But a main reason for the high percentage is due to Spanish colonization in south America. Many Spaniard men went and had children with indigenous women so many people are half Spanish half something else, but look very white.
Yep.. I have 2 girlfriends who are sisters , their grandparents immigrated from Mexico .. but one of them took a 23 & me gene test that showed she was 85% European.., both of them were surprised... but to be honest I wasn't that surprised... they are paler then me AND their brother has the MOST gorgeous dark blue eyes ! Their so hilarious , after reading their DNA results they told me to "stop bashing our people or I'll kick you out the white race " .. it's not funny sounding on here ..but she said it in a thick latin accent and tied a Spanish phrase at the end 😂

@@alejandrodominguez706 things are not going well in Brazil now, hope it is okay for you.
In other words those Spaniard Men betrayed their own race.
@@noiretteallure What exactly do you mean by betraying their own race? If you mean racial purity, then interbreeding would not have been allowed, so sorry to break it to you but that concept was something that the British empire and the US worked their societies around (hence why interbreeding did not occur in the US, and the low Native American population), so this concept did not exist in the Spanish empire (of course this does not imply that racism did not exist, just that it was not something they gave priority or importance to because social status was much more important), classism existed and that was inherited from the Romans, that is why many Spanish speaking countries have classism as one of the main problems in their societies.
(Besides, Spanish women also participated in the interbreeding/mestizaje).
just met a guy that grew up in south africa, he said his cousins are saying crime is up in the area he was from.

How in the hell is Uruguay not on this list. I would love to understand your metrics.
New Zeland also is not , and Argentina is not 97% white , maybe 60% but not more

My observation in Argentina is that many white people have some native American ancestry too. In the US, they might choose to have Native American tribal affiliation. Some are even blue-eyed and blonde-haired.
Even without finishing the video, I can say that again, people forgot about the existence of Uruguay and especially Paraguay. They are at least top 7 white ish nation, displacing the last 2.
Edit: according to the comments, this list is harder to do than it seems
The number of white people is too small Uruguay have only 3 mil people for example Brazil 46% white would be around 100 mil people
I'm chilean. It is surprising to see that 88% of people are considered white. But I've gotta ask, as oposed to what, exactly? Most chileans are "mestizo", which means that in some extent, they have indigenous blood too. Argentina could be whiter, and Brazil even more.
What means to be white in latin America is not the same as it is in the US. In Latin America being white means nothing but that, having light color skin. It's not a race, nor a culture.
It's strange that in Latinoamerican youtube videos about the percentage of white people in each country Uruguay is number one, but in this video Argentina is number one in the world and Uruguay doesn't even appear in the top ten. Argentinians and Uruguayans have the same origin.
Quiza solo nombre a los q tienen mayor poblacion uruguay solo tiene 3.5 millones de personas.
Mencionó que la fuente era del CIA. Claramente el CÍA no incluyó Uruguay en su lista. Tal vez por su población (es re pequeña)
No way Uruguay is not on that list. Greetings from Uruguay.
Yeah, those numbers are a bit exaggerated for some countries. Most people will classify themselves as White when they have lighter complexion.
