I really want someone to allow customers to cherry-pick features for their laptop. They can later make these choices public & open to be rated & chosen by other customers.
I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 two/three months ago. I am already having problems with it - poor design. The fan keeps running with youtube videos. Part of the reason is that the air vents are at the bottom and there is not enough of a gap to cool the laptop. The fan stops when I flip the laptop over (lid closed) and the vents are fully exposed (it is still on and videos are playing with the lid closed). The vent should be mentioned in any review. Also, the screen is separating at the corner already and happens whenever I open the laptop.
I’ve had to send one back and the replacement they sent is having issues too. BIOS settings make it so impractical and cause issues and like you say the fans are terrible in terms of design/placement. Overheats and shuts down for days on end
Dave2D rated the Acer Predator terrible because of the extremely loud fans. They made the case too thin for the heat generated by the CPU/GPU components, meaning stupidly loud fans.

A very high fraction of the HP Spectre X360 suddenly will not turn on. Typically happens a few months after the warrenty expires. HP charges $560 for the repair.
Same thing happened to mine. It's as if they install a timer within the system and when it finally runs its course, you find it will cost you an arm to repair, and the company will try to sway you in purchasing a new system all together.
