I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 two/three months ago. I am already having problems with it - poor design. The fan keeps running with youtube videos. Part of the reason is that the air vents are at the bottom and there is not enough of a gap to cool the laptop. The fan stops when I flip the laptop over (lid closed) and the vents are fully exposed (it is still on and videos are playing with the lid closed). The vent should be mentioned in any review. Also, the screen is separating at the corner already and happens whenever I open the laptop.

I’ve had to send one back and the replacement they sent is having issues too. BIOS settings make it so impractical and cause issues and like you say the fans are terrible in terms of design/placement. Overheats and shuts down for days on end

Apple is the elite when it comes to design & technology. However it’s also the elite when it comes to prices. Quality? Not so good anymore. I like the ThinkPad X1 Carbon. I'd be willing to pay for a private consult on which laptop I should get, is that something you do? (DM me if so)
The laptop I want is a high performance gaming/programming laptop (I intend to make games on it and would like to play games that aren't 10 years old anymore). Budget is no issue and Id gladly pay 4 grand for the laptop but would be annoyed if the price vs performance ratio was not the best I could possibly get. Screen size and battery life is not that important for me as I suspect most of the time it would be plugged into my setup and only rarely would I work at a cafe or something (cafes have charging spots these days anyway)

Look at the Razer Blade and Asus ROG Zephyrus lineups. These are typically the more popular gaming laptop brands. I believe razer is the more expensive but generally better choice but do your research on both. The newer laptops from both lineups contain 3000 series mobile graphics cards.

That last laptop would be perfect if they did away with the redundant trackpad. And included a full sized keyboard.

Been using an Inspiron for 3+ years now. Not the best build-wise but if you want decent specs with limited budget (it's the best choice). Dell is the best brand in most business use-cases. Latitudes and Inspirons are one of the easiest laptops to repair and third-party replacement parts are not difficult to come by. Plus their service manuals are one of the best I've seen so far.
