Disney has decided the parks are no longer for families. Now they add stress financially and are like a college trying to gouge you for all your worth.

@marshalmarrs3269 they really should have kept the Touchstone label as a way to separate what audiences they're aiming for. I don't understand why these people can't grasp the concept of making different movies for different ages instead of making everything a bland PG-13. I get that a broad appeal usually means more $ to them, but it's certainly not working anymore.

Additionally, it does not surprise me that the Disney parks have done very little aside from selling merchandise in terms of celebrating their own 100th anniversary as a whole since WDW’s 50th, a whole 18 month celebration, was treated very similarly.

Funnily enough in the band I play in one random person realised it’s Disney’s 100th and we play Disney medley II. Nobody else had realised that (that was last summer), including me that usually loosely follows that stuff. First sign I saw was the 100 on the Disney+ application.

That's the issue. Iger would never want people like him making things better. I say Disney needs to be investigated by the SEC. No matter how bad things are going, their stock remains stronger than ever. It makes no sense at all. The SEC needs to follow the money and audit Iger to the last penny. I would have dumped ALL my Disney stock if I had any to begin with. My advisor has never recommended it. That says something about their shady-as-hell management.

One big problem I have with the current state of not just Disney Parks, but most Theme Parks in general outside of economical reasons is how a lot of attractions and themed areas are very 'in your face', not giving you time for a breather. The older Themed Attractions or areas still have great theming, but it felt appropriate and more natural, properly immersing you.
They felt like they'd actually exist somewhere while modern rides and areas feel more like "Look at me, im a shiny new ride with groundbreaking technology",
"Over here guys, look at this cool stuff you can purchase!"
The older stuff felt like they'd take their time with a steady pace and in the rides narrative and theming whilst not being boring. Incredibly enjoyable yet charming.
Theres just no charm in theme parks anymore...
The less said about current Epcot, the better... they did the Wonders of Live Pavilaion and Journey into Imagination dirty. Epcot should've remained IP free personally. At least we still have Spaceship Earth.

@@YourFeelingsSucksI Hear Asterix is a very good park. The theming does look very goofy and whimsical, in a good way! Might give it a go if I can in the future.
Back onto Disney, the new video they released of The Adventureland Treehouse completely exceeded my expectations. I did comment on the video so you'll probably find it, but in short I believe this looks like their best attraction they've made ever since Expedition Everest. It has something all of their new areas and rides (no matter how advanced) don't have, Charm and it not being in your face.
I've always believed Theming needs that charm to it to fully work. You don't need revolutionary technology or an IP to make a good ride. Sometimes it's the more simpler and unique things that leave better impressions on you. I hope to see more projects like the Adventureland Treehouse in the near future!

I'm glad you're bringing this up, because this is probably what's going to sink the company. As bad as some of their movies have been, until fairly recently they could always use the parks to bankroll more. I swear it's like Iger and his people legitimately hate the company they run; they hate, or least cannot comprehend, Walt's ideas for making clean, safe, attractive theme parks for people of all walks of life, but especially families.
Current Disney hates the middle class, they don't care about average people, especially people trying to budget for a vacation. And they're too greedy to realize that the rich whales they're going for don't even need Disney (or at least not the American parks anyway, they'll go on the cruises or to Tokyo or Paris).

I hated quite a bit on our Disney world vacation. It was too stressful with my spouse and 3 children. About 20% of our trip was the magic we expected. 80% was stressing about making reservations we made 2 months in advance, burning up under the 100 + temps, dealing with moody children, worrying about astronomical prices on the smallest thing, and the crap of genie +.

This was a similar experience with my family, which happened a few days ago at the time of this comment. We went to Disney-world. I’m the oldest of three, so a family of five. (Two parks Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios) And I wish I had as much fun as I did when I was younger (I think I was 7 first time I went, we went to Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom) Going my second time as a family of five. (Tho I would like to mention my brother was free last time, and my Grandparents were present with us, but my parents paid for their own tickets/experience and ofc their children’s. ) I thought it’s because I’m older and can notice more when my parents are stressed and are not enjoying themselves. It seems that part of it is the parks and their raised prices, plus the rides kept breaking down, we were able to ride most of the rides we wanted too, but it was very stressful waiting for them. We went on the Tron Ride at Magic Kingdom but we had to wait until 4:55pm to ride it because of the virtual queue, and an extra 30 in the line, but ended up waiting 48-50 more because we had to wait in line until they fixed the ride. It was more stressful and harder to enjoy. My dad legit said going to Disney is probably one of his worst nightmares now, and he was someone who grew up going to Disneyland a lot since he lived around their. So it’s sad to see everything with Disney going downhill, especially since I had a better time when I was 7 than now. I do hope that I will get to go to Disneyland at least once (preferably around October-December to experience The Nightmare before Christmas Haunted Mansion Transformation because it’s my childhood dream) and go back to Disney-world at least one more time to go to Epcot.

The fact that Tokyo's new Space Mountain is more Epcot than Cosmic Rewind... just shows the huge difference between management between the American and Japanese parks. We still have free fastpass (though it's called 40th anniversary pass), Splash Mountain, and classic vintage dark rides that have never been touched or updated (unlike the American counterparts). Also, the merch problem is the exact opposite in Tokyo. There's just a few shops and you can pretty much just buy most of the merch sold in them from the shop right outside the park (except for some exclusive items). The newer additions seem really promising too. Fantasy Springs and the Space Mountain rebuild look amazing so far (except that new hotel; looks pretty eh so far)

But luckily when my grandparents were still alive they paid for us to go to Disneyland back in 2009 and I am so grateful for that experience. It was really wonderful and magical for little 9 year old me, and those memories are definitely some of my fondest. I always think how lucky I am that I got to go to the parks back when I did because ever since the things I hear about it just get worse and worse. I used to think I wanted to take my husband and kid to Disney someday because of how fun I remember it being, but I couldn’t afford it even in my wildest dreams. I went to Disneyland this November and I agree with all you said, but would excuse the Runaway Railway. Hearing about how "virtual" it was at first definately put me off and I didn't expect anything classic or goood, but I was suprised. Yes, there were quite a few screens, but also animatronics that moved eerily well, props made to look drawn for a cartoon, and a good mix between the older dark rides and newer effects.

I have been going to both Disneyland and Disney World since 2003 with friends and family almost every year, and while I miss chasing paper fast passes, Genie+ turned me into a Disney park superhuman. It cost a bit extra, but allowed us to be incredibly efficient. I can see why passholders who go regularly hate it, but for us who only go once a year, that extra expenditure allows us to do everything. Big improvement over the non-existent pre-trip fast pass reservations. However, I am disappointed in the direction of adding cheap lands/rides and throwing IP everywhere instead of new, park-exclusive experiences.

@@lainiwakura1776 I don't disagree with you! There are videos that I've watched that provide data that fast passes in general make waits increase overall, and without them, there wouldn't be massive lines (see Universal's system). However, the previous Disney Fast Pass system was book 90 days in advance if you're staying on property or 60 days if not, which basically bullies you to staying on property because any decent Fast Pass is gone by the time the 60-day window opens, which means you basically get either no passes or worthless ones. My statement is that I'd rather pay up a bit for my once a year trip to be able to make sure we can do what we want and have a great day, and the Genie+ system gets so much hate but does allow us to do so.

Their issues aren't financial. It's morals, Judeo-Christian traditional "nuclear" family values. You can create good experiences if you're nor moral. It's why all their shows and movies are terrible. But it's not even because they can't, it's because they refuse to promote the morals. You can't write a good character or story, if you don't have any moral character yourself. Plus the higher prices keep out the "riff-raff" as they see it.

Honestly, I kind of agree. As much as I love Disney it seems like they are raising prices but given nothing to show for it. Also, most people like to be in the moment like a date with a lover, nobody wants the other person to look at the phone while on a date. Also, I honestly get why people get stressed out and it seems like Disney nowadays are encouraging stress instead of being a stress reliever. A vacation to a Disney park isn’t supposed to be stressful it has to be stress free. Honestly, I could also say the same thing about the Disney owned movies or shows. Usually Disney owned products make good entertaining stories and now they make a cheep unrealistic remake of a classic, products that are more about the cover then the actual story, or a story about a powerful woman and a weak sad pathetic man for just because. Anyways, yeah as much as I love Disney, I think it could be more in the moment with the family then looking at the phone with a lot of stressful reminders about the life and bookings. And for the movies and shows it could be better if they focus more on creating an entertaining story to share then actually doing what they are doing recently.

Funny Disney parks observation. Most rides that are added are replacements (so t hey don't add capacity). Even worst most have very low throughput like 7 Dwarfs or Tron. Of course there is no value in high capacity rides for Disney as the only reasons these rides are there are for selling upcharged front in line tickets. In other words, Disney doesn't give a crap about the customer experience. Telling Disney what they are doing wrong doesn't help because they don't see that in their income. Looking at that they are doing fine as people will still come and over pay for mediocre and bad experiences. They only thing they react on is when their parks lose money, then they have to rethink their strategie. Until then, if you still go and pay Disney, you've lost the right to complain as you are the main problem.
