That happened to me but the chuck hit me square in the chest. I was lucky that it hit me sideways. If it had be the drill bit or MT end it could have been a ride in an ambulance.

Also do remember to pull out the drill a bit more often to clear waste.

I've had the exact same mishap, no damage or injuries other than a very slight scrape on a finger and a destroyed brad point drill bit
My HF lathe does the same thing. The tail stock slips all the time. Very frustrating.

Oh yeah - That could of been a real bad day. I almost had that happen to me as well, I always hold the chuck now.
