A 24 is indeed a classic. A lifetime ago, a newspaper photo editor considering me for an internship handed me a Nikon FM2, a 24 and a 105 and said "Come back in a couple hours. Let's see what you get." I left my existing gear and my precious portfolio there as collateral. I got the position!
I appreciate that you added segments with other people also saying what they like about the lens. It feels more genuine when several people share the same view compared to one person babbling about it
I got this lens in November for videos and travel. Focal is perfect for general videos, I love the aperture ring too. And it’s very light compared to 24-70. I’m also gonna use this for Astro - I sold my Rokinon for this. It’s my main lens now.
To be honest I stumbelled upon this video by accident. Showed up in my recomended vids. And this guy seems just so noice. Good sence of humor, good quality, good trustworthyness. All around a pretty cool guy I would say eh ;D
For video guys on a budget, the sigma 16mm 1.4 is a great alternative. It has a 24mm full frame equivalent focal length, and the depth of field you will get is around f2...all for about $450.
The problem with the Sigma lenses is that they don't autofocus properly. If you are using them for video, you can tell that there is a significant difference in hunting between Sigma lenses and Gmaster series. If you're going to focus shots by hand, they're great, but forget video. I have the Sigma 20, 1.4 art lens emount. It's unusable for video.
not the same lens. the 16mm 1.4 has been known to have great autofocus and i dont notice a difference between my sony lens. everyone says autofocus on 16mm has very little lag. not all lenses are the same.
I tried my first sigma lens at WPPI. Sigma loaned it out to a bunch of us. So disappointed. AF not on par and for some reason at aperture wide open the sharpness was terribly compromised (for stills). So bad that the pictures were unusable pictures, the sigma reps had no answer for this, at 2.8 the picture was sharp but anything lower the quality suffered badly. Strangely enuf canon and Nikon users weren’t having this issue. Go figure.
I own this lens for a couple of months now and already shot over 2500 photos and videos with it. I agree with everything Chris has said. Out of the ten lenses I own this is my favorite, I just love it! Keep up these great reviews, Chris!!
absolutely do more reviews. I love that you had a panel of guests as well. it's great to hear different viewpoints. I recently bought the Fujifilm X-T3 because it works for me. I'm primarily a landscape shooter, and I love their lenses, and the X-T3 is a phenomenal camera. I had considered the sony A7Riii, but felt that the fuji just kind of felt right for me, in other words, it was intuitive for me the way apple products are for some people. if i decide i need a bigger sensor, i may consider jumping up to the gfx-r, or see what the Leica, Panasonic, Sigma trinity produce in the next year. but i think the most important factor that never really gets considered, is as a photographer, you have to get the gear that works for your work flow, and is an extension of yourself. i think you have that with your sony kits. and i love watching your videos, for your enthusiasm, and the fun you bring to whatever your doing. keep up the good work man.
Totally with you Cody, the Sigma 24mm is such a great lens and really holds up to the Sony. I can’t justify the extra dolla for the Sony just for the weight issue.
Will you pick this one or the Batis 18? I like wide lens, and I am 70% on Batis side because it is 18mm but I want one prime lens for video, pictures, gimbal fitting, light and this is amazing... Really challenging choice...
Great video and review! I have had this lens for about a month now and it hasn't come off my camera yet. I never thought I'd be able to replace my 16-35 =)
I’m seriously thinking of getting this lens. I’m tired of mediocre photos from zoom lenses and kit lenses…Two things are important when buying lenses and paying big bucks - sharpness and bokeh.
This lens is back ordered everywhere. Trying to get my hands on it before i head to Iceland. Can you make a tutorial on shooting a time lapse with the A7iii?
Loved the review Chris! Just discovered your channel and since I am a Sony photographer and videographer myself I really enjoy your content! Would have loved to have seen more pictures from your trip to Arizona, though :) looking forward to seeing more videos. All the best from Germany!
Hi Chris, great content, very instructive as usual. About the AF, I guess it's very efficient, but compared with the 24-70 2.8, is it the same? better? what do you think ? Thanks for your videos, and happy new year !
I'm a Canon guy and this lens makes me envy =) Especially declicking aperture for video. BTW, folks, what's the deal with 205k subs? Chris deserves 502 already! C'mon, hit that button right now.
Hi, love your content. Im defintely going that route. A7iii coming tmrw and I think this will be my first lens. Going back and forth deciding if I should get the 16-35GM or this and I think the prime wins. I used the 16/30mm 1.4 sigmas a ton with the a6500.
Chris Hau, you have really Inspired me to try new things with my own Channel! Every video I load from now on is going to have this kind of gear filming!
I was considering this lens for my A7iii but ended up settling for the Sigma 24mm. If the Sony 24 is a bit pricey check out the Sigma. While I do notice a bit of light aberrations and the auto focus isnt quite as fast as the Sony it is well worth the $750.
Vigo Jansons I use 24 full frame for real estate video work. It’s wide enough for large luxury homes. If you are doing small homes or tight spaces you might want wider
great review Chris, thank you I just added it to my wish list... and yes! I liked this review, keep doing it... I only have a question, besides Instagram do you post or upload your photography in another place? like 500px or something like that? I would love to see your pictures on a high resolution... not just the awesome but little squares on IG...
sexy lens... kinda glad I'm not rocking full frame (a6500 shooter currently), cause this would definitely be on the to buy list. Oh, and as far as your first review, not bad...it helped to have the rest of the familiar camera guys on there, but I'd say this is more of a first look, then a review. Still enjoyed it though, and always appreciate your take on it, if not technical!
Not getting payed for the review but will they invite you next time, if you would say that it is not worth it ? I'm not saying it is not worth it, the footage is dope and speaks for its self. Might get the lence :) Really liking the fact that you had other people's opinions as well. Hope to see more of these in the future.
bought it just before Christmas to replace my sigma, a beast, but very pricey, the main problem is that it's sold 1499e in europe, so it like 1700$ ...
Please give me some of your thoughts - I want a small wide angle prime for hiking, traveling and occasional astro (only stills). Currently I have an option of a 24mm GM priced similarly to a new 20mm 1.8. Which one would you recommend? I do have sigmas 35 but it's just too big for the mountains
“I’m not being paid to say this”. Whole trip paid for and arranged by Sony

Anthony C I want to hear more about this story
You can’t go wrong with Jason Vong!
Wicked video Chris!!!! So great to hang with you man!
Sony really nailed it with this lens. Size/weight to performance is really incredible!
JesseDriftwood dude I love it so much.
So expensive though. I just bought it and I don’t know if i want to replace it with the signa 14-24 f/2.8. :/
0:10 THAT dolly zoom. BEAUTIFUL.
deeTow 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻 ehhh thanks homie. Might make it a zoomerang
I bought one and it has become my favorite lens and stays on my A7iii most of the time.
I appreciate that you added segments with other people also saying what they like about the lens. It feels more genuine when several people share the same view compared to one person babbling about it
Dope vlog! miss the gang!
Jason Vong miss the gang too!
my goal for 2019, is to meet all of you
Jason Vong yo when I saw you in this video I was immediately stoked!
It’s like a Disney crossover
Wait is Jason Vong in the Dope Squad??? P.S. APSC is dead! 😜
Its gotta be the 24mm!!!! Beauty of a lens.
You guessed it!
Give. Me. Dis. Lens. LOVE THIS VIDEO BOO!
We will buy one. :)
wedding present?
Really loved that you brought in other creators for their expertise and specific opinions. This was a super well-rounded review, A+

Crispy Wisp booom! That’s how I feel about it too.

kLLE BOLLMANNEN ehhhhh! Thanks so much. That actually means a lot.
There's no accident in youtube. Its the algorithm :D :D

Using Sony native lens is better.

I have this lens and love it for my A7RIII, A7III and A6500. Cheers and thanks to you all.
I own this one and the 50mm 1.4 zeiss, both are fantastic lenses and killer combo imo.
absolutely do more reviews. I love that you had a panel of guests as well. it's great to hear different viewpoints. I recently bought the Fujifilm X-T3 because it works for me. Dannngggg.... I almost went on this trip.... :P Solid review of the lens! I think for now I'm sticking with my Sigma 24
Totally with you Cody, the Sigma 24mm is such a great lens and really holds up to the Sony. I can’t justify the extra dolla for the Sony just for the weight issue.
THAT INTRO THOUGH. The colors... the music... the cuts... Well done!

Really challenging choice...
I have had this lens for a week. I love it! I am truly blessed.
I didn't realize how badass you were until 4:10 haha, nah but for real that was a dope review for your first ever one! :)
Nick Iby haha thanks homie.
Great video and review! I have had this lens for about a month now and it hasn't come off my camera yet. I never thought I'd be able to replace my 16-35 =)
This is bar far one of my favorite growing channels
Today I was actually thinking of buying this exact lense! You're such an inspiration for my channel. Keep it up Chris 😀
BOOM! Made this just for you.
Oh he is Stan Moniz.
I was watching your videos thinking that you are him, featured in Jason Wongs video.
This lens is on my Christmas wishlist. Also what’s up Jason! 🙌🏻 Dope video Chris!
David Lopez sameee. It’s gonna be hard to get one in Canada.
Chris Hau so far here in the US it’s on back order everywhere 😩. Hopefully I can get one in the coming months
some David foster Wallace vibes in that turtleneck. I own the lens and watched this just to feel even better about my purchase. it worked. nice video
I’m seriously thinking of getting this lens. I’m tired of mediocre photos from zoom lenses and kit lenses…Two things are important when buying lenses and paying big bucks - sharpness and bokeh.
This is a tough one for me, I really want it but not sure it is worth it over the Sony 28mm 2.0
I’m definitely going to buy this lens! thanks Chris! Keep it up!
dude - sameeee. Thanks so much for watching.
Everything you do, you do it well, so ... yes more reviews. Greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹
Great job, we have watched so many reviews on this and you nailed it. We are buying our first Sony (A7iii) today and will pair it with this glass. 🌟💥
Hows the pair up going?
@@CHAS-fw4qm it’s extremely good. I’ve gotten rid of glass since but this one is a forever lens
@@Ourglobetrotting niceee. I’ll be unboxing mine today😎stay safe!
@@CHAS-fw4qm hope you enjoy it. Let us know what you think
Dope vid dude, love your perspective
Good review Chris liked how it was very informative and had a few views not just yours, definitely one of the better review vlogs I have seen. 👍
Great video. Liked the review with other voices and perspectives. Fresh style I would watch. .
That lens is so crispy!! I just ordered it I’m pumped 💪🏾
I just picked this up over the weekend for an environmental portrait lens. Hopefully I can put it to use soon to see how it is
This lens is back ordered everywhere. Trying to get my hands on it before i head to Iceland. Can you make a tutorial on shooting a time lapse with the A7iii?

Great review. Love how you include so many photographers in the review. Enjoy the vlogs, keep the reviews coming.
Definitely keep doing this kind of videos! I really like your take on it :) Have a good one Chris
Thanks homie! OK DEAL - more coming.
I'm a Canon guy and this lens makes me envy =) Especially declicking aperture for video. BTW, folks, what's the deal with 205k subs? Chris deserves 502 already! C'mon, hit that button right now.
Paul - you are legit the nicest person.
Yes, we want more reviews videos! Nice review and I'm looking forward to buy this lens in the future.
When I go to full frame, this is gonna be my first and probably only lens! (at first)
Hi, love your content. Im defintely going that route. A7iii coming tmrw and I think this will be my first lens. Going back and forth deciding if I should get the 16-35GM or this and I think the prime wins. I used the 16/30mm 1.4 sigmas a ton with the a6500.
Thank for the video! This lens looks so amazing! I appreciated the other input form others that was added to this.
Man you are gonna love that lens. Keep cranking this awesome videos
This is insane how sharp and smooth the lens is handheld, even at low light. 😳
Chris Hau, you have really Inspired me to try new things with my own Channel! Every video I load from now on is going to have this kind of gear filming!
Awesome
That's really cool you guys get inspired by other good creators
I checked out your channel and you have potential. Can't wait to see what Chris inspired you to do!
Awesome color grading. Chris you have really impressed everyone with this stuff. Keep up the videos. Love the sony.
24mm Lense is dope! I love when people do good reviews on gear and helps the smaller guys know what to get...Sweet.
Really enjoyed the video, good to see other great RUclipsrs ! Forrrtography!
I was considering this lens for my A7iii but ended up settling for the Sigma 24mm. If the Sony 24 is a bit pricey check out the Sigma. While I do notice a bit of light aberrations and the auto focus isnt quite as fast as the Sony it is well worth the $750.
May be i will follow your path and go into Sigma 24mm in the future when I upgrade to full-frame (hopefully i can own that in one day)...
Really nice review!!!! Loved it, please do more of this..:) 😃😃😃
now I want dis lens 😍
Lucy Martin sameeeeeee
Contagious personality! Love it, great video Chris
Wouldn't 24 be too narrow for real estate? I want to get into it and so hard to figure out what to get. G Masters are definitely amazing.
Vigo Jansons I use 24 full frame for real estate video work. It’s wide enough for large luxury homes. If you are doing small homes or tight spaces you might want wider
my fav new lens.. got it during preordering in october.. game changer.. don't regret 1c
Definitely MORE reviews! I'm sure you have a ton of great insight that many will find useful.
Loved the intro! What is the music? Outro was also great. Liked the in-betweens but those 2 parts just stood out.
Just can’t seem to stop taking pics. It’s worth every dollar
if you had 1 lens to choose ( 24mm 1.4 GM vs sony 24-70mm 2.8gm) what would you choose ?
great review Chris, thank you I just added it to my wish list... and yes! I liked this review, keep doing it... I only have a question, besides Instagram do you post or upload your photography in another place? like 500px or something like that? Great video and review Chris!
man, I like the intro, and clicked LIKE immediately
what do you think of the 28mm f/2? but awesome review! Might consider that one next!
Opening sequence of b-roll is just 🔥
If you could buy one, would you get the "Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM" OR "Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM" ?
Great review!!
I like your style of review. Keep it coming.
Hmm... I normally dont shoot 1.4 for real estate though. BUT I will say I am picking this up for my gimbals work for the houses.
Love the lens. Bought it on release day and couldn't be happier.
This was like The Who's who of photography. Nicely done.
I like the color of your video, looks really cinematic
Great Review. Thanks
This is $2200 in Australia, hard to justify considering most people earn $600-800 per week.
Not getting payed for the review but will they invite you next time, if you would say that it is not worth it ? I'm not saying it is not worth it, the footage is dope and speaks for its self. Might get the lence :) Really liking the fact that you had other people's opinions as well. Hope to see more of these in the future.
bought it just before Christmas to replace my sigma, a beast, but very pricey, the main problem is that it's sold 1499e in europe, so it like 1700$ ...
would this be a better option in comparison to the 35 or 40?
Please give me some of your thoughts - I want a small wide angle prime for hiking, traveling and occasional astro (only stills). Currently I have an option of a 24mm GM priced similarly to a new 20mm 1.8. Which one would you recommend? I do have sigmas 35 but it's just too big for the mountains
How does it compare to the Sigma 24mm 1.4? its half the price ... is it half as good?
Loved this Sedona series from people I admire and follow on RUclips. Definitely going to try this lens soon. Thanks Chris!
Nice! Wish I would have know you were in my neck of the woods!!! Great video man
May have to change the order of lenses to buy and put this one on top. (Currently shooting with old crop-sensor lenses on the A7riii.)
Looks sooo good ❤❤
THAT ICELANDIC GUY. Right???? I want it nowwww
Great review video man! 🤙🏽 like that it wasn’t just your opinion.
john hendrick yeah - diverse opinion I thought would be good :)
Super review. Congrats from the French riviera !
Sounds awesome I so want one 🤗 Thanks for the video.
The intro was sick!! 🔥🔥🔥
hello mate awesome video, may I know which gamma profile are you using?
Nah!!! King of Astro is the Laowa 15mm Zero D 👌🏻👌🏻 great video though!
Dude I love the g master series I can’t wait to release my next video the Sony fs5 mxf files are a learning curve!!!
90s Darkroom beast!!!
Loved the review
Nice music selection and great video 😎
*Gets invited by Sony*
*Gives extremely positive review and gets others to do the same*
Surprise, surprise. 😂
When were you in Sadona?! Damn, that's 45 min from my house!
Wow nice. What picture profile are you using?
