    I was stationed in San Antonio for my basic training in the Air Force & we got tickets to go see the Spurs play the Celtics. Using the opportunity to call home on the pay phone & not realizing I was in the tunnel to the Celtics locker room, Larry Bird & the rest of the team walked by within a few feet of me! I froze in awe, the man was a giant compared to my 5' 5". After they were gone I whispered to my Mom, I just saw Larry Bird! It was an honor to get to see him play in person.

    I haven't watched any other NBA player that was more dedicated to the game than Bird. He took his job serious and imporoved every year. He supported his team mates and played as a team member. He wasn't flashy at all. He was just damn good.

    Bird was a testimony to why the whole "size" and "athleticism" argument for best ever doesn't matter. It's all about their impact on the game. Bird was a game changer and should be listed as one of the best of all time and one of the greatest SF ever.

      😂😂 Ehh you do realize Bird was a legit 6'9"-9.5" right? Even now after decades of spinal compression & slouching he's still taller than Dwight Howard.

      @@johnhenry2903 do some research on the average NBA player height when weighed by playing time. The average NBA starter and rotational players have gotten smaller while the bench players have increased in size.
      Also Bird was about 30 pounds less than LBJ. He also faced larger inside players than LBJ faces.

    Bird was a joy to watch. He almost knew where ball was going on rebounds. Impeccable shooting ability. Bird was one of the best to play the game. And I wasn’t a big Celtics fan but, still fun to watch teams try to stop him.

    When you can tell opponents exactly what you are going to do and then do, 100% proves he is athletic.
    It totally eliminates any and ALL arguments about him being unathletic. Case closed.
