- South Williamsburg has the largest Orthodox Jewish community in the United States. On Sunday 17 October 2021, I walked through the Hasidic Jewish community living in South Williamsburg, New York City. It was a sunny morning and full of people walking outdoors, Jewish Orthodox men and women with their children. South Williamsburg has the largest Orthodox Jewish community in the United States.

I have walked through this neighborhood once, and everyone knew I wasn't from there. I was treated well and felt safe while visiting, unlike the rest of NYC. Much respect to anyone who can dedicate themselves to their religion.

There are three Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods in Brooklyn: Williamsburg, Crown Heights, and Borough Park, which is the largest one, not Williamsburg.

It looks like a very dirty neighbourhood. Why don't people take pride in their area and clean it up?
"Cleanliness is next to Godliness". Are you familiar with that old adage? People should take more pride in where they live and organise to clean it up themselves: shock, horror!!! Btw, yep, we clean up the area we live in on a fairly regular basic; it's good for the environment and encourages community spirit. Try it sometime. Being rich/poor has nothing to do with being clean. The moral of the lesson is: don't live in shit!
@@ike4282 Go check out a place like Union City NJ, a predominantly Cuban neighborhood. You won't see a speck of paper anywhere on the ground. Taking pride in one's neighborhood has nothing to do with income or time I don't think. I have no idea if ethnicity has anything to do with anything TBH but I was impressed with the neighborhood I mentioned --

They spend all day praying and making more Orthodox Jews. No time for anything else. I had to move one of their Vans the other day, you cannot believe the amount of garbage that was in there ! I almost threw up.

It's NYC. Every neighborhood in NYC has that much garbage on the ground. Actually Manhattan has way more garbage on the ground then Williamsburg does.

1. It's NYC. There is trash everywhere. 2. It is trash day (as you can see by the bags)--and the sanitation workers are NOT the best about getting all the trash which means that animals end up digging in it.

Is recommended live in Williamsburg ?
Are they like orthodox or ultra orthodox or the same thing? Or something else?
They are Hasidic Jews, and their beliefs, customs , life style are very different from the mainstream Jewish faith of Orthodox, Conservative and Reformed Judaism . There are several branches of Hasidic Judaism , Hasidic are a small percentage of the Jewish Faith

@@ChicoTheMan69 no they are not denominations. Just different Hasidic dynasties. Each Hasidic dynasty is led by a "Rebbe" who is the spiritual leader of the community. The position is passed from father to son. And each Hasidic group is named after the town which they originated in. For instance the Hasidic group Satmar are named after the town of Satmar in Romania where the group originated. They are just different communities. A Satmar would not claim that a Skver is going to hell. Even Hasidic Judaism is not a denonimation but a stream of Judaism. Hasidic Jews do not claim that non Hasidic Jews go to hell nor do they try and make everyone a Hasidic Jew

Been living around this community for a long time but I don't understand why so many school buses are needed when this community is only a 20 block radius. A traffic nightmare!!!

@@barhat961 1 they don't bitch about how hard the economy is, probably save every penny and waste none finally strong family, meaning the kids take care of one another, the teenagers already work or care of the younger ones, and every generation lives close by so that grandparents take care of the kids removing the burden of daycare, often education food etc and free the parents to do work
The neighborhood is the best they keep it up. This is the way people should live today.
Also day are religious. If we could follow them the world would be great ❤

What an interesting insight into the Jewish community in New York. I really enjoyed the Netflix show called Unorthodox - Williamsburg is exactly how I imagined to be. Great video

I actually went through a town in New York with a bunch of jews and it was so lovely to see. Alot of people were out and they had the jew curls. Also I like how a bunch of kids were playing on the street with no supervision I mean there was this one 3 year old in a little tikes car but apparently the jews are like if something happens to them its gods plan

The men all dress alike, but it seems that men in general like to wear uniforms of one kind or another. The women look like they have more freedom in how to dress, but the vast majority of them choose black skirts or dresses and low-heeled black shoes. The only variety is their blouses.

Ich kenne keinen einzigen Juden, habe auch nie einen gesehn. Schon garnicht mit diesen Anzügen. Mir ist aufgefallen dass Männer meistens alleine laufen und in schnellen Bewegungen als ob die alle Termine hätten. Die Frauen laufen fast alle mit Kinder und Kinderwagen, dabei sehen die meisten Frauen mit Kinderwagen selber minderjährig aus. Mir kommt es so vor als ob es eine Mission ist Juden durch häufiger Geburten zu vermehren. Was mir noch aufgefallen ist, dass die Frauen zum größten Teils schwarz anziehen.
Ich war in viele Orten in Europa Asien, aber soviele Kinderwagen auf Straße sehe ich zum ersten mal hier auf diesem Video.
Ich weiß nicht für was die stehen aber ich bin für free Palästina.
Ich hab solche Juden in Antwerpen in Belgien gesehen. Die Stadt hat auch einer der größten jüdisch-orthodoxen Gemeinden Europas, es wird auch Jerusalem des Nordens genannt. Die sind allesamt antizionistisch, die lehnen den Staat Israel ab.

Actually there are people to pick up garbage from the streets. NYC is a big place. So many families in such a small place. If you have never lived in NYC then you will have know idea. And if you are so concerned why don't you go to NYC and collect the trash yourself? I'm sure they would be glad to have your service. Actually Williamsburg has less garbage then Manhattan does. I've been to NYC my whole life and I know. There are rules and regulations regarding garbage pick up etc. Maybe research before leaving unsolicited "advice" for new yorkers.
Also there are a lot of kids there and kids will be kids. But actually in the schools they do teach the kids to throw there trash in the garbage and keep things clean and neat is very important. It's actually required to do that. Next time before making an accusation of something you know nothing about keep your comments to yourself. Maybe clean your own property up before worrying about others.

I find all extremes of any religion wrong. It causes problems of integration and acceptance. Here in the uk I am finding it difficult to accept the Muslim ideology. It is incumbent on all citizens to integrate.while we tolerate all faiths some are too separate. They should strive to belong to the host country, without question. Some Israelis would like to live in the United States but it is not so easy. After 9/11, the US Immigration Service became much stricter and they started to deport Israelis living in the United States illegally. There used to be many Israelis that would come to sell cosmetics from the Dead Sea in the malls but not anymore. If you are poor and uneducated it is not so easy to stay in the United States legally. Some Israelis try to overstay tourist or student visa but INS catches them. A lot of Israelis only live in Israel because their grandparents got kicked out of their homes during the Holocaust or were expelled from Islamic countries. They would go somewhere else if they had a place to go. Israel is small, crowded, filled with problems and very expensive. Tel Aviv and Jerusalem are some of the most expensive places to live. With all the current political problems even more want to leave. Israel is the only country that speaks Hebrew. If you only speak Hebrew, it is much more difficult to go to another county.
