That fridge is awesome! Love all the extra features and for the price that is a great deal. If my ARB ever bites the dust I would definitely consider one of these. Thanks for the video!
When I saw your wall-0-fridge Dometic I thought.. BIG! The Iceco has the dan foss compressor, 800 bucks in Canada. Having a 2 door, I went for a slightly smaller 24x13x17.5 Rough Country with an LG compressor. As to performance, I'll soon find out. The cig plug-in is a problem on many fridges. My RC stores nicely between the seat and rear bar on the driver's side atop a 13" storage platform that's level with my pass seat when it's folded flat, makes into a nice long bed. Everythings a trade off. After many adjustments, I'm still tweaking smaller yet. 👍
That's a neat fridge. I like the way the lid can be opened from either side.i could see using it on the trips I make from Texas to Oklahoma to keep things cold. I'm going to look into them.
Yeah the kids is what really got me and I like the sleek black design. I always tell people I’ll never mess with ice again. I love having a 12V cooler. I consider having one an essential piece of gear now.
Great video and thank you for sharing the ARB threaded socket mount and ARB Power Cord . The ARB threaded socket & ARB Power Cord would have come in handy on my last trip. The connection kept coming loose on my Jackery.
thank you for your review!!! i got the same fridge and the lid is what was the main selling point for me as well. I also wish they had a smaller one, but this will work just fine!!
Wants and needs are definitely subjective, but I do think the side opening design is best for inside of a vehicle, at least for my needs 🤷♂️ yeah you definitely can’t beat the price compared to others lol
If you plug in the AC and DC ports which will it prioritize? Will it swap over if 1 source dies? Also if you use both DC ports for 2 batteries will it auto swap if one of the batteries dies
Lol yeah I’ve driven through Kramer Junction countless times and my name is Nathan Kramer. Someone suggested it when I was starting all of this and it has stuck
I purchased this fridge myself (vl 60 pro s, I also purchased the Dometic cfx 3 45, about a month apart, I tried freezing three bottles of water in each fridge, the Dometic got down to temperature twice as fast, the water was frozen in about 3 hours, and the iceco took over 24 hours before the water was frozen solid.
I’m thinking maybe the larger volume of the 60 was able to cool as fast? Either way, it’s like I always tell people, if you put them side by side, the Dometic visually looks like a higher quality product and I think a big thing is the Dometic may be better insulated, specifically the lid. I haven’t cut either open to compare, that’s just my guess. I still prefer the side opening lid design of the ICECO over the Dometic. I was under no obligation to continue using the ICECO, all they asked for was a video and the only reason I did the video was because I wanted it when I saw it. I sold my Dometic which I paid for myself and the ICECO is still in the back of my jeep. I have had pretty good luck with the ICECO keeping things cold, the 45 gets down to temp fairly quickly. I haven’t done any testing but I’m pretty sure the ICECO uses more power than the Dometic, also.
Yes the DC power inlet is identical across ARB, Dometic, ICECO and many more. The threaded style plug is superior to the cheaper plug in style supplied by ICECO. There are links in the description for everything you would need 👍🏻
@@KramerJunction I won't be using the threaded one just the regular DC one just wanted to check it works.. thanks for posting this!! I definitely need to get it because that one is crap...lol
I don’t have it wired to my starter battery. I have a Battle Born Batteries 100ah lithium house battery which powers it. With no power coming in and the compressor cycling on and off to maintain 34° F, it can last about 5 days. I don’t know if that helps any, but that’s the only experience I can speak of 🤷♂️
I haven’t noticed any build up of condensation on the interior of the fridge. I usually keep it set to 36° and don’t really carry a lot of moist unwrapped type foods so maybe that’s why 🤷♂️
I have to ask, have you done any testing with temps on your fridge? Because I just got mine and tested inside my place, temp is way off, had it set at 34 and it was reading 40 or 42 on thermometer. And it's not the thermometer, I tested it in my home fridge.
Everything has stayed cold, so I haven’t thought to. You have me wondering now though lol I might pick up a fridge thermometer and check this out. Thank you for bringing this up!
@@KramerJunction I always have bad luck..lol 😔 someone I know has one and his didn't have that issue. Now I need to figure out what I'm going to do, because I already discarded the box, didn't expect to have any issues. I think you probably would have felt it didn't feel cold enough.
@@darriusholt yes, thankfully I was able to speak with customer support and they helped me to calibrate the fridge.. it's been working great, thank you! Now I get to love it!!! Brought it on my first camping trip this weekend
I am 100% with you! My ideal fridge is probably about 30L, but with a side opening lid. Don’t get me wrong, I can easily fit a weeks worth of food in my 45, but I never do lol It’s often 2 gallons of water, just because I have extra space and a couple days worth of meals. A 45 honestly isn’t much heavier than a 30-35 would be as most of the weight is the compressor unit. Every pound does count though
@@KramerJunction . That's good feedback. I just looked through their website and the JP 30 is currently out of stock which means the next smaller size is the JP 40. The size difference compared to the VL45 Pro is rather negligible to me. I'm in a unique living situation that requires I get one of these coolers to get by for a year which would save me thousands compared to eating out daily. The longer I wait the more money I waste eating out. I'm going to see if there is a sale over this 4th of July weekend and make a decision then. More than likely I'll pull the trigger on the VL45Pro and enjoy the extra space. Thanks again!!
You guys who get the fridge free all say the same thing, I really like to see reviews from people who are not obligated to give favorable reviews of products that have been given to them free of charge.
Lol I was under no obligation to give the fridge a good review. They asked me if I wanted it and I liked the design, so I said yes. The ICECO is my third fridge, the first two being Dometic. I am under no obligation to continue using the fridge, but I still do, even though I had an 8 month old Dometic CFX3 45 already in the back of my jeep. Spend over 100 nights a year, living in the back of your Jeep, and you will quickly see why I prefer the side opening lid. Many have the same criticism. I am very open that Dometic makes a higher quality product, but they don’t have a model that suites my needs. Now, however many months later, I’m still using the ICECO…because I like it. I sold the Dometic to my friend, Ray, and he’s super pleased with it. If someone like Dometic or arb made a 35 or 45 liter fridge, or something in that range, with a side opening lid. I’d strongly consider switching to that, but for now I’m going to stick with the best product for my needs. Also, the ICECO has performed flawlessly for me since I started using it. If you think my good review is skewed, because I’m so pleased with it, it’s because I did research on the product before I received it. I get people emailing me trying to send me stuff almost on the daily. I would not take good from someone, knowing I’m going to have to talk bad about it. I’ll leave that to someone else.
Yeah, side by side, Dometic is visibly a nicer product and I’m pretty sure the Dometic stayed colder with less watt draw, but I still prefer the design of the ICECO and you really can’t beat the price. I’m under no obligation to continue using the ICECO. I had both the VL45PROS and the CFX3 45, I chose the ICECO because it works better for my setup and does just as good.
Why would you call an ICECO "budget"????? They cost way more than double the actual budget fridges. I'm sure they're nice and all, but they're also nearly $700 more than the competition around here, so there's no way I can justify it!
@@KramerJunction On Amazon here the Iceco and ARB are very similarly priced in the 1100-1500 range (Canadian prices) whereas the budget fridges are in the 500-700 range
A 12v fridge that retails for 700 bucks and he calls it a "budget fridge". Are overlanders just people with too much money than they know what to do with?
Was hoping for more than a cosmetic review. Like performance, power, durability, limits. Also... not sure this qualifies as "unbiased" since the fridge was free. Not the worst video, but not worth the time either.
It’s very nice I’m still loving it lol. They use the exact same compressors as Dometic. As sad as it is, it’s basically impossible to find ANY fridge which is even assembled in America, let alone American made

If it’s anything like my old house refrigerator, it probably has a lot to do with keeping the door open to long in humid rooms .
There was a known issue that ICECO said they addressed. They upgraded the top seal to prevent moisture in that area. People still report this problem.
