I don't really cover real estate info in this one, much better RUclips channels for that. Just some general info about the major towns/cities surrounding Calgary and a few opinions. Hope this helps if you're thinking of moving to the Calgary area and wanted a couple ideas. Which of Calgary's surrounding towns is your favorite?
Cochrane, FTW! Mostly for McKay's and the views of the Rocky Mountains but also its close proximity to Crowfoot in Calgary for shopping, dining, entertainment and transit connections...
I live in South Calgary and Okotoks is fantastic for shopping or taking in an Okotoks Dawgs baseball game in the summer. It's also faster to get there than anywhere in North Calgary and without the traffic
@@stickynorth If I was moving to Calgary but didn't want to live in the city, I'd move to Cochrane !! Best of the surrounding towns by far a closer to the mountains ! #2 would be Okotoks, #3 would be Chestermere.
Hey bro great video! I'm a welder in Airdrie. It's a pretty chill city. Flavours of Montreal is my go to hang over spot. 😂 When I first moved here from Winnipeg, the condo I live in got locked down and the RCMP used tons of tear gas to try and a remove a man barricaded in his RV parked outside my place. I could hardly breathe. Aside from that it's chill tho 😅
I appreciate it, thanks for watching! Flavours of Montreal is great, fantastic sandwiches. Reminds me of a place we used to have in Edmonton called Wolfie's, they also imported meat in from Montreal. And that sounds wild, but I live in Edmonton - not exactly the city of brotherly love lol. Cheers dude
I am a big fan of Okotoks and Cochrane as well. As a kid we'd make occasional day trips to Okotoks at some park/camp-ish like area. Google maps has me thinking it was Okotoks Lions Campground, kinda in the center of the town. Some good memories of the early 80s
Definitely a Cochrane fan... The views, the ice cream, the close proximity to NW Calgary... Win/Win/Win... I also like Chestermere but it's really bland and overhyped in comparison... Cool lake though...
Excellent, informative video, thanks much. My Mom's two younger sisters moved to Alberta in the early 1980's, due to their husbands being involved with the oil industry. One has settled in High River, the other in Okotoks. I chuckle whenever they come "home" to Ontario to visit. They always complain that they can't handle the humidity anymore. One day, I'd like to get out there to visit.
Thanks for watching, glad you got some value out of this one - definitely a lot drier in Alberta, I think the humidity out east would get to me in the summer and I've heard it can be brutal in the cities. Cheers mate!
I've lived on Vancouver Island now for 10 years (in smaller cities), but before that I lived in Airdrie and was born and raised in Calgary. Thanks for making this video, I've spent time in all of these places. Have friends in all of these places, too, except for High River, where I used to have some family. The floods just over a decade ago were brutal and I remember going to help with clean-up in High River.
Thanks for watching, glad you got some value out of the video - those flood were pretty insane, I live in Edmonton and we escaped unharmed. Cheers mate
@@matthewsmith908 thats true...to my surprise, by land area, its larger than Toronto, but since I live in the NW, it was relatively empty back in 2017 compared to what it is now. So we thought Calgary was a small city.
@@strangenorth I honestly loved it! I lived right down the street from the annual car show and all the parades would go right in front of my house too! My birds had become famous in town as I would walk around with a macaw on the shoulder. I really hate the fact I had to leave.
I'm told De Winton is a decent place to live, though I have not been there personally. A long-time friend's parent live (or lived) there. I also like Bragg Creek; its been a long time since I was last there, but I only have good memories of the area. And then there is Balzac, home to several very large malls (CrossIron Mills being the 'good' one) and an Amazon warehouse/sorting center. That might count as a negative for some/most
Another great thing about Okotoks is Seaman Stadium, home of the Okotoks Dawgs of the Western Canadian Baseball League. The stadium opened in 2007 and is home to a summer collegiate baseball where college players continue to pursue their dreams of making it to Major League Baseball. The Dawgs average 5000 fans per game and the atmosphere is awesome.
Oh I hope you do one for towns around Lethbridge lol. I grew up in Raymond and most people that live there commute to Lethbridge for work or school. Some new people complain of being shunned there because they aren't Mormon, and it can be somewhat true. All they had to do is ignore those that shun. I'm not Mormon and I guess I just don't notice the shunning anymore lol I live in Lethbridge now anyways due to convenience. I also lived in Strathmore for 10 years, great town. The poker runs are fun. It's actually a nice place to live.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - I plan on covering more surrounding communities in future videos. I actually really like Lethbridge. Cheers mate
The reason Chestermere doesn’t have lots of shopping and dining options is that it’s too close to Calgary to have separate options. It’s the only city that shares border with Calgary.
Thanks for watching - yeah crazy it's actually the 5th biggest city in Alberta. I'm actually going to be doing a video on Drumheller later this summer and I want to cover more small towns down the road. Cheers
My children grew up in Carstairs, their parents worked in Calgary and in Carstairs. I'm glad you refer to "incorporation" (define boundaries), when did many municipalities become corporations? Why? I remember in school being made conscious of using "and" too often.
True story about Chestemere, if you’re looking for a hardware store…… you’re out of luck. You’re going on a road trip to Forest Lawn in South East Calgary.
Thanks for watching - definitely not the best store selection but it's a nice town overall. That beach area looks like a decent spot to hang out in the summer too. Cheers
there are 17 communities at a higher elevation than Airdrie, but its the highest one with a population over 30k people. I suppose it depends on how one is defining 'city' - I often seen 10,000 as a 'standard'. Cochrane has a population of 25k, so... make of that as you will.
High River has one of if not the largest outdoor shows in western Canada. The last time I was in it, there were 1400 cars! Strathmore is an unlivable cesspool, it's a drug hub and has really unsavory residents. I lived there for just under 2 years and you couldn't pay me to live there again!
I found Calgary great but High River like Calgary were both terrible to live in if you were indigenous. The people were nasty to indigenous people and took part in the 60's scoop. I would avoid these towns like the plague.

I miss the towns mentioned. I used to live in Calgary but was always chilling in the smaller towns, especially in the south.

Okotoks best one of the bunch
It's one of my favorite in terms of Calgary's surrounding towns, Cochrane too. Cheers

We moved to Calgary back in 2017 from Toronto and for us back then, Calgary was a small city... But now not anymore :)
Thanks for watching - it's definitely been growing rapidly, Edmonton too! Cheers mate
Calgary was definitely not a small city in 2017, it probably just looked comparatively smaller than Toronto.

Strathmorian....
Strathmorite...
Strathmoron.😅

Definitely a bunch of smaller towns I didn't include, and Diamond Valley is a great area! Cheers

Thanks for watching - fair point, it's a pleasant town with great access to Calgary. Cheers
Airdrie gang
Thanks for watching!
It's hard to believe that airdrie is a city of 85,000 people. They're definitely outside the metro area but I like Vulcan and Drum.
Thanks for watching - yeah crazy it's actually the 5th biggest city in Alberta. I'm actually going to be doing a video on Drumheller later this summer and I want to cover more small towns down the road. Cheers

Please do Red Deer 🦌
Thanks for watching - that's not a bad idea for a video down the road. Cheers

McKay's Ice Cream 🥰🥺

Yeah I just read that about Airdrie but there are definitely decent sized towns above that elevation. Cheers
I’ve lived in cochrane for 10+ years! It’s growing too fast imo but it still is a great place to live

Langdon should be on the list.

I'm guessing he had issues with monetization but the rumor mill is going hard on his absence
