    How fun! This is my first time visiting your channel and what a fun experiment. That PVC pipe seems like a brilliant idea.

    You know how refreshing it is to see a mans man making garden videos? Well. Here's my sub. And my respect. You were clear, direct, and uncut. I liked that you didn't have your kids running around "helping", I like that you didn't have this new trend of fast forwarding a time-lapse. Excellent.

      Thank you... I did a video last month that took me a month to film... but I didn't do a traditional time laspe... just did little updates while the experiments were doing stuff.
      I do have videos with my youngest, but she's a part of the video, not background.
      Thank you for joining this journey, I truly appreciate you. 💯🤗👍

      @@DownHomeBackyardGardening don't get me wrong here. I'm not saying I don't enjoy families participating. I just don't enjoy watching an instruction video when the actual instruction is paused so a toddler can "dig the hole, or drill". It's cute ya but that makes a 2 minute video 15 minutes. You get me?

    Dude, this is awesome! Just got the same seeds from Baker Creek yesterday and we are 2 1/2 months before our last frost date, but we had a warm up for two weeks in the 40s & 50s. I can’t wait to get out in the garden! I’ve seen this trick done with old concrete culverts stood on end to plant parsnips in. The end product was 30-40 inches long and no nubs.

    Hi. Nice to see someone trying to grow something a bit different.
    I thought you may have wanted to space your pipes a bit further apart or at least staggered them. Carrot leaves are your provider of sunlight conversion and need a bit of room.
    The other thing is I would have used a larger circumference pipe personally. Is there a video how to grow these from Japan and how they grow them?. Anyway good luck with your trials. Cheers.

    • @DownHomeBackyardGardening
      @DownHomeBackyardGardening  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for those thoughts, I might spread them out once they really start to take off. And yes, I spent probably 10 minutes at the store trying to decide if I should get the wider pipes or not... the cost difference is what made me go with these tubes this time... but if these take off, I'll probably get wider tubes that are longer, to really allow the carrots to take off. 🤞🤞🥶

      After watching your video I went to ytube and did a search for the same type you are growing. Perhaps you might learn a bit more there. Just type in the name of the carrot. Good luck.

    i wonder if you got a strong plastic sheet that you could roll up tired up and away where you can untie it as it starts to expand and allow the tube to expand as well the way you're doing it i be afraid that it wouldn't have the room to grow because the soil would have nowhere to go some sort of plastic hard walled sheet rolled up with a nylon stretchy bands in my mind i got like a crazy carpet rolls up with stretchy bands around it allowing you to get a super carrot

    Oooh I have access to that same garden soil and I’ve been wondering if I can use it to fill a 4x8 raised bed? Would you recommend doing half that soil and half their compost ? Or just this soil?

    • @DownHomeBackyardGardening

      @daniurka16 I use their Tree & Scrub mix (it's a Veggie mix). Or, you can use their mix soil (you'll just have to add fertilzer). The compost I use as a mulch for top dressing / amending the beds.
