How fun! This is my first time visiting your channel and what a fun experiment. That PVC pipe seems like a brilliant idea.
Thank you for checking out the channel... I hope this works, I couldn't think of any other way to plant them at the time... but since planting, I've thought of other ways🤣🤣🤣
Ingenious idea.
Thank you, just hope this works🤞🤞
Looking forward to seeing these grow! I can see the headline now 'Houston man attacked by mutant carrots" 🥕🥕🥕
🤣🤣🤣 Let's hope not, or at least, let's hope I'm filming when that happens🤣🤣🤣
You know how refreshing it is to see a mans man making garden videos? Well. Here's my sub. And my respect. You were clear, direct, and uncut. I liked that you didn't have your kids running around "helping", I like that you didn't have this new trend of fast forwarding a time-lapse. Excellent.
Thank you... I did a video last month that took me a month to film... but I didn't do a traditional time laspe... just did little updates while the experiments were doing stuff.
I do have videos with my youngest, but she's a part of the video, not background.
Thank you for joining this journey, I truly appreciate you. 💯🤗👍
@@DownHomeBackyardGardening don't get me wrong here. I'm not saying I don't enjoy families participating. I just don't enjoy watching an instruction video when the actual instruction is paused so a toddler can "dig the hole, or drill". It's cute ya but that makes a 2 minute video 15 minutes. You get me?
Life's a garden, dig it! 🤘
Dude, this is awesome! Just got the same seeds from Baker Creek yesterday and we are 2 1/2 months before our last frost date, but we had a warm up for two weeks in the 40s & 50s. I can’t wait to get out in the garden! I’ve seen this trick done with old concrete culverts stood on end to plant parsnips in. The end product was 30-40 inches long and no nubs.
That's a great idea... this was the only thing I could think of, so I truly hope it works. Time will tell... idk what zone you're in, but carrots are a cold winter crop.
I'm so excited for these things to grow. 🤗🤗🤗
@@DownHomeBackyardGardening Zone 5b. Still have a few patches of snow and it feels more like March, but I’m thinking the groundhog was right!
Can't wait to follow this!
Since I filmed that video, the carrots have tripled in size... almost time to thin them out. 🤗🤗🤗
Oh my gosh, what a fun project!
i grew burdock rt. like this. drove my neighbor crazy so i spray painted the tubes.
🤣🤣🤣
Man, awesome idea with the PVC pipe. I can’t wait to see these harvested. A six foot carrot 😳.
Thank you, I can't even imagine a carrot that big... I'll be over the moon happy with a 2' carrot🤗🤗🤗
@@DownHomeBackyardGardening Hell, a foot long one would be video worthy 🤣
@@OSKG2023 💯💯
Just found your channel and subscribed. I can't wait to see how they grow. I've never had luck growing any carrots but thinking about planting some tomorrow even though we are expecting possibly snow in March.
Carrots are a cold weather crop... so, you never know.
Thank you for subscribing and joining this gardening journey. 💯👍👍
Those are going to be huge! Soil is key!! I agree with the sweet fall carrots! Can't wait to see the progress!
Thank you, I'm excited also... since I filmed this video, the carrots have tripled in size already. It's almost time for me to thin them out. 💯🤘
Execelente metodo
Gracias, no se me ocurría otra forma de cultivarlos. 🤞🤞🤞
Hi. Nice to see someone trying to grow something a bit different.
I thought you may have wanted to space your pipes a bit further apart or at least staggered them. Carrot leaves are your provider of sunlight conversion and need a bit of room.
The other thing is I would have used a larger circumference pipe personally. Is there a video how to grow these from Japan and how they grow them?. Anyway good luck with your trials. Cheers.
Thank you for those thoughts, I might spread them out once they really start to take off. And yes, I spent probably 10 minutes at the store trying to decide if I should get the wider pipes or not... the cost difference is what made me go with these tubes this time... but if these take off, I'll probably get wider tubes that are longer, to really allow the carrots to take off. 🤞🤞🥶
After watching your video I went to ytube and did a search for the same type you are growing. Perhaps you might learn a bit more there. Just type in the name of the carrot. Good luck.
@@gregorynichols9022 I've done a little research on them, but I love the process and journey of gardening, so I like trying new veggies and experimenting... They're growing so good right now💯👍👍
i wonder if you got a strong plastic sheet that you could roll up tired up and away where you can untie it as it starts to expand and allow the tube to expand as well the way you're doing it i be afraid that it wouldn't have the room to grow because the soil would have nowhere to go some sort of plastic hard walled sheet rolled up with a nylon stretchy bands in my mind i got like a crazy carpet rolls up with stretchy bands around it allowing you to get a super carrot
That's a really good idea, and if this fails, I will definitely look into that idea. Thank you for that comment. 🤗🤗
How will you extract the carrot from the tubes? I thought maybe the tubes would be card board - you can cut them out Excellent post.
I'll just slowly pull them up from the top... hopefully they'll all grow🙏🙏🙏

Oooh I have access to that same garden soil and I’ve been wondering if I can use it to fill a 4x8 raised bed? Would you recommend doing half that soil and half their compost ? Or just this soil?
Thank you so much for your input
Are you talking about Living Earth? If so, it's a fantastic company... I literally use all their products in my beds. 💯👍
@@DownHomeBackyardGardening yeah but they have many options so I was wondering what to fill up raised beds with 👍🏽 I was wondering if I should fill with the organic garden soil completely or half that and half compost?
@daniurka16 I use their Tree & Scrub mix (it's a Veggie mix). Or, you can use their mix soil (you'll just have to add fertilzer). The compost I use as a mulch for top dressing / amending the beds.
@@DownHomeBackyardGardening oh wow ok thank you so much for answering I didn’t even think of that one I didn’t know it was a veggie mix and I went to one and the person there didn’t know much about gardening. Again thank you for your time and content!
