Cyber truck is a mirror 🪞 can’t see it lol 😂. Cyber fail more like it
I can tell you the results of your proposed experiment with replaced side panel--you toss it out in the woods for, say for half a century, exposed to mild acid of fallen leaves and all the elements that would completely obliterate common carbon steels most cars are made of--and there will be zero significant change to that panel, nothing that can't be cleaned off and maybe some scratches, dings from larger falling limbs. I've done similar experiments over decades, just incidental exposure of lessor quality common SS, commercial sinks and such. Nothing happens to SS.
Very harsh chemicals can damage it, if you were to sprinkle granulated automatic dishwasher detergent on it and let sit over night wet, that can eat holes in it in concentrated form. Common acids like concentrated vinegar or bases like ammonia which will remove automotive paint in hrs, will not faze SS.
Please move out of Michigan or reach out to your legislators. No fault insurance is beyond anger
Again, the rust is from road debris during transport, I normally regularly use a rust remover on my Painted Kia Soul EV and the rust remover turns purple indicating ferrous embedded in the paint is getting dissolved so it happens to every vehicle painted or stainless steel.
The rust is probably deposit of the iron of the other car which rusts on the stainless steel 🙃
Yeah it's a stain NOT corrosion of the panel.
@@Mrbfgray *facepalm* when steel comes into contact with stainless steel... stainless steel starts to rust.

A lot of michigan people do not ever parallel park, and it appears the person was trying to get in the parking spot between the 2 vehicles imho
That is probably not rust from the cyber truck, it is metal left behind from the other car.
*facepalm* when steel comes into contact with stainless steel... stainless steel starts to rust.
It is NOT a stain, it is RUST.
Suggestion, if you don't know what your talking about, keep your mouth shut so that you don't prove yourself to be a dunce.
@@PDVism How's that dunce cap working out?
@@PDVism Theoretically it is not the stainless steel that rusts. One metal acts as the anode, generating electrons that create an electrical current flow. The other metal acts as the cathode, collecting these electrons. An electrolyte material (such as rainwater or dew) covers the metals where they touch, completing the electrical current path. If this occurs, corrosion can happen.
💯
@@PDVism relax. Mark mentioned "probably". He didn't speak from a place of facts.
It's perfectly reasonable to speak your mind, and it's perfectly fine to come in and correct with actual facts.

Bad drivers everywhere.
That corrosion spot will not spread. That comes from the carbon steel from the Subaru. If you were to keep the panel, you could grind it (the rust) off and fill it in with a (tig-) welder.
if he doesn't grind it of or if he does it with tools that aren't solely used on stainless steel then he will have growing rust
@@PDVism not much, because the carbon steel will corrode the stainless closest around it, until it literally falls off. So the corrosion will stop itself. But I would grind off the carbon steel just because it is annoying.
@@adamrak7560 *facepalm*
The rust won't stop by it self.
Once rust is started it will continue unless you remove the rust area completely. If you remove it with tools that were previously used on steel you'll even make matters worse because you'll embed more steel particles into the stainless.
All of the collision damage to my MX has been from other people hitting my stationary vehicle in parking lots or garages on the rear bumper cover. Bright red, how do they fail to avoid it??
What is up with these people!
Repair cost is crazy reasonable here. I'm hoping this will bring down insurance cost overall. Currently insurance cost for Tesla Model 3 and Y are way up there compared to cars in it's price category.
Are you sure? Shop around. Our 3 and Y insurance was the same or less than our previous vehicles (Ford focus and Chevy equinox)
Glass shattering due to a manufacturing error (built in stress point) can happen anytime. Our older Chevy Blazer was sitting in the garage for about 10 minutes after we had pulled in on a normal summer day - not hot - and literally "blew up". We heard a loud bang in the house, ran into the closed garage and the glass was everywhere - nothing had fallen on it, nothing had punch up from the inside, just a pretty clean opening where the glass had been.
Elon, put down the whiskey bottle and get some rest.
Must be a thing for US cars.
Thanks for showing us the good, bad, and ugly. And kudos to Tesla for not gouging on parts/labor.
Couple of things that is the carbon steel for the other car, you can clean that off with autoglym iron remover. It is not rust form Cyber truck and will not be spreading through the panel.
One thing, it is cyber rust - nothing to do with the collision.
@@andrewholdaway813 Having worked in the Petro Chemical industry for the last 40 years dealing with every variant of Stainless steel, so I am speaking from experience and not from speculation. 400 series stainless has high ferrous content and is magnetic and prone to corrosion so yes there are some variants of Stainless that do corrode with red oxide hues from the high ferrous content.
@@berthogendoorn2133
Cybertrucks are already infamous for their rusting - many even being delivered pre-corroded.
@@berthogendoorn2133

I’m thinking when Tesla replaced that A pillar panel above the glass maybe they put some extra pressure on the glass and possibly cracked it and when the temperatures changed outside it finally shattered.
That rust is from the mild steel that got scraped off of the other car. It rusted and stained your panel. It won't come back.
As someone who was in the "carbiz" for many decades, you are a dream customer. Most people bitch piss and moan about just anything. You take things in their stride. Great job!
👍Some customers are a total NIGHTMARE!
A little background before I make my comment. I have welded, machined, and fabricated with stainless steel for almost 40 years. Stainless steel generally does not rust. The rust you see is superficial surface rust. The panel will not corrode away. It will not intrude into the thickness of the material in anyway. With a ScotchBrite pad and some proper buffing it'll be gone. When stainless steel is handled around steel it will pick up superficial transfer from your steel table top, the dies in a break, regular hand tools scraping the metal. You get the transfer to the stainless. It is very much just superficial surface transfer. The Cyber truck skin is not going to rot away in the driveway because of rust. I may. But it won’t. I like your videos by the way.👍
I don’t understand why the panel getting damaged then made it rust… can you explain please?
You should ask them for the old panel. Great to put on the wall 😏
have some laser cut give away items made lol
Good idea @@zachmoyer1849
Thanks for the update! Body panel and glass pricing surprisingly really good. The glass break low-key looks cool. If I had to pay for that body damage, I’d probably leave it but lucky for you the other driver is! Good luck getting everything buttoned up.
6:44 could that be a bit of the steel left from the other car impact which of course rusts? Why do you even contemplate a possibility of rust spreading through the stainless steel???
*facepalm*
Because if you knew anything about metals you would know that stainless steel can rust. All that is needed is something that isn't stainless steel but just normal steel scratch the stainless and the stainless WILL and SHALL rust.
Yeah, I was very perplexed by his reaction to this - it's not like paint coming off and rust starting 😂
@@PDVismIt is very unlikely it would start rusting in the environment it has been in... The stainless body panels that is. Thr cybertruck is primarily made from anything but stainless steel.
@@PDVism hey aren't you the Dunce Guy that keeps commenting without actual data?
@@PDVismlmao so you are just going to copy and paste on every single comment in this thread. What a sad life you lead. Go put that time into being productive smh
That is absolutely insanely cheap to fix that huge panel. RIVIAN got rear-ended and two different people paid north of $40k. My BMW X5M just got back from a small dent in the tail gate and it cost $3200 for a small lower gate. Paint is expensive.
I don't believe the "rust" will spread through the panel. A great cleaner for Stainless Steel is Bar Keepers Friend polish. Simply amazing product! So glad now my number in line for my Cybertruck is 712,000+ because by the time they get to me, Tesla will have worked out probably over a thousand kinks and improvements.
If you look at the Subaru's scrapped fender, that may be where some metal was scraped off by the sharp edge of the Cybertruck against the Subaru fender. It may be like the rail dust falling on the truck during transport. So basically Subaru metal is rusting on the Cybertruck, which is to be expected. Stainless Steel is not just on the surface. It is not like galvanized steel,
Great video. I just got my cybertruck last week. It had scratches on the “hood” and some panel gaps where the lid of the fronk meets the sides, and the two A pillars are uneven in how much they come higher off the windshield. Do you think I should let Tesla mess around with it and try to fix it? Or if you think they could make it worse, maybe I should just live with it?
Imagine being such a bad driver that you don’t see that you’re about to hit the car next to you in your mirror when you are parallel parking.
and it’s a gigantic truck 😂
@@nh6central that doesn’t excuse anything. That just say you don’t know how to parallel park.
@@brendanmeyler1641 nah, he wasn't excusing it...he's implying that's even more reason NOT to hit something. in other words, something is so gigantic that you can't say you didn't see it
@@felixchien1664 ah I see, my b dude
I notice that it always comes in waves. I do years of absolutely no accidents, not even any close calls. Then over the course of 1 month, I accidentally back my trailer into the side of my truck, a week later someone runs a red light, gets hit, rolls into a parking lot and hits the other side of my truck. I have it sent for insurance repairs from the car crash, and literally the day after I get it back I have a front-end collision making a turn and the other person did not stop for their stop sign, and just hit me.
It's been years since then, so I'm really worried the next wave is coming LOL
Great video , very entertaining with up to date info . Plus , love your positive attitude , thanks .
Keep it. It adds character! ^_^ Its part of the patina of your Cyber Truck.
The rust is from the carbon steel off the other car left behind remove it that'll be the end of it Great video !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was just going to say this
Michigan changed minitort, at fault now pays upto 3000. That bed side repair is very affordable, wow, that's 5k for a big3 truck. The collision rubbed off the passivation layer off the stainless, there's cleaners we use post welding to rebuild that layer and clean the weld
Of course it was a subaru, glad there insurance will pay for it. Had something similar on my model 3 when it was new and Tesla couldn't fix it. Other shops where unsure what to do to it being aluminum, so I just have a nice scrape/dent to live with. Wonder if cybertruck will end up rusting like all other trucks... just on the outside not the inside of the body.
The parts being affordable is awesome! This makes me feel like it's an actual truck that can be repaired.
How much was it to tint the windows?
I paid $300 to tint the windows
I have over 20 years of experience using Stainless steel, in multiple tools, working outside,.
it can rust, i didn't claim it couldn't, but (IME) not as quickly, or as deeply as that appears to be.
stainless will often show minor specs of rust, if it's not maintained for months or protected. EG: WD40
Wow that sucks! Great sounds like you got their insurance information that's great. With the footage there's no way form to deny it!! Good luck! 🇺🇸✌️
The damage - blows - but content like this can definitely be helpful.
A very well job, good done, on this and all of your videos.
Personally, it's fun watching your videos.
Thank you for your time and effort, Chris.
Some years ago, I had a Nissan P/U. Drove it into the garage and everything was fine. Went out the next morning and the driver's side window was shattered. Electric windows are under pressure when they close and apparently there was a stone chip in the window and overnight, boom the stress got to be a little too much and the window shattered. Crazy.
Can't be the truck s/s 304 because of the nickle percentage will not and can not rust. Will not spread. 430 s/s, will corode and is easly damaged by cleaning type chemicals. Any steel - iron dust or particals or fenders will oxidize if left on the s/s surface it should be polished off befor it can oxidize. KEEP ALL SOS = BRILLO TYPE PADS AWAY FORM YOUR TRUCK. All are iron products. Plenty of non matalic pads out there. That is a life time truck.
Career in industry.
Do enjoy seeing the family
You are Blessed.
4:00 so replacing a piece of metal lager than anything but the hood of a model3 is cheaper than almost any model3 repair I've seen. Good news for the Cybertruck.
The tint most definitely helps. I had to punch a hole in my window when I was stranded and had lost my keys and my wallet and phone etc were in the car. It was very hard to actually get it to shatter with the tint and when it did it held completely together except for where the rock went through.
My goodness on that parallel parking. That is literally the last place you'd hit something when attempting a parallel parking! Did that person not use his side mirrors? When parallel parking, pple usually hit a car with the rear bumper when backing up or they hit the front passenger fender when straightening into the spot.
Just over $200 for the rocker panel is crazy cheap. I may not even bother with the metal rock sliders then, I could replace these 10X for the cost of the metal ones from UP!
Feels like the Universe is jerking your chain......testing you and testing the truck...and both of you are coming out on top. I'll be in Michigan in July, renting a Tesla and driving around. Hopefully I'll see yours around. The CT is STILL not available for config in Canada....we're all stuck on the "pre-order" page like it's 2023.
Great video, stainless steel won’t rust and the rust spot won’t spread. Looking at the early Cybertruck owner’s issues I’m glad I’m order number 250,000 ish so Tesla can find and fix the new product issues before I get my truck in 2025/26.
Michigan blows with the auto insurance! I could hardly tell when I saw it the other day!
Thank you for this! It makes me feel like maybe this is a car that one can afford and maintain, so maybe one day I can get it!
Right, think about a 5 or 10 year old used Cybertruck... these will be insane value
Reminds me of when I was 5, at school, and saw a rusted padlock in the playground and thought it was funny that it said "stainless" when it could clearly be stained
It seems that The Cyber Truck body repair labor is way less than conventional cars. Also no paint is required!
Just got my email that my foundation series truck is ready to order. Went to Seatle and was walking around the mall in Bellevue saw the truck and went up to manager and ask him if I could sit inside and check it out. It’s very spacious the front view out is a bit daunting do you use the front camera? When do you think the full FSD will be available ? I love using FSD in my 2020 myp.thanks for these videos I have found the same Tesla doesn’t overcharge for parts and repairs like the dealerships.
My guess is that the rust is from the other car. Like paint transfer. It isn't the panel corroding.
The lower price probably includes Tesla recycling the old panel so they can fix it and use it again, as the design seems very modular.
There was a Cybertruck spotted in Toledo the other day and there's one in Norwalk. I saw about 5 of them at the Lyndhurst SC when I took my Y for service last week.
Hello, I live in Flint and i haven’t seen one Cybertruck. I went down M52 and 75 and still no truck. Great video
Check engage.tesla.com/clubs/michigan for events that may have one or more Cybertrucks :)
In Michigan, "parked" damage is covered under your "Comprehensive" part of your auto insurance policy. It's wise to carry a zero, or near-zero deductible on your "Comp" insurance. Other states are different.
It would be 0 deductible but I want to avoid a claim if I can help it
@@DirtyTesla Making a claim for "Comp" will not affect your premiums.....becasue this damage was NOT your fault. Your vehicle was parked.
Getting the 1st or BETA of anything is usually an interesting adventure. Is that the same panel you were "cleaning" with a weed wacker?
Yes lol I knew it was going to be replaced :P
The parallel parking syndrome! I tried the AutoPark parallel parking as well and I did not scratch rims or other vehicles 😊
If you want I can send you pictures of some storage tanks, that are used in my facility. They are stainless steel, 50 y/o and ofc rusty here and there, but for the time they've been under rain and sun, they look rather fine. Most of the rust on them is from the different welds, where the nickel oxide has been removed due to the chemical reactions.
Those prices seem great, That broken window is weird, could someone have driven past it at a high rate of speed and kicked up a rock or were you in an actual parking bay?
I wonder if the rust thing is due to transfer from the other cars scraping off steel body panel material?
Regarding the wait for replacement glass: duct tape - a perfect match for the CT!
Great content as per usual 😊
I would have bet that you would have had a Tesla Solar roof vs traditional.
My wife and I are so curious about solar and are looking into it for our next home.
Also look into mini tort claims, you can get up to 3500 i beleive. My 96 explorer was totaled by a hit and run dricer and their insurance paid me kbb value (2500)
If you start getting rust, get it painted mat grey, you still would have the original look.
This is quite the series of unfortunate events, you sure you don’t have bad luck? 😂 Thankfully everything is getting fixed! Hopefully they let you keep that side panel and you can play around with the rust on it, would make for great content!
I think that big cyber truck fender blocks visibility in the mirror when parallel parking? Anything behind the fender is invisible?
Appreciate the insights, cheers from the Mitten (made parts for Model S plaid heh)
Bet somebody makes edge guards for the truck in many areas where it can fit. Makes sense even if wrapped
Hi @DirtyTesla, doesn't MI's no-fault insurance only apply to PIP? In other words, for property damage, even if you were in a moving vehicle, and the other driver was at-fault, wouldn't their insurance still cover the cost to repair your vehicle?
Nope, the ONLY time they other insurance can cover is in this specific situation
I'll bet they lined up their mirror with yours to begin the maneuver but the CT's whole cab is further forward than other vehicles, so the back was further back than they expected
The likely hood depends on several factors, including: The steel's composition, Impurities in the steel, The environment, and The type of water and its conditions.
Stainless steel with a higher chromium content has a higher chance of rusting. Also it took the electromagnetic powder coating off thats why it rusted so fast
Damage like this tends to come in perfect storms, I don’t know why but maybe it’s just Poisson clustering. Same thing happened to me, after 5 years of zero issue ownership in California, right when I moved to Seattle I had 5 different incidents in a short span of time, none of which were my fault. 😖
I also noticed that Tesla really does charge fair prices for small trim work, even on their expensive cars, so your experience here matches mine.
You will need a rear fascia and the upper bed appliqué. The fascia was scraped in the wreck and the appliqué has to be removed to replace 1/4 panel. It’s not reusable
One of the many Features/ "Schticks" :
- windshields=bulletproof
- windows = bulletproof
- moon roof = bulletproof
- mud flaps = stick proof
I had a quote for that same amount to have a deep scratch fixed on my Model 3 hood!
No Fault Insurance?! What! 😱
I guess living in Texas I’ve never heard of this craziness. “Your insurance pays for yours their insurance pays for theirs” What if you have liability only? Someone hits you, it’s their insurance that should pay… what am I missing? Does it work in that fucked way in other states?
Edit: After doing some research Chris is completely wrong about this 2:52 . Vehicle damage is handled just like any other state (whoever’s at fault does matter), it’s only medical expenses that are handled differently.
Pitiful. Would someone explain why this STAINESS STEEL is rusting?
I have a stainless steel table outside that has plenty of scratches and is not rusting. I' m in Florida where humidity and rain is rampant. No rust after 20 years! Is this a hardened stainless steel or extra steel content for strength?
If that A pillar glass defect was not caused by the trim replacement, then Tesla would probably need to make some recalls. I hope there is a good explanation because it can be dangerous if you have not tinted that window.
So much for the indestructible truck. A very minor contact damaged the Cybertruck body at least as much as the other vehicle.
Is that also rust on the panel near where the stick skewered your flap? Or maybe just dirt hehe
Check your front truck under the covers. Wiper fluid is most likely leaking into there into the wiring system.
Please leave it so you and your viewers can learn the difference between stainless steel and paint-coated steel
( Hint: you can get surface corrosion but it does not penetrate or spread.)
I really think you should take the $2000, LOL.
This is the mind-blowing difference between owning a CyberTruck and any other vehicle ❤, you can enjoy making money on Stupid Drivers.
We had a nearly brand new Nissan 4WD some years ago, and the driver’s window just broke one day when parked in our garage. There was never any impact- just a fault in the glass. Nissan wouldn’t replace it 😡
Over the last four years of ownership, I’ve found Tesla parts to be VERY reasonably priced!
Never 'rent,' that changes, or cancels, your insurance. Always 'loan,' 'allow,' 'let' a friend use it.
I don't think they're going to replace that panel. With the right tools and skills, it shouldn't be that difficult to take it off, flatten that bend and buff out any scratches. (Google English Wheel motorcycle gas tank. Definitely under the silk purse from a pig's ear category.)
Wrapping is a great idea. I had my Model Y wrapped, matte protective film. My neighbor backed into it with a rack extending from the back of his van. Shredded the wrap on the bumper; zero damage underneath. Cost $1000 to replace the wrap.
As a sailboat owner, I know 'you're not supposed to seal up stainless steel.' For stainless to remain stainless it needs to be in contact with oxygen. Surely someone knows whether or not this might be an issue with the Cybertruck. Every single Cybertruck I've seen 'in the wild' in Los Angeles has been wrapped. (about 6 of them)
Know what Windex, ammonia, is good for? Critters who chew. My friend's brand new garden hose was chewed into three pieces by raccoons. I fixed it, then sprayed it with Windex. It dries, but if a critter licks it, it turns back into a caustic base, tastes soapy. I figured it would need another spritz after a few months. Nope. They never touched it again for years.
You live out in the woods, Ammonia spritzing is also a good trick under a vehicle on anything a critter might chew. This will be more for your neighbors' ICE vehicles with hoses and wiring running under the vehicle, access to the engine compartment, Will also work on tires. Give it a spray and they won't touch it.
ammonia also works as temporary lubrication. Bases and Acids are only this when they're wet. We always sprayed our handle bars with it to slip on hand grips. The ammonia dries, no more slippery, permanent. (Any other lube will always remain slippery.)
What amazes me most about cybertruck owners is that they treat all the crap that happens to their car as normal, as if this is something you have with all cars... No dudes, iyou pay $100k for a car and panels fall off on their own?
If this were any other brand you'd bring the car back and expect a full refund. But not with Tesla, they just bring it to the service station and "still the best car I ever owned" until the next bit falls off.
It's allmost asif you feel blessed to have this truck and want to show the world how you suffer for the greater good... or something.. I don't know, I'd just want a fully functioning car that doesn't break down or drop panels etc... I guess I'm just pickier about where I put my $100k.
What is your full coverage insurance cost per month if you dont mind me asking ?
Rivian rear corner panel fix is insane $$$!
nobody has seemed to answer, but are the glass windows the same armored glass as the CT unveil? Or are they just normal glass?
What kind of wrap? What color? APC green?
I thought “Stainless” Steel is supposed to be resistant to Rust?! Hope Tesla takes care of You and fixes You Cyber Truck Well!
Bar Keeper's Friend might be a good thing to try on that rust spot as it might just be rust prone metal smeared on top of your Stainless Steel.
All good information, thank you
stainless should not rust like that, i'm thinking it could be metal impacted from the other vehicle. try a little Tormek paste.
also,... after cleaning, wipe it with a little bit of light oil, EG: WD40.
Thinking that stainless steel doesn't rust..... shows that you have no clue that stainless steel can very easily rust.
It’s cursed. Sell it and get another X. Make your wife happier, she loved the last one.
Those are some mighty fine wheel hub covers you have there 😉
Tesla cameras caught the license plates of the car that hit my Model 3 while driving into the parking space next to mine. He didn’t bother leaving a note. Luckily he has the same insurance company as mine. Problem was quickly solved although I filed 2 hit and run reports at DMV and Police.
Is there a coating on the SS panels when they are manufactured?
When getting a license, not everyone gets tested on parallel parking. You may be taught it but not tested on it so people may simply just screw it up. Parallel parking is also one of the most hardest maneuvers when driving a car.
Right. I actually asked to skip that portion and they just took the points off. Because I had done so well on the other parts, I passed the test....barely. But to this day, I'm terrible at parallel parking and only do it with autopark. Sad, I know. LOL
Yes! Stick it to that other guys insurance......2nd thought, don' let anyone else drive your truck no matter how tempting.
Try some Bartender's Keep On that "rust" spot. Love to see if that takes it off. Could be from the other car?
I bet the glass problem was from the flapping trim piece or tightening the trim nut improperly.
