l once bicycled there from St Catharines and met my ex and her brother who was visiting. another time the water flow was just right l swam over to under the falls and stood there while the water poured over me so refreshing. another time l organized a picnic with the people from work that was fun.
It is nice to hear someone talk about the area so positively. My mother, teacher and various Girl Guiding leaders, were all beaten down by children questioning the "Falls" aspect. I remember only hiking it in the dead of winter, and the falls being bone dry. For children who were constantly biking and being driven past Niagara Falls it was a tough sell. 😄
Thank you for this video. We were visiting the Niagara area a week ago from New Zealand and we made a drive out to Balls Falls on the most beautiful sunny autumn day and had a really enjoyable visit. Thanks so much for putting in the time to show this area. We would have never found it otherwise. I have a bit of a bung knee so the bigger walk was out but we wandered around for a couple of hours and just had a lovely time.
Wow that’s so great to hear! Glad you had a nice time. Thanks for the nice comment and letting me know. Makes it all worth it when I know someone has benefited from one of my videos.
You'd have loved it in it's hay day when the upper falls was a popular swimming hole among us teens as High School was about to let out. Decades later, the upper falls was eventually fenced off to stop Numpties from buggering themselves up on the submerged rocks. Either they hadn't been schooled as to where the rocks were, or best spot to dive or jump was, or simply ignored others advice by jumping anyway regardless of falling water levels as summer set in.
Wow! I grew up with high school friends, bike riding and camping at Balls Falls. This visitors center is proof someone had too much money to spend, a huge imposition on the landscape. It was being developed as a pioneer village, but that looks lost.
Wow, nice! A good friend of mine took his young son (and another boy) through there some years back, and somehow became lost. After a couple of hours they found their way out, but I can see how easily this could happen. Cheers and thanks!
@@glasbo Thank you for the nice reply! My friend (and his young son, and another boy) became lost in Balls Falls a good 25 years ago. I am not sure if the trails were as clearly marked back then. In any event, I enjoy your channel and your fun adventure spirit.
Looking at the lower falls from the drones perspective makes pretty clear why no one used to jump there. Looks awfully shallow at the bottom. One thing I do remember fondly, was ditching class when the water was high enough to dive off the upper falls. Now you can't even take a running jump because of that damn fence.
I lived in the US for a while and one thing I noticed at regional, state and national parks was... no fences! When I came back home to Ontario I really noticed how fenced off everything is.. I get it but it's an eye sore and ruins a solid cliff jumping spot!
There's a bit of a dark side to these falls. I grew up here, and if you live here long enough, you end up knowing someone who has lost their life to these cliffs.
14$ to park ... it’s disgraceful the costs and parking fees , never mind fines if you don’t pay ... to see natural wonders that were once FREE TO VISIT ... growing up in Hamilton I’m disgusted with this !
@@glasbo the main road from Toronto to Buffalo is QEW. It has signs for Ball’s Falls. The QEW is one of Ontario's busiest highways, with an average of close to 250,000 vehicles per day on some sections

Very enjoyable. I will have to visit someday.
In the fall it must be incredible.

Very nice video. I live about an hour and a half drive from there and didn't know about it.
So you live in Toronto? along with about 4 million others.
@@MisterMister5893 No, I live close to London, Ontario with about one other.
I stood on the edge in dry season was Amazing...
Excellent instruction video, thank you
Great to hear, thank you!
As you get older... your Ball's Falls. Every time I sit down, I have to be careful.

Thank you! I think if you stick to the trails and stay close to the river you’ll be good. They were pretty well groomed when I was there.

@ agreed. So I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house
"Hey! What gives you the right
To put up a fence to keep me out

I believe it. I grew up near Rattlesnake point and Mount Nemo and from time to time you'd hear about accidents.

unfortunately, parking is too expensive to enjoy

Not hidden by any means. Big sign on main road
I guess it’s not hidden if you just happen to be driving right by it lol
