This guy has come a long way in extreme drumming. Remember, John was in Angel Corpse and his drumming was fucking amazing back then. Setting that bar pretty high with speed, precision and technicality. I watched another video of him that recently came out and he explains his philosophy on his techniques. Keep it up man!
I have been playing drums for 40 years. This video was my first exposure to "metal" drumming or music. I never saw anything like this in all my years of playing. Would some metal drumming expert out there answer this---How is this humanly possible? Could this fellow transition to,say, "swing or big band" charts? Why don't his legs and hands go numb? He's faster and more powerful than any contemporary I ever had. I'm still in shock.
I believe this was the first show of the entire tour. Not every drummer is 100% on their first live show. Especially since John L hasnt been in Origin for a few years, he had to learn new material and learn his old again. I remember on the Roddy board he said the practices were exhausting before they went on tour.
jesus he makes it look like a walk in the park, casually looking around while his wrists and fingers are working over time. Im begining to think hes better than George Kollias
Absolutely SICK After watching lot´s of his video´s I´m still not sure if he´s using more wrist or finger technique. When he play´s gravity blasts def. wrist but not sure about the blasts...
Well, practicing on endurance and speed a lot, using the correct technique (technique is very important) Using pushpull and gravity blasts make it possible. Its very hard though. Really takes a lot of practise :)
I can do that, here hold my,........... .....................................................ah forget it. ......................................................................CAN NOT DO IT.
it`s simple :)- many of brutal death metal drummers have similar technique.. it`s nothing shocking in this kind of musical extreme :) :) get use to it ;) In fact - John is just awesome drummer.
I think he is a great drummer...but I can see him messing up alot. And at one point he just stops to get his bearings, then kicks back in. But noone is perfect...and I KNOW it's fucking near impossible to play shit like that LIVE and be able to hear what anyone's doing!!! Being a drummer, You drown out everyone else with cymbals sometimes...plus playing at speeds greater than 250 bpm's can be difficult!!!
still to this day, this and part 1are my favorite drum cam of any drum camming out there! Shear awesome!
Saw them around like 2002 with Hate Eternal and Nile, i was blown away!! Origin Rules! Never miss a show since that day!
