Beethoven the greatest composer of all time. I can even imagine how he did all this by himself. If he was alive now, I would tell him that he is the best. I really love his compositions. Bravo to Beethoven
A most musically satisfying performance. The pianist fully understands the drama and wide range of feelings Beethoven expressed in sounds. Bravo to him. I love the tempi. Wonderful to listen to.
You know if Beethoven had never composed the 9th this would be hailed as his masterwork, but its greatness is eclipsed by the glory of the symphony. There is nothing one can say about genius on this level except to enjoy it. And this wonderful performance brings all that magic out.
I regard this as Beethoven's masterpiece. This performance is spoilt by the harshness of the Steinway, the baseboard needs to really hefty to give a better tone.
This is not just the best in Asia, it’s one of the best orchestra, the best venues, the best performers in the world of classical music in the entire world, even surpassing Europeans and Americans.
Yes, I think he shows off here, displaying all the tricks of his repertoire, free of all sentimentality or political allusion. Through this he reaches the fringes of the absolute for me.
Beethoven opus 80! To listen to this great and sooo wooonderful performance on u-tube is a marvelous thrill. Imagine you were there live!! Must be breathtaking. Congratulations to all those performing. Orchestra, soloists, pianist , chorus and last but certainly not least conductor!
Amazing -- such passion and joy to be part of this magic composition. This from tiny Singapore. Can you imagine that just a generation ago Singapore started from zero -- no water, energy, natural resources, land, or economy. They prove what people can do.
While I don't deny this, I feel this applies infinitely more to Mozart who died at 35. Beethoven hadn't even composed his third symphony at that age; we would hardly hear much of him. Mozart was so prolific and churned out works, so had he lived another 15 years, the course of western music could be very different with such a quantity of genius. Plus, Beethoven was slowing down in his later years, so giving him more time would have yielded probably much less than if Mozart had lived longer.
@@fawkes2109Nah, Beethoven rules. Mozart's way too bland, as is most music of the Classical era. Could've been written by one and the same composer. Beethoven broke that mould.
@@bag3lmonst3r72 Careful - you sound massively uncultured. While Beethoven is my favourite composer, I love Mozart too. Mozart is placed in the top three composers, despite having died at 35. At that age, Beethoven hadn't even written the work that first broke the classical mould (Eroica). You cannot be saying Mozart is bland; he's at the top of every musical genre. Have you listened to his operas? Compare Don Giovanni to Fidelio. There is no contest to be had. Now consider the fact that Mozart has works at the top of every genre despite his premature death; don't you think he would have developed into a revolutionary composer like Beethoven. You can even hear Romantic tones in his later works. Again - he died at 35. We wouldn't have heard of Beethoven if he had died at that age. Had Mozart lived longer, we can only imagine where his genius would've taken the musical world.
Mozart is not a romantic composer. But what he would do if he came across Beethoven's eroica. Mozart would've written more fascinating works within Classical mould. He is much smoother and softer (but not facile)than Beethoven.
I must listen to this 3 or 4 times a week. I just love it! It's glorious! It's playful! Beethoven is toying with me, taking me back and forth between the child like melodies then into coronation music. It's joyous and royal at the same time a along on this steady crescendo to the beautiful choir. What a feast for our ears and mind. This music feeds my soul.
Edmund Roberts. From Canada with love. That was superb, they all seemed to enjoy performing as much as I enjoyed listening. Enthusiasm and skill makes for a winning combination.
Thank you for your kind words, Edmund! It was indeed one of our fondest memories from 2019, and this year a way we can keep marking Beethoven's 250th birthday.
The Performance Was Magnificent !!! An Extremely Deserved Prolonged Standing Ovation for both Soloist , Choir , and Orchestra !!!..I LOVE IT When An Audience Realizes they have just heard Greatness !!!....
A joyful, joyous concert. What fun to see Andrew Litton practically dancing on the podium. The smiles of the choir and soloists delivered the music’s message of universal friendship so wonderfully. ‘Fried und freude’ to one and all in these troubled times.
Wow the conductor is amazing! He puts so much emotion into his movements, and thus the entire orchestra shines as well. The single best rendition of this piece by far. Bravo!
As a pianist, I am not sure that I could perform this piece. It is so emotional. When I try to imagine being surrounded by such great talent, hearing all of the sounds and feeling the percussion of it all, I suspect that I would probably be buzzing and shaking, if not weeping.
An uncommonly performed piece and i am glad that it is available on youtube by the SSO. Brilliant playing with fine strings and woodwinds from the SSO. Irfan played intelligently and the chorus plus the six vocal soloists really amplify this majestic choral fantasy. I wish i were there for the live performance. Thanks for uploading this infrequent work by Beethoven. BRAVO
what a fantastic performance by a super pianist, a super orchestra, a super choir and a super conductor who - just like Leon Bernstein did - happily conducts his orchestra! How can one take the thumb down ???
Tuttora pelle d'oca e lacrime a stento trattenute...
This is BY FAR the best interpretation and rendition I have heard of the piece. You can feel the energy and dynamism in every single player, and especially all of the soloists. Absolute perfection. One of the few renditions that actually makes my eyes tear because it's musically so perfect.
I remember going to the live performance with my school there, in November. I was enthralled by the spectacular performance. I could hear everything in the concert hall, even though I was seated near the top. Well Done!
A tribute to everything beautiful in music , Beethoven , the chorale, the pianist , orchestra and conductor - Bravo , I have enjoyed "multiple " viewing of this superb production celebrating JOY in every way , yes Andrew Litton with his joyous expresssion , everything about this recording is fantastic - well done!!!!
A wonderful performance of my favourite Beethoven piece together with the Triple Concerto. A multicultural Singapore Symphony, singing in German, a great piano soloist , super choir and everyone, including the conductor, thoroughly enjoying themselves. Classical music at it's best as the universal language !!.

The thought that ONE person ALONE could write such a thing just blows my mind
And by this time, he was already partially deaf.

And this isn't even B at his best.

This like a Piano Sonata, a Piano Concerto, A Symphony and a Choral in a single package. Beethoven, thanks.
An European genius and his music conquered entire world. This Singaporean performance is saying everything. Pleasure to watch many times !

Amazing, this music can reunite mankind. Thank you Singapore, thank you Asia. We all live on the same earth!

This fantasy is realy "a sketch "for the ninth symphony

The choral fantasy was ‘training’ for the 9th, imho.
5th, 3d,6th Symphonies, piano 5? Grandiose. But this masterpiece is separate beauty.
