In this review I get two Puddle Jumper HP surfboards from Lost to test. Both boards are stock 5’3” x 19.63 x 2.35 Liters of volume 26.75. The waves we got for testing were ideal for this model in the 1-3’ range.
One board is your typical polyurethane foam with polyester resin, and the other construction is something brand new Lost will be releasing this summer called C4. The C4 construction is still a bit of a secret and I don’t know all that goes into this new technology but it felt really good. Great flex and feel with increased speed in every turn. I also noticed less pressure dents on the deck of the C4 board compared to the PU and Lost’s other popular construction they call Carbon Wrap.
I was very impressed with this little High Performance groveler in the pocket and it’s down the line speed.
This Lost Puddle Jumper HP is a favorite of mine for 2018 in the 1-3’ wave range.

I’ve got the original puddle jumper 5’6, it’s such a fun board to ride. I was worried because it’s so short and I’m almost 6ft, but after getting my first couple waves I learned that it’s definitely meant to be rode short. Good video man, you have great info, you’re a good surfer too.

Amazing review as always! While I haven’t tried the PJHP. I’m 5’8” 138lbs and went with the 5’2” Seaside at 26.5L. I struggle massively in small conditions. I was seriously ready to go with a PJHP (size up, get some extra liters compared to Seaside etc). But I’m wondering if I should just get a longer Seaside…. But the PJHP seems new and a fun way to learn and experiment with fin combos. But I do love how crazy fast and cruisey the Seaside can be…
I just want the right board for summertime at El Porto :) …that isn’t a 7ft foamie

Hey Noel, been watching your reviews and tutorial videos a lot lately and I have to say the content is amazing. Thanks so much for putting this stuff together! With that said, I was hoping you could give me a little advice.
I'm just moving into intermediate surfing, finally getting pumping down and starting to practice cutbacks and re-entries. I'm surfing 4-5 times a week and surf skating just as often. I was hoping you could help me choose the right board and literage based on my experience with the boards below, given I'm 5'10 170lbs:
-36.9L Couch potato with controller quads: super easy to get up, pumps easy, tough to execute sharp turns
-36L High Five with rasta quads: best performance of any board I've ridden. With Slater 3.1 quads though felt way too fast for me to control and always ahead of sections
-35.35L Black Diamond with thruster fins: feels almost as good as high five, first board I pumped on
-33.9L PotatoNator: my drops felt late and I was always behind the section
I also have these boards, but haven't tried them:
    33.5L 5'10 Dominator
    34L 6' Dominator
    35.8L 5'10 Pod Mod
And I will be getting a puddle jumper (or PJHP) in the 34-36L range.
I ride socal beaches, mostly Huntington, SanO, Dana Point, and San Clemente. I find fast waves like Newport to be very difficult.
So between all these boards what do you think will help me progress the fastest, and what literage would be best?
Thanks again for all the helpful content, love your channel!

Hey Noel. Love your videos. I have a 5'7 lib tech PJ for groveling. Do you think I could do the same length for the HP? I would be going down from 33.9 liters to 31. I am thinking it would work at that size in better waves but I'm not sure and the slimmed down shape would help with performance. I am an intermediate surfer and weigh about 172.

    • @surfnshowreviews7777

mitch mcmaster Roughly the same volume. If the board has a lot of volume under the chest and the nose is wide with low entry rocker then I have all the paddle I need. Keeping the board short and sensitive helps me be creative in small waves. Too much volume in these small hybrid boards make the front end heavy.

Hi Noel, what’s your thoughts on pulling the width of the PJHP in a little to help it go rail to rail a bit quicker? Not to take away the speed that the width will give but just enough to give it a bit more quickness rail to rail...

    • @surfnshowreviews7777
      @surfnshowreviews7777  6 лет назад

Matthew Jones I think that could go good... this board feels quick rail to rail as a Quad but I know what your thinking. All I can say is try it... sometimes a small change like that could make it magic or just so so. My suggestion would be don’t go too narrow... you will need that surface area for lift and speed and it also makes a Short Board like this a bit more stable. Cheers...

Hydra is fast but very little rocker so it will struggle in a hollow 2’ pocket if you want to surf vertical. I say PJHP... will offer you the most performance surfing but the Hydra will Grovel the best.... if your Cymatic feels good you can stay sane liters or go up 1L. That’s up to you

I sometimes get on top of the waves trouble getting that paddle speed and was looking at the puddle jumper hp or the El TOMO fish.
Intermediate surfer , 180cm tall and about 75kg.
Im looking at the 5'8 for both boards (33L for the PJHP and 31,9L for the TOMO)...

    • @surfnshowreviews7777

Leo Leger When the water is cold you wear warmer suits and that can add more weight. I would say wearing a 4/3 mm wetsuit with boots and gloves adds roughly 10-12 pounds. With that being said going up on Liters for colder months is ideal. I would say a good liter range for you is 31-33. The PJHP will paddle better and go good in smaller weaker surf.... it’s ideal in 1-4’ surf. The El Tomo Fish is best in 3-6’ surf.

Eddie Dingle It’s not ideal for waves in the 5-6’ range. The range on this PJHP is 1-3’ maybe 4’ max to maximize performance.

Both boards are epic and you will be stoked with both. I prefer the UJ in Spinetek. More performance in the pocket

Does anyone have any experience comparing this to the Placebo quad from a few years back?

Hey Noel, I have the 5'5" PJHP and looking to try it as a quad. Normally riding AM large fins in Futures but this board is FCS2. I'm 165lbs...would you recommend the large rears with the large AM or jump down to medium for all fins?! Thanks

Christian69James I would try that board with a more upright side fins in Large and a Upright Medium Quad Rears like the Reactors. You should try it with fins that you have first and then try what I recommend. I like to use Large Side fins and Medium Quad Rears.

Thanks Noel...been riding this board on the smaller 1-3 ft days in HB with the AM (PC) large fronts and Reactor medium rears with success but still feels a bit sticky at times. I don't have a lot of options with upright fins so trying the AM (PC) mediums up front on the next run. Too bad it's not Futures because I already have the HS1 and I could just throw in the medium rears. Definitely liking it as a quad though so thanks for the review..!! Cheers.

Christian69James Using upright fins on this board will stop it from being sticky. The Reactors or Haydenshapes go sick in that board.

Christian69James Try to rent some... Fin Fanatics or used surf in San Clemente.
