Grinch Hand Wreath Christmas Decorations

- This week, we’re continuing our holiday series, and seeing Green! We created two versions of a Grinch Hand Wreath. We created one using our CNC machine and the other using our Cricut and Heavy Chipboard on a wood round. Let us know which YOU like best!
Step 1: Gather Your Materials

Step 2: Make Your Cuts
Garrett -
Garrett found a Grinch Hand image that he liked and created his own .svg complete with outline border.
He imported and cut the image on the Inventables - X-Carve CNC machine. (it's Like a Cricut for wood)
Kim -
Kim first imported the Grinch Hand image into design space. The black shadow/base image had to be sliced. The Heavy Chipboard is only 11" x 11". And the design needed to be 12" tall.
The .svg image contains layers for each color. Each layer was cut on it’s appropriate color of vinyl.
We also cut the stencils for the quotes.
Step 3: Paint!
Garrett -
Garrett painted the MDF with Acrylic and Chalk Paints. He filled in the edging border with blank paint.
Kim -
Kim painted the wood round with the Waverly - Ink chalk paint.
Step 4: Add Vinyl to the Heavy Chipboard
Kim -
Kim painted the wood round with the Waverly - Ink chalk paint.
Step 5: Stencil Quotes
Garrett -
Garrett painted the MDF with Acrylic and Chalk Paints. He filled in the edging border with blank paint.
Kim -

Step 6: Add Accents - Create Bows
Garrett & Kim -
We used 4 patterns of 2.5” wired ribbon
Cut 3 strips of each ribbon at 24”. Dove tail the ends of each.
Create a 5” loop and pinch the center. Twist one of the tails forward so both are facing in the same direction.
Stack each ribbon, alternating patterns and loops.
Secure them all together with 24” of floral wire.
Fluff your bow!

Its definitely not waterproof. We usually coat everything outdoors with Polyacrylic spray. And, our porch is covered, so they aren't usually exposed directly to the elements.
Both signs are beautiful. I don't have either machine 😥 so I will be doing mine totally by hand. Hope it comes out almost as nice as your 😉

Kim is it with the cricket you can cut out anything is it difficult to transfer it to from some you scanned and saved and then somehow or other you can put it on the cricket and cut it out I have the silhouette in sadly that's one thing I haven't been able to figure out how to do on that but I have been told with the cricket you can do anything.

I've never heard of a CNC machine but now I have to have one! Lol. I wasn't that big of a Grinch fan, but I've seen so much of it this year it's growing on me. (Maybe two sizes! 😂). Anyway, love both of these! Since it have a Cricut, I think I'll try the chipboard with vinyl - that's a nice look. Thanks!

We heard they were cracking down in Grinch Copyright infringement, so we took it down. Email us and I can send it to you. Next week, we are doing a video on how to make an SVG from any image and I am using the Grinch as an example.

We use the www.inventables.com CNC machine.

Love them both! I have a question: How do you keep the chipboard from tearing? I have tried to cut this svg 3 times and it keeps tearing, I taped it down with painters tape, and even the tape tears off some of the chipboard. Any help would be appreciated.
I like to make the tape a little less sticky and then using mod podge as a first layer
They are both Fantastic I would take them both! Can't make Garrets but I can make Kims these go well with my truck, which we call the Grinchmobile!

Im late here but wanted to thank you both. I recently bought a CO2 machine and tried this in acrylic and it looks great😊.

Kim, can you explain how you sized your Grinch images for it to overlap on the black?
The black was the base layer of the svg, the other colors were layers on top. I hid the color layers and did a cut with the black layer on the chipboard. I then cut the black and the color layers from vinyl.

These are both so cute. Love the saying on Kim's and that it is quicker on the Cricut but I'm gonna have to give Garrett my vote for favorite. The painted detail is awesome and just makes the whole sign POP !!! You guys have some really cool TOYS in your workshop....may have to get a Cricut...still thinking about it. PS....love the " I licked the spoon sign" ...it's fantastic. Might have to snag that one...Happy Holidays you two ❤🎄❤
