Still Austin! Got a couple of the new single barrels when I was down south a couple of weeks back. Regarding Early Times BiB…doesn’t a BiB have to be one distillery in distilling season and all? You are correct. So many people came at me for saying it was the same in a prior video that I doubted myself. But BiB regs prove it is the same. Just different blenders.
Great list! I am not ready to conclude that Barton is selling anything other than Brown-Forman product in the Early Times bottles - that would prevent it from being bottled-in-bond, right? Occam's Razor suggests that everything still being put in Early Times bottles is coming out of Brown-Forman barrels and will continue to do so until the Barton product (which didn't start going into barrels until the summer of 2021, I believe) matures.

Great video, but a few comments. The Bottled in Bond Act would eliminate a mix for Early Times since it must be from one distiller from one season. Wes said he did not like the cherry on the 1792. I’ve tried almost all 10 of your bourbons, but a couple of them just aren’t available in NJ. I have to wonder what bottle of Old Tub you were drinking because my bottle was pure peanut butter. Especially as the bottle opened up. The last couple of pours tasted like Skippy and Alcohol. While I love Knob Creek& OGD and enjoy the JB variants, I just hated Old Tub. First bottle I liked way less when I finished it then when I started it.
I had the same experience with the first pour of Old Tubb, so I wrote it off. This one had a lot of fruit notes in the mid palate. Really surprised me.
I feel like we need to reevaluate what “bottom shelf” means cause only half of these are actually found on the bottom shelves of stores and most of the prices I find them listed at are about 30% more expensive than the prices quoted in this video. Great list of bourbons though!

I'm going to just say that Evan Williams BiB is fine, but the 1783 is a real unique and incredible pour. I think most people just haven't had it, but it punches way above its price. The only ones on the list I'd personally take over it are Knob 9 and WT101. BiB is good, but I think it's in the ballpark with a lot of other bourbons.
I think if the OG ET BiB was still on the shelf it should be in your top 3 but like I said awhile ago it does taste different now that the bottle has changed with Sazerac. #cheersgentleman 🥃🥃🥃🥃
Early times BiB tells you where the juice is from, it's still BF. Legally they aren't allowed to put other juice into it, one distiller, one season, and they have to identify the source which is still a BF warehouse - that's how BiB works! The difference between the BF and Sazerac is most likely the person bottling it.
Several people pointed this out to me. I got so much pushback when I told everyone in a prior video that he juice was the same that I doubted myself. Thanks for the clarification.
Not really. Generally whiskey nerds are looking for something at least 90 proof when they go to the bottom shelf. Old Crow certainly has a place in the market, but I would guess it is generally not the whiskey collector.
When I think bottom shelf I think under $30… Evan Williams, OGD 114, WT101, Jim Beam, Benchmark, Buffalo Trace, Larceny, Maker’s, Old Forrester, Rebel Yell, Ezra Brooks, 1792, Smokewagon, CB Jackson black, Bulleit, Woodford, Elijah Craig, Bowman Bros., Old Tub, etc… are all under $30 down here in South TX. Good list

I agree that it is hard to consider some of these “bottom shelf.” For me, including RR10 made me start to just consume this content as just “underrated,” which I would say all of these are, so after that I really enjoyed the video. Of all the bottles, the ET BiB is the best example of “underrated and bottom shelf” because it literally is on the bottom shelf whenever I see it, and even though everyone who has been interested in bourbon for at least a few years fully knows the value of ET, the terrific price point on it makes me still consider it underrated. Relatedly, I think that Saz company can make a fortune by just accepting that the true fans of ET just really want the original juice, and they just bottled up whatever is left of it without cutting it and then being honest about what they are doing and then charge $45 per bottle until it is all gone (I know I would still pay that for at least one bottle just to have it).

We realized that the titles were too similar and would cause an uproar, so we changed this title. I agree it isn't the most fitting. Regarding ET, a few viewers pointed out to me that BiB regulations dictate that the two distilleries could never be blended together, so what we have now is 100% the old BF juice, and those that are saying it taste different are either noticing the difference in blending styles or it is placebo effect. All indications are the beloved ET will remain unchanged until they run out of juice.
I agree with all the picks except for the benchmark number 8, Which is the only one available in my area of New York and surrounding States. It is pure swill.
I don't know where your voters live, but if Russell's Reserve and Knob Creek are on their "bottom shelf" (as the title describes), they're in tall cotton. Early Times BiB at 5????? For me that juice is THE top bottom shelf bourbon. Personally I don’t get much of a difference between the new and old juice.
@@FlameUrPKZ It depends on your definition of "allocated". If you mean hard to find, store limit's the number of bottles, etc then yes. Although, anyone willing to put in even the slightest amount of effort could bet both 3-4 times a year. Nothing like other "allocated". Some stores even put BT and ER on shelves. Most of the bottles I would consider allocated never get put out. They are hidden in the back office.

Really surprised me.
only one you missed was coopers craft 100
It got a lot of votes, but it isn't distributed in TX and I have never had it.
I feel like we need to reevaluate what “bottom shelf” means cause only half of these are actually found on the bottom shelves of stores and most of the prices I find them listed at are about 30% more expensive than the prices quoted in this video. Great list of bourbons though!
To be 100% transparent the title of this episode was supposed to be top 10 undervalued bourbons. When I crowdsourced the brands I noticed 7 that got mentioned that only got 1 or 2 votes that people drink all the time. It made me realize there are undervalued bourbons, and overlooked bourbons. I wrote two episodes and we recorded both. The best thing would have been to space them out, but Wes edited them back to back. We realized that the titles were too similar and would cause an uproar, so we changed this title. I agree it isn't the most fitting.
I should try the 1783. You are the second person to say this.
@@BourbonRealTalkit and EWSB are the only EWs I like
How did old Fitzgerald Finish?
It didn't get any votes.
I've never saw the ogd 114 for under 30 bucks
Pricing is crazy. It is $22 where we live.
@@BourbonRealTalk nice I got mine for $34
$30 in VA.
This was crowd-sourced. I can attest, as I voted lol! Never see Early Times in my area...and that's a bad time!
That sucks! Sorry
@@BourbonRealTalk Thank you for acknowledging my loss haha!
That Early Times is on time. It’s great for the money
I always enjoy it when I have it.
I think if the OG ET BiB was still on the shelf it should be in your top 3 but like I said awhile ago it does taste different now that the bottle has changed with Sazerac. #cheersgentleman 🥃🥃🥃🥃
Cheers!
RR 10 year is $23.99 in Wisconsin
Nice!
Old Grand Dad 114 for $20ish??? I can't even get the Bonded for that price! OGD114 is $30 in my neck of the woods.
Price variance per state is crazy.
In your opinion would Old Crow fit into this list?
Not really. Generally whiskey nerds are looking for something at least 90 proof when they go to the bottom shelf. Old Crow certainly has a place in the market, but I would guess it is generally not the whiskey collector.
When I think bottom shelf I think under $30…
Evan Williams, OGD 114, WT101, Jim Beam, Benchmark, Buffalo Trace, Larceny, Maker’s, Old Forrester, Rebel Yell, Ezra Brooks, 1792, Smokewagon, CB Jackson black, Bulleit, Woodford, Elijah Craig, Bowman Bros., Old Tub, etc… are all under $30 down here in South TX. Good list

@@BourbonRealTalk still a great episode. And that makes sense

Early Times. Yummy for the price.
Agreed!
where can I get the Hype Train and does it come in cask strength?
❤️
$/oz to me: best budget or bottom shelf is Early Times.
Hard to argue with that.
I agree with all the picks except for the benchmark number 8, Which is the only one available in my area of New York and surrounding States. It is pure swill.
I thought it was an OK pour for the price. Was thinking more of the SiB, BiB, and FP versions though.
I don't know where your voters live, but if Russell's Reserve and Knob Creek are on their "bottom shelf" (as the title describes), they're in tall cotton. In my liquor stores, they're at eye-level, and don't belong in this category. What they slept on was Henry McKenna. Having said that, I like what you guys are doing. Cheers!

Early Times BiB at 5????? For me that juice is THE top bottom shelf bourbon. Personally I don’t get much of a difference between the new and old juice.
Interesting. I will have to do a side by side.
four roses over WT101 lol...?
Based on vote count. In WT101's defense, I combined the SmB, SiB, and SmB Select votes since some people were very specific.
@@BourbonRealTalk Gotcha. What about buffalo trace/eagle rare? Are those considered allocated where ya'll live?
@@FlameUrPKZ It depends on your definition of "allocated". If you mean hard to find, store limit's the number of bottles, etc then yes. Although, anyone willing to put in even the slightest amount of effort could bet both 3-4 times a year. Nothing like other "allocated". Some stores even put BT and ER on shelves. Most of the bottles I would consider allocated never get put out. They are hidden in the back office.
Four Roses Small Batch is good. Four Roses base is just too bland in my opinion.
I tend to agree. 80 proof is just too light for my palate.

BT is Benchmark, but it is harder to find, it is at a lower proof, and it cost more money, so I always recommend Benchmark and not BT.

For the most part yes.
