Now Dixie girl, all these years I have followed your adventures, you darn well know the easy way down is not where the epic views and adventure are found. LOL... Another great video, thank you.
Love your videos. They’re always so real. Never feel like I’ve wasted my time (as compared to some other sites I follow, for reasons I can’t explain even to myself). I’ll never be the hiker you are, but you’ve inspired me to do some day hikes.
No other RUclips hiker makes a video as artistic as you do. Between documenting the hike, showing the local flora and close ups of all your “critters” and integrating the gorgeous music you choose, it is an intensely pleasurable experience to watch and listen to your videos.
I LOVE the Wellies song. Used to sing it before all of our soccer games as a kid, now I've taught my own kids and make THEM sing it before soccer games 😂
As a few people have said already. It was actually watching your videos that showed a load of us all how to do it. Pitching tents, hiking, packing our backpacks! This is fantastic watching you now on The West Highland Way here in Scotland. Hope you are having a great time.
The subtle musical transition that begins at 11:14 and then blossoms into "The Bonnie Banks of Lock Lomond" as you arrive on the banks of Lock Lomond at 11:38 with the sound of the waves in the background is a magnificent piece of sound editing and storytelling. Well done.
The West Highland Way was the first through hike I ever did - after learning / following your videos! So glad you got to experience the beauty of the highlands 🍀
My oh my, doing it when 6 months pregnant! Congrats on both scores! Since doing the WHW myself in July (solo), I've watched a lot of vids, but yours is top class & so B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L. and your drone footage, set to gorgeous music, is superb. You're people after my own heart with time to stop & observe nature, its flora and fauna; time to chat to others en route; time to really savour the journey, not hell bent on getting there as quickly as possible, as others seem to be. I had a taxi booked for 5.30pm at Rowardennan to take me back to Balmaha, on my Day 2. I didn't get there till 7pm!! I'm excited to carry on with the rest of your videos but it's 00.45 hours!!
Retired ER nurse here. I'm glad to see that you and your husband are getting to hike the West Highland Way. We spent some time on the Isle of Skye and Fort William 2 years ago and I was thinking you needed to hike this! We hiked the lower 1/3 of the mountain Ben Nevis in Fort William. Consider riding the Harry Potter (Jacobite train) in Fort William. It's worth the experience! We just got back from hiking in the Lake District in NW England. There are lots of hikes around this area. You might consider this for the future. Beautiful just like Scotland( scenic and lots of flowers). Less sheep though. Have fun. Be safe. Congratulations on the baby and marriage.
@wcamericanmade9828 - ...ahem!... This proud member of the Haggis Wildlife Foundation begs to differ! ... m.ruclips.net/video/zCnQ0ash7As/видео.html&pp=ygUGSGFnZ2lz 🤭🤭🤭😉
Haha, I ended up on my bum on Conic Hill as well. All part of the experience. Those stairs do look treacherous, but what was there before was worse. ❤❤❤
Hi I have enjoyed watching your first two videos and I am looking forward to watching the rest. Having done the West Highland Way five times I know that your toughest day is tomorrow. You also made me laugh coming down Conic Hill because I have never seen anybody come down that way before. 😂😊
The view of Loc Lomond was gorgeous! Thanks for including its tune. I enjoy having Rodney alongside you on the hike. What a beautiful thing to share together.
The vista of Loch Lomand was brilliant! I stopped the vid, full screened it on the XL monitor in my office & called my hiking partner / spouse to appreciate it too. "Looks Foggy," he says. "Of course it is. It's Scotland. A sunny day is rare." Hope the wee one is enjoying the adventure & the husband too.
Loving watching this series as someone who found your videos researching long hikes before my first attempt of the WHW. I'm a Scottish hiker and managed the WHW on my second attempt (my friend got injured on our first attempt). I see Scotland is giving you the true Scottish hiking experience of all weathers when up the mountain in the middle of nowhere 😅
Oh, that is a special four-leaf clover! There are little glass circle necklaces on a gold chair and you can get one to put your clover in, so you can wear it always. That's love!
Glad you got at least a bit of sun! You are doing well with the pronunciations (and subtitles) too 😁. It's so interesting to see your outside perspective on a place that is so familiar to me, please keep telling us your thoughts on your trip! Hoping your pain eases up too 💞
Did this path two years ago, it's beautiful. The midges did completely eat me up though, mostly the night I camped by the shores of Loch Lomond and didn't have any smidge yet. Definitely need to get around to doing more trails in Scotland.
OOoh I have those exact same compression socks! LOL Rodney appears to be having a good time despite the rain and steep slippery hills. I know it's old hat for you, but a bit of a baptism by fire for a newbie!
I had haggis with every breakfast while I was in Edinburgh. LOVED IT! Disappointed not to be able to get the real thing in the US. Hiked up to the summit of King Arthur’s seat every day I was there, because I’m a hiker, 😉 and visited Loch Lomond. I got my drone license before I went to Scotland, and did a legal flight over the water. Awesome experience. Loving your adventures. Thanks!
As a born and bred scotsman, lover of the outdoors, camping and long-distance walking, I am delighted you are enjoying the WHW. I’m very sorry though that you had to endure Scotland at its most accurate. We’re a funny bunch … and our pies-at-every-stop sums us up completely. Try Glen Affric if you can.
finally a video where i can relate to of the west highland way haha! This weather is no joke and still making the effort to film is much appreciated ! Praying for some sunshine for you on the highlands :)
I did the WHW in 1989 wild camping as a kid. Moved to the Highlands as soon as possible after that and have been running and rock climbing in the hills ever since. Sometimes it takes an 'outsider' to remind you how special the Highlands are and your video has definitely done that. Thanks Dolly! 😂
As as person who has lived in both the British Isles and the American South, midges are the same as no-see-ums. Also, kudos to to your editor (Aaron/Erin, not sure how to spell your name) - I appreciate your choice of music - "red is the rose" made me tear up! I am so thrilled to see Rodney on the trail with you again, Dixie! I love that you realized the a pregnant woman can do anything that a non-pregnant woman can do, you WILL have an easier delivery because you didn't let your muscles deteriorate.
This video made me feel so many emotions. The joy. The fear. The excitement. The cuteness. The laughs! The laughs win it for me. I'm so glad you made it down that mountain safely. I was gritting my teeth til you made it down. Felt like I got to experience this myself :D They sell belly belts that help.
Haha, Billy Connolly's Wellies song! Blast from the past 😁 Welcome tae summer in Scotland! If it's no rainin the midges are devouring ye! If yer reeeeally (un)lucky it's raining AND midges are devouring ye! 😉☔🦟
Hey Jessica, Rodney is like my sister, I can spend hours and days looking for a fourleaf clover and not find one. She can look for five minutes and find several. We've given her the nickname "Lucky Lepracaun"😂
All of my father’s great grandparents were born in Scotland so I have strong roots there. I spent a month exploring Scotland on my motorcycle back in 2015 and absolutely loved it. I could’ve stayed forever. The people were incredible, the scenery was spectacular, and the food, contrary to reputation was really quite awesome. I’d loved staying in the inns and pubs. I particularly enjoyed the haggis which to me was very much like a well seasoned turkey stuffing, rather than being based on cornbread or rice like we usually see, it was based on whole oats. And then there was the scotch… I’ll leave it at that. By the way, I’m still waiting to hear the pipes :-). I really envy you.
Mr.&Mrs.😉 Ty for bringing trails view I’ve not seen yet, I’ve watch many ,the reason ,it’s my plan to walk this next year. Dixie, you got me walking since you and your sister did the Camino. Hope to follow ya again 👍😇🇺🇸
Beautiful video. I’m excited about this series. We spent some time in Edinburgh, Scotland, several years ago and loved it. Wonderful people and stunning scenery. I didn’t care for haggis. Even more so once I found out what was in it. I have a slight Nessie obsession, so getting out on a boat on Loch Ness and exploring a castle on its bank was a highlight. (Nessie was shy, so she didn’t make an appearance.) Your video makes me want to return and go hiking. Best wishes for upcoming hikes and your future baby hiker. ❤
Did this last August & love love loved it. Everyone warned me about the midges but somehow only got hit by a cloud once the entire time. Stopped for a snack near a pond and they came a-flyin' to where I had to move on lest I eat them all.
Gosh! Taking the steep way down Conic Hill was rather … mmm, let me think … brave. When I walked the Way, in 1989, there was a stile somewhere below Conic Hill - I stepped off it too hard and got a stress fracture in my foot. Happily, I still finished the Way. Good luck on the rest of your journey.
Pretty sure the bird at 4:21 is a Skylark - from the slight raised crest on its head. I remember being in California and the weird feeling where every bird I saw (bar introduced sparrows) was new and had to be looked up. I'm sure you've been warned, but we have ticks in the UK, and they carry Lyme disease (and half a dozen rare ones). Please be wary - especially since you're carrying the next generation of great hikers with you.
There are (head) nets from widely available brands like Sea to Summit or Coghlans that can keep even midges/no-see-ums out. But yeah, it requires the versions with finer netting that are usually intended for the tropics, with about 1500-2000 holes per square inch instead of the 300-500 holes for regular mosquito and fly nets. Well, I took exactly the same route up AND down when I was hiking the Conic Hill day walk last April. Down I went backwards. Was much easier than forwards.
The fact you put in subtitles for the girl with the Yorkshire accent has me chuckling 😂😂 I’ve been watching since the Appalachian trail days and it’s always been a dream on mine to do a longer distance trail in the United States so it’s cool to see you hike a trail that I’ve done and that’s closer to home for Me.
Just a thought for you...9:30 you were talking about how unpleasant it was going down the slippery steps. The shoes you are wearing seem to be pretty standard (Lone Peak?) trail shoes. I use different shoes depending on trail/weather conditions, and when it's likely to be slippery I wear approach shoes with a Vibram sole. They are s-t-i-c-k-y even in downpours.
Hers is the Topo Athletic Terraventure 4 and it has a Vibram sole. I don’t think they slipped, but the way the steps are slanted and how steep it is it was nerve-racking going down with all the water. If you fall it might be hard to stop
We did our best with the subtitles
It's hard to believe you were all speaking the same language!
Now Dixie girl, all these years I have followed your adventures, you darn well know the easy way down is not where the epic views and adventure are found. LOL... Another great video, thank you.
I couldn’t understand a word they said. Lol. However, I do understand Southern. Miss Dolly.
Love your videos. They’re always so real. Never feel like I’ve wasted my time (as compared to some other sites I follow, for reasons I can’t explain even to myself). I’ll never be the hiker you are, but you’ve inspired me to do some day hikes.
lol som...ehtimes u jus need to sit at the peak in the rain alf hour then you get the sun an views you went for
When you are unsure if you've encountered the midges, you have NOT encountered the midges.

Aaron does all her editing and is a master 🥰
@@robhayden5515 thank you so much!!
Lol, the end with Billy Connolly singing the Wellies song. 🤣 Great comedian & Scotsman.
I LOVE the Wellies song. Used to sing it before all of our soccer games as a kid, now I've taught my own kids and make THEM sing it before soccer games 😂
Excellent music choices!

LOL. I’ve seen you scoop water out of cow ponds but never seen you attacked by a Scottish Water Dispenser
😂 It got me for real
This was my first long distance hike and I did it because I was inspired by you. Wonderful to see it through your eyes.
The West Highland Way was the first through hike I ever did - after learning / following your videos! So glad you got to experience the beauty of the highlands 🍀

this is your most fun series. the music, the food and all the random things. love it.
Gold Star to Aaron for finding that welly song to use at the end!
Bless you the first video you could see you were both so tired, this one you both came back to life. Really looking forward to watching your journey
Jet lag is real! Lol
Rain and clag, Dixie, then sun - 7 seasons in 1 day. Welcome to Scotland! Thanks for uploading. 🏴 🏔👍
Very impressed with your accurate pronunciations! Well done! Very rearely do we hear Americans attempting this and you're smashing it!
My grandfather came from Scotland and I can remember him singing about ‘The Bonnie Banks o’ Loch Lomond'..
Retired ER nurse here. I'm glad to see that you and your husband are getting to hike the West Highland Way. You and Rodney poking fun at each other is so adorable!
Of all the animals to be bit by, I was not expecting a duck!
Aaron did a masterful job with your footage.
Glad to see you guys doing this together. Making memories. Many more to come!
The Scottish are trolling you so hard😂 haggis is just food, asking if you've seen one is like asking If you've seen a snipe 😂
@wcamericanmade9828 - ...ahem!... This proud member of the Haggis Wildlife Foundation begs to differ! ... m.ruclips.net/video/zCnQ0ash7As/видео.html&pp=ygUGSGFnZ2lz
🤭🤭🤭😉
10:24 Wild caught Haggis......LOL
Except that snipe do actually exist.
Seen plenty snipe, so I’m not sure what you mean. Dixie is perhaps in-on Scotland’s favourite food related joke?
Well, y'all look like you're having a grand time together despite the challenges! What a gorgeous place!
Haha, I ended up on my bum on Conic Hill as well. All part of the experience. Those stairs do look treacherous, but what was there before was worse. ❤❤❤
Apparently several other people we met did too!
Hi I have enjoyed watching your first two videos and I am looking forward to watching the rest. Having done the West Highland Way five times I know that your toughest day is tomorrow. You also made me laugh coming down Conic Hill because I have never seen anybody come down that way before. 😂😊

"Dolly Parton!" Love it! My co-worker is going there in a week. I am so jealous!!! Thanks for sharing the fun and beauty!!! The best! Happy hiking!!!
Such beautiful views. Be safe and have a good time. 🤩

Outstanding! Another one to add to my "I have to do that someday" list. Thank you Dixie and Rodney!
Love seeing you and your husband adventuring!

Now you need a soundtrack for Boot Scootin Boogie with bagpipes. 😅
I did the WHW in 1989 wild camping as a kid. Moved to the Highlands as soon as possible after that and have been running and rock climbing in the hills ever since.

My first long hike back in 2010; so many fond memories!
Just catching up with WHW trip, so amazing, and great videos! Wow! Amazing hike, and love to see you all three on the trail :)

Loved every minute of your hike. Stay safe Dixie (and Rodney). Finding that four leaf clover is a good omen.
The rain looks wonderful from here in the desert! Lol
I cracked up when he kept asking you to repeat what you said, then she would talk over him, then he finally said you sound like Dolly! Funny stuff.
Coming down the mountain… That was “Butt stupid” lol 😂.
Also talking to folks, thank you for putting in the English translation … 😅
Hey Jessica, Rodney is like my sister, I can spend hours and days looking for a fourleaf clover and not find one. She can look for five minutes and find several. We've given her the nickname "Lucky Lepracaun"😂
Wonderful and great soundtrack!
Wow...going down that hill! Take care. Happy trails! 👣
Loving the West Highland Way. Thanks for dragging us along. I’m jealous
Beautiful views. Thanx.

That was quite the descent...! 😬 And a big thumbs up for the Welly Boot Song at the end! It was one of my favourite songs as a kid 😂
Looks like an adventure. Who knew Scotland had a rainforest?
That was a good video…..thoroughly enjoyed it…..nice Rodney was animated too.
Mr.&Mrs.😉 Ty for bringing trails view I’ve not seen yet, I’ve watch many ,the reason ,it’s my plan to walk this next year.
Dixie, you got me walking since you and your sister did the Camino. Hope to follow ya again 👍😇🇺🇸
great video, thanks Already done WHW twice and I am inspired to do it a third time.
I did the WHW with my wife last year. Same t
Route so far. Loving the videos, bringing back memories.
love this.. the hike, scenery, conversations, the ducks lol

We took the same path down in 2019. It was an adventure... At least we had beautifull weather.
Did this last August & love love loved it. Everyone warned me about the midges but somehow only got hit by a cloud once the entire time. Stopped for a snack near a pond and they came a-flyin' to where I had to move on lest I eat them all.
It's great to see you guys up in Scotland. And thanks for the Welly Song at the end. Not heard it since I was a kid yet still knew all the words!
So happy watching you hike. ❤
Happy to hear Simple Minds!😊
Oh my gosh, I can not even figure out what path you went down. Glad you made it safely!
Great video as usual, your choice of music has been fantastic. Well done.
Holy Crap! Glad you made it out ok!
y'all may have the four leaf clover, but WE were the LUCKY ones with this vid! what beauty....and not just our Dixie mommy
Pretty sure the bird at 4:21 is a Skylark - from the slight raised crest on its head. I remember being in California and the weird feeling where every bird I saw (bar introduced sparrows) was new and had to be looked up.

Ok, I just have to go to Scotland now and hike. Beautiful views, wow incredible video!!! Thanks Dixie!!
- Shybee
Nice video.. thanks for sharing
Brilliant music choice
Excellent thank you
Oh, I really enjoyed that!
Very interesting trail. Always enjoy you video.
Bobby
When you are unsure if you've encountered the midges, you have NOT encountered the midges
Hey ya'll Dolly here😂, that path off Conic hill was far worse before the erosion control, enjoy Scotland
eek!, never leave the path in scotland, the terrain is leg breaking or bogs, and quite often both.
*Sooo* nervous the whole time watchin you butt-scootin! Glad Rodney found that 4-leaf clover to protect you!
A little reduced visibility and breathability, but better protection. And the one I have is also lighter weight.
That detour…you two give me heart palpitations! 😂
Well, I took exactly the same route up AND down when I was hiking the Conic Hill day walk last April. Down I went backwards. Was much easier than forwards.
Just got back from the Scottish Highlands this past weekend. Hope you got out to Skye, which was the best part of our trip.
That is a great compliment saying you sound just like Miss Dolly Parton!
Weather in Scotland (or Ireland): 4 seasons in a day, especially the 'higher' you go
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Looks fun!!
The fact you put in subtitles for the girl with the Yorkshire accent has me chuckling 😂😂 I’ve been watching since the Appalachian trail days and it’s always been a dream on mine to do a longer distance trail in the United States so it’s cool to see you hike a trail that I’ve done and that’s closer to home for
Me.
Hoping to do this next year!
Ha! I find 4 leaf clovers all the time. See you don’t find them if you aren’t looking in the first place! Great minds see the pattern changes. 😆🍀
That was an epic butt scoot! 😂
Stunning!!!!!!!!
