Thank you my friend for visiting my home and for having me on your channel with your amazing subscribers and viewers. I'm humbled and honored that you have taken the time to tell a story that is central to my experience.
Absolutely spellbinding. Thank you for filming, editing and sharing this amazing story. And to Thom for sharing what are obviously such important moments in his life with us.
What a fantastic interview - I stumbled across Thom Pollard's channel while looking for info after the discovery of Irvine's boot, and was just so impressed with his integrity, not just for being a part of the discovery of Mallory, but for being the beating heart of that party, showing his sense of great empathy toward a man who had been lost for so long, a man that was as real and filled with the same allure for Everest as all who came after him. So it was truly fascinating to see Thom interviewed like this - this guy is 100% the real deal, a true soul who is quite literally the wise & heartfelt man of the mountain...then, to have the interview close with the discovery of Irvine's boot and Thom saying "never say never", it's all come full circle in the most serendipitous way...has Thom really hung his boots up afterall, lol? He's the embodiment of living history - thankyou for such a great interview!
Wow, I’m blown away…. I’ve ignored the interviews with Thom thus far because I just wasn’t interested in who was doing the interview. Now, I know exactly why I’ve waited so long. Thank you Darwin, I never expected this from you, but I definitely want more.
Great job Darwin, this is awesome content, well done! I’ve always been enamored with this Everest mystery and the recent discovery of Sandy Irvine is incredible. Crazy that both Conrad Anker and Jimmy Chin, both close friends and climbing partners, respectively discovered the two climbers remains.
I love Everest Mystery as a chanel. I love listening to this Legends stories and his take on climbing and life. Such an incredible piece. Thank you Guys for sharing this.
Thank You! I love telling stories like this in more of a Documentary Film format. They take quite a bit of time, but super rewarding creatively. Now... if only RUclips will actually allow people to see it 🤷♂️
Thanks for this Darwin, excellent stuff. To think I met you in Switzerland in July doing the TMB and now you’re interviewing Thom who “met” the one and only George Mallory! It’s my link to mountaineering mythology, Thanks again Darwin. Good luck in getting future interviews like this . Who knows we may bump into each other at Everest Base Camp!
I love Thom's RUclips channel and have been watching with great interest since Jimmy Chin's team found Sandy's foot. I highly recommend the book about Sandy's life written by his grand niece.
Great video!! I was gifted the book "The Lost Explorer: Finding Mallory" while working in Colorado. It was signed by Conrad Anker. I have read many books on climbing, but that one i really have a connection with every time i read it. I was raised and live in new england, and have hiked many mnts in the area. It's good to see someone from the area who has a connection with the search. I really hope there's more parts coming.
I live right beside the AT in Virginia next to dismal falls, I've watched about every video about Everest, and very familiar with Thoms story, if he is wanting you to go with him there, then you have an opportunity for immortality being apart of Everest history, take it a run.
Great interview! I can't wait to see this play out, I hope you find the camera! I did the EBC trek in 2018 and can say without a doubt, it was one of the most transformative experiences of my life. I encourage everyone to go. There is more natural beauty there than anywhere else I've ever been. Thanks for the content!
I have never heard about this story . all i can say is this is so cool and meeting the person who helped uncover this amazing story. thank you for sharing Darwin
Nope… they recently found Irvine’s foot. This video is about finding Mallory’s body in 1999. It helps if you watch the video before leaving a comment that makes you look silly 😉
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it. This is the style of video I love doing over anything else. Too bad the algorithm doesn’t want to show it to the majority of folks that are subscribed. Not “click baity” enough & not about Gear 😅
@DarwinOnthetrail Not a fan of the algorithm. Organic growth could knock this one out of the park! Will be watching it again. Thank you always for your videos on the Pinhoti Trail. You had a significant impact on the number of hikers seen along this trail I love so much! #PinhotiForever
Unfortunately that's not how it works anymore. Organic growth has sadly become a thing of the past. If it's not flashy enough for the algorithm to show it, then it doesn't happen. Sad, but true
I love this so much! I don't think that anyone has inspired tge adventurer in me quite as much as Mallory and Irvine. I bought the book, "Ghosts Of Everest" sight unseen and I was transfixed with Everest forever.
Very well done interview Darwin. The topic is right up my alley, being an outdoor enthusiast. Thanks for bringing us into his home and hearing an authentic tale. I’m been following Everest news and adventures since 1996 and I never say never.
Wow! Great interview with Thom. I cant imagine a bad one, though. I love his you tube channel and have been binge watching him. Thank you. I just subscribed to your channel also!
This stuff is good…. I just love this video and an overview on his life and direction. Excellent

Great video ❤ great man 👍🏼 I feel that it was good that he didn't go and forces himself ... god knows what could happen if ignoring signs to stop and turn around. You did everything right 🍻
Fascinating well made video Darwin, i enjoyed every minute. What a true gentleman Thom Pollard is. Loved the "ending" of the video, or is it the "beginning" ? 🦅⚪✴️
Don’t forget to read “The Climb” after “Into Thin Air”. It’s another account of the tragic climb, but told by Anotoli Boukreeve. He was a Mountain Guide who helped rescue people that day. Very good and quite different than Krakauers account.
I was so excited to see that you were covering this. Amazing interview. His description of the moments of the discovery was priceless. I'd love to see more on the history of mountaineers
Since i have been hiking and minor stints into backpacking with my own adventure postponed to next summer, I am attempting my own thru hike of the JMT (an area i have loved since my first trip to Yosemite)I have followed many trips through RUclips, Discovery and other documentaries about Everest. Though I have no intentions of going to the Top of The World, I, however, do have a desire to go EBC and stand in awe of the many who have paved the way to ultimate climb in any adventures dream.
Wow - just Wow. History is so exciting! Have always been in awe of M & I. God rest their souls. Safe travels & hoping for safe climbing/travels to you all. Thx for this video‼️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I remember the discovery of Mallory and went to an exhibition of the artefacts and some other Mallory/Irvine memorabilia, along with a showing of an IMax film about Everest. It was really big news at the time.
The expression about the "the hill you're willing to die on" is often used in a negative way. ...as in this is, not that hill. If ever there was one, Everest would be it. Great topic and documentary, Darwin. Can't wait to see what's next, cheers! 🍻
Reminds me of a guy who was trying to break the record for the longest dirt bike jump, I get the appeal to do big things but when you have little kids you can’t be trying to do things that have a high likelihood of death. My two cents anyway, and great video Darwin.
Love all your videos but especially love this format! Also, does this mean you're going with him to search??! Would be all over that but also do what's best for you
I absolutely love documentarians they bring to life what you didn’t know on film That’s all I want is documentaries I don’t want to watch TV. I want to knowledge.
I think more information could have been found on mallory's body by someone with more medical expertise. Was the approximate area also searched with the metal detector?
I want a quilt not full of down but synthetic fibers as I hate the thought of sleeping in dead animal products , I need it to go at least -5 celsius. I found out today some bags use what they call live bird feathers. This means the poor animal was plucked while it was alive then continued to live till it was fat enough to killed be eaten. I don’t want this on my conscious, and apparently many bags and quilts use these fathers. No cool no good. So man use your knowledge and support animal free products and recommend what I can buy. I am sure all reading this now will want an alternative regardless of price.
So I guess every hiking channel is just becoming a "mystery" channel now? I'm begging you Darwin, please don't go down the same rabbit hole kyle and dan becker have gone down
I’m not going down any “rabbit hole”. I’m making content about things I find interesting & that inspire me creativity. The same thing I’ve done for the past 9 years on RUclips.

I will not watch this entire video -- boring interview with no proof he achieved the summit. How do I know this? Because it would have been in the lead. It would have made international headlines. This is a sham to cover expenses and for a tax write-off.

Is that the guy that took Mallory's pants and underwear?
Wait... did they verify???
I knew the writings on the boot were pretty much cement....
Has it been verified?? And did they find the camera??
reading the title, my first thought was "is he alive?" :)
Yeah, I’m just starting the video but I’m assuming they found a corpse.
Theory on where is Mallory’s left boot ?
So, when are you and Thom leaving?

I read they should have looked for stones in Mallory’s pocket.
They did search the pockets and found other things - if there were Rocks they would have found them
Exactly 100 years! What 75 years? Cant you count
75 years is how long Mallory was lost before being discovered in 1999. From 1924-1999. Can’t YOU count???
Is he alright?!?
