    I’m a WHW veteran, walked it 4 or 5 times now. I’ve watched so many film clips of those who have walked the WHW & I have to say, your video was by far the best I’ve seen. Well done you Jennifer. You’re passion, photographs, filming and commentary are amazing. Thank you 🙏🏻

      Oh wow that’s so sweet of you to say! That makes me so happy you’ve made my day 😁 and that’s so impressive, I’d love to hike it that many times, hopefully one day I will. It’s one of my favourite trails.

    I love this. Minimal narrative, poetic and beautiful images showing the route and its features, picking out lovely details and lots of POV shots of the path, evocative music, and no talking into the camera constantly filming yourself talking. You get across the feel and atmosphere of the walk and the joy of walking in silence.

    • @Orenjen
      @Orenjen  11 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you, I’m so glad you think so! I never (if ever, very rarely) film myself on the camera as I’d rather show the area around me, that and I suppose I’m not confident enough to be on camera constantly like some RUclipsrs 😂 there’s not a lot of dialogue in this video, and that’s the case in some of my others, however the most recent ones I do chat a lot 😂 but all the while showing my surroundings

    I walked the WHW 30 years ago and I can confirm - the memories really do stay with you. Must say your photography is beautiful, and the narration with your thoughts and feelings about the landscape make me want to do it all over again.

    Thank you so much for this wonderful journey you took us on. I live near Loch Lomond, and I have done various parts of the walk at different times in my life, but never the whole journey. Now I am a disabled wheelchair user who misses these grounding journeys, you gave me great joy, peace and pride "walking with you". Thank you for loving oor wee country as much as we do. Haste ye back lassie (come back soon in Scots). Sending love from Scotland. 💙

      Wow thank you so much, I'm so glad you found this helpful! Best of luck with it in August, prepare for the midges! I'd recommend either bog myrtle lotion or Avon skin so soft, they tent to repell them a little. And to be safe probably a midge hat too! I'd definitely bring a water filter, just a small one like the Sawyer Mini and you can drink from any stream, saves you the risk of becoming ill from any parasites that may be in the water from dead sheep upstream!

    I walked the way from milngavie to Fort William and a couple of years later from Fort William to Milngavie but never saw it properly ( especially along the side of Loch Lomond ) until I watched your video. You have shown it in a most beautiful, poetic and artistic way. If my knees would allow it I would do it again . I was born and have lived my life in Scotland a short drive from Milngavie . I have travelled in Europe and Asia but Scotland is still my favourite place and you have captured its Celtic essence in your wonderful video.

      Would definitely recommend the Ridgeway. I would say that there is probably more to see around the Avebury end of the trail rather than the other way. But having said that it is a good walk nonetheless!
      The Formartine and Buchan Way is probably not as challenging as some of the ones you have done but still a nice wee jaunt in the countryside. It’s local to me so easy accessible and I did it in stages, but again a nice one for beginners/something different. :)

    I just completed the trail myself and miss waking up and walking it. Mine was a very different experience though haha hiking it at the end of September. Still despite the hardships of camping in the bad weather I loved it and hiking it over 10 days is a great idea. I did it in seven and also filmed it and will soon start editing my own video of the WHW.

      What a lovely comment thank you so much! That makes me so happy, it means a lot.
      You’re going to absolutely love the WHW! June is such a lovely month to hike it in too. The midges might be out that time of year so I recommend repellent and/or midge net hats (Avon Skin So Soft is meant to be an excellent midge repellent!).
      Also, if you plan on wild camping then Scotland is the perfect place for it as it’s allowed and tolerated there. Everywhere on the trail except along Loch Lomond as it’s prohibited in the Summer due to the amount of visitors (but I was discreet and stealthy when I camped there on my second night as there was nowhere else. There are campsites along Loch Lomond if that’s what you’re after). A water filter is useful too if you don’t already have one.
      You’re both going to have such an incredible time! Best of luck ☺️

There were some campsites around, however they were all fully booked as this was right after lockdown restrictions lifted, so I wasn't able to get a place. I just kept well hidden, pitched as it began to get dark, I tucked myself away under shrubbery by the shores of Loch Lomond, didn't use a light once it got dark and barely made a sound, it was a pretty tense night! Hi, for this I actually filmed on my iPhone as this was before I got a camera for my videos! On my other videos I use a GoPro Hero 7 White, but I’ve very recently upgraded to a GoPro Hero 11 Black (which films in 4K like this video).
      For either using my phone or GoPro, I bring a couple high capacity power banks with me to charge my devices and seems to work fine!
      The power banks do add some weight to my bag, but worth it. I’d bring two fully charged 36000mAh capacity power banks with me for this one, as I find that one full charge lasts me 3 or so days for both my phone & GoPro, and I can charge it at rest stops when available.
      I hope this helps, I hope you and your son have an incredible journey!

    • @Orenjen
      @Orenjen  4 месяца назад

      Hi, thank you! And omg that sounds incredible! What a feat. That’s got to be around 330 miles, how long are you planning to do it for?
      My main tips would be packing as light as possible, a heavy pack that might feel fine on level terrain can be hellish on those inclines! Only bring what you absolutely need.
      If you don’t have a water filter I 10000% recommend one (sawyer mini is perfect for me!)
      And always tell someone your route and approx days you’ll reach each place! God forbid something happens, in the worst case scenario it’ll help S&R.
      Make sure you have comfortable shoes and blister plasters, plenty of compeed will save your feet! I also recommend ipobrifen/nurofen express when the back, shoulders & feet start to really ache (always take anti inflammatories once you’ve eaten or with food, as on an empty stomach they can damage your stomach lining & make you sick).
      Keeping your feet dry is the best way to avoid blisters! Blisters form with friction on damp/wet feet. I always take my shoes & socks off when I take a break to air my feet, and give them a massage too it will do wonders for aching feet! Especially at the end of each day.
      Also, bring some sweets or chocolate, something sugary for when your sugar levels are low from all the energy you’ll be using. Sometimes on the trail when I haven’t eaten in a good few hours I’ll feel woozy & shaky, once I have some bits of fudge it perks me right up & gives me the energy to continue.
      And when you’re feeling low, as you might do while on the trail, just think, a bad day on the trail is better than a good day in the cities!
      Feel free to ask anything if you have any more questions, I’ve hiked both the WHW and Great Glen Way, and the JOGT is on my list!
      Best of luck!
