sometimes artists don’t write they’re songs and i think it’s ok (ex: Rihanna ✨ don’t write most of her songs) Some musicians are good performers and don’t write well and that good as long as they don’t pretend to write all their songs (like Drake 😣)

XS is her speaking in first person whilst mocking people's ideas of success. Shitting on materialism and capitalism, basically.
STFU is about the sleuth of stereotypes / micro-aggressions that people (mostly men) pin on women of color.
Comme Des Garçons ( Like The Boys ) is her poking fun at men and the toxic way they carry themselves, successful or not. It's also named after a clothing store for women, I believe? don't hold me to that, I could be wrong. 😅
this album has LAYERS. ugh, Rina gave us what we needed.

Absolutely. It's telling a story lyrically and sonically. It almost feels spiritual. And the last song Snakeskin brings it all together.
Chosen Family is specifically about being part of the LGBTQ+ community since so many of us are abandoned by our birth families.
And I love that she is supporting every single one of us ❤

YES!!! HELL YES!! We are breaking generational trauma and cycles!!! i have noticed my family specifically my mother’s toxicity and abuse traits and i refuse to let that carry on to my future childern. My children will have a beautiful amazing family and they will NEVER be forced to be someone they’re not. they will never EVER be manipulated or gaslighted or guilt tripped to do AND BELIEVE certain things. They will NEVER be emotionally or mentally abused like i was / still am. and they will be their own individual with their own beliefs and dislikes and likes and opinions. One day i’ll have a beautiful family with my future husband and i won’t let my past or family trauma stop me . 👏🏼

That what I’ve been saying!! Though from what I’ve read from other people, the production and semi-hyperpop aspects might be kinda overwhelming? (even though I think it’s the pretty accessible) But I feel like that’s just a general criticism for any sort of electronic/pop music that usually comes from an older demographic (yes i’m generalising lol). But even if the production isn’t people’s thing I reckon the vocals and lyricism make it an essential pop album. Go Rina!

So happy you listened to this!! One of my favorites releases of the year for sure, but my favorite tracks by far are Dynasty and Snakeskin. I'm a black femme living in the US and that stuff about intergenerational trauma? Of learning forgiveness for your own growth and not letting anger consume you? I gravitate most to the songs with the most personally relatable lyrics and those get me every time! Thanks for posting!!
