Is this $100 21.5" iMac 2011 still any good in 2021?
This is a question I get asked all the time. And my answer is always, "It depends." It really does depend on what you want to do with it. You can't use this model for video editing or gaming, but if you just need something that will let you browse the internet and type up documents, then it's perfect!

where to get one shipped to algeria
Very good question! I have one to spare but the shipping cost to Algeria is more than the iMac itself. Guess I have no better reply. Does someone else have an idea for Islam?
@@OliverHinz do you still have the spare one? Is it more expensive to ship it to Barcelona?
@@vrcld Happy to hear from you. Actually I still have a few more at the moment. The main issue is usually, that Switzerland is not within the EU and therefore shipping is a pain. The cost for the iMac is around 75 EUR, but shipping alone is 65 EU. I am sorry for the bad news here.
I get for you
My 2011 21.5" iMac has 2 ssd's and 16gb ram. It's used to run my recording studio and handles it extremely well. One thing I recommend is to open it up, clean it throughly and re apply the thermal paste to the CPU and GPU. Also use thermal pads on the graphics ram. It helps the machine run cooler and seems to be slightly faster too. It will help to prolong its life by protecting those invaluable components
That sounds like an amazing machine! As said, I will get my 27" 2011 this week I guess (20 GB RAM and 256 SSD and 2TB Harddrive). The hint with the Thermalpaste surely makes sense, I will at minimum look into the fan dust bowls. Thanks for taking the time to comment and contribute.
..so it can still run Native Machine, Ableton and other net based sequencers in 2022?
great - but which processor do u have?

Awesome!! I like this kind of video, straight to the point and its short!.. Thank you for sharing this!
I am happy you enjoyed my video and thank you for taking the time to comment it.
Absolutely loved your video! 🌟 Subscribed and ready to dive deeper into your content. Your insights have me convinced, and I'm excited to proceed making a purchase of this iMac. Keep up the fantastic work, and I can't wait to see more from your channel! 🚀💯
Using the same iMac mid 2011, but it seems to be so "obsolete" that softwares cannot be updated. I'm also starting to get errors when visiting certain pages that the time and date is ahead when it's perfectly fine. Location services to sync time don't seem to work anymore.
I bought a mid 2011 iMac27 a couple of years ago, and recently just upgraded the 8GB of ram to the maximum 16GB. The machine is fast even for being a 2011. I could get a new iMac, but don't need all that extra power for the crazy money. I already have an iPad Pro 3gen 12.9 inch and it serves my needs well.
Hey Stratocaster, I am so happy to see the messages of people who also went the way of using what is needed instead of jumping on every faster device out there. Though my Macbook is an M1 I on the opposite use an 1st gen iPad 11. Which Keyboard are you using for the iPad if any?
@@OliverHinz I use the Magic Keyboard by Apple.
Magnetically attaches and is very convenient. Love it!
@@OliverHinz Yeah, I use it for watching movies, RUclips videos, streaming, browsing, online purchases, GarageBand for my guitar playing, guitar Amp applications to edit amplifiers for use on my real amplifiers for my Line6 Spider V60 MKii, and my Vox VT20+, some basis photo editing, and music. So, it is way way more than enough for my everyday usage, and in fact, have noticed that the iMac uses little to none of its ram (usually something like 3-4GB out of the 16 I upgraded to). I wanted it overpowered on the ram as to run everything super fast, which it does. It loads pages, videos instantly. Of course, I have super fast internet @ 500mbps, so it's a perfect match. There's something special in adopting, taking care of an older machine that needs love, and in return gives you all its beautiful performance, saving me several thousand dollars in the name of speed, quicker Performance, and such. Unless you make a living editing ,recording on a professional level, there's really no need for a newer Mac.
I love my 12 year old iMac 27.
@@Strato13 It is amazing to see how you and so many others really see a computer as a tool fulfilling a need or purpose instead if just going for the new thing because it is new. Although I am using newer machines for working on my daily work, I still foster some older machines for pure browsing purpose and they do totally fine. And even if sometimes buying used goes wrong (my last Elgato Keylight Air arrive with a broken Power Adapter, scratched light unit etc.) overall I am happy to make a deal and at the same time help someone else reducing their clutter and putting money into their pocket for other needs. Thank you for taking time to explain your usecase. Have you considered making a video overview of your setup, I think it will be interesting for many?
@@OliverHinz Hello, Happy belated Thanksgiving. :-)
As for a video overview, not so much. I think that anyone who reads my comments, and yours will come to their own conclusion that older machines work just fine for most people.
You will be surprised as to how many great offers I see on second hand seller sites in regards to these older beautiful machines for very reasonable prices.
I already have an iPad Pro gen 3 12.9 with the Apple Magic Keyboard, so that makes it kind of like an updated Macbook Pro (I have three of those, a 13", 15" both mid 2009's , and a 2012 Macbook Air 11", and they all look and run amazing).
You're right as to how people will buy newer Macs just so they have the quickest, fastest processing Mac with 5K video, and such.
But to anyone reading this thread, Old Macs work fine for most everyday use!
Have a great day @Oliver!
when it says to do a system update do i keep saying yes till theres no more updates or not ?
I just bought one of this from a university and im waiting for it to arrive, it will be my first apple computer, it also cost me $100 dollars plus $32 dlls shipping. It was an impulse buy because I was a little drunk 😄 Thanks for your video!
Hey Aham, I think we all had those purchase decisions. I bought a 27“ with no need, but I cannot blame any alcohol. Let me know how it turns out on arrival and thank you for taking the time to comment!
@@OliverHinz Sounds good, thank you!
Hey, I'm new to Macs, can I install photoshop on this macOS high Sierra V 10.13.6???
I have a mid-2011 iMac I bought in 2012 I use for remote work. It's been fine but now shuts off once a day while in sleep mode, usually early morning. It gets REALLY hot too. It's kind of crazy it's still running on an old operating system. I thought it was toast 2 years ago, but still turns on like clockwork every morning and allows me to work. I know it's on its last legs, but the fact we've been through 3+ generations of PC's at work since I bought mine is pretty cool.
Try to clean both intake and air blow vents with a good vacuum cleaner -while it’s turned off of course- and it won’t get hot anymore.
Yeah, you gotta clean it. It's not on its last legs, it just needs to be cleaned. Every computer needs maintenance unless you actually want it to break.
Stick an external SSD on it ( it has thunderbolt 1, so buy a SSD, buy a LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt HDD and swap the drive ), these also take i7 or Xeon Cpus ( Xeons are cheaper ), you can also upgrade the GPU which will allow OS versions up to Monterey. The CPU swap and GPU upgrade are rather involved though.
The LaCie idea sounds nice, I think that would be a great solution for all commentators who “just” have an HDD and swapping to an internal SSD feels intimidating. Thank you for sharing!
I have a 2011 i7 21.5" iMac - I've upgraded to 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD. I run Mavericks because that's the best compromise for old software and newer. I've had the following open at once without stressing the memory or CPU:
Photoshop CS6, Firefox, iTunes 10, Parallels VM (Sierra), and FileMaker Pro, as well as Preview/Console/Activity Monitor/Text Edit/Contacts/Sys Preferences.
Ive upgraded my 2011 21.5in in to a 4GB wx4150 GPU(rx460) GPU, 512GB ssd main hard drive, replaced the dvd with 1TB SSD for Steam, 32GB of Ram, and replaced OSX with Ubuntu LTS in order to get another 8 more years from it. Even picked up a 27in Thunderbolt display to use as a primary monitor because the display was so cheap now days.. $50 USD
Colby… you nailed it. I did not have the need nor patience to do all what you did but it sounds like a great machine for the years to come. Well done!
Iam still using an Imac 21,5 mid 2011 for daily use, he has an 1 Tb ssd and 32 Gb of ram, and it works still great!
which processor does it has?

Can you please advice me how to do basic video editing on the same Imac your using. Seems like I can't even download iMovie. Any tips would appreciated
Hello David, I am sorry for the late reply. It seems I totally lost track of your question. Since I almost don't edit my videos at all and did not use my machine for this purpose, I hope someone watching this video has a better knowledge. I think all software running High Sierra should be able to do so. I am not sure about the needed specs for Da Vinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro. Let me know if you have a solution and I am happy to learn. Thank you for the patience!
Great video! Can I use my Imac (mid 2011) 27" just to surf the internet? What type of browser would you guys recommend me to download since the Mac OS Sierra 10.13.6 is already obsolete and can not be upgraded. I am more concern for viruses while I am surfing. Thanks!
Hey, I am a bit late, happy you have been patient. Chrome for example runs on Sierra 10.13. With a little extra work and Open Patcher even higher versions of the os are possible, but the easy browser solution would probably be Chrome .or Firefox (which I think even goes down to 10.12.) I hope that helps.
Yes, you can :)

I’m looking into getting one, but doing some research to see how the hold up in 2023. I only need it for writing with a word processor (ie; Microsoft Office) do you think it’s capable of doing just that? Writing documents?
I am sorry for the late reply, if you up the OS to a more modern version it will do just fine. I hope that helps.
Just found a deal for two 2012's. Do you have any suggestions or anything? The seller claims they work like any normal computer, After watching i'm convinced i got a good one lol. Do the screens merge together? As like a spread screen?
I am not sure what you mean by merge? I would always look for: screen evenly lit, ward hard drive, Ram is an easy upgrade so nice to have but easy fixed if low amount. What is the reason you want to? If you keep the better one the deal might be more interesting.
Hi Oliver! Thanks for your video. I love this machine. You're right, it's plenty fast! Any advice on how to run Word on it? Or some very similar word processor? High Sierra won't allow installation. Thanks in advance :)
Hi Gabor, I am happy you liked the video. I never crossed that topic, butt I think Open/Libre Office should work. Hope that helps? Have a great day and thank you for the comment!

Hi! Just found one in the dumpster! Works perfectly fine with 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD. Do you think with a RAM upgrade it can run Davinci Resolve?

Run maybe but I am not sure about speed as well.
What processor would it have been? The HDD to work from might also be limiting.

How well could a iMac (late 2011) work with a i7 and 512mb gpu? I want to get own for my daughter to start with some simple things like browsing, text editing and a few simple games.
Hey, I am sorry for missing the comment. I think it will work fine. To my experience, besides starting up it gives a lot of functionality and games out of same era will work too. Be sure to consider to use a little extra cash, to get a newer and longer supported model. Sometimes it is just a few bucks more to jump one or more years.
I just found. 21.5” 254ghz i7, 1 TB for $50. I found your video and was excited to hear it will still work well! I am wondering, the thing I need it for the most is organizing photos and family videos. Will it do this ok? I have thousands of pictures and hundreds of videos I need to organize/cut and produce. With this computer do this fine? I'm already considering upgrading it to 16gb ram. But is there anything also I can do to help with this?
I feel so bad, it seems that I totally missed on your comment and I am not the kind of person liking those things to happen. I hope you went for it, it sounds like an amazing deal to me. For basic photo sorting and light adjustments it should be fine, video editing and exporting thought might be a different ball game. Thank you for passing by and leaving your question. And yes, RAM is the number one help for it, upgrading SSD might be next step or at least getting an external case for thunderbolt2. I will pay more attention to my comment sections from now on.
Hey I just found a 2010 21.5 on marketplace. It has i3 processor. I haven’t used macs generally but i was thinking I could make this my second monitor. Do you think it’s worth it for 80-100$?
I am not sure about your local pricing. I usually do not recommend lower than 2011 and lower than i5 (Quad Core) which in Switzerland usually goes for 70-100 on the cheap end. Initial feeling is a no for me. Hope that helps.
Can I be able to use it for flash animations/Drawing/light gaming and editing? I use Macromedia Flash 2004 on my 5 year old laptop. I’ve been wanting to switch to iMac at least in my $100-$200 budget. And I was looking for 2012-2013 21.5 inch but they’re soo overpriced for no reason in my town and the ones with a fair price are out of town and no card to order online 😅
So all I have left is late 2009-2011
Hey, sorry to hear things are a little hot pricing wise.
What CPU does your Laptop have? That usually gives you a comparison of power. I7 should be a go to CPU and RAM is more important than Harddrive. Are you willing to upgrade some stuff yourself? Thank you for passing by and leaving your question!
Can i install steam or epicgames and play games on it? Or is it just for lite web browsing? What about music making? I love spending my free time making music.
I personally would say web browsing, office stuff. Though I remember seen another user commenting, that he is using it for music too, have a look further down below. I just happened to have a 2012 I5 with Ventura and I plan to see how the installs own the 2011 will go, then I can look also into steam or other things.

Hi Oliver
Looking at maybe purchasing an iMac off marketplace there is one currently for $300aud with following specs
Mid 2011 21.5inch
2.5 GHz intel core i 5
memory 16 GB DDR3
250 SSD hard disc.
super speed due to SSD hard and 16 GB memory.
Is this a good purchase
Hey Shae, does it include any keyboard or mouse? I personally think would buy a device like yours in Switzerland for the given price. I had to invest 40 AUD (calculated) for even less RAM and had a hard drive instead of SSD (which will be worth a couple of AUD too). As usual, assure the OS you need is running and how much work you want to invest into “tricking” the device to run a higher OS than officially supported. Plus I lack experience for the AUD market 😅. Thank you for reaching out and asking!
And have a look at the post from
Jacob further down.
Planning on purchasing one ,would it be good for music production and editing?
I am late with my reply, I am sorry. out of experience. If you have time to wait on tasks, sure it still can handle some workload. But in particular editing takes a toll on the missing “horse power”. Someone commented he is using it for music and it works okay, but that is not my field of expertise. Hope that helps and thank you for passing by.
Just an FYI I still own an iMac Mid-2011 since new and use DAILY in 2022. I added a 1TB SSD and 24GB of RAM 5YEARS AGO!
However, I am in technology and only now I am having real usability issues - not because it works flawlessly and fast for all of my apps - but mostly because compatibility with new software.
I now need to use Docker heavily. Because it you cannot run past High Sierra 10.12.6 and XCode 9.2, it became my first real struggle.
For someone that needs a daily computer for Office, Old Photoshop, run VMs with the older versions of Parallels, and or have 100 browser tabs open while watching a video and working on documents (and more) you will be JUST FINE!
Hey Maverick, when the times comes and the tool does not fit the use case anymore... I know that feeling and yep, the investment in a new device hurts sometimes. I hope you can benefit from a newer machine so it does not feel like a loss but advance payment into productivity. Thank you for passing by and saying hello! Do you plan to get a brand new or just a newer model?
I also have 24G RAM on my 2011, and I just used Open Core to upgrade my OS to Big Sur two days ago.
@@agentadrianne I am looking forward to do that on my new one. How much hustle has it been?
@@OliverHinz It wasn't really difficult. It did take me four tries, but that was because I kept making mistakes. You have to follow his steps exactly.
Also, I learned the hard way that if you DO make a mistake and have to start over, you have to remember to erase and re-format your USB before you start from the beginning again. This mistake cost me two of those four attempts I made.
And also, after you get the OS installed, you need to run Open Core to find out if there are any additional patches you need to install on your system so that your particular machine will run properly. And you need to do this after each time you install an OS update.
But I'm writing this message on my 2011 iMac running Big Sur, and it's fine. Just be patient with the process.
Also, let it run when you first install, because it optimizes your system at first. So it will look frozen at first, but the processes will be running in the background.
I really want to get my hands on a 2011 iMac, not for performance or even browsing the web, but because last year I got a iPod classic. Current I'm taking the music from my discs and putting it onto my Windows PC, but wow would it be way cooler (and feel more "authentic" which I care about for some reason) if I got an iMac.
Just so happens that the 2011 iMac is the last iMac with a disc drive.
I remember that "authentic" feeling too well. I just bought another 21" for just 77 CHF (around 80$, with the newer Apple Keyboard and Apple Mouse.

Nice video! How would it work if I wanted to do graphic designs?
I am by far not an expert on graphic design. I would recommend the following rule of thumb. If you already have a computer, compare the Geekbench CPU and supported graphic scores from an existing machine to the iMac specs available and you get a usable comparison. In addition try to understand your workflow. Are you more working with your mouse or tablet on design or do you use software adjustment your machine has to process and execute?

Hey, if you stick to games from that era, sure it does. Especially if you use High Sierra. Newer games though will be out of question.
Do you recommend this for online work and for browsing?
Hello Ralph, I am sorry for the late reply. Yes, 100%. We use similar models even in our company for blended learning. The only thing to keep in mind is, that High Sierra is the latest official version and others are only available with some "Tweaks". If you have any other questions, just let me know. Thank you for taking the time to comment an passing by.
I got the exact same machine with the same 12Gb upgrade. :)
I have the monitor but not the mouse or keyboard where can I buy ?
I either buy a used iMac which is broken but includes keyboard and mouse. Else every keyboard and mouse work fine for the beginning. I hope that helps. Thank you for passing by and leaving a comment!
I have an iMac 27 Inch mid 2011 intel core i7 of 3.4 Ghz with 16GB memory it has a score of 2900 in multicore
Thinking of buying one for a secondary photoshop work horse, anyone comment on performance for that purpose? (Cheap price £150) 12GB i5 1tb
Hey, not my usual work field, though I can have a look when I pick up the 27” next week and look into some apps. I pin that comment so it gets more visibility. Thank you for commenting!
Thank you, much appreciated.
I still got 2011 iMac and it still works
Hey Yea Lea, I am happy to see another person on this video who is happy with her device. Did you upgrade your iMac in any way? Which software are you mainly using? And thank you for passing by and leaving a comment!
My a1311 was not used for about 4 years, and 3 because apple no longer supported it. I had an old macbook pro laying around (also unsupported), so I threw linux mint on there and was surprised how fast it ran with linux mint. I feel as though it is even faster than my 2 modern computers. Pretty stoked I am getting use out of a 12 year old system.
I ended up using my 15“ over the weekend, since I left my work device accidentally in a restaurant. Still gets the office job done just fine. I never been a Linux guy, but it seems that will be a place to go for one of my 2010 13“. Did you use a distribution and if which one? Thank you for passing by and dropping a comment!
@@OliverHinz I used linux mint, nothing crazy
Is it still good for school and work tasks in 2023 like typing papers essays using word etc
100% to my opinion. Depending on the r macOS you are using you might need to use pages by apple or open office but else you are good to go. Hope that helps and thank you for passing by.
Today, my brother in law just gave me his iMac mid 2011 model, and it's still doing pretty good, considering i am mostly only using Chrome 80% of the time, with 20% of the other being using software like Photoshop and Illustrator to edit images for my online business and then playing WoW most of the time
for such task, the 2011 iMac is still an overkill for doing just that. which i still love because getting new iMac is damn expensive!
Amazing, I am somewhat sad for selling one of my older 2011 iMacs, but I am still on the hunt for another one. I had been surprised by how many people actually are super happy about the performance and overall package. Thank you for passing by and leaving a comment! Did you make any upgrades on it or do you plan to do so?
@@_livekraft i dont play D3 or SC2, but i think it should run it just fine.
Hi thank you for this video bro
Can you tell me how to install ms office on this device ? Os x yosemite
I am so sorry! I am not sure why, but I keep missing comments. Microsoft Office is only supported up to the 2011 version without any security updates. The other option would be using Libre Office. I hope that helps.
@@OliverHinz thx bro
Hey, I love how you give everyone in the comments a response it shows you care about your fans opinions. I would say will I 2011 iMac be sluggish with a 4gb hdd or no? And can I upgrade the OS to Big sur? And will it be good for Roblox.
Hey Carmeline, I often feel I am running late on the reply, but I think it is an important part of being a creator. I always think having enough RAM and just simple tasks like Text, Browsing, RUclips etc. is totally fine and upgrading RAM is the easy step. Sure an SSD is wow, but if you want a simple step one unwound see what the price for RAM is and what tasks are to be done with the iMac. I remember Big Sur is possible with a little „tricks“, but that would be up to „google“ first.
Thank you so much for your time and the comment! Encouraging start of the week
@@OliverHinz i found an old 2011 I3 iMac for a 100 dollars it comes with 4gb and 500 storage I need it for simple video editing and my younger sister would play Minecraft and Roblox. Is it worth getting big sur on it
@@OliverHinz you earned yourself a sub!
I probably root against it, the i3 is significantly slower than the i5. Editing is probably not the field of work, but occasionally and HD max might be working. I suggest to look for a i5 and with more RAM already or look for RAM to buy separate. Does that make sense?
Thank you!
Through facebook marketplace I found a free 5 year old 14 inch lenovo one of the cheaper ones and I found someone yesterday that wanted to to swap their 21.5 imac 2011 with a magic mouse 2 and we did a swap. I really like this computer for the reasons in this video.
Amazing Deal!
@@OliverHinz I am addicted to the deal. My best deals this year were a 27 inch thunderbolt display in perfect condition plus a magic mouse 2 (nearly new) and one of those long wired keyboard for $100 AUS. Also this year I bought two 2009 mac pro computers in perfect condition for $200 AUS and another 2009 mac pro in perfect working condition but the handle got bent in transport for $50 AUS from a lawyer. The 2009 mac paired to an apple 27 inch apple cinema display is a great computer experience. You should buy a mac pro 2009 version and do a video which you upgrade the firmware to 5,1 and put a SSD in the optical bay and if you want to get fancy add a NMVe SSD but you will need a metal graphics card and run a hacked version of macOS Mojave.
Greetings from Australia
@@davidseva6533 I already reached out to get my hands on a 27" 2011, but I think I will see what is possible in the 2009 range. With the 21.5 I try to not get a Core 2 Duo, anything should be fine. Already looking forward to some fun next year. Thank you for reaching out and I keep you updated :)

I just got my mid 2011 27inch with a small hdd as the original failed but it was upgraded to 16gb of ram just gotta watch out for the know failure of the gpu mine works fine running high Sierra I only paid 100 usd for the iMac Magic Mouse and a 20 inch Apple Cinema Display with power supply and dvi to mini display port adaptor so all in 100 usd and I only had to instal the os I think it was a good deal
Awesome, I thought I had a great deal but yours seems to bend the boundaries. Amazing catch. Did you install an SSD?

Hello Joshua, what is the status on your project?
just the beautiful IPS screen on this thing is worth $100. I am seeing one listed locally for $100, and I'm considering getting it just to watch movies in the bedroom
Great device to do so and capable for most of what we throw it on a video watching level!
I have one and it’s working fine
Hey Juan, did you upgrade or SSD?
@@OliverHinz Yes I upgraded to SSD 2560GB in 2018 because the original hard drive it was to slow
Thank you so much. I’m going to buy one and upgrade it by adding a SSD. Regards from 🇨🇷
You are welcome.Thank you for passing by and leaving a comment. Keep me updated how it goes.
By adding an SSD, would it make the Imac astronomically faster or just a bit?
@@RB28th just a bit. It definitely needs a RAM upgrade.
Can I open zoom on it
Is it possible to change from core i2 to i5?
Hello Paul, I never tried it for myself and all I could find online on that matter was basically yelling "a lot of work" and even then not always followed by success. The main issue was often, that the Motherboard had to be flashed etc.. This has been the reason why I usually buy i5 or i7. A 27" i7 will come next week, which I bought for an insane deal as well. Thanks for watching and if you have more questions, just let me know.
Can it run photoshop lightroom and illustrator??
I am not sure if it can, since I did not use the software on my own. I assume though it should be do able, but I am not familiar with the OS demands, some programs do not run on the older Operating Systems any more. What computer are you using right now and which OS?
I still use a 2011 iMac with 8GB ram. It is rock solid.
I am sure about it. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
I’m rock solid
Great video. And if I understood it correctly this machine only has HDD, right? So if you upgrade to SSD it will become even faster.
You are right, no SSD swapped in yet and still impressive as soon as everything is loaded up (thanks to the 12 GB of RAM). Thank you for watching!
@@OliverHinz it will support 32 GB of RAM which is a huge improvement!
I bought the whole computer for 110 $ and added 8 GB for 25 $ more. Actually I was already impressed and really have no use for the extra RAM but for many others that might be good to know.
@@OliverHinz where did u buy it from
@@justmeditate98yearsagoedit23 I bought it used on Ricardo.ch or tutti.ch. It is similar to Craigslist or eBay in other countries. Does that help?
I been offered one of these for £175 and it's been recently upgraded as far as it can go, I was told, is it worth buying Oliver?
Hey Believe, I am not a professional, but I am happy to help and I'm sorry to be late on my reply. Do you have some specs on the iMac? SSD or Harddrive? Ram Configuration? Processor? 21.5 inch Screen?
I know it's 21.5 screen mint condition in box.
What's apps can this model download Oliver?
4GB Ram any good Oliver?
The 4gb should be able to be upgraded to at least 8gb if not 16gb hdd should be able to be upgraded to whatever you want hdd or ssd wise
Great video! First great job with your English. I know it is a very difficult language to master. Second, thank you for adding to the cause. Videos like yours help the average person understand that corporations are creating massive piles of unneeded e-waste by ending the life of their machines too soon and doing so merely for the profit from selling new machines. I already knew the answer to the question in your title, as I watch you on my 2009 iMac with an updated SATA SSD, 8GB RAM, and DosDude1's Catalina patcher. I will say that Apple (much like Chromebooks) are ending life WAY too soon for these machines, They are completely viable as work and play machines, Sure they don't game, but honestly, most gamers have a separate Windows PC for gaming so using an iMac from decades ago is perfectly fine. Especially if you own an iPhone! Apple should support the software upgrades for a longer period of time. In all honesty operating systems have not gotten anymore system intense than they were ten years ago. Most updates today are to the GUI and not the structural software beneath. Windows 11 is still Windows NT underneath. Much like Catalina is still OSX underneath.
Hello Jeremy, I am sorry for being late. I really appreciate the time you took to reply and further more the "what" you said. Me and my fiancé sometimes fall for the shiny object, though all our devices of the last 6+ years are still in use, either in our home, in our parents or other familiy homes etc.. Many of us have a solution for the problem we do not have. That is one of the reasons why many devices I own are second hand (Nomatic Bag, Macbook etc.). Happy to have you in my growing audience. Thank you
I got one for $60. 12 gb ram 2.7 ghz cpu and 2 tb hdd. not bad
That’s great! Even with the HDD, the 12GB will be enough to have a smooth ride when all is started. Thank you for passing by and I am happy you made a great deal like this.
Is 2011 iMac good for Photoshop & Illustrator?
Hello AK, from my experience many of the big companies struggle with support of their newer versions for old OS like High Sierra. I will have a little more time in May to try some of the requested programs and will keep you posted. Thank your for taking the time to comment!
@@OliverHinz Thank you
Yep a cool computer that you can change stuff and not worry about if you were to break it. I just bought one to be delivered Monday for about the same price.
Heck its about a tank full of gas. LOL!
Hey, how have your first days been with your iMac? The „not worry“ part is helpful especially for those who start tweaking things themselves for the first time :) thank you for passing by and commenting!
where did you buy from?
I usually buy the on Craigslist like platforms. In Switzerland we have Ricardo and tutti and I have a saved search which automatically notifies me for certain models and prices. I hope hat helps. Thank you for passing by and leaving a comment!
Can i get one shipped to canada?
I mean, it is surely possible… though I assume the shipping will be equal or more than the price of the device itself. eBay, Craigslist or others are not available in Canada with similar asking prices?
He appreciates what he already has!
Hey Jinko, I try as much as possible to use things as a solution for a problem, instead of just getting it because I can. If I find someone else in even better use, I am happy to pass things over. Thank you for passing by and taking the time to comment on my video!
great video, i just won one on ebay for £5
So will this connect with AirPods?
My bluetooth works without Problem , i have a imac mid 2011 model since day 1... Only updated to high Sierra couple years ago.
My momentum 4 headphones + JBL pulse 5 work without problems..synchronize + enjoy😀
I just use chrome 95% of time. Should i buy this one with i5 2nd gen 4gb ram and 500 hdd? Please answer me.
Should be totally fine. That’s what we did in our restaurants. We just added RAM ourselves. If you have 4GB you can easily upgrade it yourself to 12GB and the startup is a little slow due to the hard drive but after it feels great.
@@OliverHinz i use webflow to develop website. It entirely works on Chrome and a Vector Drawing software called Figma. Will it work good for both?

@@OliverHinz Great! thanks alot for helping.
Don't buy it i used to have it and its ass i had to mash the power button to power it on and i had to wait 10 minutes to start chrome this devicce sucks ass
Extra RAM will not improve performance much, but you should consider changing the old hard drive for a 6Gb/sec SSD for a major speed improvement, it will at least run 5 times faster. Anyway, your old hard drive is probably starting to die, probably has some bad sectors. This probably explains why some applications are so slow to start. Sooner or later, this HD will fail.
Asked the trade in price for my mid-2010 iMac. They said $0. I'll keep it even though I can't upgrade the OS, and internet stuff is happening,. Like I can't see my email anymore. Just ordered the orange 24" iMac. I can still do my graphic and photoshop work on the old one.

To be honest, I did not try but would probably rule it out :) I will install the oldie Diablo 3 and let you know, and that is an old one.
