You forgot South Sea and Tahitian sea water pearls. The Japanese are not the only source of sea water pearls. The others generally have more color variety and they are often not round. One is admired for its flaws. I have a necklace of South Sea pearls that are kind of golden. I forget what they call the shade.
Hello James, thank you for all your videos, I learn so much. I just Purchased my first order of fresh water pearls from China. Getting the business started.
Yor short tutorial was excellent!!!!! One observation …. When you placed the Akoya and FW pearl side by side to see the difference in color and Luster , the white cloth did not allow to see much !!!! You need a different color cloth to be able to see better the contrast and difference … this is only a suggestion..🤔☀️🌎
Good point! We actually had a close up shot but the file got currupted and couldnt include in the video. We do have a close up photo in a link in the description.
I'm still confused as to which pearls to purchase. I've read that the freshwater pearl is more durable as well as cheaper and you can get a gem quality freshwater pearl. However, I love luster and am a mature woman so I would love akoyas.
Hi Kimberly. Usually I recommend buying Akoya pearls if you can afford them because side by side akoya pearls are superior in luster and roundness. However, if feel you arent careful with taking care of pearls and you just want an everyday wear thats you arent worried about, then go with the freshwater pearls. I wouldnt say theyre more durable. Just easier to replace for the cost. If you visit us at KyllonenLuxury.com and type First15, you can get 15% off any purchase. We can also answer anymore more questions you have!
I have sn oval shape pearl I dont know wether its real peall because its strange in shape,I ussuslly see round pearls. Is it possible to have oval pearls?
It was a really good video, and I learned something. This is only a suggestion… I really wish you would’ve showed those pearls on a black background and zoomed in a little closer. Other than that, it was a very good Informative video. Thank you.
Akoya pearls generally cost 5 to 10 times the price of freshwater pearls. Freshwater pearls are usually a few hundred dollars for a good quality vs akoyas are usually 1000+
Thank you so much. I just might be in contact with you in the near future. I know there is a story to these pearls I just need to go back and find out.

Hello: Highly informative - Sir. can you tell me how pearsl, if, pears are dyed. Again, I love pearls thankyou for explaining much. Also, why is it hard to find a pearl in a New York oyster????
Pearls have two distinctive parts for color. You have a body color and you have an orient. For example. White pearls have a white body, but the orient can be pink, green, or pink and green. Dyed pearls often lose their orient or the body color becomes an unnatural color. The more you see pearls the easier it is to tell what is dyed. Gold Pearls are the hardest to tell what are dyed but theyre usually too yellow or too red. There is still a trick to do it. I will show that in a new video.
He have added a link to our blog which has a better photo of luster between the two pearls as well as some additional info. kyllonenluxury.com/blogs/jewelry-and-fashion-guide/akoya-pearls-vs-freshwater-pearls
There is south sea pearl which quality and lustre way better than the pearls you mentioned. Myanmar produce a lot of south sea pearls with great quality and variety colour
It depends on the quality of both. A high end freshwater necklace at a glance can look better than lower end akoya pearls. However, high end akoya pearls will simply be too shiny to not know they are akoya pearls. My suggestion is if you dont have the budget for akoya pearls, then go with a high end freshwater set. A really good freshwater set can even fool a jewelry fanatic.
It's a very complex process. South Sea Gold pearls go through 377 steps to achieve a pearl. It requires a team of biologists and specialized grafters. We might make a video about it. Let us know if you have anymore questions.
Tiffany earrings could be freshwater or japanese akoya. This is most typical for tiffanys if they are a white pearl. If its silver is most likely freshwater. Akoya is most likely with diamonds.
OMG I want to cry. I hate that I'm 1000 miles away from the ocean. My little girl who's sick & fighting for her life loves mermaids & has begged And begged to go hunt for perls & shells & doesn't understand why the water where we live doesn't have things like that. Breaks my heart.
You can buy freshwater pearl mussels and open them herself in her bed. They will send them via mail even. Also bass pro shops sell mussels as well for getting pearls.
Mikimoto sells Akoya, Black Pearls, South Sea White, and South Sea Gold, but no Freshwater. They actually own a separate brand to sell Freshwater called magic by the sea, but the quality isn't up to mikimoto standards.
Black tends to make the pearl look a bit dull at times, where the white you can easily check for yellow or cream color, which is not wanted. However, both work. We actually lost a file that showed the close up.
Here we compared freshwater with akoya because they look so similar. We can do a video comparing Edison to South Sea White. These two look quite similar.
akoya pearls come from japan and the price can differ significantly based on the quality. Some are a couple hundred up to 1000 or so for a top top quality 4mm.
What a failed visual aid... white pearls on-a white cloth & no close ups! It would be more beneficial to viewers like me to learn something like fresh water pearls versus Akoya pearls, when words / lectures are accompanied with clear & sensible visual aids!
The pearls were compared on white background. Please zoom in and use a contrasting background
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That white cloth is actually quite usual to use in the industry
@Ale Noura Narccissitic 😁
My thoughts...so moving out...
Yeah, I agree..why use a white background for a white pearl?
I find this to be very informative. Thank you!
Was thinking the same! Very informative
excellent, thanks for educating me - spent ages this evening looking for an explanation between the two!

Blessings, I would like to know the price cost and difference between the two. Just a rough estimate. Thank you so much for your information and time.

is it possible to have black freshwater pearls?
Black freshwater pearls are real pearls, but the color is not natural. Black freshwater pearls are dyed. Tahitian sea pearls can be naturally black.
I bought pearl frm world gems collection duely mentioning SE 46118, at price 950 batt frm Thiland so is it real frm fresh water or frm sea one ?

Are all Mikimoto pearls, Akoya pearls?

What is a baroque pearl?
Baroque pearls are pearls without a defined shape. They are cheaper because theyre more common, but they can be very lustrous and beautiful as well!
Luv this
why use white cloth underneath to show white-ish pearls….
I want to sell it now
How about South Sea Pearl?
Hi, South Sea Pearls are larger and usually not as shiny as Akoya but high level ones can be quite shiny.
I wasn't able to see the pearl because of white background... Soommmmmm in
I have a pearl that’s kinda flat on the bottom. Is it a fake pearl? The pearls I’ve seen are completely round.
Hi dear, its really peral,it is called bread pearl in china
Thank you
A dark cloth would make the pearls more viable.
I have 9.5kilo south sea pearl.. I'm from Palawan Islands Philippines.
How to check its a real pearl
Hi we have a video on that!

Why he puts pearl on a WHITE blanket? Should use black for more visibility.
Black tends to make the pearl look a bit dull at times, where the white you can easily check for yellow or cream color, which is not wanted. However, both work. We actually lost a file that showed the close up.
I have a sea pearl

This is pretty standard in the pearl industry. Japan they actually often say Milli or mm
