I have a pearl that I inherited from my mother whom is now deceased. Pearls are one of very few things in nature that have luster! As always, very informative video, computer voice well trained and annunciation on par. I so enjoy all your videos and I hope you never run out of subject matter. I love opals, hint-hint.
Andrew Pidor not true. I love pearls. I am a fanatic for Fabergé! They are related but different. Hello, my friend. I am fantastic! Hope you are well and safe! Things slowed down in the anti-microbial / anti-bacteria chemical war there for a minute but jus this last week things have really picked up. I guess with the reopening of he US for business, people are taking more precautions. They need to, this isn’t over yet! Keep doing your videos, they are the beauty in my life, well, along with my view of he Sierra’s! Love those mountains! I watched your waterfall video, again, and am going to Yosemite next week to visit a friend. Keep cool! Love you😘
It is quite rare for men to wear pearls but I do! I was gifted a few sets of black tahitian south sea pearls and golden south sea pearls from jewelmer and I have to say, more men should incorporate pearl studs in their outfits
My one dream is to own a Natural Pearl, made by nothing but Mother Nature and without the hands of humans interfering in its growth. It doesn't have to be large nor a whole strand, just one! Thank you Andrew for yet another great video. Sorry for the delay in commenting but things have been quite crazy going for me lately. I never knew that Abalone Shells ever produced a type of Pearl, even though I love Abalone itself. I do love the colours of the Tahitian Pearls and for myself, I require a pearl to be round. It is a Jewellery Masterpiece as were some others I spied in your video. So far I only have have a suite of Freshwater Pearls set in White Gold with Diamonds. For me, it's more to do with what I like and catches my eye. Maybe one day I'll invest in something more. Hope work has calmed down a little although we are experiencing a Second Wave. LESSONS from PEARLS: Once a university student from Kuwait brought me a pearl after her return from the Middle East. Yet surprisingly, she did not know how pearls were made. I shared with her how constant irritation made such a beautiful thing, and how difficulties in our lives can do the same. An even more meaningful story is of "the pearl of great price," one of the fascinating parables which won Jesus such popularity. In it a pearl is found by a merchant. To get it he sells everything that he has. There are two interpretations to the parable: One is that when we see the beauty of living in tune with God and people, we would exchange everything we have to be part of it. The other is that God loves us so much, we are like a pearl that he gives his best to save. He came to earth to be with and suffer with us. He died for our wrongs, and his resurrection gives us hope of eternal life - the best gift of all!
They are absolutely fascinating! When I went to South Pacific I got the most magnificent ones! I am ever so proud to be the owner of the most magnificent ones. My treasure!!
Thoroughly enjoyable video, but I'm surprised to see no mention of freshwater pearls! They have such a rich history, and I think they really deserve more attention
The rivers in Tennessee had the most beautiful freshwater pearls in the world and worth a lot of money. Sadly, not many left. They were sold in stores at a reasonable price and now worth much more money.

I have quite a few pearls, because I love them so much. I have a beautiful Akoya set of necklace, bracelet and earrings. Two white, nearly perfect pearl necklaces (which were a gift from my friend in Portugal). A Golden South Sea and Black Tahitian necklace and 2 bracelets, 1 Golden South Sea and one Black Tahitian.... All of these are destined to go to my granddaughter when I am gone. Wouldn't it be appalling if she didn't like pearls
I have a quiet a few pearls too and even fresh water. But i dont have grandchildren yet.My two adult children's ( boy's) are not married and no kids. But i will enjoyed while im still alive.
Spot on video, Andrew! Expertly narrated, extremely educational, and beautifully illustrated, with high production value. Your video series on jewelry and precious stones is the best I’ve ever seen. Here in the South (USA), a girl’s first real piece of jewelry is usually a string of pearls given by her father at her sixteenth birthday. Frequently, it is a family heirloom from a grandparent or prior generation. Subsequent major events include gifts of pearls. Such as a triple strand to wear for her wedding.
That's a lovely tradition. I'm from Australia and we don't really have any jewellery traditions except that we'd all like to get some Australian Opal. My mother bought herself a string of lovely fine Cultured Pearls when she started her first job. Unfortunately, she has never passed them down to myself despite being the only daughter and the fact that my mother can not wear them anymore as they are too small. She keeps them sitting around a French Antique Doll's neck and has done for decades. I got to wear them once and the topic has never been brought up since. As someone who dearly loves jewellery, I find this such a waste and an insult from my mother. I certainly hope that you had more luck than myself.
@@krisushi1 I understand how you feel, but maybe because it represents a job she felt good about getting and a lot of self esteem to her she loves seeing them daily. It must be hard not to be able to wear them anymore. 😞

This was most informative about the natural pearls & some better cultured pearls. I guess fresh water pearls aren't included for some reason, but some of them are really beautifu too
I had a ring with a south sea pearl on it that I loved and wore often. One day, sitting at the bar in a restaurant waiting for a table, I looked down and it was GONE! We looked everywhere. Actually had almost everyone in the bar walking around looking for it but not found. I was so sad. The next day I was separating laundry and when I checked my pockets - WOO HOO - my pearl was in my pocket. I must have put my hand in my pocket and knocked off the pearl from it's setting, and it fell into the pocket.

Well, in the Philippines in the southernmost part a fisherman gave me a bunch of pearls, that was 10 years ago, but I didn’t know much about pearls back then. And when i saw the pearls they where nor perfect round and the color was gold, so i said with my innocent mind hmmm 🤔 this must be fake, because the pearl i know is perfect round and cream in color😅. I call my wife and tell her the story, and she ask where are the pearls i told her i left it in the hotel! 😞. Cultured pearls are like diamonds- advertising hype more than rarity. Until one sees the depth and beautiful luster of a gem grade natural pearl, then one will understand the scam that is perpetrated by the cultured pearl industry and run-of-the-mill chain jewellery shops.
It's not a scam, we know we are buying cultured pearls. There is no way in this world that we could afford natural ones. Your statement is way off beam. If I want to have pearls, they are going to be cultured. I have some beautiful cultured pearls. Even so, they are worth a great deal of money now as I bought well. Go away silly man.

Cultured pearls are like diamonds- advertising hype more than rarity.
Until one sees the depth and beautiful luster of a gem grade natural pearl, then one will understand the scam that is perpetrated by the cultured pearl industry and run-of-the-mill chain jewellery shops.
K wong how are you thank you so much for dropping by. I totally agree with your statement 🤗
7charlierox hmmmm, i was pointing out to the Chinese fresh water cultured pearls..😌
Thank u so much for sharing the varities of pearl along wd names👏👍🙏

Hi Maam Maria Pelayo are you from the Philippines 🇵🇭?
@@AndrewPidor Yes, I was born there.
My grade school teacher was Pelayo and she was a good teacher. Haven’t seen her for a long time after I left the Philippines
Although I am a teacher I have spent most of my life in the States and never taught in the Philippines. Thank you all the same.
@@mariapelayo6276 oh wow! What a coincidence. Great 👍🏻 🤗 to know. Take care and God Bless.

These are all so beautiful. Too bad living creatures have to die for our pearls 😕
They sometimes because they failed to mummify the parasite that got in them so they died
Pearls are mummified parasites
Well I looked it up it'd says the die but they are eaten. Just like fish, crab, lobsters, etc.
