    There is something about you guys, both of you sounding so genuine and personable which I’m quite sure is real. In my mid seventies having spent a life of travelling and living in seven different countries, I feel my life began not so dissimilar to yours. I so love to see you each week, I wish you every success in your journey. Keep loving it, your living in real time ie. “Being here NOW” much love to you both (plus the family) from an old Irishman retired now in Australia. ☘️❤️

      Que excelente vidio e é de lovar ajuda constante do senhor Nick que é uma excelente pessoa que está sempre pronto ajudar os outros. Gostei de ver o Iwan a descer o poço que deve ser muito fundo. Espero que água fique boa para beber. É muito agradavdl ter uma salamandra para aquecer a casa no inverno nessa zona os invernos sao muito frios. Tem chovido muito a terra estava muito seca agora com tanta agua é uma bênçao. Bom fim de semana

    I appreciate how much help you get from Nick, Tim and others but I would like to see you working with local tradespeople and suppliers. What I see is an expat community looking after its own needs with very little integration with the local Portuguese economy and society. I'm not carping, I'm sure the Portuguese you do come into contact with appreciate what you are doing to restore an abandoned property and are grateful for the small boost to the local economy that flows from projects like yours. I'd just like to see the occasional local pop up.

    • @FrankieOffGrid
      @FrankieOffGrid  7 месяцев назад

      Check out our driveway video from a few weeks back, we chat to our neighbours in that video.
      We only use Portuguese suppliers, it’s just that with certain jobs, the language barrier can become a problem - we’re both pretty proficient in Portuguese by now but there are still certain situations you’d rather avoid (Tim down a well).
      It’s definitely one thing about RUclips.. you only see 5% of the lives of the people making the videos. Iwan broke his ribs playing football in a nearby town that is over half local Portuguese and we’re very much a part of our local community.

    • @BrianSmith-ow9gy
      @BrianSmith-ow9gy 7 месяцев назад

      @@FrankieOffGrid Sorry I missed the driveway vid, I'm looking forward to checking it out. I wasn't carping or being snidey. I have some friends who have property in Spain and they all use English tradesmen who have moved out there, to do their maintenance etc and even buy their materials and tools from English suppliers (Screwfix etc) whenever they find themselves "back home". This is a shame as they've ended up living in a self contained bubble with very little interaction with the local community. I am sure the local Portuguese must be pleased to see an abandoned holding brought back to life. As for Iwan's ribs, it's possible the ball strike didn't break anything. The pressure contour of an inflated ball is unlikely to be high enough to break bones as flexible as ribs. It's possible that Iwan anticipated the ball coming and tensed up instinctively or as a reaction to the impact, and this tensing tore some of the scar tissue forming from the previous injury. Intercostal muscle damage can be the devil to put right. This link talks about the experience of 2 bowlers who had similar problems getting well after rib injury. Ignoring the surgery stuff, the article gives a good indication (in the medical history of the bowlers) of just how long recovery from rib injury can take. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2579479/
      Very best wishes to you both and Iwan's poor ribs.

    Glad you got through the storm ok. Was it storm babet or a different one? (I know from another channel Portugal is getting hit by Babet too).
    Babet was kind to us no power cuts, no flooding just what looks like half a tree (it isn't half of it really 😂) in our back garden that missed our windows by inches 😅. Can't get hold of the local authorities yet but they will doubtless say your problem which will be an issue as I am in a wheelchair don't think I can clear the stupid thing up. There is more of the tree threatening to drop. It is annoying I told them nearly two years ago it was almost dead but they have done nothing as per 🤦
    Btw the music was beautiful and actually appropriate really it was the build up to a storm so dramatic is called for 😊

    I know here in Blighty for house insurance purposes you need your chimney swept annually by a professional, I get a certificate of him so I am covered. Some people do it themselves but you know what insurance companies are like when there is a claim put in. £45 a year for a big tick in the box is worth it. Plus yours is only a small burner with a small amount of rigid pipe. Mine is about 8m of stainless flexible liner so a professional to do it is better. Love the vids keep them coming 👍

    Have you looked into getting a small wind turbine for topping up the battery when there isn't so much sun? Darker, stormier days are usually windy too.

      It’s generally not very windy here.. only on the stormy days. If we can find one that’s not too expensive that would be simple to fit then it would certainly be worth having for the gloomy days
