musicfog.com Ray Wylie Hubbard unleashes his classic "Snake Farm" upon an unsuspecting Threadgill's audience at the Music Fog Showcase during SXSW 2010.
For my bachelor party we rented a lake house in Oregon and did a bunch of shrooms. This song came on and we put it on repeat for 3 hours just hysterically laughing. Ray is a legend and forever in my heart.
When me and my husband had just gotten married, we were on our honeymoon like a day after our wedding and turned on our hotel room tv. We scrolled through the channels and suddenly a live version of this song came on, right at the chorus. We looked at each other quizzically and then both burst out laughing at the lyrics! It’s a core memory that we look back on and chuckle at. To this day we sometimes bust out singing, “snake farm!” And it always makes us laugh. For that reason I will forever be grateful for this song
First heard this on Outlaw Country on Sirius XM. This was easily 14 years ago. I’ve appreciated his honest songwriting ever since. Although I don’t listen regularly, I listen to this one to remind me “life is too serious to be taken TOO seriously”. Take a chance every day. If you woke up, you e been given one…take it and carry on.
I was on a road trip a few years ago and stopped at a random bar in Florida for a beer. The performer started singing this song and I've never been able to get it out of my head since. Gotta love Florida!
might have been my friend Lee Swimmer (RIP) a former member of Edgar Winter’s touring band-he was from Orlando and the only act I ever saw in FL who played Snake Farm. We did it as a duo a few times as well
@@ItsSusieQue96Maybe! I don't remember his name, sorry. I remember he had long hair, a beard and looked like a tall guy sitting down. Sorry to hear he passed away? What happened? Because the guy I heard performing the song looked like a young guy...
A friend turned me on to this guy and now he’s one of my faves ever!! As far as gritty country blues goes anyway. 😎 He’s actually in a category all his own.
I got to work the door for his show a couple of days ago. It was so much fun!!! A true troubadour!!!!! The young Lady who opened for him was amazing as well. I am now a forever fan of both! I feel really lucky to have worked that show! ❤
My son recognized this song from when he heard it when he was knee high to a grasshopper. He is 5'9" now 13 yrs old. He just smiled when heard the groove.......That in turn, made me smile ear to ear. and still smiling.....
Its a shame he had such a dead crowd. I saw him at the Kessler in Oak Cliff and the crowd was totally into this. Was the best live show I have ever seen. If he comes to your area, he is worth the ticket price for the experience!!!!
I wish I had been at the Austin City Limits concert! I would have made enough applause to make up for the lack of it from those in the audience who don`t know good music if it came up and hit them in the head!
Well folks take it from a music lover whose big brother took him to many of the major rock concerts in Atlanta in the 70`s. Ray Wylie Hubbard is one the finest musician/vocalists in American contemporary music history. He and his musical collaborators don`t have to hide behind computerized technology to entertain us. Their pure talent is so refreshing to me delivered in an uncluttered sonic format making it easy to let the stories take you away from the present.
Yep. I’ve enjoyed the solo concerts of RWH and recently Dean Dillon. That was special for sure. As a long time country DJ. I had no idea Dean was so cool on stage. I knew he wrote great songs but not much was ever written about him when I was on air. Check him out. Heck I might watch it again tonight.
I know this is a little late, but you know this is a song about a real place, right??? lol, it's in New Braunfels, TX. It is literally called The Snake Farm. Or at least it was until a few years ago when they renamed it Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo.
Hot Dang, You’re Right!!! I was just sent this video song as a family joke about my twin cousins Always accidentally coming across Big Snakes!! 2 -4 foot snakes in their Kentucky car that wouldn’t start! Back to the percussion...!!!! It don’t get better than that for that song! Peace ☀️🌴🦩🌎🦋🦎🌺🎵🐝🐾
I took my grandson to the Snake Farm in New Braunfels yesterday. Beautiful animals!! Every type of snake known to man-puff adders, every type of rattlesnake on earth --etc. etc. I had no idea a attlesnake could be so huge. Surprised I didn't have nightmares!
Last Thursday night--got to finally see Ray Wylie live on "the Front Porch" at the St. Augustine Ampitheater in St. Augustine, Fla. He rocked the house and kicked ass!! Glad to see "an old cat" like him still can rock "South of the River!!"
I was high off my ass in a colorado ski lodge the first time I heard this...I instantly fell in love and then fell off my chair laughing for an awkwardly long time....everyone was staring like "who let that kid out of the psych ward?" Lol
They have lions and other big cats there too now , def worth the $13 ish to get in. Wish the cats had a little more room tho but I think they’re rescues
Your comment has me in stitches!! Thanks for the lift, especially after such an energising song! I believe that Robert E. Lee may be back from the grave, but still acting deader than a doornail!
I’m from his town, you can see him all the time there and yes he’s a great entertainer. However, I do his a/c work and he has the hardest system to work on ever lol. Still love him and his family
Saw Ray Wylie Hubbard at the Red Ants Music Festival at White Sulphur Springs, MT. 2 weeks ago. Fantastic!! I've been listening to him for the two solid weeks since.
Poopsies (my son) is now 6'4" 344# size 16 feet. 15 yrs old autistic / 8 other diagnoses. Hard to handle. His POS "friend" in Florida was singing this the other day. He told me and I just smiled. RWH is great.
Well country boy, if you are from Texas you should know Ray wrote this song after the famous Snake Farm in San Antonio, you drive right past it going southbound I-35.
I have lived in Texas and have friends and family there and I thoroughly enjoy Ray Wylie Hubbard and his son Lucas` musical talents. Take it from someone who has attended many major rock concerts in Atlanta , Norfolk VA and Hampton VA they have nothing on this father and son.
For my bachelor party we rented a lake house in Oregon and did a bunch of shrooms. This song came on and we put it on repeat for 3 hours just hysterically laughing. Ray is a legend and forever in my heart.
Had almost an identical story, except it was a river in Pennsylvania.. everything else is identical
@@benmcintyre3147 it just sounds nasty 😂
I would have loved joining in on that party.

I seriously thought at many points in life that I've smoked way too much weed. Until I heard this song. Congratulations for all of us.

Burying Dad today and this is in my head since I woke up. Can't account for it, but thanks RWH.
my condolences
I’m sorry for your loss. Hopefully, Ray Wylie helped get you through. Continued strength to you and your family.
I'm sorry for your lose. I've also gotten this song stuck in my head during times of high stress. Not all the time, but more than once.
Me too
So sorry. Hope you're doing better now.
Best song ever written....

I was doing Iowaska and watching some bald short guy's podcast and God sent me here.
my five year old was walking through the house singing this song my wife of that time said you'll have to explain it when they call from the school
paul atwood you’ll just have to say it’s a reptile house. No need to spread the truth
Not this song but I have been there brother
Oh that`s priceless!
Just had this conversation with my wife about my six year old son.
I think the drummer is the real snake charmer... that dude is in the groove, I'll tell ya what!
Chewing that gum to the beat also. Probably got some meth from the snake farm.
Hot Dang, You’re Right!!!

How funny too...I always wanted to feature a "snake farm" in a movie, even though I'd though I made it up.
