I am a native Texan and I love this song! I recall being at Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin back in the day when guys like Ray Wylie and Jerry Jeff were just starting to roll...glad to see they are still representing the state and the great music!
I'm a Texan hanging out up north. I found this song on a jukebox and couldn't help myself. I played it at a biker bar in Indianapolis. Almost didn't make it out. Lol

Adam Nicholson maybe a past life? I want to say is NOT, NOT TOO LATE,! As Lyle says “ that’s right your not from Texas, but Texas wants you anyway. , Come on, we I’ll dote on you with your cool accent and you can marvel at what we did to your native tongue.”. We would love you. Get here.!
I started going to Texas on business last year. I get it. Texas goes their own way. Love it there. The heat don't bother me, I grew up in GA anyway. People were fantastic, the sunsets cosmic and beautiful. Texas rocks and if you do not think so, then you just don't get it.
I'm thrilled to have found Outlaw Country on SiriusXM a few years ago. I probably would never have discovered Ray Wylie Hubbard and so many other fantastic, original musicians. I'll pass on modernTrashville, Texas is the place!
To understand the irony, it probably helps to know the inspiration for the song. The story he tells during his live performances is that it was a response to hecklers at one of his performances. They were out of towner types who repeatedly called for him to play Nashville radio "hits" - which I feel is pretty insulting to a song writer like Ray. He wrote the song between sets at that show and came back on stage and sang it in response to those guys. He's telling them we have our own music in Texas. We don't that other nonsense. Irony because, presumably he doesn't really mean to insult them, but is giving a humorous response.
Now, these days you're just going to get in trouble with that song! That's why I listen to it daily! I believe I first heard it on KMET Los Angeles radio in the '70's! And I've never even been to Texas!
Still grateful for this one! The 13th Floor Elevators should be in the R&R HOF! They were the fathers of psychedelic rock! Didn’t know about them until this song!
Nicola B We have an Italy Texas , just south of Dallas. I am SO lookin' forward to seeing Hubbard live at Festival Hill in Round Top, TX on April 3rd ! I'll bet my farm that this song will get a lot of requests, by many who don't even get the irony. ;)
Spent some time with a woman in Amarillo....I'm from NY....that was an experience. Other than my New England accent...I fit right in.....can't wait to get back. I loved it there as long as I didn't have to speak to anyone. I was at the IDK bar in Amarillo and sat in with this good ole boys crooning.....Man that was fun, we played our asses off. Those cats said, "you New York boys can play" I said "fuckin a right, we own jazz". I threw a shit ton of jazz chords at their songs. Gotta say, it was a good night. We had a lot of fun. Love Texas
I went to see Ray Wylie a few nights ago in Port Aransas at a little place that held about 120 people. Great show. Met a guy from Georgia who always wanted to see Ray Wylie.

***** I love to travel, and I have been the only American among tours out of the UK, and Australia. We all bonded, and people felt comfortable talking about the US and how the world sees us. It was interesting that the Texas attitude is why we are so disliked. An Australian teen had a Texan school teacher, that was so arrogant, that the kids harrased her back to the US. He asked if I was uncomfortable letting people know that I'm American. I told him no, that we are a big country, and Texas is very different from Massachusetts, and Kansas is very different from Oregon. I have also been told by them, and many travelers that it is best to tell people that I'm Canadian. We were in Greece, and the hotel told the Americans that they had lost our luggage, when they knew where it was all along. All of us need to tone down our puffing.. besides our middle class income is 27th in the world. We are not even among Europe. We are beneath Dubai and Kuwait. Middle class Australians make 150, 000 dollars a year. The young Australian I spoke of was traveling with his mailman dad and CNA mom.

Whisper the Willow Wolf So leave, please do, go, and take all like minded with you. The most pius & judgmental people I've met in my life are folks that have attitudes such as yours. I know we have never met, but I feel I know you. You are typically very nice on the surface, but you cannot wait to get comfortable around someone so you can unload about everyone around you that you disapprove of. You are inherently a narcissist though you may not even realized it. What will you do when you run away to Costa Rica and in 10 years drug cartels take it over, or a junta comes into power and the citizens are crushed (most of the history of Latin America for the last 500 years.) Run away again? Or take ownership of the society and fight it, probably not. In my opinion people with utopian attitudes are such as yours are the real problem in all the Western world today and are a big part of the reason the West is slipping. You suffer from a broken moral compass (you get the little things right, but get the big things upside down), you collectively are unable to see the world for what it truly is and deal with it on its terms. The struggle in the Middle East has everything to do with civilization. Yet the people on our side who are clear minded about what we face are the real threat in your eyes. The Costa Rica you describe is the exception to the majority of human existence. Was there ever a time the US lived up to the vision you have of it, probably not. If our system cannot produce a civilization worth living in and fighting to protect then it is not possible for such a situation to exist in terms of the human condition. But you are wrong, our country has millions of wonderful people working hard to make it a better place if folks such as you will get out of the way. If you want to turn you back on us, fine, but I take ownership of my society and I am proud of its accomplishments. If the USA did not exist the world would be a very darker place today indeed. Run away, maybe we will welcome you back like the prodigal son someday. Until then, screw you we're from Texas.

I am leaving on vacation this weekend, and there families are worried that I won;t be there.
Just found this today - Screw You , We're From Texas - is an awesome song - I gotta cover this and play it from my Texas cousins . Thanks for a great change up song sarcastic gem .
Hey, Delaware... "irony" doesn't mean the opposite of what is true. It means saying something in a way contrary to what you expect. We're a pretty friendly lot, as a rule. We can also laugh at ourselves. That doesn't mean you can. Screw you.
It's Texas! Great song!!!!!!!!!! Sums it all up!... Now for those of you that don't get the sarcasm... Listen to the way Mr. Wylie goes about it!!!! Fun stuff!
ALLGODS AREFAKE Screw you! You don’t know your history very well because Scotus ruled that the secession treaty that Texas originally signed is still valid after the Civil War. We can bust up into five more states or we can leave. Only stipulation is that if we ever do pull out we can’t join another state to form a new union which is fine. But the liberal media likes to put a different spin on it. Fortunately, for most of us in Texas, We’re required to read the documentation.
Tony Beckham Don't let the haters get you down. I happen to like the GBC area. Lots of good hunting and fishing. Idiots will find fault with anyplace. And David Peterson, screw you Im from Texas
Stephen it is Devin and I am as well. Grew up in Corsicana and my grandparents are from Mabank and if y'all grew up in Texas you need to quit acting like little kids and take a damn joke.
me2js If you are white - then YOU are the outsider - geez, this song is ironic (look it up), so what if someone wants to post a political comment - the song is "political." It bashes everybody - even Texans.
Nice language. Grow up, bud. P.S. you are NOT from TX. Maybe you live there, maybe you were born there, but my people have been on this continent for thousands of years. Can you say the same? Jackass. Oh, by the way, I like Hubbard, and his music, including the song about which you are being an ass. Really, what the bleep is in the water down there?
This Georgia Boy loves this song! Problem I see in 2018, is Great economy (other than the other 49) has attracted many to flock to Texas, especially a large number of Liberal Democrats... They move into a perfect community, where everything is grand, & they want to change it to their way of thinking. Unfortunately we have Liberal here in Georgia too, but they are generally required to stay in Atlanta, the more conservative one becomes the further from Atlanta the reside. Atlanta is a nice place to visit, just don’t want to stay there. Texas is great👍 But it’s not Georgia!
I love this dude, seems I should have heard of him before last months Austin- SXSW. It was great that Outlaw Country radio gave him time to host his own show!
This sound is me, and this song is awesome. Thank you Mr. +Ray Wylie Hubbard, & Thank you +Music Fog. Respectfully, to you both & all of y'all: I'm from Georgia. It's kinda like Texas./ In a way, but not really./ But really, I am hereby officially askin' for an honorary Texan citizenship, complete with a card, coin or certificate, pronto./And yes, you can play the Lone Ranger, but I'm always gonna be Tonto/ As for the coin (if it's not included) A with a nifty lil' badge or hat pin will do/ and 1 star is fine, too/ And by far, most fitting/ I don't need 4 or 5. Hey, I wore #5 on my back most of my life, man. And even though change can sometimes be good, don't worry,...I'm loyal./ And while we're speaking on the topics of being loyal & the numero uno/ I know that's the first requirement...in Texas./ You can call this a request, I guess,, but I do hereby officially prefer the word "official"/ It just sounds better./ And I don't mind (if you don't mind)/if you just drop it in the mail to me, (If you need my mailing address, just make a request /An email, or reply will do/ Because I'm sure the drive (be it by truck or car/ Would be far too far to make/ I realize gas ain't cheap these days/ Unless you've "gone green/( I guess)/ Then, in that case: check your battery,& its cables, and or (Or and, and or) be sure it has a full charge/ If this applies to you, ya might need to stay near an electrical outlet during the haul/ Ya know, if you're the generous type, and all/ So, if you do choose to make the drive instead of choosing shipping/ For most, a gas station'll do. In advance I'd like to add the fact that I thoroughly appreciate & that you for your kind act, I'll include the word "noble," too/ And I ain't just saying it to say, it's true. I do. *NOTE:These previous lines all have a "c" and a "tm" after ;em/ And it was typed on the 6th of September, 2017 a.d. & a.d. stands for anno domino, which is Latin./ If ya don't know what that means, look it up./The world would be a better place if everyone knew this abbreviation's full meaning & while knowing its meaning/ It'd be even better if everybody also respected the words for which it stands(in more ways than one, not to take anything away from the previously mentioned number of 1)/. But most don't./ However, if I had to guess, I'd say most folks in Texas do know what it means/ Even if they don't even realize they know what it means./Ya know what I mean?./ Now, back to that "c"& "TM" Note: All Rights Reserved, are reserved as to the use (or re-use) of this meandering RUclips reply post (seen just before this disclaimer) is in fact, original & none of these words may not be plagiarized, shared or used for profit (via verbal or written means; be that by mouth, megaphone -or-via voice , parchment paper, or stone tablets made of stone.) He then went on to tell me that there was an American teacher at his high school " from Texas". He said she she was so arrogant that the kids hated her out of the school. I told him that the US was a big country with many different values. Oh, my patients and coworkers love me.. I am leaving on vacation this weekend, and there families are worried that I won;t be there.
Loved hanging with you in Nm. Screw you were fromTx!
born in Florida but go to Texas every years, got a lot more respect for Texas and Texans than floridians
Aren’t most Floridians from somewhere else?
Just found this today - Screw You , We're From Texas - is an awesome song - I gotta cover this and play it from my Texas cousins . Thanks for a great change up song sarcastic gem .
"The problem with irony is not everyone gets it..." Laughing at these comments.
indeed
Haha proving his point all the way down to the bottom of the comment section
blatantmisconception me too
Hey, Delaware... "irony" doesn't mean the opposite of what is true. It means saying something in a way contrary to what you expect. We're a pretty friendly lot, as a rule. We can also laugh at ourselves. That doesn't mean you can. Screw you.
Exactly!
It's Texas! Great song!!!!!!!!!! Sums it all up!... Now for those of you that don't get the sarcasm... Listen to the way Mr. Wylie goes about it!!!! Fun stuff!
Texas Red Dirt.
It's a state of mind.
A great musican, thank you for sharing.
red dirt.....when u grow up in ok-texas it makes for good songwriting material
The New Willie !!!! I just know that Willie would be honored to have Ray Wylie fill his shoe's :-)
cause I can sing all of those songs about Texas and I still do all of the sad ones that I know said David Allan Coe
I like the attitude. Great work on the guitar.
This should be the national anthem when TX secedes
Texas will never succeed
You fuckin right! 🤘
The south loss get fucked
ALLGODS AREFAKE Screw you! You don’t know your history very well because Scotus ruled that the secession treaty that Texas originally signed is still valid after the Civil War. We can bust up into five more states or we can leave. Only stipulation is that if we ever do pull out we can’t join another state to form a new union which is fine. But the liberal media likes to put a different spin on it. Fortunately, for most of us in Texas, We’re required to read the documentation.
MIke Zsiga I would not bet on that.
I'm from Lubbock Tx, love this song!!!!!
We are awesome as a state, wait until we are a country again.
Gonna be waiting a looooooooooooong time.
It’s gonna be newer Mexico
It'll be nicer when the Mexicans take it back
Shiner had the best statement....Texas, making fun of puny States since 1845.
I guess you missed the concept of irony.
I love all his music! RWH reminds me of a Man I once loved.
RIP Tom Griffith.
Damn proud to be from Texas!!! Gun Barrel City!!
idk if I would be proud of Gun Barrel City. Home of the most crack/meth heads in Texas.
Devin Peterson Its pride Devin. Ray Wylie just expresses it very well!
Murchison tx
Been to TX, Corpus Christie. Beautiful coastline.
Hahaha! This is what outsiders hate about Texans, but it's what we like about ourselves.
Fuck the outsiders!! Who gives a shit about them anyway? If they would all leave? TEXAS would be a lot better place
me2js If you are white - then YOU are the outsider - geez, this song is ironic (look it up), so what if someone wants to post a political comment - the song is "political." It bashes everybody - even Texans.
Este DeTringham
No one originated in North America, not even the "native Americans". So, shut the fuck up.
p.s. I'm from Texas!
No, "your people" have not. Go fuck yourself. liar. Goddamn meskins think they have some fucking entitlement. What a joke.
Thanks a million and blessings and rewards.
From Missouri, but like the attitude...
I'm from Louisiana and mighty damn proud to be in hollering distance from the Lone Star State line.

I've always said that hip hop got its roots from country and this song shows the link to anyone who's honest enough to hear it.

TEXAS!!🔫🐴🐂🌹. A state of mind! Greetins' from HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS,y'all- come visit then go home👋
Texas is great👍
But it’s not Georgia!
I love this dude, seems I should have heard of him before last months Austin- SXSW. It was great that Outlaw Country radio gave him time to host his own show!
They have to put that on their license plates!
martywhitevan you got my vote!
How about putting “All my Exs live in Texas” on license plates?
Pray for Texas.Bad times in Texas with covid.Texans are a sturdy tough people!

@@brendanmckenna5391 most of all you
I was born in West Texas on the anniversary of Texas becoming a state.
Cowboy to the bone round these parts.
I rank him up there with James McMurtry as far as poet and performer. Love 'em both. They tell it like it is.
Ray Wiley likes McMurtry, too. Even sings his song "Choctaw Bingo."
i aint born in Texas but i got here as damn fast as i could
no band was cooler than the 13th Floor Elevators!

SOME OF THE FINEST AMERICAN MUSIC.
I'm from Texas.....I went so far from Texas I hit the ocean and couldn't go any farther. Lol. Oh, relax Texans, I'm just screwing with you.
Classic in your face Ray Wylie! :-) Love it!
Genius plain and simple
Some songs are just.... Cooler Than Hell!
I love the fact that you don't hear any songs called "Screw You, We're From New York"
Yeah ‘cause that’s far too polite for how us New Yorkers usually talk.
They don't have to write a song about that.
But most don't./ However, if I had to guess, I'd say most folks in Texas do know what it means/ Even if they don't even realize they know what it means./Ya know what I mean?./ Now, back to that "c"& "TM" Note: All Rights Reserved, are reserved as to the use (or re-use) of this meandering RUclips reply post (seen just before this disclaimer) is in fact, original & none of these words may not be plagiarized, shared or used for profit (via verbal or written means; be that by mouth, megaphone -or-via voice , parchment paper, or stone tablets made of stone.)
