I love how gligar was considered awful early on and needed an evolution. and now he is one of the most meta defining pokemons in UU and forces latias to carry ice beam and a lot of pokemons to carry HP ice
Hey because you always skip talking about pre-evolves in gen 5 with the introducition of eviolite you should make a video called: How GOOD was EVIOLITE actually?
It's insane that Gligar, a known unviable Pokemon in OU is in the same tier as Latias, once an OU Pokemon banworthy, It's also in a Higher Tier than Metagross, formerly one of the Best Attackers in the OU metagame.
@@tomahawkinc5971 I mean why can pidgey learn fly? sure it can fly but then you try to actually fly on the damn thing... then you wonder how the hell a tiny little bird supports the entire weight of the protagonist! let alone where the hell would they sit on pidgey anyway
One thing I liked to do with Gliscor was to give it Fling and Acrobatics. That way I could throw away the poison orb afterwards and poison the opponent, but then I had an extremely powerful flying stab move that was stronger than earthquake
@@faby6515 It should yeah. As long as you have a Poison Heal Gliscor and a Toxic Orb, you can just give it Fling and Acrobatics to deal some good damage
Kaiyuni I disagree, it has been a good rapid spinner for a long time, while also being able to set up Toxic Spikes AND absorb them. And even outside that, he could be amazing in gen V with Rain Dish and Scald.
Dengo is the problem, like seriously how can you solve the hazard problem if you can't spin or defog it. OU players just like their steel cheetos and gliscor have to pay for its sin.
Honestly gliscor might be my second favourite pokemon (number 1 being chimchar) it has such a cool design and decent stats. gen 4 and 5 really were the best pokemon games
Shoulda mentioned that as of Ultra Sun/Moon, Gliscor received a VERY relevant buff in defog. Defog gave it a new role as a defogger with reliable recovery that fits well on balance, stall, and bulky offense teams.
The best Stallbreaker by far in GSC, but fell to the bottom right after, with It's evolution just slightly slowing it down. It's sad cuz i really like that pokemon.
Gligar, out of all the Pokémon out there to this day, has the potential to be the most types in my opinion. It’s a Ground & Flying type, but it could easily also pass as a Bug type, Poison type, or even a Dark type. All of those types would make sense on it. If there was ever a Pokémon that deserved 5 types, it’s Gliscor, the Ground/Flying/Bug/Poison/Dark type Pokémon!
Gligar in gen 5 was an amazing pokemon in UU. I used it on a team that I laddered to the top 100 with. It was one of the few pokemon that could use knock off effectively before its buff. Bring it in on a scarfed zapdos and fire it off or when they sent out dusclops to burn you, you didn't care cause you would take that opportunity to knock off its eviolite. It was a move that at the time no one saw coming.
Ah Gliscor, I have a fairly interesting history with this thing. I don't remember anything about it from "back in the day" in Diamond and Pearl, but when I came back to the series in X/Y, a friend of mine, Simon, used to always bring a defensive Poison Heal Gliscor to our duels, which was a constant annoyance and even won him a few of these duels (that was right when I got into online battling, so before I started truly IV/EV breeding/training). This all caused me to breed my own Gliscor and name it "Simon", I also gave it Ice Fang to counter others of its kind.
People didn't notice the subtle design change between gens 4 & 5 but it's claws got bigger and it's.... "wings"(?) got smaller, giving it a more distinct silhouette and more notable features with the added benefit of making its tail look longer
Hmmm.... Gligar got kinda shafted in this video. Gen 5 gave it Evoilite which lead its defenses to become a big wall in the UU tiers and below, becoming a toxic stallin pokemon with enough healing to stay alive and U turn out whenever things felt threatening. A common core on many stall teams. Was hoping he would talk more about that too
CountofBleck Why use Gligar when Gliscor does its job better? Unless you're playing in the lower tiers, there's no real advantage in using Gligar over Gliscor
Gliscor is one of my top 6 favorite pokemon... it's just so me. As a kid I always played through gen 2 with Gligar on the team as I just really liked its design. I stopped playing Pokémon before gen 3 and a friend got me back into it at gen 6 and I was so surprised mah boi got an evolution and I was not disappointed with its design and playstyle. I was so hyped. I still insist on trying to fit it into a team where it can be viable competitively. Gliscor is awesome!
I'm got a Gligar as my buddy in Pokemon GO right now as my buddy to get Gliscor. Even before he had an evolution Gligar was one of my favs as a kid I always wanted him to have a evolution.
A bit disappointed we got no mention of Eviolite Gligar. Even if it's not a spotlight set, it's shockingly strong and worth at least some mention, as it may have less recovery than Gliscor, but it seems to outdo it for outright bulk.
Mr. Mime! I remember back when red/blue came out we used to take our Gameboys to school and play at lunch every single day. At the time I had no idea rare candies wouldn't raise your stats as much as if you leveled up normally, so my level 100 Mr Mime was absolutely terrible.
