I love watching the dogs running, I love the agricultural shows, I love the Scottish scenery, I love the dogs herding, I loved the holiday cottage ❤❤❤❤❤😊
I love the variety of your vids, from training and working your amazing dogs to your walks and how you groom and care for them, seeing them playing in the garden and I love love LOVE seeing them run :)
listening to their lil paws take off running in a frenzy gives me such joy
Videos on how you got into shepherding and sheep dog training would be great 💜
Dr John’s are clearly delighted to be your sponsors! Glad they’re looking after you & your gorgeous dogs 👏👏👏
Training would be great. Explanation of commands and their meanings as it relates to the sheep. Also why you chose those words as commands? Example “that will do”. Love your channel and love seeing you and the dogs at work.
Love this channel it's actually very therapeutic. Farming is hard work. I bet the sheep feel so good after their shears.
I really enjoy the current variety of videos that you upload.
So interesting! The sheep seem fairly cooperative but still hard work. Storm and Echo their normal brilliant selves. It is great to see other aspects of sheep farming.
I love videos about the dogs and their training.
I'm a spinner and a knitter and wish I lived close enough to get one of those fleeces. Thanks for another interesting video, Sean.
I would love a jumper made from Sean's sheep from you if you do get that wool! I missed the time we spun, card, spin, and knitted our own wear. Wonder if Sean would consider selling a bale? ❤
As a weaver, knitter and occasional spinner, I'm with you on that!
At least as a spinner you would appreciate the work it takes to get wool had opportunity to do a bit of spinning but the carding and the cleaning of the fleece that was work This one spinner used some of her long haired collie’s fur in the yarn😂she did a couple balls just of dog hair enough to make a beanie not a recommendation to replace wool 😂😂
@@brigidconroy2111 most of the long fur on dogs is pretty scratchy. But some dogs have a very soft undercoat. A neighbor had a dog, part husky given the coat and tail, and his undercoat was like angora. I mixed it with merino wool and spun lovely soft yarn.
@@TamarLitvot how cool I couldn’t remember if the dog beanie was scratchy but didn’t want to say it was if it wasn’t
Boy that dog could shed😂
Love to see the shearing! love seeing the dogs working the sheep and seeing g you at work on the farm
I’ve been enjoying your videos of everyday sheepdog work; the dogs’ training sessions; how you keep both dogs and sheep healthy (including grooming & shearing); lambing season work; market days when sheep are auctioned; video shorts with great music; little sessions from you & Stacey at home (but you probably would want to limit those now, as maybe intrusive); your dog-walk videos around the local area showing us landscape & history; showing us the special clothing & equipment you use - have I missed anything? You mention maybe showing us how you became a shepherd: that would be really interesting. When did you decide it was what you wanted to do, how does anyone get started and how are shepherds trained? Is there something like a BTech, or apprenticeship scheme? Farming College?
I really appreciated the previous video showing all your shearing gear and the importance of each item. I sheared ONE sheep in an animal science class over 40 years ago😂. It was amazing, hard work, and I wish I could say that she walked away without a cut, like yors did. I love all of your videos, Sean. Keep up the great work 😊
How thoughtful of the sheep to come with convenient handles on their heads to make shearing easier!
I like the variety of videos on your channel! 💕
Very informative. Thank you Sean. As far as content you’re doing great !!!
That looks like fun, but lots of work! The dogs are great.
Lovely. I would love to see more videos just of the everyday jobs around with the doggos and sheeps. Around my area we have maybe 2 shepherds with small flocks going through once a year, but that is one of the few agricultural professions I really have no real clue about.
I just like the casual way you are doing these vids, no special cuts or effects necessary, just a guy who is skilled in his job and knows how to treat animals right.
Wow.....look how many subscribers you have now !!! Congratulations !!! Your channel is amazing !!!
I enjoy when you talk about the dogs on a personal level. I do learn a lot when you do informational videos. And your personal lives. I think your frequent viewers want to feel like part of the flock.
I like your pun there ! lol
Beautiful Job Sean!! I love the variety of content, but my favorite are always the shorts of your dogs rocketing around the countryside. It shows off their amazing athletic prowess as well as the stunningly beautiful backdrop of the countryside. I love those views :)
Your channel should really be called Seanthesheepdogman! I love watching the dogs work!
thanks - would be fantastic to see videos on your journey as a shepherd.
Thank you I thoroughly enjoyed your shearing video, your sheep do look good and I love your new cap ❤
I would like a baby progress video or update. I am praying for a healthy one.
Thanks for another great video.
I'm a 'city girl', so whichever videos you post, I learn a lot. I enjoy the calm, walking through the countryside ones, because they give me a view of your beautiful country. Watching the dogs execute commands, as well as their laid-back play time with you and your wife, are lovely. Small family moments with your wife are wonderful. Now, with the sheering of the sheep, I'm amazed at watching how it goes, just you, no one else helping you manhandle the sheep! So, yes, I like any subject you address. The only ones that don't apply to me, but are still enjoyable, are when you speak of the clothing brand..... I live in Florida, USA!!!! Our "cold" is 30* F!!!
I have been enjoying all your content. Thank you so much.
I like all your content! Thanks Sean!
All of the things you mentioned. Especially how you learned everything you do.
I would love to see a follow through on the wool being processed. Thank you.
I bet they are happy to shed that winter coat!
Hi Sean, id like to see how the collies are in their 'downtime', do they have their own bowls for food, beds, do any of them sit by you at home, have odd home habits?
My boy went everywhere with me so we were lucky - i had a boat maintenance business and he would get walks and an evening session at the dog park.
Activities keep this breed sane and sensible.
He wouldn't be dominated though so i had to watch a child didn't tug on him. He definitely was his own person and had his friends - humans and other dogs.
Sean - I would love to see a vid about traditional historic sheep herding. How did they shear sheep before electric clippers?
Back-breaking work: I’ve seen some shearers wearing those back brace belts that weight-lifters use. Ever tried one, Sean? Can’t afford a back strain with a wean on the way!
It doesn’t look like you were wearing your heavier gear to prevent lanolin irritation here?
Can you mention how lanolin is processed in a vid? Now I’m curious as to how its made, is it a by product of wool refining? Ty great video again
Those are the exact protective clothes he showed in the last video, when he talked about lanolin.
@@northernsnow6982 omg how dumb am I lol
I thought he was wearing a long sleeved shirt in that video but given my shitty memory you’re likely right lol
@jobob5497 He didn't have it on in the other video. He just held it up, showing the back being longer, to stop the cold breeze from going up there back. So, I can see where the confusion could easily come from.
The pants he's wearing are double thick to help keep the lanolin oils off his skin. Then he has those shoes, made from one piece, to be able to roll his foot around in different positions.
I like a little bit of everything.
Great video Sean, you make shearing those sheep look easy, but I'm sure just the opposite is true.
Did you always know you wanted to do this job?
Which in my opinion you are very good at😊
You're getting good at this videoing gig
... Splendiferous Indeed 🏴 5:13
The farm is such a beautiful place. How about a tour around the farm featuring the beauty of the topography ant the scenic views. Whenever you are doing a herding video and the landscapes are great I call my wife in to watch. She is a landscape artist and I am hoping to give her some inspirations. Incidentally, I just watch Scotland vs. Hungary in Euro 2024. My conddolensces
Good morning from Midwest United States!...
What type of video 🤔🤔🤔☺️...
I want to have a dog when I retire soon and your training videos are wonderful... But I like knowing about you and where you live and your life... and the history of that part of the world...like at Christmas...
I will take what you show and teach...it's peaceful for me...❤
They went around the mud puddle 😀
I’d love to hear about how you got into shepherding! ❤
Have you thought about offering your wool for sale to subscribers? I think there are fiber enthusiasts who would be interested in working with this heirloom wool and willing to buy it. I used to spin, knit and weave, and would have bought some in the old days.
Once it goes out of the UK, prices would be expensive due to shipping costs. You would be able to get a significant amount more locally, at the same price. If you're already in the UK, I'm sure you can set up a business deal if you're willing to pay.
It would cost me over £37, just to ship a pallet of wool from the UK. Wool would regularly cost me 50-75 cents Canadian per kilo.
I always wonder what it feels like to the sheep to lose all that insulation suddenly. And the weight as well. Is it like an unpleasant dunk in frigid water or a welcome cool relief.
I would love to hear your roundup after some of the videos on lessons learned, life hacks, and what changed you after that may inspire, challenge, and motivate us. I love your videos as they depict an honest day's work, close to nature and animals, and that feeling of freedom and satisfaction after each day. Example: Your first video on shearing was so educational. So, how was the skills applied in a real sheep and what was your experience? The sheep looked great after!
the dogs in the back of the car, "Wtf is he trying to do^? This makes no sense, why is he making the sheep smaller?"
Kind of felt like those sheep did last week when I got sheered. 3 years of hippie hair donated to Locks of Love
You did a good thing tho
Always learning new stuff from the videos. 👍
About the 2:00 mark, you're telling them 'steady' as they step around a pond and the sun rays are whiting out the shot a bit......... It looks like it's a scene for a suspense movie!! LOL
very interesting 2 watch
Do the sheep seem to understand that there's two weeks between a good and a bad haircut?
Wow, I thought you would hire out shearing.
And nary a nick!! Great going Sean. I personally love any video you post. I do get a chuckle out of the group / team meetings. One question though…have you named your sheep?
Always impressive Sean!
Do you get all "Itchy and scratchy" from all that hair/fur flying around?
Hi👍great video 😊
just found your channel. How on earth do you train these dogs so well. It it something to watch how they listen to your instructions. thanks
Do you dock tails? Very good video on the shearing they seemed to be relieved at the end.
It's hard to pick love your variety.
I want to hear how you started and if you're happy with your work. I've had a ranch in Oregon, not easy work. How's the family?
Yes, give us some tips on how to train the dogs
He has a few videos on dog training. Specifically, ones for training hearding dogs.
It’s roughly 1130 here on the West Coast of Canada. I think you’ve done a great job so far and I appreciate there may be only so many functions on a farm. Do you ever use the dogs on the cattle?
What kind of shoes were you wearing to shear the sheep? Also do you have to trim their hooves?
Sean, 1) What do you do with your wool that you take off the Aberdeen Sheep? 2) What quality wool is it? Like for spinning for warp or weft for weaving? 3) How would we find some of this wool in USA? I love the black wool!!! Your dogs are so inspirational.
Thanks for sharing the shearing video. I don’t know if you’ve mentioned this before or not, but does shearing only happen 1x a year? That’s a lot of fur. You made it look easy. I’m sure it took lots of practice.
I’m a quilter … wool batting.
Do you have any photos or videos of your dogs as puppies? Any tips on whelping?
As always great stuff. If I had a vote as to what to show, it might be about the "elephant in the room." These sheep are food. What portion of what animal goes for what products?
Thanks-
Alexander in Gloucester, Massachusetts, U.S.
Hey Sean, I was wondering, do some sheep seem to know what they are doing when getting sheared? It almost looked as though some of them were getting into the next position for you. It's as if they wanted to get the wool off and knew the next step.
Or is it just the temperament of the individual sheep? I've noticed before that shearers tend to have problems with the same sheep. Do certain sheep remember bad experiences with the clippers that cause these differences?
I think he has 2 that have a mind of their own
If the sheep were BRED for more wool but now not too profitable for wool, can’t they be bred back to losing the wool like before?
My back was killing me just watching you bend over for so long, Sean. I would have found a way to put them up on a table or something to save your back. Maybe that is just my 70 years talking but I am a registered nurse and we do a lot of bending over and lifting and I am paying the price now. I have a question, do sheep ever have trouble with their hooves? I have watched a lot of cattle rancher videos and it seems that hoof problems happen frequently and they use specialists to treat their hooves. Just curious.
Thank you. Where did you grow? Anyone else in your family work on farms?
Back breaking!
It's farming, of course it's hard work. It's more satisfying and healthy than sitting at a desk or standing at a counter all day. It's definitely more rewarding work, as you can see the results of it. Sitting at a desk or standing at a counter, you don't see much of the process, so it's not nearly as rewarding to the individual. I know I prefer the pain I get from moving around over the pain I experience from not being active all day. I find it's easier to get rid of, too.
Sean how old is the barn that the sheep were herded into? Some of those stone walls look really really old as over a hundred years old, are they? And yep they were good dogs .
How about the age of the farms in your area . Like farmsteads still in the family over how many generations? Has farmers had to change due to environmental conditions? Ohh how’s Stace is she going ok is the little bairn ok ?
I have a couple questions. for somebody that was raised in a town you sure know everything there is to know about shepherding. I'm wondering who taught you so much? and is there any thing that you were taught as a joke and found out later that it was wrong?
Is there any market for Hebridean sheep fleece?
What do you do with the wool?
❤
Ello
WOOF!
😂❤❤❤❤❤
Now if only we get some sun...
It just rained yesterday...it's been very dry and hot. Predicted to get worse over the next 3 wks... Hard to get outside work done but it is not 120 here...!😮
Sunny here today. Ayr. ☀️🍧😎
Sundays with Sean and company. Always interesting
... SOON be Tomorrow for You 😂 4:29
Excellent work! ….dogs & shearing…..thank you for being patient with the sheep …they are such gentle creatures and like us only want to be loved and treated kindly….shout out to your mum who raised you in The Golden Rule😊
Thank you Sean. Good video ❤❤❤
I enjoy everything you’ve shared so far. The variety keeps me coming back for more!
I bet the Hebrides sheep feel a lot better with all that dark fleece sheared off, with such sunny days and summer weather - warm weather, their naked bodies’ must enjoy the freedom from the thick heavy, dark wool. It’s even better when there are no kicks or cuts from shearing. Well done Sean!
♥️🐶♥️🐶💗🐑💗
They look like they would feel like velvet when they’re done
Teach us a bit more about the landscape thereabouts: types of grasses and trees etc and how the water moves over and under the land and how all that affects herd
LOVELY ALL BORDERCOLLIES, SO SMART, HARDWORKING, SOCIAL, KIND LOVE TO ALL
Sundays are so much better with your videos Sean. I would like to see some videos on how to get in to shepherding. Thank you for posting and I hope everyone has a great week.
Y'all have gorgeous scenic views and marvelous herders!
For me, anything you choose is good. I think if you do a variety of everything, it's more interesting and really as it should be because that's life, isn't it. You never know what the day will bring, so just go with the flow.
Thank you 🐾❤️
I recall from earlier shearing videos that the wool is no longer in demand. Do you eventually find someone to take the wool?
Your right. Just got back from Ireland. They only use merino wool . Ship it in from new Zealand. Went to a private farmer and watched his sheep dogs work. No one wants the coarse wool anymore he can't hardly give it away.
@pamwingo4650 that's a shame. But it can indeed be scratchy.
Maybe someone local?
@@LindaC616 I have wool items and yes you often need to wear something under it. If hand washed with a softener and blocked I've had no problem next too skin.
@@pamwingo4650 interesting. I've been to Ireland 5 tomrs and Scotland once, and no one ever gave me that tip (I've also had bad luck with blocking)
A video on the quality of the wool, and what do you do with the wool.
You do you!, love seeing this!!!!!
Nice Dr John’s merch, loved the video, as always. You always have a good variety in your videos, and I enjoy watching and learning.
That was amazing. You looked like an ARTIST doing his craft.
Totally impressive.😊
