That bass player was tearing this song the FUCK UP
+Justin G If a woman would make love to me the way she made love to that bass I would count myself a lucky man
Yess!!
+sirnumbskull
I know this is crass but, I bet she gives a magnificent HJ with all that finger strength:)
+blueslove61 if you know it's crass, keep it to yourself.
+blueslove61 pathetic, people like you are what's wrong with this world
She's a bloody good bass player.
You can say that again. Rachael's voice is great, but without Bridget on bass, I think this whole thing falls apart.
I think they are all excellent and it wouldn't be the same w/o any of them ... it would be a different band then!! ;-)
+Shirley Marshall agreed! each person adds so much talent!!
Savage bass!
lightsatsparkwood21 j
That bass line is so fucking funky
The girl's got groove.
@@sidneybarrett9524 I love her!
@@coolworx Me too!
I’m in Australia watching this band and thinking they’re the best thing I’ve heard in years. That voice is massive, rich, and expressive. Bass is incredible. These people are not fooling around.
If they are so good then why haven't they composed anything of there own instead of butchering Hall and Oates and Paul McCartney and wings tune let me roll it
If you want to plagerise someone else's work and add instruments at keep up with the original tempo
@@christianbutler4684 not plagiarizing if they are generating royalties for whoever holds the copywrite. Pretty much the only upright bass in contemporary music and she kills it. a killer horn player, and amazing lead and backup vocals and an unique arrangement that is every bit as good as the original. each of them attended the New England Conservatory of Music, so you basically have no idea what you are talking about. You should check out Good Kisser, one of many of their original songs.
@@cometsmommy Agreed :) doing covers is not plagiarising!
@@christianbutler4684 I
@@christianbutler4684 You apparently haven’t heard their originals. They are great! There isn’t a singer currently on the scene that comes close to Rachael Price. The bassist is an excellent songwriter and a great singer as well. As a songwriter myself, I can assure you that when Hall & Oates and Paul McCartney get their quarterly ASCAP statements they are happy that Lake Street Dive is covering their songs.
Gah that bass player is killing it!!!! She is fabulous.
Yes, probably the best stand up bass player I've ever heard.
oh my.....the tones and strings shaking on the wood...and the shaking bass end.....PLUS the mere $$$ of the instrument...WOW WOW WOW. dont need many other instruments with one of these rebellious bad boys around.
With the perfect backup singing too
This is one of the best covers of any song I've ever heard.
It’s a pretty good cover for sure; the bass is amazing. So is Hendrix cover of Dylan’s Watchtower. Elton John covered Lucy ITSWD by the Beatles. John Mayer did an amazing cover of Dylan Like a Rolling Stone. Elvis covered many famous gospel tunes.
Her voice is like a blend of all great past female vocalists from all genres. It's the greatest thing I've seen.
Well put!
... and heard :)))
i agree A wonderful blend
There's a reason for that. Check it out.
indeed
Listen with headphones and focus on that gorgeous BASS LINE by bridgett kierney….My mind is blown. Now, my better half is a classically trained bass player. I shared this with him, and he smiled from beginning to end. And did the jaw drop i anticipated near the end!!! Oh man, this human on the bass- She is singing on the bass. Do you hear it? 🤯you all must!!!! 😄😎👍
Agreed has a Barney Miller flavor as well
@@williamstrasser8854😎 good ear my friend!
Home girl is KILLING IT on that stand up bass!
I keep trying to figure out how Bridgett Kearney's upright bass playing effectively takes the place of Darryl Hall's 6 piece band. She does it all by herself back there. Dang she's special. Oh yes, I enjoyed the rest of it too.
Don McKenzie oh! because it doesn't.
Don McKenzie I hear that!
Mood
Don- One of Bridgett's secrets is the drummer. He's not only playing polyrhythms with the snare and bass drum, he's also playing a tambourine!
@josh grant Absolutely! And she does it like a master. I had to listen to this a few times to really get what she's doing.
man, this Rachael Price's voice is something else, not to mention how talented the other guys are on the respective instruments! they all beyond excel on how they play them, amazing band Lake Street Dive!
I swear this never gets old, a million times later and I'm still in awe.
I challenge anyone to sit perfectly still when watching this. I don't think it is possible.
wvb628 too true!
+wvb628
:) I was bopping out in my chair as I read this comment :)
Not hard when stoned.
LOL!!!!!
ATBenz FACTS! IM AT WORK DANCING IN FULL VIEW OF EVERYONE!
So glad I discovered Lake Street Dive. Rachel has one of the best female voices I ever heard.
Agreed. So unique, and what a powerhouse. Very gifted vocalist.
@@pmb4840 The whole fourtet is amazing. The bass player drives it all.
She has such control of her voice, it almost sounds like a horn! Fantastic!
A keen sense of the obvious is keen.
HotHardware Well I think he did it for comedic effect.
HotHardware yeah right, kinda Ella Fitzgerald ish
the original horn.
jazz singer
This is the video that introduced me to this awesome band.
I hope this video stays on the internet, forever; connecting people across the entire world, as music has always done.
Rachael is such an incredible singer. The whole group, really. I can’t believe they haven’t gone bigger!
They're a little too hipstery to be mainstream
If you’re in the mainstream nowadays it just means you suck. At least most of the time😂 They’re too good to be on the radio
They are real artists, thats why. Midia mainstrain wants puppets, not ART.
Bigger? How big is big enough? They're big enough for me, I spend my time listening to them, and I couldn't care for them to be more successful, as long as they have fun, that's all that matters for me, because they're fun is mine too (and your's!) :)
I think that it was this performance that made me decide to be major fan. The control that all four musicians show over their parts, but the way that they're all feeding off of each other, and then to invite the crowd to sing a verse and seamlessly integrate that into the performance--
It's frickin' magic. This is what makes live music into magic. Great job also by the producers and videographers for capturing this. I feel like I was there. This is about my 20th time watching it, and I still get chills.
I want them to go on Live From Daryl's House!! They'd sound so good.
love the way that trumpet just rides with the voices and bass, great touch, just bright enough to come in and play, but never takes over the lead voice--what a mix.
that last "Bitch" sounded personal lol
I've fully fallen in love. With each one of them. Incredible musicianship.
I love how the lead singer controls the dynamics of the song so effortlessly. That also comes with talented musicians around her taking her vocal cues, watching her body language, and meshing so beautifully together, so props to them too!!
The most unique cover of "Rich Girl" I've heard...love it!
AnimalHouseforReal the besttt cover!! Sooo muchhh soul & funkkk. Their all amazing sooo much talent 💕💕 One of My favorite bands for sure
AnimalHouseforReal
Bass player lays it out.
Can we take a second and acknowledge the bass riff at 2:48
Yes, will do.
What constitutes a riff? i'm illiterate to music lingo
@@sum2085 any progression of notes or chords that an artist finds appealing....it's a smallish section of the greater song. For instance a song may contain a 14 note or chord bridge, that repeats a 7 note or chord progression...or riff.
thanks
Unbelievable! Waiting for her to throw the bass through the wall! The groove cannot be contained.
Amazing!!! Her voice is superb...The Bass player is completely LIGHTS OUT!
Sooooo good. The New England Conservatory of Music should be very proud of their four accomplished graduates.
The BEST group in the world, so much talent, the bass player is outstanding and Rachael is a goddess, love Bridget too.
One of the best upright bassists I've seen. Wow
What an incredible collection of virtuosos? Rachael Price is a force of nature on vocals and Bridget Kearney on bass is equally her match and then some! How is this group not a national treasure?
Off the charts. Incredible. This is everything music is supposed to be. God Bless them all.
Love listening to Lake Street Dive. What a wonderful voice Rachel has.
Tell Rachel something special for me if you can: "Dear Rachel, I've been lonely, depressed, bored stupid and feeling hopeless for over a year. I listened to your singing today, on RUclips, and watched you and the band. I cried. I feel like a new person. I had lost hope on life. I don't know exactly why, but listening to you has revived me."
Love you bro. Keep your head up. This too shall pass.
Man, I hope you are ok! Stay safe and best wishes from me over here!
So true! Been feeling kind of the same now I listen to this at least 3 times a day!
young people discovering the solid musical and spiritual POWER OF 60'S,70'S AND 80'S that is mostly temporarily lost because of the lethal poison of hip hop mentality and gangsta rap that was forced on an unwary generation. THERE IT IS,OTHERS HAVE WRITTEN ABOUT THIS RECENTLY.......
@@jayborn2610 100%
Very soothing and cool as a cookie
Fancy seeing you here!
Everyones is on but Bass player is nailing it. normally hear that play style on electric. Outstanding!
Just when a Sunny Spring Day in Florida couldn't get any better, YOU GUYS ARE THE BOMB ! Keep going and don't look back.
Yo that bass player is legit fire. The whole band is golden!
Yes. Rachel's voice is putting on the flesh, but that bass player is given it skeleton
I do not possess the vocabulary to explain how much I enjoyed this. Very well done!
Yes! Bridgets funky / syncopated bass playing and rich sound of the upright are key, which is allowed to shine because the drummer is stripped down to essentials and the band knows dynamics and of course is just talented. The clean guitar and surprise trumpet playing are also key part of the vibe.
I'm sure you guys don't wanna hear this, but I wish you did more covers. You turn the songs I love into songs I can't live without.
Why don't you hear bands like this on the radio?
Ed Mitchell 93.9 the river Northampton MA. Stream it. They play stuff like this all the time
Ed Mitchell Because the mainstream music consists of rap, and crappy pop music. In other words, it's not popular compared to what you hear on the radio.
+Ed Mitchell They were on NPR not long ago
+Ed Mitchell Most of the present disc jockeys are not independent of corporate radio and have to play what some ignorant a-hole at the corporate level dictates.
Because they over played and wouldn't be special anymore, they would become another shitty pop band that everyone's sick of listening to because they hear there songs 97.9 times per day.
The stand up bass that drives this band is something special. Completely different yet familiar sound. I can't get enough.
When she comes back in after the audience outside sings the chorus, it creates unexpected chills.
This is entertainment, people.
My favorite part! She's so good at coming back in and leveling the place with that voice!
Lake Street's new album "Bad Self Portraits" is out TODAY! Check out their website for more info.
It is their best album by far
LOVE how it all hangs together -- great talent -- perfect blends.
love this...what a beautiful versatile voice....and that BASS player...thanks DOM:)
Duke Ellington was wrong. "There are two kinds of music, the good kind, and the other kind." This music is the great kind. Her voice is incredible, but it's perfectly lifted to transcendence by the band. It's not just one song either, everything this group does is gold.
Lake Street dive is somehow the biggest secret in music. They are so so so good! I love everything they do!
Best most original cover of that song I ever heard!
Thank you woman, you and your band, your rendition is a gift to me. It’s good.
Talent just rises to the top. Love what you're doing.
I'm on a bus home and have heard this song and band so many times and have seen them in concert....listening to this right now made me tear up it is so pure and so good. Every instrument, every voice, every time. Love love love
Absolutely love this girls voice. Still bumpin hard in #2016
This just randomly came up on Spotify. Omg. Obsessed. This is an amazing cover of this song.
Nice work on the trumpet. It's particularly tough to nail the notes with a subdued volume to avoid blasting them out of the small space.
Jim P righto - and on everything - control and energy - all over his register. Part of the group - always...
Exactly! They are all doing that! It's a basement!
I love it when RUclips puts something amazing into my feed! All were awesome, but holy shit, that bass!!! 🔥🔥🔥
So good! When their friends start singing made me smile so much!! And yes the bass player is amazing!!
damn, last week was tough. Monday wasn't pleasant and today was starting off the same. But I turned on this song and my mood has significantly changed and my day seems like its not so bad. I LOVE LAKE STREET DIVE!!!
Just discovered this group on RUclips. The lead singer has an incredible range of singing abilities.
LOVE THE ENERGY FLOWING OUT OF YOUR BASS PLAYER
This is for people who say that covers are never as good as the original
omg i cant discribe how much i love this song and how lake street performs it. So amazing!!!! Will never stop being a fan.
I played double bass in an orchestra for three years, so I know how much work this is. Badass.
What ever you think about humanity... we do beautiful things, like this. Its a great example of how great we can be....
I would love to hear what Hall & Oates think of this remake.
I would love to see this group as a guest on LFDH!
Dude write them a letter and then let me know what they say
Love this band. They have such a unique sound, especially the lead singer! Wow. They really do make these covers their own. My new fav band.
No leader in this band ! They are all leaders ! They just love one thing : Music .... And me also .... especially their music ....They are terrific !!
Used to love this performance when I was in high school. I'm now in college and I'm still lovin' it!
Oh shit..she does Hall & Oates by herself....Props to you, Lake Street Dive!
I think there might be three others besides "herself"!
Thanks, absolutely love it!
Grew up in the back seat listening to Mom playing Carly Simon. Here I am so struck with the vibe Lake Street Dive be putting out. They are a tight band.
can't stop singing this song! she's got a fabulous voice and this cover is fabulous
one of my best discoveries in pandora, they're so good!
God, that was so beautiful. Singer brought me to tears... Then add the band. GOODNESS.
So, one day in 2015 while driving down some random road, Lake Street Dive's cover of Rich Girl played on my Pandora radio. I've been a fan ever since. This band makes ever song they cover their bitch!!! And their originals are out of this world. I am a fan for life!!! One day I will see them in person, it is one of my life goals!!!
Wow - that was incredible!
I am a fan! This band is awesome!
Oh my goodness, Kim! They are awesome...I just finished listening to an hour worth of their music on RUclips, reading about them on Wikipedia, and trying to find a show.
Guess what?
They were here last month:-( And, their next show here (in june) is already sold out. Their coming to Athens, GA June 16th though. Just FYI
Thanks girl! I need to get on that.
M. Simone Boyd They are even better in person...They have such magic. Recently saw them in Northampton AAAAA
matthew norris Thanks for the heads up on their live performances. I plan to see them in July. So, I'm pumped now.
matthew norris Ditto the Northampton show....absolutely mindblowing and if they are to be believed, only a couple of years from playing to five person crowds in dead mill towns. Total musicianship plus charismatic entertainment.
Accidentally stumbled across these guy's! Absolutely love them! Her voice is amazing and pure. 👍🍻
Omfg this bass player. So damn good.
I can't believe how individually talented all the band members are. Bravo!
That bass really sounds good thru my home audio system. First heard this on computer speakers then I casted it to my home system with Polk towers and a Velodyne sub. Wow....these guys are really good.
This band and their performance deservs all admiration - in every aspect! All brilliant musicians and artists, what a fantastic and utmost pleasure it is to listen to them! They should have been most prominent .... What times do we live in?
Killing it on that double bass girrrrl !!!!
You guys absolutely positively.Did this song the highest amount of Justice, well done, Congratulations, my mind is blown

F-ing brilliant, music doesn't get any better than this. Kudos to Rachael, Bridget et al...dancing sharks at the Super Bowl pale in comparison.
Fantastic! The singer’s voice melds perfectly with the trumpet into a beautiful sonic force. Bass and drums impeccable. The bass player lays down one of the sexiest grooves I’ve heard in a long time. Makes me want to learn her instrument.
I found you guys from looking up cover songs of When you where mine, And stumbled into Rachael then i found the band omg this is MUSIC thank you Lake Street
Brings a whole new meaning to Drum and Bass
A shockingly good voice. unbelievable
This group is amazing! Her voice is amazing. I keep listening to more!
What a show off! in a really good way. Goddess style. Where you deserve it. DAMN, she can sing.
SO amazing, I was not expecting such an explosively good show. Thanks all of you!
Just saw them recently. Fantastic band! My band does Hypotheticals. That bass line is so groovy and very tricky! Bridget is a heckuva bass player!! 😎
Just saw them live September 2024 in Minneapolis and they were amazing!!!
