      lol I don't think people hated the character as much as the AI behind it. Nobody expected her to grab a TMP and start spraying and praying the villagers right next to Leon, but at least dont stand right in my scope when I'm trying to protect you or run straight into enemies' arms then scream LEEEOOON when you get grabbed. It just caused a lot of little frustrations like that during gameplay, and people started associating her constant screaming for help with these issues. And since half the gamers arent mature enough to articulate the exact problem they're having, everything just turns into memes, which over time evolved into "AsHLeY = BaD".
      The remake not only improved her AI, but actually utilized her during gameplay and made her much more helpful to Leon (useful to the player), which made gameplay with her so much more enjoyable. But in terms of story/lore both the original and the remake Ashleys are fine by me, they're just slightly different interpretations of the character, but they both play their role in the story well. The remake Ashley is more mature, so to me personally she's a bit more likeable, but they're both fine either way.

    I love Ashley's and Leon's relationship in the game, it's so well done. The scene were he comforts her and she realizes he is infected too is top notch. It also shows how he never gives up with what he says to her. She also gathers up courage within her capabilities and they both end up being a proper team in the end. 10 out of 10 game.

Not only did we get an idea of how he got as strong as he did (which could be put together from information gathered from other places, but i like that info about Leon came from a game focusing on Leon), but it touched on the psychological effects surviving RC had on him, which made him more human (imo). One of the biggest changes is right at the start of the game, and makes the intro 10x better imo:
    In the original, Leon doesn't speak any Spanish, so he can't understand what the Ganados are saying. He asks in English if the Ganado has seen Ashley Graham anywhere nearby, to which the Ganado basically tries to shoo Leon away before trying to kill him. This sparked a bit of a meme in the fanbase, since it kind of looks like Leon kills an innocent villager who was just trying to protect his home from an unknown, armed stranger.
    In the remake, Leon first asks the Ganado in Spanish if he has seen a police officer, gets no response and then finds the bloodied badge of the cop. The Ganado swings an axe at Leon, who then kills him.

      @DilTinman Год назад +3

      @@OWmyDragonballz No, they didn't.
      I don't know why people use the line of the jungle as a confirmation of that, because there's more than one jungle in the world.
      As for the document, the events depicted in it are not at all even close to what happened in Darkside Chronicles, and Krauser was the only survivor of the Operation meaning Leon couldn't have been there. Alot of people like to play the what-if game of "well the note could have been scrubbed of any involvement of Leon" and that makes no sense considering the only information scrubbed from the note was Krauser's name (it mentions him as Major, so that's how we're for sure it's Krauser), the author of the note's name, and what is presumed to be the author's name again, but mentioning he's been killed.
      That last point is the second reason why the idea of they scrubbed Leon's involvement for it falls apart because that would mean the note was an inaccurate retelling of the events, but if that was the case there would have been no reason to silence the person who wrote it. This also wasn't done to keep Krauser's survival of the operation a secret either so he could act like he was dead the entire time because Leon never once mentions how he thought Krauser was dead in the remake.
      Beyond that, anytime Leon and Krauser talk about the actual events of the operation, they both talk as if Leon was an outsider to the operation. Leon never tries to empathize with Krauser with things like "I was there too, i know what you went through but i didn't turn out the same as you", instead he sympathizes with him with lines like "What happened in that event was horrible but i didn't think it would turn you into this." These aren't verbatum lines or anything, but it's the kind of lines that were said.
      Also i don't know where this video got the idea that Javier in Darkside Chronicles was a drug lord, it was never mentioned as such. That game says he was "known for his extravagant lifestyle" implying he was just some rich dude who tried to get in with Umbrella. You can make assumptions all you want but there was never any confirmation of anything like a drug cartel being involved in the original from what i remember.
      And also going back to the note, if we're to assume the events depicted are accurate, and i've given my reasons as to why they clearly are, there's no mention of bioweapons anywhere, meaning nothing from the original happened at all.

This plus a few other details makes me think (and hope) that they'll go a little bit further in updating the story to be "better" for future remakes. What I think is interesting is in the original during the jetski escape Leon says “hang on tight, sweetheart” while in the remake he says “hope you like thrill rides” Leon kinda friendzones Ashley in both games (Asking him to be her bodyguard was like her asking him out) but getting rid of the sweetheart line made it easier to do that and it just fit Leon more. It’s more in character of him to have a one liner now rather than a flirty comment especially to someone you only see as a friend
      Ashley wasn’t just Leon’s mission anymore she seemed like a genuine friend to him now after they both helped each other so much and I hope we see more of their friendship in future games or movies maybe a 2nd season of Infinite Darkness

    One thing I’m glad with the remake is how much it ended up expanding on and fleshing out the story. For the original, Shinji Mikami treated it as an afterthought since he primarily focused on making the game fun, and so the plot is more or less an entertaining but mindless action movie. And one thing Mikami stated in interviews that he hoped Capcom changed in the remake was making the story better, which they certainly did in the remake. In this new version, it feels far bleaker and more grounded, like you’re actually going up against this creepy and dangerous cult that have turned an entire group of people into mindless slaves. And that along with expanding on Luis and Krauser’s role by making Luis a researcher for Umbrella and referencing Operation Javier from Darkside Chronicles, adding more lore for Mendez and Salazar, making Leon and Ashley’s parasites feel like less of an afterthought by adding more scene with them struggling with it and even giving Leon hallucinations at certain points, and having Ashley slowly warm up to Leon instead of trusting him right away are all additions that I largely appreciated.
    The only character I felt got a notable downgrade was Ada, as she gets *less* screentime than in the original (all her scenes with Krauser were cut…in fact, in the remake I don’t think she’s affiliated with Krauser *at all* anymore, along with the scene where Leon chokes her due to the parasite), and there’s nothing really added to compensate for her reduced role. It’s something I hope gets rectified in future Seperate Ways DLC, which has been rumored/datamined. People are also theorizing that she could possibly have a boss fight against the second Verdugo, since it just disappears in the remake without explanation, instead of fusing with Salazar like in the OG.

    • @Me-bj4uf
      @Me-bj4uf Год назад +2

      Salazar got an extreme downgrade imo. He has no presence. The comically evil characters were a lot more entertaining then these restrained ones. Saddler as well was much more charismatic in the original. It kind of sucks in that regard cause re8 had very over the top characters as well who were so entertaining. I am pretty sure most of the Ada scenes will be in seperate ways which tbh she didn't have much more screentime in the original outside of seperate ways and operation Ada.

    • @amirgarcia547
      @amirgarcia547 Год назад +6

      @@LuigiaTV Honestly while I do prefer Salazar and Saddler in the OG game due to the entertaining banter they had with Leon, I think the remake versions of them are pretty solid too due to leaning far more into their creepiness and unrepentant evil instead. Salazar is given a lot more backstory that better demonstrates why he decided to excavate the Plaga despite the lengths his ancestors went to seal them away, and Saddler in particular I think got the best changes. Since due to expanding on Leon and Ashely being affected by the plaga, they made him this constant presence who haunts them throughout the game instead of just showing up randomly and then disappearing like in the original. And then once he eventually does show up in the island, you can tell right away how much of a threat he is, and with Leon only manages to survive each encounter with him through the skin of his teeth.

    What I loved about the remake was how essential the merchant was in the story with the various dialogues, notes, and background clues to piece things together.
    It is implied the Merchant played both sides by providing weapons to Leon and the Los illumandos. The latter having access to RPG and cross bows, while Leon was the only one with all the good firearms. Everytime we spend money on him and sell him treasure, we crippled the cult's funding.
    The merchant is a local since he knows his way around the village, castle, and island to set up shop and fancy shooting galleries.
    Strong implication that the Merchant was from a noble family that served the Salazar family in fighting and suppressing the las plagas for centuries. This is implied thru his various request missions that show a disdain for the cult, Ramon, and their impact in the area. The request notes weren't just for Leon, but for anyone left alived and willing to commit some anti-cult activtives for some rewards.
    The merchant in the original was a ganados that retained his humanity, but in the remake it is vague. In a advertisement notes he left behind and at the shops are methods to repel the ganados such as flash bang grenades he carried and the colored flames seen in the Ashley's segment. The merchant knows he is not invinicible, but is willing to risk doing business to achieve his goals.
    Lastly he did not initially worked alone. He mentioned he has allies that marked hidden treasure by the cult, lost allies due to the plagas monsters and various wildlife roaming around, and he thanks Leon on the behalf of his compatriots for finishing the last request.

    Spoilers alert
    Basically, it's a hive mind, so if Sadler dies, all the people who Sadler controls also die, or the plagas go in a panic attack, which is kinda crazy

    Something you missed is that Ramon is the 8th generation Salazar. And it was the 2nd generation that sealed it and it would said that the 7th gen was murdered by a devil which one can speculate it being Ramon due to his nature and also it states he has an illness that should’ve killed him which explains his acceptance of las plagas.

    Krauser, luis and ashley were the biggest improvements from the remake, krauser went from a complete stranger who nobody knew and just came out of nowhere and had no serious story and just working for wesker for no reason, to this absolutely badass knife master who actually has a tragic and good story and his story, dialagues and tension with leon is so damn good, his boss fight is perfection. Luis went from an unknown side character who just died and we were like: oh no he died, anyway let's continue to one of the most tragic and good re characters which had a huge difference, and then ashley is obvious, her chemistry with leon, and she is actually helpful, sweet, nice and not annoying, the biggest downgrade was definitely ada and salazar for me, Salazar's boss fight was definitely better, one of my favorites, but overall his character was better in the og, I really loved ada, I had no problem with her voice actor, but still she was better in the original.

    • @GlitchyHalo
      @GlitchyHalo Год назад

      Yeah I was glad that being a damsel in distress who later crushed on Leon wasn’t Ashley’s main personality you can still see it a bit but not as much as the original

    One thing that just stood out as weird to me in the remake was why Ashley was even in the village. I don't see any reason why she would've needed to be transported there when she could've been brought straight to the Island, where she could've arrived by boat, or even likely by plane (since the Island seems very military base-like).
    In the original, when they show Ashley getting the Las Plagas injection, she did seem to be in a lab of some sort. Why would they put her in the Church after?

    • @GlitchyHalo

    I love Saddler more in the remake it brings more as originally he's a cheesy cult leader who wants to extort money from the US with Ashley's kidnapping who comes and goes whenever the plot needs him. In the remake, Saddler believes in his own bullshit which is much more interesting, his reach is far so he doesn't need to appear physically but when he does it's all the more intimidating.

      What BS? His vision for the world was really quite feasible and might've been realized if not for Leon and Ada. Or do you mean BS in the sense that a harmonized world at the cost of free will wouldn't actually be better, as Saddler believes?
