I'm a long time, hardcore sims player but it wasn't until I did the Love After a Breakup scenario that I realized I don't really set up backstories for my sims. I just.... start playing. But that scenario really fleshed out the characters for me when the ex-husband immediately took a liking to the Heckings (they came during the welcome wagon) and I decided that he and his wife broke up because he finally came out. Now he and his ex wife are going to navigate living together after being broken up and trying to stay friends. I never would have started a family like this if not for the scenario.

Exactly! I keep hearing the complaint that "What if your computer is broken or you're on vacation or something", but the thing is you could still do that exact scenario just without the popup box. Idk, these just make the game feel so much more dynamic which I love.

A lot of people don't understand what a small percentage of the playerbase is actually comprised of "the Sims community" i.e. the one that is vocal and engaged on social media. We're not the majority of players. And a lot of the quieter demographics have never been engaged in fandom or gaming spaces and have no idea that user-made challenges are out there. For them, this is a really fresh and fun idea that spices up gameplay.

I did this scenario using a Lilsimsie microhome (with 98/100 tiles). It worked great. It was one where there was one bedroom, an office (with a big aquarium that I took out and put in other things that were useful for the aspiration), an open plan living/kitchen. It had a fenced backyard, a wishing well and a partially fenced front yard. It probably started on a tiny lot but I put it on a 30x20 so that I could have room for gardening (rather than just the two tiny pots that came with the house) and for a rocket ship. I manage to get a pool as well. I used the Nerd Brain aspiration as the beginning (but had to add a table top bookshelf for books.) While I generally play on "long life", I think I could probably have done it on "short life" easily.
I agree that these are too easy if you're going to use them as "one and done." I can see them useful more for when someone needs an idea for starting out.

I actually do like the scenarios. The one thing I really didn’t like about scenarios is the household restriction- I tried to start the well-rounded challenge today with a young adult sim and her cat from my library. It wouldn’t let me start the scenario with “additional sims” in the household. It did say I could add them later but that’s just extra work going back into CAS to merge the households and remove the duplicate sim for no good reason just so I can use a cat I already created. Also like the too many toddlers one - I had this story idea that I would do it like the big sibling challenge and have a teen who suddenly was left in charge of their triplet siblings to add some additional challenge - but the scenario required a young adult. I wish there was some more flexibility with this.

Hi Kayla! I've found out that the best bet for Tiny Homes is to use Loft Beds and call it a day. Like, you can even make a tiny bedroom with the loft bed, doesn't take too much space, and under the loft bed you can fit a comfy couch or a small desk with a computer and a chair, all in the same tiles that the loft bed is (so, 3x1 for a bed, desk, computer and a chair). If you choose to make a bed-living room, a couch fits well enough and you can put a TV in front of it. Again, 3x1 for couch and bed. That leaves soooo much space for other items or even a nicer kitchen. You're an amazing builder buy maybe my experience helps LOL

Yesterday I was playing with a family with toddlers and realised the tent that comes with interior decorating pack is soooo useful if I ever play micro or tiny home with toddlers. Two can nap/sleep in it, it also can be use to develop imagination skill. And it takes the same place than two toddlers beds, but toddler bed you need tiles next to it. And... now I wanna play a tiny home challenge...

Level 10 in 3 skills is still very common. You get one from just cooking, second from fixing stuff or getting your other needs filled. Like video games or charisma (especially as you have to make friends in this one). And you get third from either your work on aspiration or during leveling up your job. This is probably the weakest challenge out of them all.
3:00 Major issue with you top level Sims Partners - you always forget that Washing Machines exist. Also you could have used the Cottage Living oven for extra space.
3:50 Environment buffs are actually very important for speedrunning.
4:40 It came with Tiny Living cause the theme was multiusable items. Its sidetable that lights up.
5:35 Also to maximise space - its always good to put some solar panels on top of it all. It's a free income.
6:30 I genuinely wish that they would edit utility cheats to be actually usable. This could have been a 3 letter cheatcode...
6:35 He definitely should be able to go there. They fixed the beds like months ago and they are actually as usable and accessible as they should normally be.

    • @DoveJS
      @DoveJS 2 года назад +1

You can't slot items onto that standing light though! Biggest disappointment and missed opportunity. Also, the washing machines have been buggy and I don't remember if EA ever fixed them. If they did, that'd be nice, but there are better buffs out there for the time spent. Upgrading it while maxing the repair skill would be really useful if she decided to focus on that. In general, I agree with you: this is a very easy/typical challenge, which is why she wants to try Speed-running it. I think her choice of Aspiration and skills will make or break her time so I'm curious to see how it goes.

This! Also, once you're done, you can spend their points however you want, finish setting them up, save them to your library, and then drop them into future saves as well-dressed townies. I'm still playing my Too Many Toddlers fam, after finishing the challenge, but I wanted to re-use them so I bought papa the rewards so he wouldn't freeze or burn to death out in the elements. It came in handy because I also had a lot of blizzards that winter.
Actually, very first day of the challenge, it was Autumn, he met his apartment landlord, I took everyone to the Willow Creek park (I'd added the Toddler Stuff slide and such), and the landlord froze to death because the weather had shifted and he wasn't in his cold weather gear. I was irked because the guy was cute but he was a landlord anyway so screw 'im. I wasn't about to scum-save just for him! 😂 But I did pause and rescue a whole group at the Windenburg lounge from freezing to death by adding in those patio heaters. They didn't deserve that even if they were the idiots who invited me to a pool party in winter. Look, Papa needed some Me-time after taking care of three toddlers all day every day. He had to chillax with some adults for a bit (and I think it was the dead landlord who invited my Sim btw lol I know he was there. Revenge?! 🤣)

My favourite that I’ve done is my garden witch with an outdoor kitchen, so she can have a nice spacious living space, bedroom and bath, it gives off dark vintage micro-cottage vibes

I am having fun with the scenarios but like lilsimsie I personally like to make them a bit more challenging.
For the 'Finding Love After Breakup' I played with vampires in Glimmerbrook to make it a bit spicy, it was funny and chaotic to balance the vampire needs with their emotional needs of the breakup.
Then for the toddlers challenge I made it more so challenging by living in Henford-On-Bagley and used the simple living lot trait and also made it a goal to send the mom sim to university, I also only allowed her to have a part-time job and used the welfare module from the snb mod to help with nanny fees. It was a lot of fun and very challenging and I am still playing with that file!
With this 'Perfectly Rounded' challenge I plan on making an elder sim on normal lifespan and try to beat the clock and complete the scenario before they die haha. May the odds ever be in my favor ;)

Really Enjoyed Too Many Toddlers, trying to do a similar speedrun for the new one. I like them. I think some career ones would be cool, like ones that don't go with a pack or an aspiration... IDK!
As always thank you Kayla you are awesome!

I like the scenarios. I wish there were a way to string scenarios together for a complete storyline though! Imagine doing multiple scenarios with a single household. Maybe one right after the other.

Move objects helps so much, I literally built a functional microhome last night lol! As long as there's no budget you can get a laptop and move it in and out of your sims inventory as needed (love using bartop tables for eating/laptops) and now that sims can watch tv in bed you dont even need a couch. I was also able to fit a three by two bathroom and get a tub in it, very proud of myself on this one. 😊

For a skill-based speedrun, I'd also put a bathtub (for Spa Day's bath soaks), a tea brewer and a yoga mat to get your sim in a better mood, improving skill gains (yoga and bath soaks' effects are improved with incense). Clubs also help (join the Powerhouse and see your fitness skill skyrocket 🚀🚀)

I'm enjoying them! Sometimes it's fun to have a goal.
I'm still playing my too many toddlers family. I used their reward points to get the savant perk and am trying to max all their skills for every stage of life.

I would like a plant or a pet scenario that is kinda like the Too Many Toddlers challenge, but with tons of plants or cats. A robotics, freegan, or eco scenario would be fun, too.

Personally I like scenarios. I like that’s it’s an option. The game doesn’t force you to play scenarios but it’s a nice gameplay option if you want to. I’ve tried the “Love after a breakup” one and I had a lot of fun with it!
I might borrow Stanley and his house to do this as well!

oh I like the scenarios! I actually started a new save, abandoning my other twelve saves and challenges that I should be playing to try the Perfectly Well Rounded one out. But I'm not speed running it, I'm using it as an opportunity to properly try out the eco lifestyle features 🙈

I played the Too many toddlers twice. The first time went well, the second time was a disaster. I have KawaiiStacie's MODs Slice of Life and Better Education; one or both MODs made one toddler a slower learner AND sleepy all the time. 😫 So while the other two toddlers were nearly done, this toddler was still at level 1s. 😵

At the moment, I for one am not really enjoying the scenarios but as you said, I'm looking forward to seeing where they will go with it. Don't get me wrong though, I for sure like it that they added this as an option. I just think it needs to develop. BTW, SUGGESTION ON WHICH SKILLS TO CHOOSE: Vampire lore counts too XD and you don't even need to get it to level 15! 10 will really do! Or at least, it did for me. Happy gaming!

I really like scenarios!! I'm so surprised how many people dislike them. I have been playing in the same legacy save FOREVER so it's really forcing me to branch out and make new sims. But it's taking me literally 6+ hours just to get the sims set up in CAS and with a perfect house so maybe this is why I never make new saves XD
