Damn that start up music is the angelic ring of my childhood. It’s like a zen bell that brings you back into reality. Like opening up a door to another world. PlayStation days were just entrancing… I miss the mystique.
"I miss the mystique" I bought this game when I was 13 and I spent the entire train ride home from the city reading the manual before I could finally play it - and when I did finally play it, I didn't stop until a month later when I had finished it. This whole fiasco just happened to come at a time when my region experienced an unseasonable amount of rain and grey skies so it was like fate was on my side. I'm pretty sure the main reason I was so enthralled with this game was 'the mystique', as you put it. It was like the entire universe was conspiring to make this game more alluring.
I remember borrowing this game when I got my PS in 1998. Played it through overnight. Great atmosphere. That soundtrack is still on my phone. Timeless.
Yea this is one of those "take you right back" ones for me too. This, and Space Hulk (squad based horror) were some of the 1st true 3D FPS's we'd seen so its fondly remembered. Another seriously tense & atmospheric oldskool semi-related FPS is the Atari Jaguar version (possibly an exclusive) of Alien Vs Predator. If any pseudo-3D FPS could claim to frighten, it was AVP on the Jag! IIRC, like Trilogy, AVP had a good OST too, but then I guess a lot of PS1 games did!
I remember playing this, Fade to Black, Resident Evil and Dino Crisis for the first time...... So Atmospheric and engaging. Have to mention Syphon Filter as well.
I had this game .. for me I couldn't believe I had this at anytime I liked in my bedroom ...the PS1 was brilliant at the time ..the music is amazing too
I've completed it on easy a few times but that's still proper hard, especially the last 4 or 5 levels. I'd imagine on normal or hard it will be near impossible to complete.
If you have a PC they have a doom 2 mod called alien eradication that uses alot of stuff from this game like models, soundtrack etc and it's brilliant!! Well worth a look 👌
I remember all the weekend and full nights when I used to play the fabulous trilogy !! So incredible to think about all gaming pleasure so simples game could give us at the time... good old time !
One of my favourite ever games on PS 1, still go back every now and again and play it again from the start, brilliant soundtrack with genuine eerie atmosphere, great video ❤️👍
The first playstation game I ever played. Never even heard of a playstation. My best mates dad bought one. My mate said you gotta see this. I was blown away. Games on CD!!! We were blown away. Still got my ps1 2 3 4 and now 5. In my mind the PS2 will always be the best. First online play. But Aliens scared the shit outta me. Best game ever.
When I was about 7/8 I was gifted a PS1 - about the most expensive thing I was ever gifted throughout my childhood. It came with Final Fantasy VII, Alien Trilogy, and I think Tomb Raider III. I remember being TERRIFIED of this game, but it arguably helped start me love affair with the games that it ripped off. Although, even years later when I replayed it, it managed to retain a very creepy atmosphere. Also, I never got past the level with all the Alien handler robots in white and the masses of acid pits! I could never kill enough enemies despite thinking I'd covered the whole map.
Used to play this game on a Satuday, after going out Friday night and hitting it hard. Was amazing, scarey. This, Tenchu and Abs Oddsey, MGS, Crash and Colin Mcray were my favourites.
great game, shame they didnt include ripleys voice acting when she gets injured, the pc version she says things like "gotta get out of here" and "thats all you got!?"
What I love about these games (and the Jaguar AvP game) is that there is no one constantly talking in your ear and telling you what to do. It really adds to the feeling of being truly alone in this horrible place. The way more cinematic newer Aliens and AvP games kind of ruin this by having the player constantly talk to someone in a control room or meeting other soldiers etc.
PlayStation 1 games man... One of the best era 's for game soundtracks! I remember a couple games had 'hidden ' soundtracks too, like Loaded. When I was trying to get the music working with ePSXe, I did something wrong and ended up accidentally replacing the "actual soundtrack" of each level with those hidden tracks (unless playing on a real PS1)
Played this on my sega saturn. Something about the music, art, and level design was so creepy. The way the aliens just jumped out of nowhere was really scary
I loved this game back in the day. Never finished it though. Now I don’t have to. 😊 15:56 Great soundtrack. I remember rocking out to this song back in the nineties. 😂 18:01 I never made it to this level. I guess this is where I tapped out when I was 14. I wasn't expecting much but those graphics are actually really good. Its not as much about how detailed and varied the levels are but how cohesive the art style is

@@u960 well as Amanda Ripley herself once said, you get used to it. Ahhh Come On. You have not heard of Alien Isolation, sir??? That game is what an "Alien" game is meant to be. Think of it: At least the first two Alien films were more about tension and fear being built on feelings of isolation and desperation and fear of the unknown, and so a Survival Horror type of game is the perfect type of game. If you wanted to reflect something like Alien 3, then yeah you'd have a pure shooter.

Same here! It was my first experience of an FPS ^^
Same
It was good, but kinda relaxing compared to Aliens Vs Predator on the Atari Jaguar, LOL.... That is the scariest shit of a game I've ever played.
I know right 👍..I was always low on ammo for some reason
I watched the films first before playing.
