🤔 Can't imagine who might've sent those wonderful books. 😬 Somewhat off topic: can I just say _thank you_ for talking about the Pibble that you met so lovingly. ❤️ When I have mentioned to people (online, mostly) that I have a Pit, I'm sometimes told that I should just put her down because they shouldn't exist. Some people...🙄
Those are the people that don’t understand that the owners are the problem (in cases there’s a problem with a specific dog), never the dogs 😎 One of my dogs keeps jumping our fence and I wholly put the blame on me. I just don’t know how to prevent him doing that 🤷♀️
You know you're from a similar era when you're thinking about the "Are we going to Addis Addaba Mr. Luthor!?x 😂 I still can't hear that line without giggling.
All three of those Stark books are Grofield stories rather than pure Parker. Still hardboiled but closer to Westlake territory than the main series. I spent around a decade sourcing and reading all Stark's work in publication order. It was one of my most satisfying reading projects. Westlake's Dortmunder books are very hard to find second hand, but I'll track them down eventually.
Ah, a book haul after my own heart! I remember reading and loving Emilie Loring when I was in my late teens and early twenties. She and Grace Livingston Hill were go-to authors for me back then. Loring's papers are in the Mugar Library, so you should think about writing that biography she deserves! 👑 And I've also read "You'll Like My Mother" ! I haven't thought about that book in years, but the moment you mentioned it, I recognized the title. There was also a movie based on the book, starring Patty Duke and Richard Thomas sometime in the early seventies. I watched the movie first and then read the book, both of which I enjoyed. That was back in my gothic phase. Now I should get back to the video to see what other goodies you've garnered! (Edited to add that all 3 of your new Lorings appear to be from early in her career.)
I've often heard you talk about people for whom there is no biography. Now you tell me about someone there isn't a biography on, who no one knows more about than you... so perhaps you should write one. Even if it's not likely to be a best seller, it'll go some way towards preventing them from being completely forgotten
This has been a trip down memory lane! I loved Asey Mayo and Emma Lathen. Thanks Steve.💙💙💙
Almost all of Lathen is on kindle for quote cheap
Superb!!👍 so many old names reminding us to return to them. Victoria Holt tonight 😂. Thanks Steve!

Vermont? Was it the cute german shepherd who sent you the books or was it Frieda's favourite cat?
What fun. But did he ship all that?!
My Mystery Donor didn't ship anything, no!
Hiya Steve, watching from Addis Ababa.
Legendary.
Steve! If you like Richard Stark I just know you’ll love the author George Stark.
What about Tony Stark?
"Otto von Bismarck licks my face every day."
What? Elizabeth Peters has another murder mystery series and you're telling me about it only now?
Why is this not against the rules?!
I remember reading First Person Rural and Victoria Holt was a favorite author in the 70s. Such fun to see these!
