    why is Ma clockwise in the cantilever beam? The fixed wall was supposed to resist the clockwise rotation of the beam due to its weight right?

      annoying engineering conventions, the moment was positive in the clockwise (weird, cos it meant to be anti=positive) to make the downward slope appear to like the real beams bend

    What if we drew the unit moment the other direction? Would it be okay as long as we stay consistent with the influence line?

      We set theta equal to one because we assume a unit rotation or 1 rad.
