Great reaction - and happy birthday Su-metal, 27 today.🥳 'Megitsune' is one of their older songs, released in 2013 and the first song after they separated from their parent group to become an independent band, it has regularly topped fan polls for favourite song - they have also played it live more than any of their songs.
It reflects a lot of the Japanese culture starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen) in the intro and the lyrics about women being mistaken for or likened to foxes (kitsune - which also explains the fox mask Su was behind in the breakdown🦊) which in Japanese mythology are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength.
They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not deceptive shape-shifting kitsune (foxes), they are human megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The intro before the song and the breakdown in the middle of the song uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su spoke a few words and did a high kick she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. They have played a couple of concerts over the years with an all-female audience (Red Mass and Red Fox Festival) and you can imagine how well this song went at those.🦊
Hell yeah man, this is a fan favorite, and an absolute classic. IMO, one of the best representation of “what is Babymetal” in one singular song. Babymetal’s 5th song ever (2013), and the first single as an independent band. They’ve also played this song _THE_ most live. Clocking in with over 380 performances to date. During the breakdown, it has become a tradition for Moa and Momo to mess with Su on stage 😂. Megitsune means “female fox”. Traditionally, it can be a derogatory term to label a woman as “two faced” or deceptive. This is a deep song dispelling that notion as Babymetal encourages girls to be themselves, since the traditional definition of “an ideal woman” is changing with the march of time. 🤘🦊
Nice one, thanks! "Megitsune" is one of their most loved songs and their most played live one: 382 times... and counting! It was released in June 2013 being one of their biggest hits. And yes, it's also one of my very TOP favorite songs. The style sub-genre is electronicore, a mix between electronica and metalcore with a hardcore style breakdown. It was composed by Norikazu Nakayama (aka Norimetal), my favorite BABYMETAL composer. It took 36 demos to Takehiro Mamiya best known as Yuyoyuppe (or Yuppemetal), the song's arranger, until Kobametal (their producer) was 100% happy with the final result. It may sound crazy but this is why "Megitsune" is one of their best songs (if not the best). BABYMETAL fans are known collectively as "The ONE" and "kitsune" / "megitsune" (male/female fox) individually. ⬇Guess why we put a "kitsune up" like here? 😁 🤘🦊
Excellent and thanks for listening to your audience. Suggest a reaction to some classic BABYMETAL: Karate LIVE at 2016 Download Festival in the UK where 60,000+ British metal heads sing along with the girls.
If you do react to the 2016 Karate Live above I suggest that you do a follow up (in the same reaction) of a more recent performance of Karate LIVE at Budokan 2021 HQ Pro Shot from the ferr channel. 2 great performances of the song.
Arguably BM's most representative song (full of J-cultural/folklore references, J-onomatopoeia/exhortations & J-electronicore synth sounds), & one of a bunch of their great 'festival songs' (along with Headbanger, Pa Pa Ya, Metali, Ratatata). BM also has several aesthetically 'anthem songs' (Ijime Dame Zettai, Road Of Resistance, Karate, Leave It All Behind), as well as electrifying live tunes (Gimme Chocolate, BxMxC, Kingslayer, Sis.Anger) & addictively-catchy 'oldies' (Doki Doki Morning, Catch Me If You Can, Onedari Daisakusen) that always made audiences go absolutely apeshit. It remains to see where their current song Bekhauf falls under (yet to be performed live). Honestly, BM currently has 60+ songs in their repertoire, & about half of them tend to be shortlisted as one's personal favorites. The quality (especially live versions) is that good. Welcome to the Fox Hole.
🍑 ⚡ 💕 / 🦊 ⛩ The Japanese word for fox is kitsune. "Megitsune" (meh-gee-tsoo-neh) is a female fox. Four syllables. That "ts" is like the end of the word "hats". As they explain in the song, they're not foxes, not deceiving, but maiden-like female foxes. And the hand sign is not the Devil's horns, it's a fox sign. You need to extend your thumb, ring and middle finger. : )
Nice reaction! One of my favorite songs, if not the top 1. Although it's not the Legend 43 version that I mentioned before, this PIA Arena version is my favorite, mainly because of the interaction with the audience in the middle and the little solos that occur in the background while doing so.
Cool reaction man. If you keep going with Babymetal you are in for quite a ride. These huge concerts would be awesome, but I'm glad I saw them in a smaller venue.
I believe this is BM's most performed songs and most likely their most popular. It is a banger and never more so than right here. You picked a good one to react to.
I recommend going back 10 or 11 years and work your way up to the presence to see how they matured over the years. They were clos to babies when they started. Su is the oldest and she just turned 27 a few days ago.
Annnd here we go man another one down the foxhole for eternity. Can't wait til I've seen you a few times at shows in the next decade or two... Shit's addictive xD.
This must have been both magical and brutal to Momo. Knowing she was so close to being Momometal but one more concert to put on first. Then the mic and we all get to hear her wonderful voice. Such a perfect addition.
Nice reaction. For me, one of the best Babymetal tracks still. Their standard song. When it Was in development, they already knew, this is something big 33 differentversions More than Ratatata has. It was based on a fairy tale about female foxes that can appear as humans. Abd if they have lived long enough as humans and leave husband and Kits alone. For european and American EArs it sounds strange. And for japanese kids it sounds strange. A japanese Fox is a Kitsune, a female Kitsune is a Megitsune. And this song explains that this tale is not the truth all women are actresses, you should never elieve your eyes. They us Makep to hide their Tears. A womes raises like a firework it Bloomberg and disappears in the same moment.. this mix of ancient motives and a new Story is the se ret of this song. As Su descri es it contains elements of an Enki that she still can't handle.

Happy birthday killerqueen 🥰 Su ❤❤❤
Happy birthday My absolute Queen🎉🎂🎁
Megitsuni is the first song I watched babymetal that made me addicted 🙌🙌
They know how to deliver a show, it's what they do best and work hard on.
Please try "Road of Resistance at PIA Arena". A typical power metal song.
