Does this work , as We just lost 4 red tomatoes and the leaves eaten , I don't want to buy BT , as we love walking around our garden & picking cherry tomatoes an eat them. I don't want to have to put chemicals on all my garden . Does this work on everything?? Thank u Mrs josette Montgomery County, Texas
I have been using a tulle cloth for most of the growing season to keep the moths from laying eggs on the plant in the first place. It will minimize the eggs/larva that turn into the worms. But eventually when the tomato plant started to get too big I removed the cloth and they will get a few. I had 11 tomato plants this year and only one of them got a heavy infestation because I had them in pots; I was able to keep most of them covered with tulle fabric for a longer time, but one of plants in full sun grew faster and I took the tulle fabric off early. I counted 13 tomato horn worms that I hand picked off the plant. Next year I will keep the tulle fabric on longer with a higher homemade cages. I do a video on using tulle for organic pest control on my channel. Thanks for the cayenne tip.
Hey there my husband and I watched your video we picked about 10 of these bugs off of our tomatoes plants out of curiosity we sprayed them with the solution we use on our rose bushes and it killed these bugs instantly its just water and blue dawn dish soap
Just tried this on our tomato plants. Found a few gnarly worms all over. Worms removed then sprayed thoroughly. Held off on the cayenne pepper - got spooked by a few comments here that people experienced burns on plant when pepper applied.
They are good and bad, the bad part is? They don't know when to stop eating, and chew the plant down! The good part is? what leaves they do eat. Make the peppers plants put on more peppers and growth. When i pull the worm off the plants they got a death lock on them. So i have to hold the stem, to pull them off! and STEP ON THERE ASSES. So black lighting my tomato's, peppers and things >> really helps 👍😊 Humm if i can only get the tomato worm, to just trim my plants for me 😆
I usually use dawn detergent and water in a spray bottle and it had been working wonderfully and my tomato plants were thriving. I stopped for a few weeks and yesterday I found a huge hornworm on one of the vines and freaked out; so I began researching how to get rid of the worms and came across this video. I made another solution using dawn detergent and water. I sprayed the plants first and then sprinkled on the pepper. I went out this morning to check my plants and it wasn’t a pretty sight. The pepper will destroy your plants. I rinsed off as much as I could and I’m hoping they will survive.
Have you tried letting the pepper sit and absorb into the water/soap mix? I find this interesting but calculating the cost of pepper sprinkled over the plant is not practical in my case.
Little concerned it might kill my plants washed the soap off but didn’t really have much on them did they already absorb it? Well it was worth a try either my plants die due to worms or this let’s see. Next time once I kill all the bugs I’ll just wash them right after.
This is wrong. Peppers are do not harm worms in any way, because the chemicals that make it "hot" only bind to a specific type of receptors found in mammals. (That's why birds and insects have no problems eating peppers). Also, dried peppers often contain spores of fungus that can infect tomato plants quite readily as both peppers and tomatoes are plants of the same family. That's probably why people who try this method killed their plants within days, as the comments suggest. Just using soap spray is enough. Soap reduces the surface tension of water and removes protective layers on the skin of insects, aphids, and worms. The mixture will drown them.
I haven't tried this yet, but I think putting "hot pepper oil" (and that stuff is usually pretty HOT) in with the detergent and water might be a more effective way to micronize the spray. The detergent should disperse the oil enough to keep it from separating out. Just a thought.
If they eat orange habaneros. Cayenne surely isn't going to help! They love eating the peppers to. Only way i can keep them off the plants, is? A BLACK LIGHT FLASH LIGHT. BLACK LIGHT THE PLANTS LATE AT NIGHT, AND EARLY MORNING! About every other night
THESE ONLY EAT TOMATOES AND TOBACCO OTHER WORMS WON'T EAT......WE NEED AN LOWER CLASS OF WORM TO TAKE CARE OF HEADS OF CORPORATIONS, POLITICIANS, FEDERAL JUDGES (THIS MEANS YOU KIMBA WOOD) AND TO POLLUTE AND CORRUPT AND DILUTE THE WORM POPULATION YOU'KNOW....
I will try this. I tomato plant is literally being eaten alive. Just about all of my tomatoes on my plant have bite marks in them. Plus I found two worms.
I did this method and it has almost killed my tomato plants. I believe it is the soapy water rather than the pepper because I sprayed the plants with the soapy water solution thoroughly and used the pepper sparingly. I used Dawn detergent with liberal amounts of water in a sprayer, so I don't know what could have caused this but beware as now I'm hoping my plants survive.
i have used this method for spider mite,, but i have found that you also need to wash it off the next day,,, give the soap a couple of hours on the plant,, so the worms fall off then blast the rest with the garden hose ..
I wonder if that would work on stinkbugs. They have ruined all of my tomatoes. Have never seen so many. I could spray the tomatoes and sprinkle the cayenne and see if they stay away. Thank you!!!

Thank you! I hated the idea of using pesticides, both for the animals and the produce. Just wanted to deter, not kill. Interesting they've ravaged my heirloom ugly tomato leaves but not touched the other tomato plants or fruits.
Soapy solution does absolutely nothing to tomato worms. Been spraying mine for a couple days in a row directly on the worms and it does not kill them or have any effect. I used Palmolive dishwashing detergent if that matters
Omg, listen guys I just went out to my garden and sprayed my tomatoe plants with these ingredients and ever single flower fell off my plants the following day. This ruined my tomatoes. DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS GUYS. TRUST ME 😢😢
I had one that covered with them . I thought it was eggs from the worms . All of our tomato plants are all most completely dead now , so I went out there and took all those nasty looking wasp eggs off of that poor worm so it wouldn't die . eww... I just couldn't think of it being eaten alive . I found another one that was already dead . Sorry , I'm a softy . Next year we'll spray the soap and water and the cayenne pepper .That caterpillar worm looked as if it was relieved . lol !!
Your video is tile "How To Kill Tomato Worms Naturally" and you start your video with "I am not sure that will kill them" How can I trust anything else you say?
I did this, and within two days my tomato plants are dying, thanks alot my beautiful plants are gone three foot plants are gone, beefy and big boys gone, need I say more
This happened to me also. I suspect that it was the cayenne pepper that practically killed my tomato plants after the treatment. Still have tomatoes on there and main stalk of the plants look Ok, but many of the leaves are burned looking and my future crop of little flowers look dead. Bad remedy for sure. I may try the garlic in the water next time around. Did yours totally die?
Let tomatoes and tomato plants live. If you don't want to kill pests that bother your natural plants, don't plant tomatoes. Or if you want nature to live, injest some parasites and let them live inside you.
not only do you keep your plants safe, but you also get spicy tomatos + + for both.
I'm a novice at vege gardening, was in tears looking at my tomatoes being savaged.. Will try this n pray that this works.. :(((
same, small caterpillars were folding the leaves of my big beef tomato and were killing the leaves :(

Yes. Soap seems harmless enough, but it is toxic to bugs. Maybe you don't need the peppers in it.
Just tried this on our tomato plants. Found a few gnarly worms all over. Worms removed then sprayed thoroughly. Held off on the cayenne pepper - got spooked by a few comments here that people experienced burns on plant when pepper applied.
Just wondering. dish soap can make us really sick when ingesting it. Wouldn't it absorb into the tomato?
use eco friendly
use eco friendly
no, plants dont absorb water
thank you so much do you do this early morning or when sun goes down ,ive tryed baking soda it just washes away but it does kill alot of pests

Thanks for the interesting and informative comment.
Thanks worked like a charm should I wash the soap off after??
I think so, if you’re sure all the worms are dead. Some of them are really small and sneaky.
If I grind up some tobaco leaves, and use it instead of cayenne, will i get Tomaccos?
Why not put the pepper in the water also and shake well. Think it might work?
Could clog up the sprayer
That would probably work.
I thought about that!
water nullifies the strength of pepper
Hulk Smash! Do you think that would work?????????????
will this work for herbs..i had orange mint, and lemon balm and those things ate them. i had to throw them away.

Tried and didnt work for my garden. Almost all my leaves turned yellow.
same
WILL IT WORK WITH MEXICAN HORN WORMS TOO? I HEARD THEY LOVE THE HEAT

Dawn is not a soap, it’s a detergent. Same thing happened to me with Dawn, and I found out too late. 😧
Same here... used Dawn dishsoap and killed my plant.
Just noticed three of these buggers on my plants today and freaking out! Thanks for this. About to try it
can you just mix the pepper into the water/soap solution?
Yes.
nice tip . did you tried turmeric ? we use that to get rid of ants, i dont think it kills them but it kinda drives them off
I wonder if that would work on stinkbugs. They have ruined all of my tomatoes. Have never seen so many. I could spray the tomatoes and sprinkle the cayenne and see if they stay away. Thank you!!!
You're welcome. I hope it works.
does it change the taste of the tomato?
ps i like the idea those worms are gross
Not if you wash them before you eat them.
thanks
Perfect! Love it. FB and Pinterested it.
"and this way you dont have to use poison".... "anyways use some dish soap..."
I just pick them off and drop into a container with soapy water. Works great
will any pepper work?
+claudia rangel Not sure. I used cayenne pepper.

Brandywine is my most prolific tomatoe, and they started eating the leaves of my biggest. I was pissed
gonna have to try this
this does not work on those big green worms

Cool do you know a remedy for greenfly
I don't think the insects can taste pepper spice as they are not mammals lol.
I tried this.. My tomatoes dies... 🙁
The soapy water solution by itself also works good for box elder bugs!
Works well for aphids as well!!! Dawn is a great dish soap. :o)

stop trying to kill tomato worms they eat tomatoes for a reason: they want to save you from the deadly tomatoes

what happens if you knock the White larva off the worms ?
I understand that the white larva are wasp larva and will kill the hornworms
I'll be trying this tommorw. .
Oh
what do u have to say to all the people who done this and it killed ther plants?i think its hilarious, lmao
It didn't kill my plant. I wonder if they used a different mix, or if there was some other factor involved.

It is the soap, soap dries them out,the cayenne pepper does not harm the plants
Next time try insecticidal soap instead and follow the directions.
I use a small amount of dawn dish soap in water. I spray it on the leaves and my garden continues to grow.
Yes, it’s because dish “soap” is a detergent, not actually soap! Too much will burn the leaves. May be true of the pepper as well.
Doesn't work. Not at all. Don't waste your time.
why not just step on it?
exactly.... natural way to kill tomato worm... step...squish...done ;-))
I have done that and they still come around, I feed them to my turtle!!

lol I feed them to my chicken and they love it.
THANKS........killed 5 today. I hope they will be gone after this.
Nancy L Brown You're welcome.
why not just step on them? it's the easiest and most natural way , plus it's fun to see them squish
True, but you can't be out there 24 hours a day hunting them, so the pepper will keep them away when you are not looking.
