That child crying out for Superman in the midst of a battlefield was everything to me man and told me all I needed to know about how Gunn was handling this character. He gets it. THIS is how Superman is meant to be portrayed: as a symbol of hope. I really like Henry Cavill and I enjoyed Man of Steel, but we never got to see them lean into the “boy scout” side of Superman, which is who he truly is at heart. He’s a good person that was raised on kindness and old fashioned values. He protects those who can’t protect themselves. It’s refreshing to see a Superman that actually smiles again instead of frowning all the time. The world needs a feel good Superman movie now more than ever. I’m looking forward to this.
THIS! So many people in this comment section have no idea of the character that Superman as a whole represents, you do though, thank you for saying this man, it’s facts and more must know
@giga_chad9 For sure man. I’ve been a comic book fan for my entire life. I’ve always found them to be an escape from reality, even if just for a little while. So staying true to the source material is something that I believe is of the utmost importance when making an adaptation of anything, and Superman is no exception. What I’ve seen so far looks promising, but let’s hope that James Gunn remains dedicated to representing these characters and what they stand for correctly.
I really think they were heading the way of the boyscout Superman at the end of the Justice League movie. The scene with him and the Flash was refreshing. Also, the cut scene at the end of Black Adam, where Supes shows up in his bright red and yellow costume and he has that little hint of a smile, I believe was a lean in towards Supes being more in line with his comic book counterpart. I know it wasn't as boyscoutish as Christopher Reeve, but I really think they were trying to lean towards that. Just this ol' boys opinion.
@@mitchellfoster4025 Yeah I think that’s the direction they were headed. But it’s just a shame that it took them that long to get there with Cavill’s version. But I really like what I see so far with Corenswet, visually he looks like a mix of Tom Welling and Henry Cavill.
"I totally get your point, but let’s not throw shade at Henry Cavill. The guy’s more than just a pretty face-he’s a seriously talented actor. From his early days as the son of the Count of Monte Cristo, to playing Superman, and even crushing it as Geralt in The Witcher, he’s proven he’s got range. Oh, and don’t forget his awesome role in Mission: Impossible - Fallout! On top of all that, he’s a huge nerd and a gamer-just like a lot of us. He’s real, down-to-earth, and brings a ton of passion to everything he does. He definitely deserves more respect than just being the subject of criticism... And honestly, this new Superman looks amazing! It’s totally bringing back those nostalgic childhood vibes, right? Henry Cavill, though, has also been a great example of masculinity. He’s kind to his fans, and the way he carries himself makes us men feel good about being men."
The movie looks promising, but the actor playing Superman is not as good-looking as Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, or Henry Cavill. He’s by no means unattractive, just not as above average as the former Supermen, including Dean Cain and Tyler Hoechlin. Maybe that’s what they’re going for.

@AdeodatusX that isn't exactly a surprise, given that Snyder, like most Ayn Rand fanatics, is a true believer in Great Man Theory - which was perhaps most succinctly articulated by the Green Goblin in Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man film: "There are eight million people in [New York City], and those teeming masses exist for the sole purpose of lifting the few exceptional people onto their shoulders." Such an elitist mentality/ideology is if anything _more_ conservative than a more conscientious alternative; given that social hierarchy, and the valuing of certain lives over others, is what conservatism fundamentally seeks to conserve. 😒 If you didn't care about "collateral damage" during Bush's invasion of Iraq, why would you care more about it here, in a work of fiction?

How was Zack Snyder's Superman the most conservative??! Also, he wasn't hated for being more conservative. Personally, it was just not a hopeful and good Superman movie. Snyder's Superman movie had a problem making Superman seem like an outsider on Earth. Yes, Superman is an alien, but him growing up on the Kent farm and being raised by humans made Earth his home, no matter how different he was. Snyder's Superman was not good because he seemed like a total outsider, and identified as more of a Kryptonian than an earthling. Now the consensus of the hate for the movie is no way because it's "more conservative" its because it was a poorly written Superman film and Superman himself was seen as dark and gritty when Superman is supposed to be the light in the dark. It would have worked way better for Supergirl, who is supposed to feel like an outsider since she grew up on Krypton. I've always loved the line from the show Lois and Clark, where Superman says something like "Superman is what I can do, Clark is who I am" and to me, that is Superman's character.
Facts. Snyder Superman was hated because they tried to give Superman Batman energy and it just felt stiff and awkward and less bad ass. Superman is supposed to be a normal American guy, not a guy with a god complex
i've been watching reactions to the trailer all day, and have seen grown ass men eyes start to water at the music cue. And here is knowles sitting there like a mannequin. lol.. "we won" indeed.
The Snyder Superman movie was criticized because Superman committed genocide by killing the only remaining Kryptonians and Kryptonian embryos for no clear reason. And for other insane writing decisions.
As an Englishman, I’m so happy to finally see Superman once again represent truth, justice and the AMERICAN way! 🇺🇸 this looks old fashioned in the best sort of way!
This seems to be a homage to Christopher Reeve Superman. It also appears to have the justice league characters peppered throughout the trailer. James Gunn didn’t just have a me too type scandal, but his was about wanting to sleep with children. He was posting on Twitter comments on how he finds little girls, but had like 20 posts, and he claimed they were jokes, edgy jokes. So everyone was like oh edgy jokes about little girls, sexual innuendoes what he’d like to do. Marvel fired him, that night he goes to a party like a Diddy party, but him and all his friends dressed up as little kids and had sex. The same week he deleted all his tweets, got fired, he decided to go to a party where he dressed like a five year old boy and his friends also dressed like five year olds. Take that into consideration when you decide to see this movie.
LOL NOBODY criticized the Nolan/Snyder movies for being conservative. Was Amy Adams not pretty? Superman wasn't bad in Man of Steel. This is pure, 100% conservative brain rot.
Superman and Lois also had a very good portrayal of both Clark and Superman in Tyler Hoechlin. I hope the new guy is as skilled as he was in portraying a capable father and hero.
I live in Cleveland and wandered around all summer looking for Superman Easter eggs. Now I'm sitting here watching the trailer looking for Cleveland Easter eggs. The scene where the skyscraper is falling over the bridge I paused it. You can see downtown on the left, The Flats and all the bridges were left completely untouched and then in the distance you can see the east side completely covered up by CGI with a shining beautiful city. It struck me in a way I didn't expect. Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster grew up on the east side. It's where they came up with the idea of Superman, back when Cleveland was one of the fastest growing cities in the world and it managed to inspire that image of Metropolis. Then bad policy, corruption, riots and crime gutted the city like a fish and we never recovered. My dad also grew up on the Eastside when it went bad. He had a rough go of it but managed to break free of the generational weight of poverty and got us out. Now I'm back here because I fumbled the catch. I can actually see where my apartment is through the CGI. It's very surreal and emotional in a way I didn't expect. I'm glad they brought it home. It feels like a homage... Or maybe a funeral. I just know it makes me want things to be better.
@utubecustomer0099805 thanks. He definitely seemed to lean into the look of Cleveland and embrace it. A lot of movies are shot here and they always try to mask it and make it look like New York or elsewhere. But he's got Hawkgirl circling Tower City, The Flats, Public Square all front and center. It's refreshing for a local. The scene where he's floating with Lois was shot in The Arcade. It was built in the late 1800s and was one of the first indoor shopping centers in the country and made us a world travel destination. It would have been in its heyday when Shuster and Siegel were growing up. If you pause the scene with the falling tower, the skyscrapers way in the distance on the left are probably placed about where the Cleveland Clinic is. Beyond that is East Cleveland where my dad was raised. Single mom with three boys living with grandparents in a two bedroom house in a blue collar neighborhood. It's so bad there now, we went back once so he could get a little closure. Most of his block was burned down. Looks like a war zone. He cried. If you want to see what it looks like now Roca News just did a little expose on it, but The Serial Podcast really digs into the rampant corruption. A friend of mine lives over there and told me he saw police finally running patrols and stopping cars for the first time in years. A couple weeks later there was a news story that a bunch of cops were running a robbery gang, pulling people over, taking all their stuff and then leaving. It's just so sad.
It wasn’t that those that the Snyder versions were conservative, it’s because they were written like shit and didn’t even act like their characters. Zack Snyder doesn’t like Superman or Batman, he likes an idea of them that he has but that idea isn’t their characters. I don’t hate Zack Snyder or anything I actually really like a few of his movies it’s just he isn’t great with those characters.
James Gunn's Guardians of the galaxy has been one of the most based movie franchise that came out of Disney. So I'm looking forward for this one. My only gripe is, there seems to be a lot going on for it's first go.

0:31 hilarious how the superman being depicted as christ which is idolatry (a sin btw) is the most conservative depiction of the character. Also love how zack snyders versions of the superhero are the few time heroes like batman are depicted as killers and alone.
You can use characters as a symbol or reference of Christ (sort of like Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and CS Lewis’ Narnia). Zack Snyder’s superman did use Christian symbolism, one scene I did appreciate back when it came out was when he went to the priest/pastor. It shows a recognition of a higher power, something which some of the comics do, at least from what I heard from one or two people
Superman wasn't depicted as Christ. He was depicted as a Christ-like figure, a hero for humanity that can fight battles for them that no human can, Someone to give hope to humanity. It's no different than like Aslan from Narnia or something. That's not idolatry
@Aussboi superman was literally worshipped like a God in BvS and Zack snyders justice league and it is different than how tolkien or narnia depicts them. In tolkien the characters have christ like values or representations but they aren't depicted as God's or a messiah. And in Narnia Aslan isn't a Christ like figure, he is Christ. Also what about Snyders Superman and Batman being more willing to kill than other interpretations. If you like snyders movies that's fine, I enjoyed them but conservatives saying they are Christians than saying that the least Christian interpretations of the characters are the most conservative is kinda telling.
@ I don’t base my Christianity on imagery… I don’t know where you get that from nor what that means exactly 🤔 all I said was it’s okay to create fiction based on Christianity, with the examples I gave, which I thought was well put

To call the Zack Snyder works "conservative" is to call Ayn Rand a conservative. Yes, in some sense it may technically be true but those movies are just as deranged, poorly thought out and destructive as Ayn Rand's ideology. XD
People complain about anything. Superman could have came on the scene wearing a MAGA hat and the American right folks who live on the internet would still find something to whine about. And the Snyder cultists will hate whatever Gunn does with Superman because hes not Henry Cavill. You will never please everyone. At some point you just gotta stop trying. The reason so many movies in the 80s and 90s were so awesome was because we, for the most part, didnt have the internet to give voices to literally every obsessed, entitled, psuedo-intellectual with an opinion. Directors just made movies without worrying about some blue haired they/them on X or some neckbeard with a zesty red hat losing their minds on social media. The movie looks great. The Superman actor looks modern as Clark Kent and classic as Superman. Lois is beautiful. Lex is menacing. Guy Gardener has a goofy haircut. Mr. Terrific looks terrific. Krypto is adorable. Hold up, the Snyder characters weren't bad because they were the most conservative versions of those characters. Idk what kind of crack the producer is on, but I want some because that is a wildly delusional take. The reason people disliked the Snyder Batman and Superman was because they were antithetical to the comic versions of those characters. Read a goddamn comic and watch the DCAU (by far the versions of those characters, period) before making the assumption it was just because they weren't inherently woke. Also just because they made Superman a Jesus stand in (WHICH HE IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE) doesn't make that portrayal conservative. It just makes it unnecessarily religiously themed (which again is not the point of Superman). And Batman was far from a conservative take. He was just a super edgy brutal-for-no-reason Batman that killed people (despite his no kill rule being a part of his character for nearly 90 years).
snyder himself openly expressed how much he DISLIKED superman batman and what they stood for. unsurprising how badly he did with the fans of the character. his fans are now complaining that this movie has too much colour because they'd rather see metropolis at dusk and night with zero saturation and not a single lighthearted moment from a guy who should be humanity's best friend
Snyder batman with Ben Aflex was the thug. Wanted revenge vs superman but Nolan batman in the trilogy was a hurt boy who became batman to protect Gotham from the criminals but he attracted the attention of one man who wanted to torment batman. Heath ledger joker. Why so serious
It really seems like a riff on a comic storyline called Kingdom Come. Where the new generation of heroes is calloused and edgy but face something they can't overcome, and the 'old' heroes have to return and show them what being a real hero is. If Gunn pulls that off, this movie is going to be genuinely amazing.
I heard that’s kind of what the story is, but Superman is the new guy on the scene instead of the old guard coming back. Maybe some silver age Superman stuff thrown in too.

Agreed

Completely agree!

In MoS he was literally Superman for like a few weeks. It was the first fight he ever fought. Of course, things would be destroyed and people will die when two powerful beings were fighting each other.
@AdeodatusX that isn't exactly a surprise, given that Snyder, like most Ayn Rand fanatics, is a true believer in Great Man Theory - which was perhaps most succinctly articulated by the Green Goblin in Sam Raimi's first Spider-Man film:
"There are eight million people in [New York City], and those teeming masses exist for the sole purpose of lifting the few exceptional people onto their shoulders."

@@MrFluffy6184 LMFAO Superman is an immigrant Dreamer 🤣😂

You're reply is a story in itself. Well done. I wonder if J. Gunn was conscience of all these details during production. Hope so.

He would not become the devil incarnate until he had the gall to win an election without a D next to his name. The only variants of Lex who have direct descent from Trump are post-2016, which is about the time that every single fictional villain started taking on Trump aspects.
The writers did that. As they did with the cringe worthy Absolute Superman comic.
YOU nailed it. This trailler only brought something inside me that I can't explain. Even the idea of a silly dog made me smile. WE WON. Well....almost. I am Canadian and Trudeau is still here.
Krypto was my favorite part as a child. Silly dog my ass.
We shall win soon my fellow Canadian. I can feel it!!
We are winning. But I'm sure these scenes were filmed months ago. Besides, it's James Gunn. Based on his previous superhero films, and despite him being on the left, the odds were always in favor of this being at least a decent Superman film.
But not for long!!!
“ Was that Godzilla took me out “ 😂
Dude doesn’t even know what he’s talking about💀💀🤣🤣
This is, by far, my most anticipated movie. I think it looks fantastic! A return to hope and optimism in superhero movies! That little kid holding up the flag and calling for Superman is exactly what that character represents. Truth, justice, and the American way!
No it’s not.
“I have no means to watch it but it’s great”
If good movies don’t make money then good movies won’t happen anymore.
The classic Superman music played on electric guitar sounds awesome. I'm stoked.
Oh yes just like the reeves cultists, Snyder cultists and you gunnped* cultists
Superman is the greatest and most iconic superhero of all time. Batman does not even come close
I think it’s very very funny that conservatives have gaslit themselves into thinking Superman being cast as a buff white dude and Lois Lane being a pretty woman are somehow huge culture war wins for them. This is quite literally how every interpretation of Superman for the last 50 years has been. Every. Single. One.
Why are yall shadow boxing yourselves?
What is funny is how bad AI is in pretending to be human with brainless responses given how many movies that had very old and and repeated backstories that got morphed to fit the current warped understanding of what is good and desired by "we the people". Your statement lacks any forethought or intelligence, but that my friend is par for the course that is slowly fading away.
The fact that they don’t know that Lex Luthor is literally based off of Trump 😏
@ He isn’t based on Trump lmfao. But they are both similar!
Stupidest reaction of this awesome trailer on the entire internet
James Gunn should be fired for what he did to Cavil and Gunn is the antithesis of everything superman stands for.
Shut up we’re sick of emo Superman
You’re an idiot and you’re too immature to understand how business works. Gunn came in after Henry was let go, but you’ll never be able to piece that together
What Kate Bosworth/Lois Lane says in SuperMan Returns is true in real life:
"Superman's mere exsistence inspires us to be better people".
TRUTH, JUSTICE AND THE AMERICAN WAY ❤🇺🇸❤️
Listening to hacks talk about movies is exhausting.
for real. although knowles gay student film is still hilarious. homeboy is definitely in the closet
Gunn is the old classic superman who like spiderman feels closer to people who always puts on a smile to show people it's alright I am here and zack synyder superman is a superman who could become injustice superman he is perfect for realistic political take on superheroes.
Though after seeing lots of serious and dark dc now I think it's time to see some fantastical take like the classics
Michael went to see Barbie but will probably pass on Superman 😂
James Gunn had a tweet thing. Not a METOO thing. Everything he creates is incredible
Wrong
@@KackalaHairlesshis stuff is niche
Yeah he said some creepy things
Nope, everything he creates is a glorified fart joke, dude is a teenage edgelord parading as an artist.
This may be the exception but it’s screaming if the force awakens, all spectacle no substance.
Everything?
This world needs SUPERMAN
Looking forward for the next one!
Jesus Christ died for your sins on the cross. Repent and believe in him or you will be separated from God The Father for all eternity and face hell forever, for all eternity, never ending.
They lost me at no Henry Cavill
Don’t know how good the movie will be, but that was an amazing trailer.
No
KC only works if everyone is old. Hope they set it up for a future JL movie
No one could ever do kingdom come in a satisfactory way for me. Mostly because they would never let the spectre appear on screen
@@25meip he said he took MASSIVE inspo from All Star Superman
The irony of this dude commentating about Superman when Superman’s values would not align with anything that he says is funny. Dude is really just saying whatever and people eat it up apparently. This guys’ fans must be too dumb to see that he is actually taking advantage of them.
The only problem with the new Superman is the costume doesn’t fit well and therefore he’s not believable as Superman. Cavill on the other hand…
100% agreed
it looks spectacular James Gunn has captured the essence of both Clark and Supes he is bringing this universe to life showing its a living breathing universe with passion and meaning
That looks fucking amazing
Trailer was awesome
Agreed
1:07 Yamcha from Dragonball Z death pose meme
With everyone reacting to the trailer now, as a Catholic comics geek, I am now awaiting for Fr. Mike Schmitz's reaction/analysis being the DC/Superman fan that he is 😂
Superman’s true superpower was to inspire others to serve and be great.
Okay. That looks amazing!
this guy is trying too hard with his cigars.
If you told me this was A WB TV show id belive you
I’ve been madly in love with Superman since I was about 4 years old. Not simply for his power, but for who he is morally and emotionally. This movie looks like it’s going back to the roots of who he is. Bright, hopeful, and kind. I’m ready to go jump up and down in my seat and- maybe- bawl my eyes out.
I started dying laughing and clicked off when he said “Is that Godzilla?”
Then clicked back on to comment this?
