What she failed to tell was that she called our Dad after the concert. They talked a while and they stayed in contact for many years. Usually would get postcards from her from different places. Her manager didn't want her to talk to him.

How is this relevant? And who is "our" dad?

@@irenashiloh8808 Harold Carlisle was our Dad. It is relevant that she didn't tell the truth..of course she said that she didn't remember ever even seeing us in person until Daddy showed her pictures of us with her. Doesn't matter if you believe we have the same Dad or not. She knows who we are and she knows the truth.

The truth is that Daddy by accident saw her name in a magazine. We lived in Baton Rouge and my parents managed Billups stations there. Daddy just happened to be looking in a magazine and saw her name. He kept looking at it in disbelief because he wasn't sure if it was really her. The picture that they showed with her in the little dress is one of several that he carried in his wallet all those years. She didn't turn her back on him... When we got home that night the phone was ringing. I answered it and it was Belinda asking to talk to Daddy. I was 5 at the time but I know that she called and we got postcards from her over the years. We saw and spent time with her in Starkville, Ms. She asked for us to follow their bus to Monroe, La.. She gave us backstage passes.. she had them shine a spot light on us in the stands and pointed out that He was her Daddy.. so no matter what she says or remembers things didn't happen I like she said. She was his daughter didn't matter whether or not she was famous or not. He looked and prayed to find them all those years. Wasn't just her he lost two other children as well.. He loved all of us. I am his youngest. Belinda is his third child.

Wow, that's quite the story! May I ask who took off first, did her mother pack up and leave him in the dust...or maybe it's the old "I'm pregnant" then he vanishes?

oh, hes back in her life now that shes got scratch. there was an NFL star about a decade ago (cant remember, maybe a NYG running back) whose father came around after being absent most of the football player's life. the jock said 'bub-bye" to that leach - he gave his mom full credit for his rearing.
i love this 'intimate portrait'. i wasnt crazy about 'vacation', but it was OK. i never did hear the third album. "beauty and the beat" was sensational! "God bless the go-gos" was pretty good.

    • @jennifercbell517

She told what she wanted people to hear to make you feel sorry for her. He looked for them when their mom left with them but those days there wasn't ways to find people like there is today. He only wanted to die without being hated for something he didn't do. He didn't abandon them.

John Lennon had a similar experience with his own father. Apparently he also asked for money and Lennon told him where to go.
Michael Steele of The Bangles spoke of incidents like that in an interview. She called them "Woodwork People". It sucks, because I'm sure that while there are plenty of people who genuinely want to reconnect with their old friend/relative, there's probably a lot more that just want a piece of the action. "Give me money/listen to this song I wrote/read this script I wrote/get me out of this speeding ticket/put me in touch with your famous friends, etc."
