@miriamdiggler1288 Yeah, I don't get why people still buy them. I recommended the TX16S to a club member recently and they still ended up going with a radio from the big S. They said it was because it was what they were familiar with... IDK. I don't get it either.

The game controller allows you to hook up your transmitter to a computer and use it for flight training simulators. But make sure to disable it before flying your rc stuff again, or it won't transmit RF, and you'll be wondering why lol.
Hi Brian been thru everything you have went thru with NX6 and my NX8 but luckly my starlink been working great I wish I seen your first recommendation and went for the NX8 instead of the NX6 but I do like the specktrum products good video and review
If you have the NX6, maybe you could try the "Trade in" program when you outgrow it??? NX6 is a GREAT option, when and before the 8 and 10 were available (and don't forget, it was the first one out - the 10 wasn't available for-ever due to covid). Our Starlink has been very spotty lately. It's super annoying. We've had speed issues too, but it's still better than the next best option. Their support is terrible - worst part of Starlink.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I figure it be good for a spare buddy box if someone wants to see what the hobbys is about and I can take them up with my air tractor or one of my umx's plane
Thanks so much for your channel content, you and your camera crew are just great. So easy to follow and understand. Thank you both ☘️ If you are ever in Ireland let me know.
Brian. You may feel the difference with your gimbals when you fly your Helis. Try it with your 230s inverted and when you punch out with negative collective yoy might feel the difference.
I just updated my nx8, it would not work with WIFI. I downloaded the file on my mac. Then change the settings on the radio to mass storage device and plugged the transmitter into mac with usb cable. Then the internal SD card pops up on the mac desktop. Then copy the file to the SD drive. Then you can point to the file and upgrade. You don't need an external SD card. I also have an ix20. It upgrades fine with wifi.
It was the UI and menu system on the older DX and NX transmitters is what killed it for me. I found them very unintuitive and clumsy to use. I have been using a IX20SE for a while now and would absolutely never go back to the old types. Although I do still have a DX8E for when I am beach flying with the gliders and don't want to get sand or salt water in my expensive IX-TX.. but I do not use the DX for anything else.
I couldn't agree more! The downfall on anything but an iX is the scroll wheel. I got a year out of my nx's til it had to go in for a replacement wheel. Touch screen is much better!
Me too, I love my DX9 & the money I saved from not buying the latest NX series. I just spoke to Horizon yesterday (his name was Matt) and he even told me the DX9 is fine and there's no need to go to the NX10 or any of the NX series since the DX9 has forward programming.
Brand new to the hobby! Don’t have anything. Retired guy looking to get into this, but fund’s little limited. Probably like everyone getting into this, I don’t expect to have more than a couple planes. That said, is a less expensive DX6e a bad investment? I know the no is the replacement, but little pricey. Your videos are a great resource!
I can say this with certainty - even on a limited budget, if you get 2 planes, you'll soon enough have 20 ;) You probably think I'm being a sales man here, but I promise I'm not. Here's my NO BS pitch - buy as much as you THINK you'll need (or can afford) so as to avoid buying several steps along the way. This will save you THOUSANDS in the first years of your hobby experience. $1000's - NOT AN EXAGGERATION. If you want a GOOD value that will see you through a lot of RC planes, you MIGHT consider the NX7e - it's not NEAR as good at the NX10, for obvious reasons (namely the channels...10 is gonna get you YEARS and YEARS of planes, while 7 will leave you wanting in a year or so, if you advance through the "ranks" anything like an average pilot) NX7e comes with "bonus points" right now, which I think makes for about a $50 credit against something else...so check it out.. bprc.me/NX7e - THIS ONE is where you should be starting... bprc.me/NX8 - DON'T GET THIS ONE, it's too "in the middle" and it's still pricey...unless they put it on sale. bprc.me/NX10 - Get this one if you want to get the "next step" over the NX7e bprc.me/NX20 - If you KNOW you're gonna be ALL in, just get this OR the iX20...but I don't even have one ;) bprc.me/iX20 - If you won the lotto - get this one ;) bprc.me/Tx - the whole list here - DO NOT GET A DX - they're going to lose support soon, and you will NOT have every feature we use
Brian, I have question about my NX8 & did the same thing as you and bought the NX10, but like you stated that you have bind each plane to the NX10. Do you have to redo the trust reverse again on the planes you had it on the NX8? Also how about the Safe & AX3S do you bind the same way as you did in the NX8 by holding down the receiver button down then bind? Then Corner the Sticks down and inwards and switching the B switch ten times in my case to activate SAFE? Thank you very much in advance! 😄
Thrust reverse is set inside the ESC, not the Tx. You MAY also need to re-activate SAFE on some planes, I've noticed. Don't do the sticks - do FORWARD PROGRAMMING... if you're not sure how, just check out any of the many bigger planes (not UMX - they're already assigned to a channel) BNF "Unbox Build and Radio Setup" videos we've done
Good day Mr. Phillips. Could you explain how I put my models on my NX8 in order? i.e. most to least used or alphabetized. As a test, I renamed a couple with #1 and #2 in front of them and that didn't seem to do the trick, any direction, greatly appreciated. "Please" keep up your great channel and work and knowledge. JC, WhiteBearLake, MN
I setup the same audio events on the same 4 switches for all my planes. Is there a way to template just the audio callouts for a switch and them import to a new plane so I don't have to create the audio events manually each time?
I think you can make a shorter list, and I believe you can make a TEMPLATE for the model, then just START from there...but we haven't actually shared it yet. We might need to do that some time. Sorry I can't say with certainty, but believe you can, Leon
..I love my NX8. But NX10, has sliders - eh, first thing with NX8 I did was upgrade the battery to the Spektrum 3.7V 6000mAh 1S for $35. Other than that, if I upgrade my controller, it will be to the iX14.
NX10 vs NX10SE - I have a hard time finding enough extra value, but maybe you will for the SE???? I don't mean to try to make these value judgments for others, but to be honest, I just need the channels.
Hi @brian have a weird model overwrite issue on my nx10. I have a few models created. When I turn on my radio, my first model gets copied over the last model I flew. Only started happening in the last week. Any help appreciated..
You might have covered this but , It’s been awhile since I’ve updated my nx10 and there’s 3 updates available, should I just update to the newest or start with the oldest version & work up? I know with most everything else you just jump right to the newest but you know, spektrum doesn’t always do things the way you might expect. Thanks always your entertaining videos!
You're welcome, and YES, there is an UPDATE that JUST came out the other day, but I haven't updated mine yet. It always seems like it's better to wait a few weeks, and let all the "early adopters" find the bugs - LOL / Cry ;)
hi Brian, you have great informal videos can i on the NX8 and the Nx10 can i see how much battery power i have left in my aircraft while im flying what unit receiver, do i use if possible, besides a timer in the radio. I need more direct information from the helicopter motor, power supply, while I'm flying. I don't want to damage my lipo batteries your advice on these radios is very helpful. I think for me the 8 channel should be ok for me 6 channel for the helicopter servos and 7th channel for my lights and the 8th channel for my pilot that has a turning head . any help will be appreciated Jim
Just got a nx10 today oddly enough and saw you post this. Upgrading from a dx8e and new to whole new interface of the nx line. Anymore useful tips to help get used to it?
Have they improved the TX programming to make it even more user-hostile? Apparently Spektrum feels we don't need no stinking intuitive menus (or useful manuals)!
Tyler Perry is a HUGE RC guy. Talk about a celebrity to have on your side to sway legislation? Google for pics/vids of his RC planes, runway and hanger. For people who say money isn't everything, that's a lie. His Runway hanger and collection of RC planes proves, significant discretionary income takes flying RC to a whole new level. 😆
I agree, and know he'd be a great guy to help advocate for our beloved hobby. I KNOW there are others too who really enjoy aviation, and might be able to help along the way. RC is a gateway drug into Full Scale, and we need pilots!
This feels like a much harder way to update firmware. On my Nx7E (with no WIFI) all I did was connect to the PC via USB, download the firmware and drag the file into the transmitter’s folder. Turn the Tx off and on and firmware auto updates. Took about 5 min of work without even knowing what I was doing.
Would a NX10se be a good advancement from a DZ6e? I really want more channels, but I certainly don’t I need 14 or 20 lol. Is this a good plan for future planes? I currently only fly a turbo timber eco and CZ Cub SS. Awesome videos :) I thoroughly enjoy this channel
I sent letters off to Grassley, Ernst, and Nunn about raising the weight limit to 1KG. I actually got a call back from Nunn's office and had about a 10 minute conversation with an aid to help them understand my feelings and to clarify some comments. I can't say with certainty that it will make a difference, but I'm hopeful. I know that doing nothing will NOT make a difference so SEND THOSE EMAILS!
@@BrianPhillipsRC I just got a reply from Grassley's office as well. It feels like it's pretty much a form letter with a couple paragraphs to apply to the main concern I had (the weight limit). At least he acknowledges that he got it. He did NOT however give any indication how he felt about it... Mainly a long ramble about the history of model aircraft legislation.
How about donating a transmitter to a brother; if you do, please sign it; it would mean so much. My DX6E won't allow me to use thrust reverse on my T-28.
Getting the NX8 delivered tomorrow. I'm using real flight with the dedicated controller for the sim. Is it easy to use this in place of the real flight controller or even worth doing since I have it? I heard someone mention on another vid you have to reset the controls or trims before flying the plane or maybe I misunderstood it. Also to make sure you are out of sim mode before flying, which seems obvious, but wasn't sure how easy the transition is.
You can do it with VERY limited effort, BUT, I'm too lazy to do it, so I'm not assuming you're going to do it either ;) That being said, we have so many good Tx'es that it's kinda like...I just use the WIRED one more often than not. It's a very good analog for what we use with ANY of the NX lineup Tx'es, and that's what I'm after. Good luck - remember to UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE when you get it (if it's not already). It's a PIA, but you want to be at latest and greatest for all the features.
You DON’T want an ix transmitter . I have an ix12. Takes a long time to boot up. It’s slow, has limited battery time. Buggy, audio is cheesy/laggy/scratchy/mutes (goes away). Menu navigation is gut wrenching/slow/cumbersome. I flew just a few flights with it, and put back in the box (shelf queen).
Oh no, I hope I don't have that experience, but thanks for the heads up. Loving my NX'es so far! (FYI, I deleted your duplicate comment. Not sure why that happens from time to time, but don't want you to think we were upset, or some such thing.)
I will be o😊nest at fist I did 😊not care for your show as I progress I found and came to like you very much your the best love your fantastic help your a great teacher love how funny you are keep up the good work your the best man!
Thanks Brian for this update video!! I invested in the NX10 and ended up getting the SE version. Your videos are so informative and love to watch them. Thank you so much. I do have a question. Have you ever replaced any of the switch rings? Is it difficult? Just curious as the SE version came with the orange hand grips and switch cover rings. Thanks again Brian and camera crew!!
I changed them on mine. Not bad at all. Just use some needle nose pliers to help pull the switch out when needed. I think only one had potential to fall in so just be careful of that. Do it inverted if possible. 👍
I started flying with thumbs, but after being trained with a trainer at the field, I grip with a thumb and index ever since. I don't know if it really matters if you get good doing either method
Whatever makes YOU comfortable works. Don't worry about what others think. If you have the control authority you need with a pincer grip (like yours) that's fine. I find myself STABBING my thumbs sometimes, usually when I'm trying to get just another 5% out of the sticks RIGHT before a crash...LOL...but I have quite callused thumbs due to my working with my hands, and not everyone is in that situation.
Brian, I followed your link for the nx10 and it goes to a page with several spectrum transmitters. Several nx10 options. Exactly which transmitter are you using?
Hey Ronnie, this is the exact transmitter we have... bit.ly/3Tcb1i5 We like to link to the "search results" when possible so people are able to see all of the different package options available.
Your channel is for the non professional and covers the basics for the beginner. I find that you talk to us and not down to us which other websites lack.
Hi Brian. Hope you are doing well. You've been very good about answering questions for me. Let me ask another general question. When setting up my low (70%), medium (85%) and high rates (100%) for each control surface, should I start with positions 2, 1 & 0 respectively...or, just the opposite?
Rates and expo are highly subjective, but my recommendation is to figure out what you like and then be consistent with that. There isn't necessarily a right or wrong order to set your switches. I like to start in the middle mode so I have an out either way, up or down.
Hi everyone. I'm getting back into the hobby after a 20yr break. I dont mind spending money on a good radio. Whats the best radio to buy without going crazy on the price? Im not going into competition or anything. Just want something that can handle everything as i grow back into the hobby. My max is $1000. If could stay below $700, that works just as long as I wint outgrow it. Im sticking mainly to planes. I want the option to go into helicopters, but Im not into helicopters generally
Hey bro, long time friend I just got an annex a good idea and when I turn it on the spectrum logo stays on I don’t know what’s up can u do a video this stuff never works
Hi Brian……kind of off topic I bought the budget transmitter…the radio master Zorro. I bought it for my eachine E120s helicopter. I should have asked you first. Do you recommend that transmitter the zorro with ELRS?
One maybe dumb question. If I have a 9 channel plane with Flaps retracts, reverse thrust, led burner effect thing…. Can I have a nx8 and choose one not to run. So in my case I have no use for the led after burner thing. Can I just use the nx8 and not use one of the channels? If I can, can I choose what I don’t want to use? Say I don’t want forward thrust but I DO want the after burner, can I choose things like that. I have only one plane where this is even a question and I can’t bring myself to spend the extra money for stuff I will not 1000% use
Not a dumb question. You can just omit a control channel, or tie it into another for the same effect as the throttle, for example. This sometimes doesn't work on certain designs of throttle or afterburner led's, fyi, but generically, YES you can do that.
I fell for this POS in November '22. WiFi didn't work out of the box! 6 months on, telemetry is acting up. It came with the wrong firmware. It cannot be updated on a Mac! So my $550 "upgrade" from a DX6 now has to be sent in for the firmware that it should've shipped with. After 2 years on the market? Worst Spektrum experience in my 15 years. This was my last Spektrum radio. My Radiomaster Zorro is a far better TX at a fraction of the price. Such a waste. Now when I look down to check the timer on the Zorro, the strap is no longer blocking the screen! I see the custom flight information instead of a big billboard proclaiming "NX10!!!" where the screen should be. And it fits my hands like a glove. Every switch right at your fingertips. $ 130. Ergonomics. What a concept. Run, don't walk from the Spektrum trap. You're being fleeced.
@@johnd9357 I converted any holdouts in my family decades ago. I worked at Apple. Mac since '85. Friends don't let friends do windows. Only people I know with windows are my in-laws. In Maine. And they don't know how to use it. So I should fly to Maine and learn Windows in order to use a transmitter that has been out for 2 years? In what parallel dimension? Point is, it should not be an issue in the 21st century. That is lame AF. Period.

I have a RadioMaster TX16S from the initial release batch several years ago. I've not had any issues with it and I really like the power and flexibility of Open/EdgeTx, but I do think the Spektrum radios will be easier for many people. Also, EdgeTx is increasingly not to my liking as they emphasize the touch interface for radios like the TX16S. Even with the big color display, the new EdgeTx displays far less information per screen compared to previous releases. It requires way too much scrolling, in my opinion. Still, what I really hate about Spektrum and the other old-school radios is the marketing of channels. There is no reason to limit the number of channels on entry level radios other than to gouge customers with upgrade costs. It's simultaneously comical and sad to read posts about planning for your future needs when buying a transmitter with only 6 or 7 channels. It doesn't cost any more to send 10 or more than to send 6. It's a completely artificial limitation. For this reason alone I would never consider buying a brand that requires an "upgrade" for additional channels.
@@podunkis thats why i bought TX16S MKII. Spektrum is way to expensive and they are charging you for number of channels. I like stuff Horizon does and sells but not the radios.

P.S. Horizon IS actually doing some MUCH needed site maintenance right now....wonder if Spektrum is doing the same???
I will do this. Thanks!
Good call!
Great video. Thanks
You're welcome!
Great super collection Airplane🔝😁😁😁
By the time you got in I've already downloaded updates
Still rocking my old 1st Gen DX9! I want the ix14 but it's silly money
Me too, I love my DX9 & the money I saved from not buying the latest NX series. I just spoke to Horizon yesterday (his name was Matt) and he even told me the DX9 is fine and there's no need to go to the NX10 or any of the NX series since the DX9 has forward programming.
Great video very informative
Glad it was helpful!
Great review I’m going to pick one up
Awesome! Loving the NX10 so far!
High Brian extra channels do come in handy if you have all those little extra plus adding a bomb drop or Lolli drop I love my nx10 cheers Rick
Very Informative
Thanks! Glad we could help some.
I need to get one of these because... MORE CHANNELS!
If you want a GOOD value that will see you through a lot of RC planes, you MIGHT consider the NX7e - it's not NEAR as good at the NX10, for obvious reasons (namely the channels...10 is gonna get you YEARS and YEARS of planes, while 7 will leave you wanting in a year or so, if you advance through the "ranks" anything like an average pilot)
NX7e comes with "bonus points" right now, which I think makes for about a $50 credit against something else...so check it out..
bprc.me/NX7e - THIS ONE is where you should be starting...
bprc.me/NX8 - DON'T GET THIS ONE, it's too "in the middle" and it's still pricey...unless they put it on sale.
bprc.me/NX10 - Get this one if you want to get the "next step" over the NX7e
bprc.me/NX20 - If you KNOW you're gonna be ALL in, just get this OR the iX20...but I don't even have one ;)
bprc.me/iX20 - If you won the lotto - get this one ;)
bprc.me/Tx - the whole list here - DO NOT GET A DX - they're going to lose support soon, and you will NOT have every feature we use
Thank you so much!
great video, question with twin engine planes or single planes does it matter what transceiver you use?
This is not an issue. You can do both or either on your choice. You just need enough channels.
Another successful day. I learned a lot from your video. 😊👍
Its Me!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you Brian for your quick reply on this question! You Rock! 👍😃
USB set up is so you can use the transmitter on the RFseries simulators
yes! we found this out later on, and love this feature!
Brian, I haven't had a chance to go through all the comments for your thoughts on the NX10 vs NX10SE. What say you?
NX10 vs NX10SE - I have a hard time finding enough extra value, but maybe you will for the SE???? I don't mean to try to make these value judgments for others, but to be honest, I just need the channels.
@@BrianPhillipsRC I appreciate your answer, Thanks.
Hello Brian😁🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝
Hi @brian have a weird model overwrite issue on my nx10. I have a few models created. When I turn on my radio, my first model gets copied over the last model I flew. Only started happening in the last week. Any help appreciated..
You gotta talk to Spektrum on that issue. I don't know what's going on, but better get it fixed ASAP!!!
Hi Brian Do you have any video of the H1 flying how to setup to the Transmitter NX8 with Align 550x
hi Brian,
you have great informal videos can i on the NX8 and the Nx10 can i see how much battery power i have left in my aircraft while im flying what unit receiver, do i use if possible, besides a timer in the radio. I need more direct information from the helicopter motor, power supply, while I'm flying. I don't want to damage my lipo batteries your advice on these radios is very helpful.
I think for me the 8 channel should be ok for me 6 channel for the helicopter servos and 7th channel for my lights and the 8th channel for my pilot that has a turning head .
any help will be appreciated
Jim
Just got a nx10 today oddly enough and saw you post this. Upgrading from a dx8e and new to whole new interface of the nx line. Anymore useful tips to help get used to it?
Just found your channel and think it’s awesome, funny, interesting and informative. Would love to see a live Q&A involving some margarita 😂
NX10s are currently $100 off on Horizon Hobby through May 17th as long as they're in stock! $450 for the NX10 is a great deal! Get it whole you can!!
They are! It's a GREAT deal right now. Thanks for mentioning it!
bprc.me/NX10
Just picked up a nx8+ at horizon for 250 on sale
Yes, absolutely, but I wouldn't say you need the SE (which is way more money) - JUST my opinion.

AWESOME!!! We will be reaching out to all the same people too! Thanks!!!
You remind me of Tim Dillon. That's a huge compliment. Love the channel! Subbed!
can I use the 7.4 battery pack wyh my NX8 even thou it comes with 3.7 pack
Do you have any dust behind your screen? My sound sometimes also doesn’t work and I have to restart it.
How many extra virtual channels do you get with the AR8360T?
I went from DX8 to NX10 - and I'm now about to buy an IX14 - would love you do get an IX14 and do a review on it....
So Brian, since I am old school and have a DX-18 Gen 1 what major advantages to switching to the NX transmitter series...?
Not sure if you can answer this or not but I have a DX9, is there any good reason to upgrade to the NX series?
My dx6e will not start at 180 Fusion with a firmware of 1.22 do I have to get a newer firmware?
Getting the NX8 delivered tomorrow. I'm using real flight with the dedicated controller for the sim. Is it easy to use this in place of the real flight controller or even worth doing since I have it? I heard someone mention on another vid you have to reset the controls or trims before flying the plane or maybe I misunderstood it. Also to make sure you are out of sim mode before flying, which seems obvious, but wasn't sure how easy the transition is.
You can do it with VERY limited effort, BUT, I'm too lazy to do it, so I'm not assuming you're going to do it either ;)
That being said, we have so many good Tx'es that it's kinda like...I just use the WIRED one more often than not. It's a very good analog for what we use with ANY of the NX lineup Tx'es, and that's what I'm after.
Good luck - remember to UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE when you get it (if it's not already). It's a PIA, but you want to be at latest and greatest for all the features.
Great thanks for the quick reply. Great channel.@@BrianPhillipsRC
If you were going to buy your first plane, would it be a sport cub s2, aeroscout, carbon cub or apprentice?
Aeroscout IMHO
Nx8 does what I need but if I got more pro with the helis I guess the ix14 for the better gimbals.
More Sequencers on the NX 10
@BrianPhillipsRC yes, I agree. It's hard to criticize another flyer for their technique when they fly better than me. Lol
Brian Can you make a short video how to change the swich nuts to customize Spectrum Transmitter
Brian, I followed your link for the nx10 and it goes to a page with several spectrum transmitters. Several nx10 options. Exactly which transmitter are you using?
Hey Ronnie, this is the exact transmitter we have...
bit.ly/3Tcb1i5
We like to link to the "search results" when possible so people are able to see all of the different package options available.
Your channel is for the non professional and covers the basics for the beginner. I find that you talk to us and not down to us which other websites lack.
Awesome! Thank you! That is very great to hear!!!
I see the antenna is adjustable - What would be the proper orientation for flying?
$500 for that is ridiculous!
Will the nx series allow models built on an IX series to load?
I fly 3d helis I only need 6 channels... honestly I only use flight mode switch, timer, throttle hold..
Super sendet
Hey bro, long time friend I just got an annex a good idea and when I turn it on the spectrum logo stays on I don’t know what’s up can u do a video this stuff never works
Nx8
Hi Brian……kind of off topic
I bought the budget transmitter…the radio master Zorro. I bought it for my eachine E120s helicopter. I should have asked you first. Do you recommend that transmitter the zorro with ELRS?
Holy heck you’re running out of room for your plane storage 😂😂😂
The site was messed up 😂
sure was
One maybe dumb question.
You couldn’t just find a windows machine to update from? A friend. Family member?
@@johnd9357 I converted any holdouts in my family decades ago. I worked at Apple. Mac since '85. Friends don't let friends do windows.
Only people I know with windows are my in-laws. In Maine. And they don't know how to use it.
So I should fly to Maine and learn Windows in order to use a transmitter that has been out for 2 years? In what parallel dimension?
Point is, it should not be an issue in the 21st century. That is lame AF. Period.
Hi Brian I am new to the hole spektrum thing and I just orded the habu 70mm sts rtf whats the difference between nx and dx I got offended dx8e love the videos and the knowledge you share much love and gob bless from Australia 🇦🇺 cheers o your humour kills me 🤣
Could you not cater to both?
I recommend an open source radio like Radio Master.
Hello Brian, new to the hobby and enjoying your content. How do the sliders on the NX-10 work? Thank you, Anthony
