    Oh I just noticed the tank is plastic??? On my 98 Sonoma it's made out of metal that's actually rather interesting I would have guessed they would still keep a lot of things the same but I guess it makes sense it's plastic now because it's expensive to move and mold metal for the tank.

    I have a 2000 Sonoma and I’m having this same issue
    Glad to see it’s not truly horrible to replace.
    Gonna get my brother to help me sometime
    Mine only has around 160k miles on it so it’s good to know I still have a long way to go as long as I take care of everything that needs it.

    8 bolts and you can lift the bed with a engine hoist without removing the entire bed off the truck

    You seem very knowledgeable... question. At 5:32 freeze frame- the line running along the frame rail closest to us would be the brake cable correct? - the second line that comes up next to the rear of the gas tank, what is that line? Then the other lines that come in from the tank and join the frame rail, what are those? Having trouble identifying what is what.. Near the fuel filter there is obviously the feed line into the filter, then the return line next to it? then 3 other lines clipped in up top, furthest back being that same brake line

    This is a great video with a very good explanation. I have a 2000 S10 truck. I installed a new fuel pump. I heard the humming coming from the pump but there is no gas pressure on the system. I also replaced the pig tail connector which make me think if I connected them wrong, but since is the same color wires. Any ideas? I will appreciate your help.

      I'm not there so there's no gas on it but I would say that it takes a little while for that fuel pump especially if the level is low to suck up the low fuel in the tank. And I would add that it's possible that you had a plug-in in the line, so check and make sure that you have fuel pressure by running it with the hose disconnected. That might be messy but it'll save you have to do the job over again and pull everything apart

    where does the 3rd fuel line on the pump the one to the right of the middle line go? it looks like its attached to the frame same as the middle line

      One's a feed, One's a return, the other one is a vent.

    The pigtail isn't really an issue of there's something wrong with that style of connector. Older trucks had the 4 pin square connector that almost looked like an o2 sensor plug, and there were problems with that plug, and also nobody makes the pump with the old style connector. If you have the newer style flat 4 connector like this one then there isn't any reason to replace the pigtail, bit if you have the old one, then change it out so you can plug in the pump.

    • @slow_restoration
      @slow_restoration  3 года назад +1

      Depends on the truck. Some trucks because of rust are scary to drop the tank, you may break too much stuff in the process. I usually prefer to drop the tank.

      @@slow_restoration Hummm, Im 62 female with arthritic fingers. Any suggestions. Shop wants $500.0 to replace. Tow truck wants 65.00 to get it there. Using brain power and imagination to figure out safe way to jack truck up to remove bolts going to bed. At moment I have jack that came with it for changing tire. Also have an old fashion jack. Put bar in it and click it up.
      VERY GOOD video. Going to look on amazon or some place to purchase some kind of safe jack to lift truck.
      This is my only vehicle. I like my truck!

    This guy does not know what he’s doing or maybe he just doesn’t know how to teach. He said the fuel lines are simply squeeze to disconnect, he didn’t show you because it’s not always that simple. Be carful and do not force anything your not certain of how it releases or that you could damage.

    How long does it take to do that. Would it be quicker to drop the tank?

    • @slow_restoration
      @slow_restoration  Год назад +1

      It can be done quickly. some times you can get yourself into trouble dropping the tank. Remember, everything you touch on these old trucks has a chance of breaking, fuel lines bolts, brake line. The bed bolts usually come out fine.
